I'm at a limited pre-release event.

I thought for a bit "maybe I'll be on an even keel since we're all going to be making new decks"

I thought "I'll have a chance."

I thought "how hard can drafting be?"

I'm the worst.

There are two types of people in the world: those who were born knowing how to play Magic and those that were not.

I honestly thought I wasn't bad fundamentally, I just can't make good decks apparently.

It went okay

I'm actually starting to lose some momentum and excitement about the whole thing. :/

If you're not good at something right away, never try again.

It is partially the way you build your deck, but also understanding how to use that deck to your advantage. You gotta keep playing in order to improve. Synergies matter as well. Not just the color of the cards, but the effects of the cards. You also need to balance your deck properly. I have seen so many good decks lose, because their opponent was quicker at building momentum when their strategy was solid in general.

But sorry to hear that otherwise.

Is this good advice or terrible advice? Can't tell.

I do understand synergy and balance and all that. I just have no experience with these cards or building my own deck. I got real good at an Xbox version of the game.

I guarantee I would be able to use a netdeck to it's full potential if I went that route. Which I am not going.

My first pre-release thing I did, I got two wins right away. This was awesome being a novice/casual player.
Right before my next match my opponent in a fedora rolls out his playing mat.

I love the game, that does not mean I'm any good.
I will usually only play with my friends, allot of the geekier people at my school will freak out at me if I pronounce something wrong or will touch/move my cards around.

She's being sarcastic. Normal people don't start off being good at something (there's a reason terms like "child prodigy" exist -- they are aberrations). Everything is an acquired skill and practice makes perfect. You're not good at building decks right now but if you keep doing it, you will be eventually. Just like everyone else at the event who beat you. It's their experience building decks in general, not their (lack of) knowledge of the specific cards that were used, that mattered.

I too have my own custom card game. And it's better than lame ass nerdy ass Yu-gay-ho or Magic or Pokemons or Vanguard or Beyblade.

If you're interested in buying a Started Deck, PM me.

Awson, you'll learn to be better as time progresses, don't worry. Plus I mostly play Modern as a casual player so you're doing rather okay.
