"Someone! Please! Help me!"

"We just want the purse, lady! Hand it over!"

Two thugs with ski masks were trying to pry a purse from a woman, a man next to them was on the ground. "There, got it!" One yelled. As they both turned around they were greeted by a man in a blue and red suit, and a mask. They both gasped.

"Seriously, fellas? This is like, thievery 101. The most cliche and stereotypical thing in the book!" Spider-Man said to them as if they just presented him a lousy project. They both swung at him, but Spider-Man simply leaned back, then punched them. "Now next time I expect bigger and less sad things than stealing from a defenseless woman!"

He shot two webs out if his wrists, then yanked back on it, making both of their heads but each other. They crumpled to the ground. "Yikes... No one wins in a headbutt..." He said with a sense of humor, picking up the purse and handing it to the woman. "Hello, I'm Spider-Man and I'll be your super hero for today." He said cheerfully. He turned and shit a web at the thugs, tying them up in a giant caccon with their heads free.

He helped the man up as well, and he leaned on his wife for support. "Thank you so much!" They both said, the wife wiping her tears. "It's what I'm here for... But please don't be stumbling around any more alleys. Criminals love these places." He said, making sure they were alright before shooting a web up at a skyscraper , then launching off the ground. As he soared through the skies there were posters of Spider-man both saying how great, or horrible he was. He was kinda annoyed how people thought he was a menace... But as long as he kept this city safe, he'll ignore it... He looked at the giant clock in Times Square, and let out a sigh. "Crap! Late for school..." He said miserably. He thought taking a morning sweep around the city would be refreshing for him, but now it cost him more trouble than it's worth. He kept swinging trough the sky, doing flips and twisting his body as he hurriedly made his way towards his school.

"Holly Jerfferson?"

"Here!"

"James Johnson?"

"Here Ma'am!"

"Johnny Wilcox?"

"Yo, I'm here!"

"How many times do I have to tell you not to say 'yo' during roll call Mr. Wilcox? Anyways....... Gwen Stacy?"

"Here Mrs. Albert!" Gwen Stacy said, smiling as usual and enjoying the beautiful breeze coming in through the opened window. The air was cleaner than usual for some reason, and didn't smell like the smog filled air that they were living in. She saw them putting up another Spider-Man is a menace sign, making her roll her eyes and look back at the teacher as she heard Mrs. Albert call Peter's name, the whole class waiting for Peter Parker to walk into class late...... Again. Where are you Peter? You know your supposed to be here on time! Gwen thought to herself, seeing some of the jock's eyes trained on her. One in particular annoyed her very much; Tim Jones, captain of the swim team. He had asked Gwen out several times even though everyone knew she was dating Peter, but he didn't seem to care.

Sooner or later she'd have to tell Peter, but she worried that he would get angry and do something stupid...... He was very protective over her, and for a very good reason; She had a knack for getting into trouble, whether it was with thugs or all the guys who never seemed to leave her alone, she was always in trouble for some odd reason! "Hey, Gwen, you wanna go to the movies with me this Saturday? It'll be just the two of us!" Tim said in that smooth voice of his that he used with all the ladies, although it didn't work on her. "No Tim! I don't want to go out with you! I love Peter, and I'll never love you! So just deal with it!" Gwen whispered angrily just as Peter came into the room. Gwen eyes went from angry to extremely worried in less than a second, and she prayed that Peter would at least wait till after class to deal with this. She stared down at her paper, scribbling something down and pretending like she hadn't heard Tim ask her out.

Spiderman swung in to an open school window, luckily no teacher or students were in here. "come on, come on...." Peter said with frustration, ripping off the mask and shoving it in his backpack. Seconds later he left the classroom quietly and made his way to his own class. He wore one of his favorite outfits, burst open the door to his class room. "I'm here! Peter Parker is here!" He said, panting, looking around as half the class giggled.

"You should really get a new alarm clock, Mister Parker... Take your seat." The teacher said. Peter nodded and awkwardly made his way towards his desk, dropping his backpack near him, giving a quick glance at Gwen with a smile, and sat down. He saw that Tim Jones kept glancing back at Gwen, which made Peter a bit jealous... He made a loud cough when he glanced over again. Mouthing "turn around" he pointed to the board where the teacher was talking, and gave him a thumbs up and smile as a way of saying "good job."

Gwen couldn't help but laugh a little at Peter's unusual way of getting Tim to pay attention to Mrs. Albert, smiling and waving at Peter when she saw he wasn't mad. "Hey, wanna grab at a bite during lunch?" She mouthed to him, hearing Mrs. Albert clear her throat which made Gwen turn around since Peter did sit behind her after all. "Miss. Stacy, please pay attention! I'm sure your father wouldn't approve of you not-" Mrs. Albert said before she stopped, seeing Gwen almost in tears after she mentioned her father. "M-May I be excused?" Gwen asked, Mrs. Albert nodding her head yes which made Gwen quickly leave the room at a run for the girls bathroom. No one was in there so she hurriedly went into a stall, closing the door and locking it before she sat down and started to cry her eyes out.

Gwen had missed her father so much lately, but she hadn't let anyone know, not even Peter and her own family. She pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged them tightly, not wanting to go back to class. After the first bell rang and second period class had started, Gwen still wasn't back to her class. One of the girls told the teach what happened and he asked for volunteers. Tim's hand immediately shot up, knowing this was his chance to finally win over Gwen.

Peter watched Gwen get up and dash for the door when Mrs. Albert brought up her father. He had a dark, sick feeling in his stomach.... It was his fault... It was his fault he died that night... his fault that a giant lizard mutant ran through town, killing innocent lives... And he didn't even have the honor to respect his dying wish. She didn't return for the rest of class, and as second period started, the teacher asked if anyone could get Gwen. Tim's hand shot up, and anger consumed him. He very quickly shot a string of web at his hand, and yanked it down, now being stuck to the floor. "I'll get her, sir..." Peter said. Everyone knew they were going out, although most people don't really believe it. He got up, walking down the hall and to the ladies' restroom. He opened the door, but didn't go in. "Hey, Gwen... Its Pete..." He said out. Of course it was! She knew his voice! his mind yelled at him.

"I had to fight off a lot of football players to be able to talk to you... Is everything alright?" He always had that sense of humor, even when this wasn't a funny matter... but anything to light up her spirits... and to lighten his guilty and heavy heart.

Tim was shocked when his hand had become webbed and was now stuck to the floor, trying to pull it free but to no avail. He frowned as Peter told the teacher he would go check on her, knowing he would have to give Peter Parker a lesson that he would never forget. When Gwen heard Peter she slowly wiped her eyes with toilet paper and came out of the stall, dashing over to him and hugging him as tightly as she could. “I miss him Peter…… And I know you did your best…… But I miss him so much! I’ve been holding my feelings inside because I didn’t want to worry you and my family…… But I just couldn’t have kept it in any longer! Today was the last straw……. I’m sorry for being so weak…….” She managed to murmur, holding him even tighter as she started to cry again. They were the only ones in the hall right now, and she wished that she could hold him forever and never let him go…… But she knew his secret, and knew that no matter what she did, she’d always have to let him go to be Spider-Man. She just hoped that he’d stay safe…… She didn’t want him to get hurt, ever.

Peter hugged her, and listened to her words, he stared forward as she cried. "I'm so sorry... I tried to save him... I couldn't..." He managed to say. He told her her fwther's dying request many times, but she never let him go... They couldn't split apart... And he wondered how long before he wasn't strong enough to protect her... "You're many things, Gwen... Beautiful. Funny. A genius just to name a few... But you are not weak..." He said quietly, holding her tight.

Gwen pulled back, looking at Peter as she heard him say that she was not weak. "Well, I'm weaker than you ever were Peter........ But I promise, I will always be by your side........ Forever and always, remember?" Gwen asked, a weary smile appearing on her pale face as she stood on her tip toes and kissed his lips gently. "I trust you with my life Peter, no matter what the situation. I know you'll always be there to catch me........ I don't know how, I just do." She said before the bell rang, people now crowding the halls and trying to get to their third period class. "What class do we have now Peter?" She asked, her arms still wrapped around his waist as she continued to enjoy his arms around her own. But Peter was two inches taller than her, so every time they had kissed it had been with her on her tip toes. She wondered if she'd ever get a growth spurt, just so she would be able to not stand on her tip toes or make Peter bend over. But even if she didn't, she didn't think there was a problem with her size....... Right?

Peter listened to her words, and the thought of her trusting him so much made him feel worse. What if something bigger than the lizard comes? What if it finds out his identity and kills aunt may, or Gwen before he could stop it? He couldn't live with himself if he knew that he was responsible for another death on his account... She thought of him as brave, and strong... Peter felt weak, and scared...

With great power, comes great responsibility...

He had to stay strong. He had to not only protect the ones he loves the most, but every single person in this city... He was given this gift to be something more than a high school geek... He snapped back to reality as the bell rang, and people started to say hi to Gwen, and bump in to peter. He gave Gwen a smile, letting go of her to only take her hand. "Next is chemistry." Peter said, hiding his nervousness with a smile again.

Gwen noticed the way they treated Peter and frowned, knowing they respected her because of her beauty and nothing else while Peter just appeared to be a geek. But Gwen had seen beyond the geek side of Peter, and knew that unlike the other boys at the school, Peter happened to care about her not just because of her looks, but for everything, flaws and all, that came with her. Her frown grew into a full out angry face and she gritted her teeth, a yell welling up inside her chest that needed to be set free. "Alright! Next person who bumps into my Peter gets it!" Gwen yelled, frustrated that people could do this to him after all he had been through. "Or else what Gwen?" A voice asked, making Gwen turn to see everyone staring at Tim Jones, a devious grin plastered on his tan face.

Tim quickly grabbed Peter by his shirt and shoved him hard against the lockers, which left an imprint of his body in it. Gwen was shocked by Tim's strength, but knew that she had to do something. She latched onto his arm and tried to pull him away from Peter, but he shoved Gwen away, which sent her flying into the lockers at the end of the hall but no one was there to see since everyone was in class. Tim's eyes widened, dropping Peter as he saw what he did to Gwen. "No...... This wasn't supposed to happen! I need to find her!" Tim quickly said, dashing away and breaking the front doors off their hinges as he ran out of the school and down the New York City streets.

"Yes...... Everything is going according to plan......." The woman looking at the scene through her special magic Crystal ball said, her red eyes piercing through the blackness of her hooded face and the dim lit room that's only light source was a candle. She looked up from her ball, her face now showing in the light that filled the room. "Soon....... Everyone will be mine!" The witch said before cackling like the mad woman she was, knowing that Tim was on his way there to try and break the deal. But she picked up her Crystal ball and tucked it in her hood, taking some spirit powder and throwing it on the ground, disappearing into the spirit world where her evil castle was.

"Gwen, its alright, I'm used to..." He trailed off when he heard Tim's voice question Gwen's comment to help Peter out... now it seemed that it was going to do the exact opposite. He could easily punch Tim in the jaw and knock him out cold. He could easily dodge his grab and smack him across the head. His spider senses were going crazy than usual, but he ignored them, giving Gwen a look saying that he had to take a hit... But he was not expecting to have the wind knocked out of him. Tim was strong, but not strong enough to create a huge dent in the lockers. When Gwen tried to help and got smacked, Peter yelled in rage. Tim ran off. He could have caught him. He could have made him pay...

Gwen was more important now. He rushed over to her, kneeling next to her body. "Gwen...! Gwen, are you okay? What hurts? Hey! Someone help!" Peter called out in a frenzy, so afraid of what happened to her... Tim seemed afraid that he hurt her... said that he needed to find "her"... whose "her"?

Spider-Man will take to the streets tonight when he knew Gwen was safe.

Gwen stirred, but cringed and weakly cried out as she felt her whole body ache from the impact. Her eyes slowly opened as she felt Peter's presence beside her, hearing his voice asking where it hurt before screaming for help. "I-I'm fine P-Peter....... Just hurt a little, that's all." She said, smiling a bit to try and reassure him but felt her head throbbing which wasn't a good sign. A trail of blood slipped down her face from the cut she had gained on her forehead which she didn't exactly know why except for that her forehead had hit a combination lock when she had hit the lockers. One of the teachers came out and saw the two together, rushing back into her room and calling the principle. The principle ran over to them and looked at Gwen, seeing that her body was bruised in a lot of places.

"Who did this to her?! Was it you Peter!?" The principle asked angrily, seeing Gwen Shake her head no before wincing. "I-It was Tim J-Jones sir......" Gwen managed to mumble before her head hit the floor, her brain having passed out after the overload of pain she was trying to force down. The principle took out his cellphone and called an ambulance, the neon there within five minutes. They put Gwen on a stretcher and loaded her into the ambulance, one of the workers walking over to Peter. "You can come with us sir if you want...... She'll be needing a familiar face when she wakes up." The male emergency worker said, pointing to a bench where he could sit.

Peter tried to stay as close as he could throughout the whole thing. Even when the paramedics came in, he probably got in the way most of the time. He immediately accepted to join Gwen to the hospital, and knew that her family would be there too.. He climbed in to the car and sat on the bench, and as he looked at Gwen he couldn't stop thinking about what just occured at school... How did he get that strong... what did he intend on using that strength for... and who was that "her" he talked about? The ambulance stopped a couple minutes later, and Peter climbed out with them. He had to stay in the waiting room while they checked everything out for her, but after what seemed like a lifetime, he was told he could visit her. He walked in quietly, and took a seat at her side, taking her hand. "I'm sorry..." He said softly... He kept thinking that he would have been the only one hurt if Peter kept Mr. Stacy's request... She was hurt because of him, and he hated that he couldn't have done anything about it...

"Shut up Peter...... You didn't do anything wrong......." Gwen mumbled, her eyes slowly opening so that her eyes met Peters. "You never did anything wrong Peter....... My father was a police officer, he knew he was going to die at some point....... I don't blame you, and neither does my family...... Your not to blame Peter, the Lizard is, and so is Tim........ They did this, not you....... And I won't let you forget that your innocent for as long as I live....... I love you Peter...... And that will never change!" Gwen said, lifting her bandaged head up so that she could kiss his lips even though the rest of her body didn't feel like moving. But she stopped, swallowing as she knew she needed to tell Peter what happened before hand....... What Tim had done to her to try and get his way with her.

"Peter....... Tim has been....... Hitting on me the past few weeks....... He insisted on me going out with him, but he didn't accept that I was going out with you and only you....... So I think he got mad at you for supposedly coming in between me and him...... I didn't tell you because I thought you'd get mad....... Please forgive me......." Gwen said, feeling guilty and her face showed it.

Peter listened to her talk, but couldn't do anything but listen to her, and have his head down. After a short pause he finally spoke with a broken voice. "I see him everywhere. Whenever I'm helping catch a runaway, or stopping a robbery. He's standing in a crowd of bystanders. Or a police officer. And I don't think I can take it if I lost you." He looked up at her. "Tim clearly doesn't like me, and because I'm with you, you got hurt... And anyone ever found out-" he shook his head at the look she gave him. "Don't give me that look... I couldn't live knowing that someone would hurt you to get to me."

He took her hand and grasped it. "You know I love you to death... I know you believe in me. But there might come a day where Spider-man won't be able to help" he fought back tears. He didn't want to break up. He just wanted her to know what's been on his mind ever since that night...

"Peter......" Gwen murmured, looking at him with those sad eyes she always had when she saw Peter hurting. "You....... you want to respect my father's wishes....... don't you?" She asked him, her hair falling in her face as she began to cry. "I-If you want to leave P-Peter, then do it........ I've been pr-preparing for this day to come....... I know you want to protect me....... but I don't want you to leave...... although if that's what you want....... I'll respect your wishes......" she said, practically shaking with each sob. Her body eventually gave out on sitting up and she collapsed l, knowing that this could quite possibly be the end of them. Her mother walked into the room, seeing Gwen like that and fearing the worse had happened. She grabbed Peter's ear and dragged him out of the room, looking at him angrily as a mother would when their daughter had just been broken up with.

"What did you do to her?! Do you know what you just did!? She was about to give up all her dreams to be with you Peter! She hasn't stopped talking about you since you got together with her! She wanted to be with you forever! She had no one else on her mind but you! She even came in one morning talking about having kids! She's never talked about kids until now! And you had the audacity to-" Gwen's mother said before she heard Gwen calling out for Peter. "Oh...... You two didn't break up....... did you?" She asked, her face growing red since Gwen had told her to never tell Peter about what she felt for him. "Forget I said anything! She told me to never to tell you that! She'll be furious if he finds out! Please, promise you won't tell her! Please!" Her mother begged, not wanting to upset her daughter further.

Peter listened to her words, smiling a but as she listened at Gwen's dreams... He wanted nothing more than those dreams as well... But he hesitated... Gwen made him happy. He felt so lucky to have her. He really didn't want to let her to... But how long will it take for her to be hurt again? He knew he didn't care now. He wanted to be with her. She was what kept him going. What kept both peter as Spider-Man going through and fighting...

"Your secret is safe with me, mrs. Stacy... I think Gwen will want to see you..." He said with a weak smile. He opened the door for her and walked in after her

Mrs. Stacy smiled and let out a sigh of relief before walking into the room, seeing Gwen fighting to get out of the wires attached to her as well as take out the IV in her arm. "Peter...... I was uh....... I was um...... Oh okay, I was just getting up to go after you...... I thought you had left......." Gwen said, her mother going out of the room to go get a nurse to help get every wire put back on her. The nurse came in and eased her back into bed, her mom going to sit in the waiting room, but not before Gwen noticed the guilt in her own mother's eyes. She instantly knew what her mother had done, and felt both sick to her stomach and angry all at the same time. "Peter....... I know my mother told you erm...... A secret of mine....... But exactly how much did she tell you?" Gwen asked, her eyes full of worry as she wondered what she was going to do to get back at her mother....... She just wouldn't do the dishes for a week is all!

Peter helped her back in to the bed when he saw her about to rush after him, and when asked about what her mother said, he ran a hand through his hair, shrugging. "Nothing really... Not much." He said with a smile. Except that you talk about me all the time... and that i'm the cutest guy ever." He said with another grin, saying the last part jokingly. Peter always had his humor to help him through things. Even as Spider-Man.

"Look... I don't want to let you go... but you have to promise me that you will do everything to be safe. I'll protect you, but don't be rushing in to everything... that's my job, okay?" He asked, smiling at her, taking her hand and kissing it softly.

"Yes, you are the cutest guy ever Peter, but from her shouting I don't think she exactly told you that!" Gwen said, sticking out her tongue playfully before laughing and smiling back at him. But she nodded her head when he said that she had to promise to do everything in her power to be safe, and not to rush into anything. "Alright Peter....... You know I'd never win a fight against you anyways! Whether it be verbal or physical!" Gwen said, blushing as he kissed her hand like the gentleman he was. "But Peter....... She really didn't tell you much? I'm just....... I'm embarrassed that she said anything at all....... It was supposed to be our secret....... Since I didn't know what you would think......." Gwen said, slowly looking into his eyes although hers looked more worried as she thought about how many things her mom could've blurted out while she was angry with Peter.
