Welcome to my campaign: The crypt of Locrosa. This is a completely homebrew campaign written, drawn and dmed by the one and only Manapool. I am concidered a mediocre Dm by most standards to be honest: I forget rules and what some spell does and sometimes take a while to get to know a group, but I will do my best! This is my first time doing a text based dnd game so please bare with me. Now then, on to the 'cool stuff'

Your group adventurers have been given a request from Cedarport to work under name of the noble house: Esperglow. You have been offered a fully furnished home capable of fitting the entirety of you all. While perhaps you have not met before as you are all vaguely new to the world of adventuring, it bodes well.

Cedarport is a wonderful town to begin your work for. The town is nothing special: a human town that focuses on trade brought through the river that connects directly to the river and goes on at deep levels all the way to the capitol. The town has guards to keep law, but the trouble is in the woods around it. Goblins, bandits, other issues no more dangerous than the bigger cities can be. It's a fine job, nice pay, nice town, and safe. You accept and agree to meet with the Baroness of the town: Ibal Waterfall, an Aasimar sent here to govern. Here is where your adventure will begin, but little does the group know that only a days journey away from the town is a horror you could not imagine.

I hope that is a good start, like I said, I am still not use to this. If you have any other question don't be afraid. Please make your characters with something that I and others can view. We will be using 5e, if you need help please don't be afraid to ask!

I can't believe I forgot to say that!

We will all be starting at level one.

Please ask before using anything homebrew or unearthed arcana

If you use an unearthed arcana thing that has an official equivalent, we will use the equivalent

@rush99999 Ok the real reason is it makes me either A. add a complete stranger who I make the stats for then and there to a fight, most of which would have the stat of civilian or guard. Also, I think it's a spell that seems kind of inappropriate for the setting I have built. I suppose if the others think it seems alright, I will be down for it it, but as of now I am iffy on them both.

@manapool1 Are we rolling for ability scores, using point buy, or using the standard array?

@rush99999 Those are spells by XP to Level 3, right? I'm pretty sure they're meant as a joke.

@Ciaran

Tell that to Vile Hemorrhage and Arcane Diffusion Bomb.

EDIT: Also, I vote point buy.

At first I was going to have you guys vote, but looking at it now I much prefer Point buy for long campaigns. Please do that.

Do we get the standard 27 points to spend on abilities as per the PHB, or do you want to use a different amount?

I'm thinking of playing an arrogant, foppish scion of a noble house. He was sent to Cedarport to learn some humility and 'real world skills' (as his father would call it) under the auspices of house Esperglow. As his father requested to test his mettle and make sure he returns to his house as a worthy successor, he was assigned to join the coterie of adventurers. I am planning to have him be somewhat arrogant and asserting leadership of the group, but being quickly and often put in his place by more worldly and skillful members of the group.
I would like him to start out as a rogue with the noble background, take the swashbuckler archetype (from XgtE) at level three.

Can you tell me if you can work with that? Also, what sort of house would be fitting to use and are there any race or class constraints associated with that? Do you have any lore on your noble houses I could go through to help me build my character's background?

@pops That would work perfectly well with me. I personally love noble rogues, and swashbuckler is my favorite. Cederport, as described, is a perfect place for any hero-in-the-making to be sent and it's sensible that someone would have their child start learning to live life here.

As for nobility, the kingdom you are currently in is reasonably peaceful, no crazy warmonger culture. They started as a seafaring kingdom and slowly expanded inland to gain connections to closer trade powers and internal trade routes. Most of the nobility are of these three aspects: old money rich folk who either made cash from massive ranches, shipping or artisan goods, Military or magic men who where sworn protectors and reasonably good at warding off danger, or one of the many clerics in this diverse land. This particular kingdom has a thing for gods of mercantilism and harvest. That said, high status comes to anyone who can prove themselves really. Perhaps you had family who where worthy adventurers, or you come from another kingdom. I can incorporate most of what you ask of me.

ALSO: Yes, 27 point buy please!

@Torack Looks good! I don't see enough Fighters go for the 2 handed weapon. Most seem to be all about that sword n' shield life. What archetype are you thinking about?

Sorry, Fighter has and always will be my favorite class. I am sure being a Sargent will definitely at to your resume and make you a good pick for being enlisted into the group of adventurers.

I haven't thought about an archetype yet, but I'm definitely leaning towards Battle Master! It sounds amazing tbh. Also, my guy seems a bit like the type to swing a two handed weapon, so I went with that hehe
