The sun had been shining without a cloud in the sky. Flying Pokémon--Starly, Pidgey, and what not--were beginning their notorious chirping to signal a start of a new morning. Along with the growing green and luscious fauna that adorned the grass and trees, it made for quite a beautiful and appeasing atmosphere, especially for a ceremony to induct the Ranger School's newest batch of students as they begin their training for whatever jobs they choose and adventures they have in the future.

A group of teachers, some in formal and some in more outdoorsy attire, stood in front of the school. In front of the teachers stood the various students of the Ranger School, some of which who had come from faraway regions to train as either a Ranger, Operator or a Mechanic. Regardless of where they came from or whoever they were, they had all passed some form of test to be here. Whilst it was a noble aspiration for one to apply to the Ranger School, in essence, it was still a school, and had its various tests and entrance exams.

Those lucky or skillful enough to pass were now those that waited for the teachers to begin the entrance ceremony as they proudly wore their new uniforms amid a sea of green jackets. Some were off murmuring to each other or their friends, while others waited in silence. Both their time at the Ranger School and after they graduate would more than likely prove itself to be rigorous, so it wasn't entirely unexpected a wave of nervousness would befall the students.

A wave of nervousness about to be broken, that is.

"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls." A voice spoke, stepping forth from the crowd of teachers. Everyone's attention turned to the voice, revealing a middle-aged man in a suit as he greeted the students. "Allow me to be the first to introduce you to the Ranger School as you begin your journeys wherever life takes you."

The man paused before speaking once more. "Whether you wish to become a Ranger, an Operator, or a Mechanic, you all came here with one goal in mind: to learn." Outstretching his hand, the man motioned towards the students. "Those that stand next to you will be your companions throughout this quest, and us, your mentors. View them or us however you will, but by being here, you represent the face of the Ranger Union and yourself. I, as your principal, expect you to take pride in being so, allowing us to continue the duty of protecting Pokémon and people alike."

After announcing his little speech, the man stepped down from his podium to the tune of whatever applause existed and allowed some else, a female, a chance to speak.
"Thank you, Mr. Charles." The female spoke, clapping along before the applause died down. "Students, before you are dismissed to explore your surroundings, there is a list inside the school that will tell you where your classroom is. Make sure to read it before the bell rings so you aren't late to class on your first day." The teacher finished, dismissing the students so they may have a chance to familiarize themselves with the Ranger School before class began.

Crap, crap, crap...!

Being native to Vientown, Lillian had thought she would have time to eat a nice warm breakfast one more time in her own home before having to grow accustomed to the dorm life at the Ranger School. After all, the small quaint town was connected directly to the school via a road, so it wouldn't be a long walk. However, Lillian wasn't expecting herself to savor the meal and take her sweet time eating it.

Grabbing her green jacket from the coat rack, Lillian hastily pulled it over herself as her eyes glazed over one of the remaining pieces of toast.
"Bye, mom! Tell dad I'll visit him when I can!" Lillian announced, snatching the piece of toast and chewing down on it as she ran in towards the direction of the Ranger School. All Lillian had to do was cross a nearby bridge, but there was no telling if the entrance ceremony had already begun until she arrived.

Thankfully, the ceremony hadn't started, and Lillian soon blended into the crowd of green jackets, although while gnawing a piece of toast. Lillian wasn't sure if she would get caught for having food, but she wasn't about to pass up her mother's freshly baked bread-turned-toast with buttery goodness!

Not long after Lillian finished her piece of toast, a man stepped up to the podium in front of the students. The man's speech was one of passion, perhaps trying to summon some sort of courage or pride within the students that stood before him. Turning her full attention to him, Lillian was all ears. Lillian looked up to her older brother and wanted to be just like him, therefore she needed to pay close attention to whatever the school staff might have plans to announce.

Thankfully, paying attention paid off, as the next speaker explained how they would find the classroom they were assigned too.

Once the students were dismissed, Lillian looked around absently as the crowd went their separate ways. She didn't see anyone she might've known, so instead of standing around like an awkward idiot, Lillian walked inside to check her classroom number. There were already a few students checking out their number, forcing Lillian to wait until they cleared the area for her to check the board.

"Classroom 1-A, huh..." Lillian nonchalantly spoke out loud to herself as her finger ran down the list of names. Turning her head to the rest of the hallway, Lillian began to wonder who of those walking around nearby were in her classroom.

“The sky doesn’t look particularly happy,” Cinder thought as he saw the clear purple sky with the stars beginning to fade away in preparate of sunrise. As Cinder made his steps, the soft dirt road beneath him faintly crackled and the cold morning air bitted at his face.

Although he would be still in bed right now, Cinder’s mother made him leave early to ensure he wouldn’t be late to school unlike the other countless times. As he continued to walk towards the Ranger School, Cinder began to remember things about his hometown and the adventures and stories his grandfather gave. His mind continued to trail off, eventually reaching his memories on moving into Vientown. As he finished reminiscing about the time his mother accidently dropped the box full of glass plates, he found himself at the closed gates of the Ranger School.

“Hm, why is the school closed right now? I’ll just go back to Mom,” Cinder thought as he turned towards home. However, as he began to take his first step, Cinder paused. The sun began to peek out from the horizon, initiating the sky to change from a dark purple to blue color. All at once, the trickles of light from the sun burst forth, pouring shades of red, orange, and yellow into the sky. As Cinder continued to stand there, the soft warmth of the sun placed its hand onto Cinder’s body, sending a soothing and hopeful aura throughout Cinder’s body. In the far back reaches of his mind, a faint memory, unfamiliar to Cinder, began to emerge. Uplifting, a familiar joy, a man lifting him up to the air. However, as Cinder tried to focus on the face of that man, Cinder suddenly heard the grinding of metal gates behind him, followed by a voice.

“Hey kid,” it piped behind him. “Why are out so early?” Cinder twirled around, finding himself facing a middle-aged man in a suit. The man shaded his eyes from the rising sun to take a clearer look at Cinder. “Ah, you must be a new recruit, but again, why are you out so early? The opening ceremony isn’t until much later.” The joyful memory put a clamp on Cinder’s mouth, forcing him to looked down and blush. “Ah, not a talker, I see. Come on in, it will be a while till the ceremony happens.” Responding to the man’s invitation, Cinder hurried through the gates of the school. For the next few hours, Cinder continued to wander about the campus of the school, trying his best to remember the flashback he just had.

As the woman finished her speech, Cinder along with the other students began to walk towards the school. Inside, Cinder attempted to force his way through the crowd to see the board, but couldn’t due to his small size. Eventually, Cinder reached the board and saw which class he was enlisted in.
“Classroom A-1…” Cinder pulled away from the crowd and began looking for Classroom A-1 while thinking about the unusual memory.

"Perfect!"

Mari had spent the early hours of her morning trying to make herself look as professional as possible: Ensuring her uniform lined up correctly, that there was no wrinkling, and that her tie was straight. She would have requested a male uniform for the leg coverage; Having a bit of a dislike for the female uniform's leg exposure, but school dress code policies kept her from doing so. She'd have to put up with the breeze making her legs cold, though that should've probably been the least of her worries.

Looking at herself in the mirror, Mari nodded in approval of her handiwork. She'd leave a good impression showing up like this, for sure! And it only stole hours of her life to do so! Worth exchanging out some sleep, certainly. Though, as she walked out of the small bathroom, she stumbled a bit; Honesty tired. The girl was running on around three hours of sleep, but managed to function. She'd just need to go get something to wake her up before the ceremony.

She gripped the handle of her small suitcase, lifting it and carrying it along with her as she stepped out of her small rented room. She had needed a place to stay while working on entering the Ranger School, as her parents and her brother had to sail back towards Orre to continue their work. The owner was nice enough to discount her costs since she was working hard towards a good cause for the world and herself, and she'd grown a bit fond of the place. Shame she was leaving.

Down the stairs she went, noticing the owner at the front desk of the inn. The man turned his head and offered a smile with his greeting:

"Good morning!" He said, a warm smile on his face. "Expected you out here sooner, that hyper boy that passed his exams already dashed out to the entrance ceremony."

"D-Did he?" Mari stuttered, blinking. She wasn't going to be late, was she? That boy had a room right next to her's, and he was loud. Sounds of hammering and metal tinkering came from within, getting him a few complaints. Though he apologized, she figured a few people in the Inn were glad to see him leave. She hoped that noise wouldn't continue to bother her in the Ranger School.

"Indeed. Sputtered out another apology for the noise he'd been making as he dashed out the door." He answered, amused.

"I suppose that means I better be going, too. I don't want to be late." Mari pointed out, dropping her room key and heading towards the door. She stopped at the door and turned her head, offering a smile to the man at the desk. "Thank you for everything!" She exclaimed, getting a wave as a response as she exited the inn, heading towards the school.

Mari proceeded to head towards the ceremony; Keeping a fair pace though she wasn't running. She kept to a good schedule, and as planned she arrived on time to flock around with the rest of the green-jackets. She glanced around curiously, her eyes catching view of a girl who was... Still scarfing down breakfast?! She was getting crumbs all over her jacket! Mari found herself a bit irritated by this, but refrained from saying anything. She quickly looked away as to not catch the girl's attention.

As the speech began, Mari stood at attention and focused closely. The principal knew how to get people's attention, for sure, as Mari herself was completely hooked by his words. Her chances of being a hero started here; Going around, helping people and Pokemon... Her eyes almost sparkled behind her glasses as the passion seeped into her brain, almost throwing her into a daydream. Thankfully the next speaker brought her back to reality; Making Mari unsure if she had just dozed off momentarily or what.

The speech ended shortly after, marking that she could go check what class she was in. Her first day...! She'd been waiting for this, and had no intentions of backing out now! She went inside to inspect the board and figure out what class she was in, though noticed one person dashing ahead of everyone else. Judging by the uniform, it was a boy. By the time she got inside, he was already nowhere to be seen. Someone else that was in front of her was already there, though.

Wait...

"Classroom 1-A, huh..."

It was toast-girl from earlier, checking her class at the board. Mari stood back, observing the board from a short distance. her eyes scrolled down the list in search of her own class; Marina Davis, Classroom....

1-A.

She nodded to herself, accepting this fact. She was a bit curious to see how Ms. Toast Crumbs did on her first day, as there couldn't be many judgement's really until then. She smiled as she began to walk away, in search of Classroom 1-A. There was surely a map of the school nearby.

"Aaaaahhh! I'm gonna be late!"

Fredrick, in a panic, was cramming his belongings into a bag. The boy had rented out a room in an inn in Vientown, but had caused a few problems while he was around. He stayed up tinkering with design concepts, being loud, disturbing others. He'd almost gotten forced out! Thankfully for him, the time for the entrance ceremony came around before he'd been booted out of the room; So he could just get out of here and head to the Ranger School to start out his new life!

As he rushed out the door to his room, slamming it closed and running along. He darted down the stairs, noticing the man at the front desk probably had a few things to say, but Fredrick had no time for it! He dropped the key as he ran by, and shouted out an apology:

"No time for stopping sorry for disturbing your customers have a good day bye!"

Once outside, he made a mad dash for the ceremony, worried that he wouldn't be on time. He panicked as a few scraps fell out of his bag here and there, causing him to stop to gather them up. It delayed his arrival a little, but thank goodness, the ceremony hadn't even started! The boy sank into the crowd of green jackets, shaking with excitement. He still couldn't believe he'd gotten accepted; This would be so cool! Learning how to help Pokemon, while also being able to learn the mechanics behind the Styler... The thought of that alone was enough to make the boy drool a bit, but he quickly wiped it away.

He was a bit anxious as the ceremony went on, but did listen. The principal sure built up hype, for this one boy, at least! He was terribly excited to start his first day, knowing the exams to get in were kind of tough, and that what came next would be even tougher! It was a little concerning, but whatever, he could make it!

When the woman spoke next pointing out they needed to check their classrooms, he nodded and eyed the school. As everyone was dismissed. he dashed inside quickly after the crowd began separating. He was the first one inside, and he practically planted his face against the board in search of his name. Morrin... Morrin... Morrin... He slowly leaned farther and farther down as he searched for his name.

There it was! Fredrick Morrin, Classroom A-1!

"Aah-Hah!" The boy exclaimed, turning on his heel and dashing off again. Classroom A-1! He'd find it, and get started right away! He had zero idea where it was, or where he was going, but that wouldn't stop him! March ever-forward, for the sake of People and Pokemon! That's what a real Ranger would do, and so it's what he'd do, too!

Things were a bit confusing, however... He had no idea where he was actually going. If he was lucky he'd possibly find the right classroom before that bell rang. It was like a challenge! A challenge he would succeed in as a first step of becoming a brilliant Mechanic!

Having found her class without too much difficulty, Lillian turned to explore the rest of the Ranger School. The School itself was massive, with several classrooms, a large set of dorms for both boys and girls, and even a small farm ran by the caretakers to feed the students and Pokémon that resided on the property. Therefore, Lillian had many options to investigate, yet where would she start? There was much to see, much to do, but so little time.

Therefore, Lillian decided on investigating the living quarters of the students during their stay at the Ranger School. They would be here for some time, and it would be best to at least check out their dorms before it came to sleep the night away. Climbing the staircase that led to the upper floor, Lillian looked around for the girl's dorm. Finding it on the right side of the complex, Lillian entered, finding rows upon rows of beds being tended to by an elderly lady humming a peaceful tune.

"Oh, you must be one of the new students. Are you here to check out the dorms?" The caretaker asked, and Lillian glanced around the room. There had been no one besides the two of them in the dorm (for now), so the caretaker must've been talking to Lillian.

"A-Ah, yes! Yes, I am!" Lillian replied, having realized that the elderly lady was speaking to her; her eyes glancing towards the beds fitted with pink blankets and what seemed to be fluffy, comfortable pillows. The windows were lined with similar pink curtains, although the windows themselves were open to let the warm spring breeze blow through, and before each bed stood a small chest, just large enough to hold what belongings the students might have.

The caretaker expressed a cheerful smile, like what one would expect from a grandparent seeing their grandchildren live happily.
"I see. Well, in that case, allow me to introduce myself." The elderly lady spoke, setting down the sheets she was folding. Unlike the pink blankets and curtains, the extra sheets were white in color. "I am Miss Millie, the caretaker of the school's facilities. And you?"

Lillian was quick to reply, almost too quick and bundling with energy. "Lillian, Lillian Stone!" She answered, yet Lillian soon had a sudden spark of cursiousity upon seeing Millie deep in thought.

"...You wouldn't happen to have a brother, would you, Lillian?"

"Yes, why?"

However, before Millie could reply, the bell rang. Shaking her head, Millie simply smiled at Lillian. "If you run into your brother sometime, tell him that I said hello. He used to be quite the troublemaker around here, you know." Millie let out a short laugh. "Now, you run along. You don't want to be late on your first day!"

Lillian gave Millie a nod and a farewell wave before nearly running out of the dorms. Nonetheless, Lillian came to a sudden stop in front of the door. Lillian had been so caught up in exploring, she had forgotten to find out where her class was actually located. "Excuse me, Miss Millie, but you wouldn't happen to know where classroom 1-A is?"

"Down the stairs, and to your right. It should be the first classroom."

"Thanks!" Lillian exclaimed, hastily running out of the dorms and down the stairs. While Lillian could trust Millie's directions, she still double checked the signs outside of the classroom for her own insecurities. Quietly entering the classroom, Lillian took a seat at one of the desks, hoping that no one noticed that she had arrived just a little after the bell.

Cinder continued to quietly take steps around the halls in search of classroom A-1, and after a following the flow of the crowd towards the right portion of the building, he finally reached what he thought was classroom A-1. Before entering into the classroom, however, an afterthought to glance at the sign plate popped into his mind, and without moving his head, he lazily slid his eyes towards the sign plate. Immediately, he snapped his eyes in front of him once his mind had registered what he had thought was “A-1.” He couldn’t care less about signs, especially small trite letters.

When Cinder entered the classroom, his brain immediately took in the entire layout of the room at once without his knowing. The most prominent feature of the room was the single row of desks, six seats in total. In front of the desks was the teacher’s podium, and on the wall behind the desks were the chalkboard and clock, with a desk of books on the left and a board to the right. In each of the back corners of the room, Cinder saw mini palm trees that helped decorate the room. Within that split second, Cinder had instinctually internalize the layout of the room and its little detail before taking his second step.

Without taking notice of the other students, Cinder quickly briskly walked towards the nearest empty seat and sat down in it. As he finished making himself comfortable on the wooden seat, he propped his arms onto the desk and laid his head onto his hands. It would be a while until everyone arrived and sat down in the classroom, and as Cinder continued to wait, his mind began to wander.

“Was that memory a dream? I can’t remember who that man was. It’s all a blur.” As Cinder waded through his memories, another emerged from the earliest parts of his childhood. All around him, Cinder could feel himself coddled in a blanket while the bristling wind brushed against his face. Suddenly, the distinct cry of a pokemon mixed itself with the howling wind and continued to do so, on and on and on…

“Heeeellooooo!” A jolting voice said. Cinder moved his eyes upwards to a female student. “Yeah, I’m talking to you! All the seats are taken up, and I’m the only without a seat! Somebody around here isn’t supposed to be in classroom A-2!” As Cinder heard A-2, his heart slightly jumped.

“Is this classroom A-2?” Cinder asked.

“Yeah, of course it is, silly! Didn’t you read the signpost right outside the classroom? It says ‘A-2’” Immediately, Cinder stood up from his chair and quickly began heading out the classroom. He heard that same voice again, but he didn’t know what she said nor did he care. As he was leaving the classroom, he saw the signpost, A-2.

“Ugh, fancy one’s and plain ol’ two’s always look similar when you’re not paying attention. Gotta get to class quickly.” Cinder thought as he retraced his steps to the bulletin board. In no time, he was faced with the bulletin board, but from there, he had no idea where his classroom was. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a girl student running down the stairs, hastily running into the direction opposite to classroom A-2. With a twirl, Cinder repositioned himself and quickly followed the girl, hoping that she would lead to the classroom. After a short run, Cinder arrived to the entrance of classroom A-1, just barely catching the trail of the girl walking into the the classroom. As if gliding, Cinder snuck into the classroom (all the while subconsciously analyzing the room), and sat down in the nearest empty desk. From there, he once again placed his head on his arms, and began reminiscing about other memories.
