Avoid relying on real physics without making sure it won't result in problems and you'll be fine.

I only started arguing because I felt there was a problem with what was occurring and I'm not getting into that because I'd really, really rather leave all of that far far behind.

Now anyway, I'd rather talk about anything else.

The RP itself has been really fun so far. There. That's a good subject.

don't worry, just make sure GM understands what you're going for and you should be fine. trust me I actually read the comics and collect them

...Okay, I am saying one thing and then letting this lie. The problem seemed to be that the handwave he was using... Well, he wasn't going through with it. He wanted to base his power on real world physics, and if that's the case he should've stuck by it. As someone who actually reads a lot of comics (just so Yog can stop saying that to make himself feel like his opinion is superior to everyone else's), I'm fine with any explanation for a powerset... As long as they run with it and stick by it. Honestly, it's why I prefer using magic-based powersets to more science-based ones, because that way I don't end up writing myself into a corner when I try to figure out how something would actually work. Whilst pseudo-science is all well and good in something like the DCU where the laws of physics are not exactly realistic, I'm going to quote the OP:

I'm still waiting for you to explain why you think Natsumi is overpowered, Yog, since I am genuinely concerned about this especially in light of recent events and would like to make sure she works better, but yeah, um... Well, I'm back. I'm not happy with how the situation turned out but the past is in the past and what's done is done, let's all try to move on past this. If anyone has a personal problem with another player I'd like them to take it to PMs instead of bogging down the OOC. But if there arises problems that affect the group as a whole feel free to bring the issue forward to me and we can have a reasoned and mature discussion that hopefully addresses everyone's grievances and puts the issue to rest in a manner that's healthy to the RP and everyone involved. I want to avoid this kind of confrontation altogether in the future as they are mostly pointless and unlikely to achieve anything besides sowing ill will. This RP is something I want to be fun for everyone and for potential future players and that leads to a satisfying conclusion unlike so many other threads. I don't want people to be chased off by petty disagreements that can be settled in a reasonable matter and neither do I want people to uselessly argue with each other and stir discontent. Any good RP should be about cooperation and collaboration. LeeRoy and others that have left the thread due to creative differences are always free to come back and I'll try my best to create a friendly and open atmosphere here for all players.

On the whole issue of realism, most of said 'realism' is meant to be from the exploration of the political, cultural, religious, and such effects of the kind of world that was created by the appearance of superpowers and magic that many settings often ignore. As for scientific realism, the thread isn't as soft on science as some universes often are but it's not meant to be wholly grounded either. One of the most important aspects of the Awakening was that it allowed for the seemingly unbreakable laws of Science to be bent but those basic laws are still there. Having magic powers still means you have to draw energy from somewhere. Having energy shields means you still have to deal with transfer or heat. Things like that. Any character has to have consistent reasoning for how their powers work. For example the NPC Sonata is an audiokinetic, that means she controls, directs, and even creates soundwaves. Meaning she can create sonic booms or sonic shrieks like Black Canary but she can control them to a point where it only affects the people she targets to any large degree. As long as your character's powers are consistent in how they work and have sufficient explanations for how they bend physics then it should be fine.

I'm probably going to have a lengthy reply post soon and we can get the ball rolling on this thread again.
