@Vampiretwilight How are the sacrifices chosen? Do you have something in mind for that? Or do you want the players to choose?

Also... I can't help it. I have an idea now and want to play it. I volunteer as tribute! (claim the role of Sacrifice) I'll try to have an OC up this evening.

Also also, seconding Veyrin's question, how much does this town have access to / knowledge of the outside world?

I'd like to hear from whoever has enjoyed some series of video games like Silent Hill or Fatal Frame to propose a general description of our setting.

@Vampiretwilight as a co-GM, I'd like to propose a modification on the ritual sacrifice as being conducted every 5 years rather than yearly to make this quite reasonable and allow for a backstory of pre-ritual events of selection.

well...to be honest, i didn't. i just figured a 'name out of a hat' sort of thing. But, you can decide for yourself i suppose.
i only had the idea for the festival/ceremony and all that.

well, it is a modern day town so, as much as a place like that would allow.
it isn't a big city, but it isn't no village like hundreds of years ago either. it is just a regular sized town. and like any modern day town irl, they would have a bit of access i suppose. of course, the creature would play a factor too so..... -shrugs-

I'm trying to figure out a way around the plot hole of "Why doesn't everybody just leave?" It's not a fatal plot hole but there has to be something there... even if the answer is "It's a secret for now, we'll work it out later."

Maybe the town is very geographically secluded? So they have some access to modern news and technology, but it would be difficult to move?

taking out the once a year thing might create a plot hole in the story i created, unless you have a solution?

and yeah, fair amount. but the thing is, i had in mind that the town was in the middle of what is essentially scenic nowhere, where some technology would be their main access to the outside world, since traveling takes a long time and everything. in a way, it is fairly isolated i suppose.

For anyone who hasn't grown up in a small town, it is hard af to get out. Some people can, through pure determination or the more unlikely happenstance of a sports scholarship. Most just take up a similar occupation as their parents.

My understanding of this town is that it is remote and isolated. Mail and restock for 'major' stores only once or twicd a week sort of deal. Vast agricultural area ideal for farming which is why it was first settled. On the otherside of town are the woodlands, which are rumored to be haunted and where the creature lives. No one ventures into those woods.

Families here are mainly farmers, livestock tenders, or shopkeeps. They export more than they import though first round of goods of the land are for the town. Small off-brand named shops and grocery store, no starbucks. Only one bed/breakfast like inn since no one stays here unless it's by mistake.

Only in recent years, as the new generation starts to more thoroughly get away do the rumors of the creature make it to the outside world. Most don't believe the tales but the town has seen a slow uptick in traveler's.

Think Sleepy Hallow brought to modern era. Or at least, that's how I viewed it when reading VampireTwilight's 1st post.

Sorry if that's overstepping.. my mind and fingers started typing and well, there's my thoughts on it

For the 1yr thing because creature get hungry and angry if you don't feed him. Such a child lol

Maybe they tried once and things started going just a bit wrong. A farm field went dry, livestock suspiciously dying, appliances breaking for no apparent reason. Nothing massive but enough to remind the town that displeasing their supernatural forest dweller was not wise.

No problem, I'm really inspired and excited for this RP. :)

I'll take up co-gm role if still open. I can do an initial IC post done for setting up once all characters are ready to go. When I get to a real PC I'll PM you with google doc or rough draft, if you'd like, @VampireTwilight
