Lol , forgot to say so far none of our characters know magic as I am going to have Eragon explain the ancient language in detail

@Shadow Dragon just cause shades are possessed by spirits does not necessarily mean they know magic, a shade retains the memories of their body (if the spirits are in control) and it the person did not know magic then the spirits won't know magic , though when learning they advance at a faster rate

@Shadow Dragon Shades could also be created by a sorcerer summoning spirits into the body of another, turning the recipient into a Shade also I've read every book of the series and as such during the war galbatorix was having sorcerers turn random citizens of uru'ben into shades , though most did not survive the ones that did he taught magic as galbatorix knew the true name of the ancient language , but when he died Eragon made sure that the name was erased from everyone's memories including his

Eragon never wiped the name of the ancient language from his own mind. He uses it to heal the mad dragon souls that the king had bound to him.

The Name of Names has been lost for hundreds of years. Galbatorix spent 40 years trying to discover its name. He found it on a tablet written in another land and in another age. It was not written by elf, dwarf, human, or urgal hands. It is likely that the tablet was of Grey Folk origin, as they were the first users of the language, even before it was bonded to magic. Eragon mentioned it in conversation with Brom, who dismissed it as a forgotten word. The name of names was first uttered in the books by Galbatorix. When Eragon, Saphira, Arya. and Elva tried to attack him, he shouted it along with other spells and they were all frozen in place, unable to move and unable to cast spells using the Ancient Language, though later Eragon cast a wordless Empathy Spell. Almost as soon as Galbatorix uttered the word, Eragon forgot what it was. >Murtagh used it to combat Galbatorix and remove his wards. @Shadow Dragon ok, but the shade point still stands usually it is magicians messing around that causes shades to be formed but , in the case of the citizens that became them they did not know magic and thus had to learn

@Shadow Dragon yes it is but , no one besides eragon murtagh and arya and their respective dragons know it, but back to my original point out characters are learning magic , as if they already know magic there will be no learning curve at all when eragon is teaching
