I don't think he meant literally that. In the old days it was symbolic of things olden day often spoke about. If that's the case Jesus was always necked literally. Now days if you say that you get put in a straight jacket in a mental ward. I think more of like this

Look, as someone who was a Christian, I know when someone starts getting defensive over the faith. Now I'd be more than happy if you prove me wrong about all this and have this turn out to be a civil and open minded discourse instead, but I somehow doubt that's going to happen.
