Personality: Nobu is a man who is very confident in his own abilities, willing to lend a helping hand wherever he can. However, it is due to this self-confidence that makes most others avoid asking him for help. Headstrong and unable to accept the notion of ever being wrong, Nobu would rather cast himself from out of the masses than conform to what everyone else believes is "correct." Instead of conforming with what others believe are correct (factual or not), Nobu instead indulges in various outlets of escapism mainly in the form of computers. To Nobu, the fact that computers can be programmed to his whims makes them easier to deal with than other people, who form their own thoughts and opinions separate from his.

Despite his rough exterior, Nobu is still inclined to help those who desire his skills so long as they don't imply that he may be wrong. However, aside from his own stubbornness, there is another obstacle that prevent Nobu from properly helping others: his attraction to solving problems through complex methods, especially when simpler ways to solve an issue are apparent. For example, instead of shutting down a computer normally, Nobu would run the command prompt and execute the "shutdown" command manually. Nobu uses such methods both to further cement his judgement and due to his aversion to "taking the easy way out."

Identity

Your Story Thus Far: There isn't much to say about Nobu's life. The young man was born and raised in Hokkaido, living in the city of Hakodate. While he never was the brightest growing up, he always had easy access to technology. There was never a question he couldn't answer thanks to the internet. In elementary school, he would try making friends with others by telling them all different bits of trivia he would learn from the countless hours he would spend surfing the web. To Nobu, it felt like he was enriching his fellow classmates with new information. To his classmates, Nobu seemed like some sort of know-it-all, showing off how smart he is to look cool. Between that and actively answering every question a teacher would ask in class, it wasn't long until Nobu was ostracized for being a "loud-mouthed nerd." Nobu simply interpreted this reaction as an "inability to learn" on his classmates' parts and happily ignored those who belittled him, but deep down his social anxieties began.

Come the beginning of middle school, Nobu had already immersed himself into the virtual world. He had already learned the ins-and-outs of Windows and Unix, and could already call himself comfortable with Linux to use regularly. Around this time was also when people became more accepting of Nobu's abrasive nature. As a matter of fact, it was also the first time Nobu ever received a confession of love in his shoe locker. Her name was Yonezawa Nanami, one of the more popular girls in the school, so Nobu thought it was rather strange why she would confess to him in such a way... at least until he finished reading the whole letter. The day after, Nobu confronted Nanami in her class, giving her back the letter with all its grammatical and calligraphy errors marked and corrected as if he was grading her before asking if she would like to attend some writing tutorials with him. To Nobu, he truly wished to help Nanami improve on her penmanship, and had offered the writing classes as a potential first date. Nanami, however, was too embarrassed for words, running out of the classroom and causing a scene.

Suffice to say, the spectacle had caused Nobu to be universally reviled among his classmates, and even the target of bullies. Such events only cemented Nobu's descent into the digital world. His parents, afraid that their only son would end up a hikikomori, decided to move to their hometown on the island of Jitsuryoku-jima before the boy started high school. It was then and there that Nobu would reform himself as a man of mystery, helping whoever he encounters in need and whisking away afterward before they can even ask him of his name... or at least, that's what Nobu attempted to do his first few weeks as a first year in Aomori Gakuen. Instead, he became known more as that weird mostly quiet kid who gave advice about trivial things at random points in time. Incidentally, his addiction to digital media has only increased since then.

• Yoshimoto Natsumi [🎆Respects / 👋Acquaintance] - Seat neighbors. While initially at odds due to Nobu's intimidating nature, they came to an understanding after having a discussion of the "idol" genre. While their tastes differ, they are still both open to discussing seasonal anime.
• Osaki Kiyoko [🙇It's Complicated] - After learning of Nobu's helpful nature (after being sent a cited essay detailing notable administrative mistakes of past world leaders once she was elected), Kiyoko has attempted to help Nobu open himself up more. While Nobu respects these attempts, he has refused to comply since doing so will "go against his ideals" (read: trigger his social anxiety).
• Kimura Yumiko [👿Enemy (One-Sided] - Incidentally, Yumiko resembles Nanami. Nobu tries his best to avoid her, and can't help but see her as a potential rival.
• Minamoto Katsu [💀Dislikes] - Nobu sees Katsu as his main rival due to the both of them being "mysterious exchange students." It is unknown if Katsu feels the same way, as Nobu keeps such feelings to himself.
• Kumagai Arata [💛Friend] - Kohai. Nobu sees it as his duty to mentor Arata, seeing him as a potential "disciple." Banned the topic of "chess" after losing to him once.

So I know I said I wouldn't post a WIP--- but I'm posting a WIP anyhow, since I don't expect much to change now. Only missing history, and it's partly (if messily) written. It's half past midnight, but I'll try to finish it before I crash.

Personality: One need not spend a long time with Amélie to realize exactly how she earned her nickname. Those closest to her liken her to lightning for a reason; she's unpredictable, spontaneous and quick, here one moment, gone the next. Bold and sociable, she has no problem inserting herself into the presence of others - sometimes to their chagrin - and striking up a conversation as if she's known them her entire life. Needless to say, there aren't many in the school who haven't heard of her, whether they like it or not. Now, whether she's unaware that her behaviour can be a bother to some people, or whether she realizes it and simply doesn't care is anyone's guess. When it comes to her, either option is quite viable.

With that said, though she knows a lot of people and never fails to offer them a smile and a wave when passing them by, whether she's actually friends with them is debatable. If asked, she would say she is - after all, she enjoys spending time with them and talking with them. Therein, though, lies the problem; for all her love of talking, Amélie isn't very good at listening - at least, beyond a superficial level. That is to say, though she is sympathetic, she isn't very empathetic and therefore doesn't really understand others' emotions. She's bad at comforting people, in particular - she has a tendency to inadvertently dismiss the presented problem, pretend not to notice or change the topic - or, if unable to avoid it, force a solution based more on logic than feelings. Anything to make the problem go away before she remembers her own issues or says something wrong and makes things worse. Due to this, most of her bonds, while maybe enjoyable on a surface level, tend to be shallow. She doesn't really know anyone, and no one really knows her.

Perhaps partly due to the above, Amélie always tries to make sure everyone is having a good time, and will quickly latch onto sad-looking people and make it her sworn duty to get them to smile. Also, while bad at comforting people, she isn't necessarily bad at helping them in all cases. If presented with a problem that can have a physical solution, such as someone being bullied or injured, things are quite different; Amélie makes sure to do her utmost to help, sometimes with a little too much vigor. Protective to a fault, she sees herself as dependable and has no problem walking up to someone twice her size to demand they stop bothering her friend. Truth be told, Amélie is reckless in general, and absolutely lives for adrenaline - to a point that long times without make her antsy. While her excitability - particularly when combined with her athletic prowess - mean she has energy to spare, it also means that she gets bored of things easily. Never leave her in charge of a mundane task; she will either do it sloppily or find a way to "spice things up" while doing it - which is code for disaster. Finally, she is extremely competitive, though she keeps a positive mood no matter the result. Just... don't be surprised if she's way more passionate about a perceived rivalry than you are.

Habits:

• When nervous or forced to stay stationary for too long, she starts to show various signs of discomfort. Most often, she'll start to tap her foot, constantly change her weight from one leg to another or, if able, even jog in place.
• Will start to hum or talk to herself if she's left in silence for too long and there's no one else to speak to. Music works, as well. The louder, the better.
• Laughs a lot. Be it chuckles, giggles or just small chirping sounds of amusement, her speech is dotted with them - particularly when she's excited.
• Sometimes, though rarely, inserts French words or exclamations into her speech. Sometimes they come by accident, such as when surprised or shocked, but other times she does it on purpose, since it amuses some of her fellow students. She doesn't mind being the funny foreigner, after all.

Identity

Your Story Thus Far: Amélie was born in Lyon, France, to a Japanese father and a French mother, though she took after the latter quite heavily as far as appearances went - a fact that must've made the couple's eventual divorce even harder for her father. Amélie herself was young enough not to remember much of it, and her father never did seem eager to share their reasons. Either way, from there on out, it was up to her father to raise her alone - a somewhat daunting task, as Amélie was never an easy child. She was energetic to a fault, and seemed to love getting into trouble. It was only once she grew old enough to somewhat understand that her behaviour was making her father sad that she tried to control it - to a degree, anyway.

Then, towards the end of elementary school, Amélie's father made the decision to return to Japan. His mother was in poor health, and after such a long time spent overseas, he started to miss his home country. So when Amélie started middle school, she did so in a new country, in a new language, with people she did not know. A no doubt scary concept to many - but absolutely exhilarating to Amélie. She embraced the new 'adventure', as she called it, with open arms, both literal and figurative.

Only, her enthusiasm was one-sided. To her new classmates, she came across as... too much, in many ways. Too bright, too loud, too brazen; every step she took to try and befriend people, they took backwards to avoid her, unsure what to do. After all, they didn't even share a language.

It was a tough spot for her, yet she refused to talk about her troubles to her family. Her father had always been the type to bottle up his problems and try to keep up a strong, positive front for her - now, it was her turn to return the favor. He had enough on his plate, having to worry about his mother's health. The least he needed was to think that he'd caused her discomfort by moving here. As for her grandparents, well... they were kind, if eccentric. Very superstitious, they had decorated the house with all sorts of 'wards' against 'ghosts' and 'spirits' and whatnot, and quite frankly, Amélie was afraid they'd think she was cursed or something if she told them about her problems. Not to mention, they didn't share a language either.

Luckily for Amélie, she was born stubborn as a bull - and eventually, after months upon months of relentlessly trying to make friends, her labor bore fruit; after trying to brute force friendship onto half the school, she finally got a friend. A friend that was a bit reserved about her still, and who had trouble understanding her - but a friend was a friend was a friend. She wasn't picky. From there, things picked up for her. She started to learn Japanese quite fast, and with someone already associating with her, others started to dare venture closer to this strange foreigner as well. She got closer to her grandparents as well, enjoying their stories and especially their cooking. A little stereotypical, perhaps, but true enough.

Then, one day, her grandmother passed away - and even her father, always so positive and unaffected by grief, threatened to break down. Unsure what to do, Amélie tried to offer him comfort - by saying that she was sure her spirit would stay to watch over them. Wrong move. All she ended up doing was making her father and grandfather both even more superstitious - to a point that on more than one occasion, they swore they'd seen her haunt the hallways. Startled by what she'd caused, Amélie was too afraid to try and console the two (and subsequently, anyone else) again, out of fear of making things worse.

Today, things are slowly looking up. Her grandfather still has an obsession with his dead wife's supposed spirit, and her father is still trying his best to keep everything together - but at the very least, they aren't alone anymore. A year or so ago, other relatives that worried for the two men's mental health managed to convince the whole family to move over to Jitsuryoku-jima, where the rest of their extended family lived. A seemingly peaceful island with fresh air aplenty, they hoped it to be the perfect environment for rehabilitation.

If only they knew.

Sazae Yokoi is a bonafide chuunibyou, getting the syndrome when she hit the seventh grade up until her second year in high school and still hasn't gotten over it because she thinks it's cool. While a lot of people see her as a deranged idiot who read too much manga and light novels and watched countless anime, members of the Occult Club disagree. Sure all her worshippings and supernatural knowledge came from the most ridiculously written shows in Japan, her enthusiasm to learn actual occultist practices caught her false interest and asked her to join in making her a naive person as well. Being the optimist, rarely anyone's ever gotten her angry. Bullying was nothing to her because she believes that they are jealous of her "super powers" to the Dark Lord Evil Eye. As cheesy as it sounds, it's one way to look at life positively while doing things you enjoy.

Of course she doesn't act like a crazy person 24/7, whenever she feels tired or sleepy she acts like a legitimately normal person. As if the otaku-weeaboo you've seen earlier in the hallway carrying a broom like some sword is now a proper student who looked like she studied a lot for her final exam and prove it too. Sazae Yokoi is no pushover when it comes to research and studying, despite being the School Clown. She is one of the top ten brightest students at her school though nowhere near the first five, only the bottom five.

Habits:

One of her most obvious habits is speaking like she's the protagonist of an anime and believes she's in the world of one. This is the one thing that cannot be avoided unless they talk about what's seriously at stake, another small part of it is tilting her glasses till the rims become opaque whenever she tells something that sounds smart.

Her second habit is focusing too much on one thing and is too stubborn to let it go until she finishes it and finds closure. This is the only normal aspect of her that even the smart students admire.

• Basic Self-Defense Techniques - Sazae wanted to be a heroine of justice, so she took martial arts classes during her first year under the influence of other chuunis during their graduation party moving up to experience the high school life. Unfortunately for her, she only quit after given the choice to get a yellow belt and continue her training. She was satisfied with it the results.
• Amateur Actress - A skill she gained by acting like a complete nutjob. In fact some people in Theatre wanted her to join their club despite her outbursts about some Demon Lord or Demon God, this had been developing since the seventh grade and is still improving up till now. It doesn't exactly work with normal people in the street but it is effective against people who are as just as crazy as her (e.g other chuunis, otakus and foreign weeaboos).

Equipment: A toy sword with a gruffy man's voice playing a random sentence whenever she presses the button, a cloak which is obviously rented, a model gun to make herself look like she knows how to use one, colored contacts, and a notebook made up of her own "lore".

Identity

Your Story Thus Far: Sazae Yokoi was born to a well-off family in Kyoto, Japan. While they're not that rich, they are one of the stand-up investors in helping progress Japan to new technological levels alongside other families and companies that are working to that goal. Part of it was moving their family to Jitsuryoku-jima, while this place had already been modernized it's still an island where they won't be followed by possible threats on their life since their investments apparently sparked an angry relationship with some of the neighbors due to her father's selfish wish for progress. Sazae saw it as selfish indeed but whatever junk both her parents told her, she believed them without a doubt. The island itself had a decent population, not many people recognized the father and only the few that have only saw him in television which was a breath of relief. She had moved here when she was in sixth grade.

During her time in middle school where she officially settled in. Bright Sazae Yokoi was walking home from school one day when she caught wind of people acting like they're super heroes from anime she watched, interested- she approached them and wanted to play their game. She was caught off guard when one of them pushed her to the ground, and later declared her as: "intruder". Bewildered by the sudden shift in the game, another kid in a dark cloak "saved" her from a harmless stick she can handle with the brunt of his arm and looked back at her with the biggest smile on his face. As they "fought" (combined with the cringey sounds of them slashing their imaginative swords and super powers), her interest in their activity grew until it became obssession. The next day, she finally joined them as an official member of "the gang." Even going as far as begging her parents to enroll her in a martial arts dojo so she could show off her professionally trained skills.

Of course while her time with The Gang was fun for a few years, those that reach the end of their middle school finally snapped out of their cringey behavior and dedicated their time to studying for the entrance exams in their selected high schools. Sazae was devastated that they couldn't play like they used to now that they're finally looking beyond the horizon regardless, they remained friends. Sazae however, wasn't over it. The 8th Grade Syndrome carrying over in high school, enrolled in Aomori Gakuen and embarrassing herself to her own classmates on the first day. While everyone bullied her for it, those at the Occult Club find interest in her enthusiasm even if she is believing in fake nonsense.

Her Chuunibyou hasn't died down at any rate yet and is still going on her second year.

• 💙Good Friend - Kamei Azumi (Sazae was the one who greeted her one day when she was having trouble finding a club. She's interested in her writing skills and helped her write up the "lore" for her notebook.)
• 😈Frienemy - Abe Kou (A delinquent that Sazae sees as someone who needs a friend. She would often try to fight her and lose whenever Abe "gets serious". Of course Abe never liked Sazae, she was annoying to her.)
• 💙Good Friend - Kumagai Arata (One would never think the Occult and Computer Science club would meet. No, Sazae just happened to find him playing games. This was good enough reason for her to be friends with him on a hobbyist level.)
• 🙇It's Complicated - Minamoto Katsu (Sazae would run to Katsu's aid even though he doesn't want a crazy person's help but finds use in Sazae's alarmingly powerful acting for an idiot. He rarely ever thanks her but Sazae is sure that he appreciated the help. They sometimes ignore each other when they walk in the halls though.)
• 💜Best Friends - Yoshimoto Natsumi (Sazae's comrade-in-arms. Although Natsumi isn't as... eccentric... as Sazae, their interests and similarities as otakus caused them to become best friends.)
• 👋Acquaintance - Kimura Yumiko (Sazae rarely sees her around the club or at the very least hasn't hard a conversation with her. She tries talking but Kimura only responds in small talk in leaves somewhere. She is a Student Council Member and Sazae isn't surprised)

Definitely fits both the setting and the occult club, which lacked passionate members. I look forward to seeing whether this protagonist survives or gets slain by the demon king. Approved.

Like maybe at first they weren't exactly what you would call "getting along" because of Amélie's lack of boundaries but maybe Amélie's stubbornness won her out? Like the typical - usually silent and reserved one being really good friends with the outgoing and bubbly one.

Could help with her sexuality too since it isn't exactly a secret that Ayane is bi af

Excellent! She definitely would. She probably gets a little stressed whenever Amélie is just a mess and probably tries to reign in her impulsiveness. And Amélie helping her have fun is definitely appreciated.
