Personality: James is young, enthusiastic, very intelligent, and anybody can tell that, with a bit more experience under his belt and the right sort of guidance, he will soon be a top Erasure Agent. He is very chipper and widely regarded as an asset on any team; even if he is still something of a diamond in the rough, he is, at the very least, an excellent team mascot. Friendliness, loyalty, and tact are rare traits in the high-pressure Erasure business, and good will is something James tries to bring by the bucketload, as well as a great work ethic.
Although the lad is undeniably bright (even by Erasure Agents' standards), his eye for detail, quick mathematics, and absurdly accurate memory do nothing for his ability to think critically about the intel he is presented with. This makes him easily manipulated, as he, in particular, tends not to think about the why and takes information at face value. On the positive side (for the team leader), he is excellent at following orders, and makes for an efficient, unquestioning robot whenever something needs doing. He has no trouble following instructions suited to the task in hand, and without the burden of autonomy, his natural all-round competence truly comes to the fore. Alternatively, he can engage his own computer-like brain to become a reasonably strong strategist, but he is not entirely confident in his ability to do so unsupervised.

Albert swung idly against the banister on the first floor of the hall. It creaked worryingly, but he continued to push his weight into it despite the not inconsiderable risk of it cracking underneath him entirely and hurling him down the stairwell. Hold on. What was that? From his vantage point, staring out the window, he could make out two figures heading toward the motel's reception. There was a young woman wearing sunglasses, and, by the looks of things, an older gentleman, but his face was a little obscured by the hat he was wearing and the gear he was lugging, so it was hard to tell. Either way, they were both wearing suits. That could mean only one thing: his team had arrived. Or, at least, part of it. He span on the spot and hopped down the stairs, almost tripping on the second step from the bottom. Twenty-four hours on his own with nothing to do but work – he was surprised at how grateful he was for other agents to turn up. He skipped to the front door and opened it to see the two agents stood there.
“Welcome to Chateau D.A.P.P.E.R,” he said, amiably, looking over the newcomers. The girl was pretty and was holding a familiar-looking briefcase; the man was, as he suspected, older. Wait. Albert's eyes narrowed, focussing on the bowler hat perched awkwardly on top of his head. The head which now nodded in his direction.
“Widmann,” the older man rested some of his luggage on the ground, “Been waiting long, now?”
“About twenty-four hours.”
The agent grinned, “Guess you’ll be wanting this, then. Miss Brandt, if you would.”
“Miss von Brandt, thank you,” said the pretty girl, clearing her throat. With a surname like that, it didn’t take a genius to guess where she was from. And that accounted for the slightly unusual accent.
She handed him the briefcase she was holding - his briefcase. As the older man tipped the hat he was wearing in apology. Albert twitched a little and half-threw the briefcase behind him, where it landed awkwardly on its side in the hall. Pouting slightly, he simply said, “I like your hat.”
“I’m not surprised,” the older man removed the bowler hat, frowning past Albert after the briefcase in the hall.
“It’s mine.”
This Von Brandt also seemed preoccupied with the briefcase, and, perhaps without realising the irony, said through red downturned lips, “Herr Widmann, do you always treat your toys that way?”
Albert simply ignored the young woman, continuing to glare at the older man; presumably this assignment’s handler. For his own part, the handler coolly returned his gaze, and raised one of his eyebrows, spinning the unusual weight of this particular hat between his palms, as Miss Von Brandt watched, seemingly enjoying herself.
“Give it back, please.”
“It’s the Bureau’s,” said the handler, calmly, “But I’ll loan it to you if I don’t see that,” Albert glanced over his shoulder at the briefcase, “That again.”
Albert paused, remembering the countless times he had been told something similar. It was usually put in slightly blunter terms, but something about this older man suggested that if anybody would make good on a threat, it would be him.
He had retreated back to his room. It was generally best to have both a mirror and peace and quiet for this part, and the whole atmosphere downstairs with the others heaving in the equipment, especially following what he belatedly realised constituted ‘his display’ earlier. It turned out that Alden Aikens was indeed the handler on this assignment, and he had hardly made a fantastic impression on their commander.
On the plus side, at least he’d got his hat back. From the outside, it looked reasonably ordinary, and was, in fact, the smartest item of clothing he owned. Peering into the inside, its true nature was more apparent. The whole inside of the crown was covered with a layer of metal, and exposed wires. He didn’t understand the technology, just how to operate it.
Looking carefully in the mirror, he pulled the hair to the left of his forehead as far back as possible, exposing a small metal disc amid the roots, fused into his skin. It was just about visible through his dirty blonde hair anyway, but revealing it properly always made him gag a little. Still, it was part of him - like it or not. It wasn’t the only one, either. They were physical reminders on - in - his head that were proof, as if it were needed, that he wasn’t, and would never be, normal. Miss Von Brandt, even if she knew his speciality, didn’t understand the reality of the situation. She wasn’t much older than him, but they were worlds, and not just nations, apart.
From the inside of the hat, he pulled out a small green wire, and closed his eyes as he plugged it carefully into a socket within the metal disc. He could feel sparks leap across his mind. Plugging in had long since stopped hurting, but it never became comfortable. With the green wire in, he then did the same with a red wire to a socket on the right of his forehead, and a white one to a slightly larger disc at the top of his neck. He placed the hat on his head, and tucked the wires within his crown. If you knew where to look, you could just about make out the sockets and wires, but, to most, Albert would appear to be nothing more than a young man wearing a bowler hat.
He shut his eyes again as he could feel his mind doing something new. He always imagined a balloon with a tiny puncture: a huge transfer of pressure, painful, but becoming increasingly comfortable. After about five minutes concentration, he was able to stand up again. Apparently, he’d fallen over while focussing. Excitedly, he grabbed the briefcase he had been given and opened it up. Some people might have expected a weapon, or at least a few documents. This one contained mostly juggling balls. Scooping one up, he tossed it gently into the air and smiled as it hovered right there in the middle of the room. Albert was back.

Well now, this is an interesting character in the context of the subject matter of the RP. Normally, he'd be your standard upbeat character - though this one is definitely more complex than the standard and I like that - however in the realm of this RP, he could turn out to be much more depending on events. I'd like to see his interactions with Erasure victims(targets) in the IC because I can just tell it's gonna be worlds of interesting lol.
James Hart is accepted, Doctor. Also, I remember that RP - D.A.P.P.E.R., on the old forum. I came across it in the interest checks when it first appeared, but I was busy at the time and didn't want to commit to much of anything. In any case, I look forward to RPing with you. I think I'm gonna put up an accepted character section now so people who are accepted can be differentiated from prospects.

Name: Janet Stafford
Age: 33
Gender: Female
Personality: She’s a boisterous woman, full of laughter and smiles, and always up for a challenge or dare. Many people would find her to a strange choice for an Eraser since she gives off the impression of not understanding subtlety. That’s not entirely true, she understands it well enough and will use it when the situation calls for it, but would rather cut straight to the heart of the matter. Dealing with complicated situations and lies in her job she often strives for simplicity and openness in her personal life.
She also has a strong dislike for the antisocial types, the quiet ones who would rather be alone, and has a bad habit of pestering them. Tempting them to let loose and have fun, quick with a joke or a prank, and loves to call herself a “bad influence” on people. Janet wears her heart on her sleeve, and honestly believes that she is helping people with her position, and refuses to even think of the moral implications of her job. It would probably just open a can of worms, and that wouldn’t be fun at all.
This is from another RP, and was posted just before the big crash. It is the end of an extended fight scene between my villain and an couple of other characters.
Megaera scoffed at these suggestions. Did she really think that after everything she had done to her that she'd get off without any kind of punishment? The Lady Megaera had no room for mercy left in her heart, especially to the brat that had done her very best to ruin her completely. Her beauty was gone forever, much of her art had been destroyed. What was left for her?
Nothing. Nothing at all.
But dammit if the girl wasn't going to pay for it. Pushing herself forward, she staggered to her feet and stood strong, though her vision was still blurry. "Come here, brat," she challenged as she spotted the girl. "Do you really think that you can handle such a weapon? A tiny thing like you." Pushing through the pain, she launched herself forward, her snakes ready to strike.
Ha! The girl had closed her eyes, as if she was unable to look at the destruction she had wrought. What a fool. The snakes reached forward as she closed the distance, the longer ones able to reach and bite, filling her once more with her paralysis venom. Good, that should buy her enough time to get close and turn her to stone.
But then there was something unexpected, a sharp pain in her gut that not only stopped her in her tracks but caused her to lean back and shriek in pure agony. It appeared that she had forgotten to account for her messed up vision, that she had been just a wee bit too far to the left, and in her own foolishness and anger, had impaled herself upon Julien's glaive.
She felt the glaive slip out of her, and turned her bleary eye upon Celeste, who's arms were drooping from the venom. "No, no, no," she gasped as she held her hands against her the gaping wound, holding her skin together and her blood seeped through her fingers. Previously Celeste had only damaged her superficially, but this…this was mortal.
There was nothing she could do, no way that she could save herself. Only the best of Clerics could save her, and there were none of those close by. She was damned, but she'd be damned if she left an ugly corpse. "Goodbye, my pets," she whispered as her snakes circled in around her, caressing her with their heads as the solemnly wished her goodbye. "You served me well." They hissed once last time, then they vanished, leaving her to be swathed in her own dark tresses once more.
Using the last bit of her strength, she pushed herself to her feet for the very last time, holding her arms across her chest so that her tattered dress fluttered down gracefully. Even in her dying state she knew how to make beauty out of ruin, and through her own magic, she would preserve it for all time. It started at her feet, working it's way up her legs and onwards, as she turned herself into one of her statues.
"Leave a pretty corpse," she said, her final words before the spell took her face, restoring it to it's full beauty, the tooth, the eye restored. It was a cheap gift, though, restoring her to full beauty but leaving her to merely stare into emptiness for all eternity, an cold statue devoid of life.
But still, despite her harshness and her cunning, her lies and her snakes, she made a beautiful piece of art. Her head was tilted up, her eyes wide up but sad, as she stared up into the ceiling forevermore. She looked incredibly sad, holding her arms around herself as she forever contemplated all that she had lost.
Across the room, Julien blinked, the stoney cage starting to slowly fade around his eyes.

Ah, the first female character. The first thing that pops out to me is her quirk to mess with anti-social types - I appreciate the purpose you have in mind XDD. More than that though, I like how you say she may be avoiding the moral implications of Erasure to preserve what is her own perception of the procedure. That's interesting to say the least. Another character with lots of growth potential and it helps that I know the creator hahaha.
Accepted Dannyel, looking forward to your plans. As a side note, I found it funny how you read my mind by saying most wouldn't see her as a choice for an Erasure Agent. That's exactly what I thought when I saw the picture lol.

I wanted someone kinda unorthodox. There's nothing wrong with having an RP with darker themes, but I find that we need at least a little cheeriness or everything gets so damn miserable.
Besides, she'd be fun to break - I mean develop! - of the course of the RP.

I can understand that point of view and I do agree. Tragedy done wrong can easily make for a miserable sort of RP - unless that's the intended goal of course. While this is dark, I don't mind the occasional cheeriness. An RP should be also be complex in its own right after all, nothing wrong with a mixing of genres.
Aye, I understand what you mean icmasticc, but you needn't worry about Kiril being a complete loner, or have an anti-social personality..
It's hard to describe a character when you're only given a small character sheet to detail him on. He's far from anti-social, he's an observer. He prefers to investigate his surroundings and understand someone through watching them before he speaks. He's not gonna dismiss people if they talk to him, he's just the kind of person that once he's had his fill of social interaction - he'll slink away to someplace quiet to recharge his batteries. A bit like me, I'm introverted, but it doesn't stop me from going out every weekend to night clubs, dance, talk to women, or have a laugh with my friends.
Also, he's not so much straight-laced or completely detail oriented either, I guess that's the disadvantage of not being able to describe some kind of background for him. He's quite a peculiar character, I've got the beginnings of a history planned for him, and he's one of my more interesting recently characters I've planned so far since my return to RPG...I guess we'll just see how things go upon interaction with other characters, etc.

Yeah, I understand with the lightweight character sheet. I'm looking at the sheets as a mere base for each character so you needn't worry, I haven't written him off or anything. More so I wanted to say what I said about anti-social characters as a general sort of comment to prospects who are considering joining this RP so they know that I don't really support the lone wolf sort of characters. On the contrary, I'm looking forward to what you have planned for your character. Each sheet I've gotten so far has been interesting in some respect or another and it's making me even more excited for the RP to begin.
The lite sheet even affects me and my character so I definitely wouldn't write anyone else's off without a solid reason. I've got many things planned on my end personally and we'll see how everything turns out once this gets going. I'm expecting at least three more sheets(from people I know are joining up) so we may begin when they post their sheets up. I don't usually wait too long for submissions and this has gained a steady interest since I've put it up so we may be starting sooner than anyone expects.

I've never RP'd a totally withdrawn or anti-social character in an RP because I know much that can affect the flow of character development, impede the progress of the story or prevent things from getting done altogether.

I've never RP'd a totally withdrawn or anti-social character in an RP because I know much that can affect the flow of character development, impede the progress of the story or prevent things from getting done altogether.

That's what it means exactly, knock yourself out haha.
I just want to clarify that I didn't create Janet with the intent of countering anyone's "anti-social" character, but more that I wanted a loud mouthed woman and that seems like a natural extension of the personality.
Honestly, balance is good. If everyone was anti-social or very social nothing would be accomplished. Both extremes are bad.

What is/do you have a plan for how our characters all know one another? Are they one team of erasers that already knows one another, or just a bunch of erasers that are thrown together on a mission-by-mission basis?
I always find it's helpful to work out vague character relationships before the RP begins - "Billy-bob dislikes Shanequa because x" - "Shanequa doesn't know Billy-bob can't stand her" etc.

Actually Doctor, I do have plans for that. I was going to wait until I closed submissions so future prospects wouldn't miss this post, but since you asked, I'll tell you now.
Basically, while our characters may have been Erasure Agents for any given amount of time, they've never worked with one another. In effect, our characters will be meeting for the first time. I don't always do this, but I want chronicle character development from the first moment they meet and, that way, we don't have to make up background relationships and those said relationships can form naturally over the course of events. There will be plot reasons as to why they are brought together, but yes, they will not know each other starting off.

You see this? This is what fascinates me about Gordian XDD. Looking forward to it also.
