So I've been thinking.
The Arena is a relatively small subcategory on Roleplayer Guild.
And by relatively, I mean there's only like 50 or so of us in total.

That brought it to my attention that this subcat tends to be silent for long periods of time, except of a few murmurs of small scale roleplays.

Since the large scale Arena roleplays hosted by Skallagrim and Craptonofgames both faded into obscurity a while back, I've decided to start up a new T1 roleplay of my own to fill the void and give all the Arena-Goers something fun to dig their teeth into.

Should anyone be interested in this new Arena, leave a comment and we'll start building from the ground up.

THE TIME HAS COME

And this time, in my opinion, we should try making it much more plot focused and discrete in terms of geography. To keep it alive, we should let it stand out amongst many other easy going fights, and a combination of well defined neighbouring locations and plot devices can help it become lot more heated and concentrated than the other Arenaverse incarnations. The actions of one player may immediately affect all the rest, turmoil in one location will echo in another, conflict will have its justification and alliances will be easier to create.

Something like the Darashal conflict in Skalla's MV would be fine, but with the planet itself described in detail and both sides more moraly gray, encouraging players to join either without having to make stray away from their preffered character arcetype.

Some GM intusion in form of PvE dangers would also be fun. Personaly, i was quite anticipating the fight against Dragunov in Crapton's MV, and were somewhat exited to join the Boss Battle going on now, but the character power level was way to out of my comfort zone. Lesser enemies could add some spice to the game as well; and if the GM doesn't have the time, PvP can still remain an option after all - why not have both?

I think we should also steer clear of plots and SL's that are reliant on a single writer to progress, or at least make sure that multiple people always know where things are headed and can steer them in that direction. One of the things that killed Skalla's MV was that first he left, then the only other person who knew about and could progress the story disappeared.

Well I'm glad to see interest, but four people does not an arena make. We'll need to grab the attentions of other arena goers.
(Four because Biddz is not two feet away from me as I type this.)

Alright, so:

I've got a few basic ideas, a very diverse world something like Runeterra from league of legends. You know, with many different terrains and locales for combat. Small sub-factions and roving groups of powered beings, as well as large over-arching powerful beings leading powerful factions. I'll have to write those up later.

The way I'm thinking of going about it with characters has to accept all kinds of characters, so people aren't adamantly opposed to entering simply because their favorite character would be excluded.

A maximum of 3 low tiered characters.
A maximum of 2 mid tiered characters.
A maximum of 1 high tiered character.

Per person of course, because everyone loves having multiple characters on the map at the same time. It adds diversity, and of course it's really just fun to have different characters in different situations.

The power regulations on the characters will also have to be both strict and open, so I'll have to review them myself.

I guess I should also get to work on a plot and a map.

Start with the plot, build the map around it, because that's how you make the map realistic.

Biddz will also help with the writing as well, don't worry about the multiple writers to keep the plot in motion.

I'm a big supporter of persistent large scaled arena roleplays. There's a few places the previous one crashed pretty hard, besides the points made already. So if you'd like to hear my humble suggestions to fix these issues in the future;

- Stick to one planet/location/realm; Having different locations is all well and good, but I thought it was way more of a hassle than fun to come up with reasons why any of our characters were sticking around in the places they were. Simplicity over complexity when it comes to locations and geography, please. Faction building is a lot easier the more compact the world is. Rather than "There's some empire sixty thousand lightyears away that will never threaten me, or the faction I'm loyally fighting for? Well, okay. Uhm."

- Perhaps introduce an actual in-game arena? Along the lines of what League of Legends (and similar games) have done? Could solve the issue of "Why are we even fighting!?" when they're put into a fight specifically to defeat their opponent. This is an ARENA roleplay after all. Plots and stories could carry out outside of these, and fights wouldn't neccesarily have to be restricted to that, but it's nice to have the option. A sort of in-world accepted "This is where people go to fight, because reasons."

These are just suggestions of course. I have no idea what you have in mind, and I'm probably up for it regardless.

Also, please, please, please, 10-tier scale?

Edit: Oh, you already thought of the League of Legends thing. Nice.

Edit Edit: Setting-consistent world would be nice though. Characters tweaked slightly to (fluff-wise) to co-exist within the same setting is much more fun and interesting than a big heap of special snowflakes that couldn't be more out-of-this-world if they tried. Again, in my humble opinion.

Well alright, I think I've garnered enough attention. I'll begin writing up the rough synopsis for the roleplay and I'll have the OOC open in about 1-2 hours.

Got the perfect ideas I need to make this RP much more professional, with less disagreements and with more staying power than the previous.

I honestly hope great things come out of this.

I lied, it's taking me a bit longer than I would have liked it to. I'm reading over previous Arenas to create an efficient system of rules, and got lost in my reading. Expect it up later tonight at least.
