History

Background: Evren was born on Terra’s moon Phobos as the only son of Omni Core’s current commander in chief General Deacon Frost. As the son of a high-ranking member of the OmniCorp mega cooperation, Evren has lived a rather privileged life on Phobos. Always attending the best schools, best medical care but not a luxurious lifestyle. His father ran his household with the iron disciple of a military commander.
Being the son of a high ranking Omnicore member meant that there was only one path for Evren to follow. At the age of 18 the fox enrolled in the prestigious Omni Core security academy and began his officer training course. In four years Evren was educated in the art of war and indoctrinated with the idea that Omnicore brought peace, safety, law and order to the colonists across the universe.

After graduating from the officer training course Evren was given the rank of lieutenant and assigned as the new commander for 2nd mechanized platoon. An experienced unit that has been on many deployments throughout the known universe. Being fresh from the academy is hard when you are given the command over veteran soldiers. It took Evren a long time to adjust to the fact that his position was just as much one of command as it was one of learning. However over time he gained the trust of his unit and forged unbreakable bonds with the men.

Evren’s first deployment was to a mining operation on Proxima , a planet in the Chantico system. The official mission was to provide security for the mining operation and maintain law and order in the mining towns. The reality was that their job consisted primarily of protecting the managers from disgruntled workers and chasing away illegal settlers from their homes as Omnicorp operations on the planet expanded. A mission where the reality on the ground fundamentally challenged the inexperienced lieutenant's beliefs of the role Omnicore and himself played in the universe. Not the bringer of peace and order but the oppressor in service of corporate greed.

Nonetheless Evren managed to forge close ties with the soldiers in his unit. Especially with his second in command, sergeant Mark Stone, a man who just like Evran came from a Omnicore family. Evren became very close to Mark and his family. Often being around at much of the family's festivities.

Evren developed himself as a competent commander and life was looking good for him. Nonetheless there was always this lingering doubt in his mind about the nature of his job and how it conflicted with his own sense of morality. However it brought food on the table, good career opportunities and a lot of status in his immediate social circle.

However everything changed when the Iroria 1 war broke out. Evren Frost’s unit was quickly transferred to the planet Iroria 1 after negotiations broke down between Omnicorp and Wayland corporation and hostilities started between both corporations' security forces. This would be the fox’s first taste of real war. Both sides deployed all means they had at their disposal indiscriminately. Evren never experienced this much death and destruction in his life

For Evren, the war would end in disaster. During an operation he made an error of judgment and his unit ran into an ambush and a heavy fight ensued. Under heavy pressure, Evren requested permission to withdraw which was promptly denied by the higher ups. As the casualties mounted, Evren withdrew his surviving forces without permission and was courtmarshaled for his action. The court ruled desertion as proven and after serving some time in prison Evren was dishonorably discharged from OmniCore.

Unsure what to do with his life after being discharged from the only thing he had ever known, spending the savings you had on whiskey and cards in some shitty saloon on the planet nowhere seemed like a good idea. Maybe it was fate that he met a member of the triads over a game of cards or just coincidence. Who knows. But his idea of borrowing money from a crime syndicate to buy a ship and live your own life according to your own ideals on the frontier sounded like music to his drunken ears.

Motivation: Evren bought the SS Dauntless on a whim during a night of whiskey and cards. To him the spaceship represents freedom from the shackles of his past and the ability to fly to a future of his choosing.

Appearance

General Appearance: Luck is short, with a stocky torso and long limbs. His "head" could be best described as a vaguely humanoid shaped frame containing 8 high-spec cameras oriented as to give him a close to 360° FOV. Topping it of is an 3" antennae with a small red light on top. His internals are a matte carbon black, with grip textured titanium plating (imagine the texture of a very fine sandpaper, for grip). His plating is painted with a worn print of standard planetary multicam. Most of his torso and limbs are heavily plated, with the only real portions of internals visible are his neck and joints. He has airware arteries mimicking that of a humanoid's. His "feet" are comprised of an omni-directional three toed stabiliser. They are magnetised for zero G capability. In fact, his entire body is omni-directional. His omni-directional legs and 360° degree FOV mean that front and back aren't really a concept for him. His hands are designed to closely match that of a standard humanoid's, for universality's sake. On his upper thigh he has a custom made handgun holster, usually occupied by his prized handgun. It contains a springloaded ejection system for sick drawing tricks (think jetstream Sam's springloaded katana sheath). Along with that he has an assortment of olive drab pouches strapped to his chest, for storage purposes, reminiscent of a set of UNS webbing. Lastly his "wrist" has a permamently attached Quatermaster's management tablet installed into it, which is snugly in a detachable port. He doesn't really need the physical device, as he can remotely access the software, but he believes it to be a common courtesy to the crew.

Psychology

Personality: Due to Luck's status as a premium naval command/ strategy droid he is fitted with a standard evolutionary personality package. Despite him being fully robotic and a completely artifical intelligence, he is fairly jovial and positive, instead of the stereotypical cold and icy. This is purely for personnel morale and loyalty. The standard personality matrix soon learns that personnel are more loyal and generally happier if the unit acts human. This also means the older a model is, the better it's leadership ability becomes, as it's social database increases. However unlike many Codec naval command units, Luck is not loyal directly to his command structure, or captain, but instead directly to his own survival drives, and secondarily the ship itself. His priorites ae very similar to that of a carbon lifeforms, at the top is his survival, directly underneath that is the survival of the ship, equal to the drive to improve his survival quality (profits), and directly under that is the survival and welfare of his CO and men. However for Luck himself, he has ascertained the survival of his current crew to aid in his priorities.

Flaws:

• Contains gas used for the high-speed transfer of data. Known as "airware" If it leaks then he will be effectively lobotomized, and if enough leaks he will be paralysed. However his hardware has enough redundant processing power that is completely drained of airware he has enough power to keep himself from going offline. Barely.
• Completely morally bankrupt.
• Hardcoded to be protect the Dauntless, and therefore involuntarily responsible for it until it is destroyed. He also cannot harm it in anyway.

History

Background: Luck was produced as naval commanding IPE to be used in the Codec Arms Naval Fleet, in which he cognifies he would have most likely ended up scrapped if that plan had gone through; due to the fact Codec Arms was destroyed and it's assets divvied up between the other corporations. This would not have ended well to the robotic troops loyal exclusively to Codec. Fortunately for Luck he was stolen in a pirate raid and auctioned off to the previous First Officer of the Dauntless, who then programmed and socially trained Luck to take his place. As all first officers know, it is them who really manage the ship, so who better than a supposedly infallible AI?
Motivation: Luck has the same motivations as any other living thing: continue living and thrive. Except because of the sentimental old bastard that programned him, he has the extra caveat that he is durectly responsible for the welfare of the Dauntless.

Space travel:

• Textbook navigational skills (theoretically perfect, but completely lacking experience/comprehension in the skills/industry expertise).

He runs a tight Medical Bay, and will get in anyones face who tries to overrule his orders to any other medical staff he has on hand. "I don't try and tell you how to "role here" do I? Don't try and tell me how to keep you alive." Tends to be shouted, spittle flying if someone tries to tell him or his medical crew how to do their jobs.

Despite this, he'll be the first one to order someone to grab a fifth of scotch and join him at a table to relax. He's not mean, he's just very devoted to his calling of being a doctor.

History

Background: Born and raised in the border worlds. Catequil Secundus is a pretty good place. Cities are well built, little wild west at times, old Terra movies about old urban city action is pretty much basic day to day on Catequil Secundus and the other colonies and space stations there abouts. Fun thing is you don't need a transit paper to go from surface to station most times. I mean why bother when everyone is beholden to a MegaCorp or the UNC anyway.

It's here that Darien got his start. Rough and tumble neighbourhood where everyone was either Corp, Gang or a Numberless vagabond. Blockwars happened frequently often between corps, sometimes the gangs got in it. Darien was different. He turned down every gang that tried to get his hand in. He refused every attempt. Young blood like him, be great for any gang. He worked hard, got his education, and in his college years, applied for and received a tuition with Alphabet, entering their Medical University, working to become a General Practice, and Trauma Doctor. It was a long time at the University, and a long time in hospitals and clinics until he got his Bachelors. And then Alphabet threw him a wringer. They pulled him out of his final class with 3 minutes to spare in the day, marched him into a Alphabet Security Force office, told him they had eyeballed him since he started his education and wanted him in the SF. At the time he was aan impressionable young lad. And wanted to give back to the Corp that had helped him get this far. So he signed up, and he started a new education as a field corpsman, combat medic, on the field, in the mud up to his arms in blood and guts. That's what he was told.

After another year of education and bootcamp, he joined a company, and became their corpsman. There was abit of hazing, but he earned his spot. And in his first deployment, made a name for himself. When their commanding officer for hit on the front lines during a workers rebellion. Man got hit by a round, almost took his arm off near the neck. Darien had charged out despite everything, slammed an anaesthetic hypodermic into the mans other arm then dragged him into cover, binding him up. They called him "Charger" after that. For charging into fire to safe someone.

What followed were several years of Security Force work. Rebellions, defense actions, open conflict between MegaCorps. He was on the front line when Alphabet had hit an OmniCorp stronghold with a nuclear bunkerbuster to end the conflict. And got to see it first hand. He'd later chewed out a General for putting his unit on the front and not telling them about the drop. And when the General had chewed him back it'd been interesting much later when the General had been brought into Darien's medical tent with a chest wound. It's said to this day that the screams of the general when Darien worked on him without painkillers is still ingrained in the Security Forces minds.

He started to get a little jaded and angry after that. And it took only a few more years for him to request and get his honorable discharge. He took his walking papers. A few bits from his time there, and left. Got a ship out. And somewhere along the way, got wind of the Dauntless. Recruiting or somesuch, he signed on. And made his home in the Medical Bay. And that's where this story begins...right?...Right?

Motivation: Forget and get faraway from the Alphabet controlled Border regions for a little while. But damned if he's going to try and stop being a Medic. "Motivation? I've got your motivation right here ya daft feck. You wanted a medic, and you got a medic. Don't worry about my problems. You just worry about if I can do the job, and damn it lad, I can do the job!"

Background: Born in space like most of her family Anxi is a Belter her home an asteroid claimed by her clan nearly 250 years ago which yields the family a moderate an boring Income. Ani the most restless in her group family was kept busy in her youth with the demanding study of orbiting bodies and the math that applied to that study while also placed in the families exercise programs, work programs, all to keep her involved an tired.
Her home Asteroid 7577-J10 Terra system is one of the larger ore bearing measuring 47 by 21 kilometers supported a huge extended clan of 32 branch families and 4693 people like her except Anxi is one children of the 12 daughters of the Matriarch Si Yue, not one of the important ones Anxi is still ranked enough she could be on the mining board but hated the political nature so joined the Navy... not one of her better choses.
Anxi used her skills and her family reputation as pilots to join the UNS forces and in the beginning she excelled and was happy till little by little her patience was wilted away and she didn't renew her contract.
It began in her training when an instructor coaxed (Forced) her into a romance which was exposed and might have ruined her career right there except for the intervention of her family.
She knew it would cost her later when her Gran reminded her of her bloodline responsibility (Creepy story redacted, not for public)
In the Navy despite her small form Anxi impressed those leaders that weren't part of the rank nobility their post bought an paid for on the frontier. What she lacked physically she made up with her innate understanding of 3-D maneuvering born in a world that had to make their own gravity her playground as an infant Zero or low G. Aggressive as a pilot she earned a reputation as bloodthirsty her ship to ship gunnery better than most of her superiors.
Anxi moved quickly into the fast track of young officers till she was assigned as all future command officers to JAG and because her superiors hated work made her an Investigator, a flaw on their part should have made her work as a researcher with no arrest powers.
Grounded Anxi threw herself into a mountainous stack of Case Logs reading through them faster than her cpo assistant had ever seen any young Lt. It was while relaxing in her quarters Anxi's memory of the mountain began to suggest some cases where connected so she looked deeper and discovered graft, corruption, and a long list of other charges. Trouble was the list of people connected to the mountain and how by the time they knew she had written a report it was too late to stop the dung ball from rolling. -But ton of people got busted an even those that didn't or weren't connected hate her as a Rat...no offense to Rats so their is no love lost between her and Naval officers that have heard of her- (Not want her dead but they wouldn't help her some would cause trouble bureaucratically, a slim few might set her up)
Knowing the core was no longer obliging Ani used her money to get lost on the frontier flying briefly a ship called Bounce One a cargo ship owned by one of the outer system elite an over amorous an possessive Lady related to a planetary Governor.
From there Ani joined two other ships till while waiting for the last to be repaired and that looking a 6 months repair she found the Dauntless

Karma is the second child of Professor Jacob Riddle (Dept. of Engineering, Co-writer of speculative fiction as Dr. J. Enigma) and Professor Catherine Riddle (Dept. of English, writer of romance under the pen name of Scarlett Penn, co-writer of speculative fiction as Dr. C. Enigma). When asked why she reads these books, Karma replied there would be a test later.

While their university paychecks allow for the basics of living, writing speculative fiction and especially romance (and romantic speculative fiction) allows for some additional luxuries. However, they like to keep that from their colleagues, especially in the English Department who do not consider what Drs. C. & J. Enigma or Scarlett Penn write to be literature.

Jacob grew up in the inner city. His father worked in a garage, died in a drive-by shooting at a coffee shop, inadvertantly saving the life of Simon Templar, a notorious crime lord who'd always look like he was crying or had a constant cold - he was alergic to dust, making his eyes red and watery, with a lot of sneezing. While nothing was said, somehow there were always clothes, food on the table, a gift for the winter solstace - and a scholarship for a very nice college on Earth. He came back to earn his doctorate at Phobos University and ended up getting hired as an instructor in the Engineering department.

It was during this time he decided to turn towards writing speculative fiction, but he needed help. A colleague who'd written a text book the year before suggested he reach out to the English Department, and that's how he met Professor Catherine Stone. She helped him re-write his manuscript and they got very friendly, much to the irritation of Professor Hodgell in the Advanced Research Lab. When they announced they were engaged, Hodgell protested with the dean, who pointed out the two were in different departments and therefore no impropriety.

Still, when Jacob was being considered for becoming a professor, Hodgell was there trying to throw the proverbial spanner into the works.

ARL and the Department of Engineering try to make sure these two never serve together in any committee, or else nothing would ever get done.

Childhood

Besides her parents, she had an older brother, Joseph Eugine Riddle, five years older than her. He especially had to keep a sharp eye on her when she turned five and their parents got her a virtual pet jellyfish that she could only see while wearing AR glasses. Karma would run around giggling trying to chase it, pausing to point at stains and yelling "Poop!" before taking off again.

When she was nine, Karma caught Joe and his study partner Sarah Hooper kissing, there was a lot of yelling and she announced she was running away. When their parents came home, there was no sign of Karma anywhere after a frenzied search. Police were called, the neighborhood checked - and she was found during a careful recheck of the house to be asleep in her bedroom closet.

When Joe was 15, he got interested in street racing, and was suggested to "bring Pepper" along. She really got into helping him maintain his racer, bringing him parts and doing small tasks, so much so he would tease her as being his grease monkey. Jacob also became very interested, to the point that Catherine would have to pry Jacob, Joe, and Karma out of the garage.

Even after Joe left for military school, Karma and her dad would spend a lot of nights tinkering with his racer. By her sixteenth birthday, she was quite the mechanic, maintaining both her parent's cars and Joe's racer, which he gifted to her.

Hasn't heard from him since she went to prison, wonders if her brother is an admiral now or something?

Racing & Prison

She made quite a splash in street racing, having painted the her racer with red and white stripes, very distinctive, not unlike a stick of peppermint. She also knew she was drawing every eye with her cherry red racing suit. One set of eyes belonged to an up and coming exec of Wayland Corp, Michael Robertson, who decided to sponsor her, although it's clear he was more interested in getting into her pants.

Then it all went to hell. He got the word that a UNS investigative report about one of their latest incidents in the colonies was about to be delivered by a courier, so he managed to sweet-talk her into running into the courier at the spaceport and taking his comm that held the report. Except, the courier was meeting with two of his buddies at the concourse bar, and she wasn't sure which comm had the files. So instead of grabbing Harry's comm, she got Larry's.

She'd barely gone a mile when she got stopped by the police for stealing UNSpacy classified files. Judge sentenced her to 22 years in a medium security work camp. Michael promised to make sure she was sent to a Wayland Corp camp, but Omni, seeing she was a mechanic, snagged her instead for their starship maintenance & repair yard.

On the prison transport, her seatmate Karen, a skunk, told her if she didn't want to be messed with, she should find the biggest, toughest inmate and beat them down. Karma, shocked by her idea, shook her head, but word reached MaMa.

Karma wasn't in her cell for ten minutes before two of Mama's henchwomen had knocked her down and the minx started in with slashing up her face, then stabbing her in the abdomen. While she was found very quickly after the attack and gotten down to the prison medical ward, Omni wasn't going to shell out anything beyond basic stabilizing care. Especially with a report from MaMa that Karma had "started it." While her face scars healed, within a month she was back for a full hysterectomy from an infection she received from her abdominal wounds.

After recovering, she spent the next fourteen years working in the starship maintenance and repair yard and taking classes on her prison comp to get her certified as a ship's mechanic and electrician, as well as other. And fourteen years as the target of other prisoners who thought if they took down the toughest looking prisoners that everyone would respect them and leave them alone. She had enough, worked out how to escape with her current cell-mate.

Karma fled for the frontier and freedom.

Motivation: Karma was sick and tired of being used and abused. She wanted to be free.

History

Background: Njal was born on the planet Zovelar, growing up in the Arctic province of the Noble region where it's cold all throughout the year. His father was a member of a large spacecraft carrier, dealing with some illegal cargo supplied by shady clientele in which he would be gone for nearly months at a time while his mother homeschooled him. Unfortunately, his father was soon laid off from his job when the Omni Core became involved with the shipping of illegal goods, forcing his family to leave Zovelar and search for a new place to call home. They moved to planet Terra, settling within Terra city, much to Njal's dislike, while his father desperately searched for a job that would pay enough to keep them afloat.
During his time in Terra city, Njal had slowly learned how to con and haggle those that he knew were gullible and naive, making a small bit of money from them as he grew older, as well as making enemies and getting into frequent fights from those that despised his con artist nature. He broadened his horizons by stealing crates of drugs and small weapons from several stores and shops, selling them to whoever wanted to buy them for whatever price he could get them to pay, only to get caught many times from the law, being given multiple warnings since he was still considered a minor. Despite his father threatening to send him to Phobos and enlist him in the Omni Core Security Academy, Njal ignored the threats and continued in his drug and weapon money making from anyone he could, soon finding himself being introduced to an organization known as the Triads by a Triad member who had taken an interest in Njal's skills.
Curious of the organization, Njal began to learn more and more about what the Triads were and what they did, becoming very interested in joining them to the point that he made up his mind to just do it, wanting to earn enough money to get away from his parents and Terra city for good, although he chose to wait until he was at least twenty to join the organization, performing the initiation rite on the night of his birthday, becoming a Triad member. From then on, he was able to find jobs as a cargo loader, due to his size and strength, with the help of the Triads to make sure certain cargo that contained very rare and lethal weapons, drugs, prostitute slaves and rare exotic animal species were delivered safely to whatever clients paid for them, along with making other clients disappear permanently if they caused trouble for him. On two occasions, he kept a large hammer from one client after killing him for trying to cheat him out of his payment, while receiving a dangerous creature known as a Krite in exchange for an extra crate of drugs. Unfortunately, he had been caught by Omni Core soldiers during one cargo run, finding out that it was an undercover operation to expose what he was doing and who he was working for. To avoid whatever punishment or execution they would give him, Njal got away by killing several soldiers and escaping on a stolen spacecraft, only to steal another spacecraft and ditch the one he stole to get away.
To keep himself out of sight from Omni Core, Njal found a cargo loading job on a ship known as the Dauntless, feeling it was the best choice until the heat on him died down.
Motivation: Trying to make a profit for himself while staying hidden from the law.

Anything else: Njal has a pet Krite, which is a small strange looking creature resembling a porcupine or hedgehog. It has a large rotund body, covered in a haze of black fur, having small limbs with three tiny claws on both hands and feet. It has a large mouth filled with multiple rows of sharp teeth that can deliver a crushing bite, which it uses to attack, allowing it to devour its victim down to the bone. Its nose is wide and flat, and it bears signature red cat-like eyes, which sometimes appear florescent from a distance. The Krite can roll into a ball like a hedgehog and roll off, climb and leap from one area to another, and can shoot poison quills that knock out its victims. In order to travel, the Krite can walk, but will commonly tuck into a ball (like a hedgehog) and roll. While rolling, it can gather enough momentum to 'launch' from a position and reach quite long distances. The Krite can behave mischievously, but has a vicious appetite that makes it deadly to handle and keep as a pet. It can navigate its way through ventilation ducts and can communicate with Njal through body language, as well as listen to commands given by Njal if he ever needs the Krite to perform specific tasks that he is unable to do, such as finding specific items or finding a way around locked doors in case he is trapped.
Njal usually keeps the Krite in its cage, but will take it out so long as its internal microchip is fully functioning, in which the Krite is kept in a calm state of mind, allowing Njal to sometimes use it to help him take down enemies. The Krite has been known to reproduce eggs asexually, but was quickly made incapable of doing so due to the microchip which blocks the reproductive signals of the body to keep it from reproducing.

May God help you all if that microchip ever stops functioning.
