This is a mature take on the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Adult themes will be explored and played out including love, murder, death, war, possible drug references, etc. The Setting is near future and takes place in the world of Avatar and in and around the last city on Earth known as The Republic, formerly Republic City, now situated in Ba Sing Se. If this is your cup of tea, please continue.

The World...
World of Avatar (Not game specific)

This story takes place two centuries after Aang's passing in a place known as The Republic, the last nation on Earth. This nation is made up almost entirely of nonbenders after benders were aggressively removed from the face of the planet. Everyone lives happily within the walls of Ba Sing Se where they have been enjoying a time of great peace. The city itself is still divided by walls although most of the walls are no longer made of Earth. Replacing the parts that have been torn down are man made metal sections that stand just as tall and are twice as strong. Technology here is near future, near future as compared to real life modern technology. They have computers, jets, wearable tech, limited AI. There are two types of firearms in the world: Conventional and those that utilize Spirit Energy or Synergy. The later is rare and is only distributed among those Republic troops stationed in the inmost wall. Social class is still divided by the walls, with poverty increased the farther away from the center one finds himself.

Outside the walls of Ba Sing Se is the dead world. A great conflict from the past scarred much of the landscape with destructive weapons leaving the former capitols of nations blanketed in spiritual radiation. Wandering into these areas will leave one with a life force draining effect that will eventually kill that person. Most of these dangerous zones are marked by signage or some other such warning. The war pushed much of the flora and fauna to extinction with those left being forced into a populated controlled environment so that they can be farmed. This has left much of the world barren with little life to be found and many sources of water poisoned. The southern spirit portal has been sealed though the northern portal has been kept open and is used to harvest Spirit Energy.

Life inside the walls of the city, as opposed to outside the walls, is still good and the people live happily. What few benders that are known to exist work for the Republic and all follow the will of the King who rarely reveals himself to the public eye. To keep this peace, benders are outlawed and are actively search for and expunged. Low enforcement officers are armed with scanning devices that detect the ability to bend in one's genes. Many establishments in the city have them installed over doors as well for their own protection. Hospitals have begun enforcing abortions when an unborn child is discovered to be sensitive to spirit energy. If a bender is discovered lethal force by an officer is authorized. It may seem grim but since these laws have been put into place, there have been little to no conflicts... let alone wars.

The Story...
Our story focuses on four individuals who discover they have the potential to bend the elements when very few can and when doing so is outlawed. They must learn to cope with their new found powers, embrace and master them or discard and forget them, and finally, find out what happened to the Avatar.

The History...

Everyone knows the story of Aang, savior of the world and the man that would finally bring Fire Lord Ozai to his knees. Not only would he blanket the world in a relative state of peace after a century of war but he would also bring his people back from the brink of extinction... with the help of Katara of course. Following this generation of heroes would be Korra. The hotblooded and headstrong Avatar would come into conflict with not one but four individuals bent on bringing the world a different kind of pain. Amon, Unalaq, Zaheer, Kuvira. All of them presented her with a different challenge and she would have to learn to overcome each of them while struggling against her own demons. She would eventually prevail and her story would end... though that of the Avatar would not.

In the time between Korra's triumph and her death, technology would progress in leaps and bounds. The discovery of spirit energy siphoned from spirit vines opened a whole new horizon for what was once an industrial age. The process of harvesting that energy was refined and it's respective uses ballooned thanks in part to Varricks Global Industries. Varrick unceremoniously dubbed the new source of energy "synergy". Satomobile Industries turned out the modern car, vehicles that ran on hybrid engines utilizing both fuel and synergy. The Airship turned into the first spaceship and the airplane became a jet. Varricks would go on to design smaller versions of the cannon that had once been attached to the large mecha suit used to terrorize Republic City. However, not wanting to further upset the fragile balance of the spirit and real worlds, he would eventually abandon these designs... and move on to create conventional firearms. It was in truth Korra's last request, her fear being that these advances would be the fuel for the fires of another great war.

And so another century would pass and Korra's legend would soon come to a close. The cycle of the Avatar would be passed into another and unto the world would be birthed another hero, someone who would bear the weight of everyone's pain.

Except the Avatar was never to be found and fate instead would usher in a new era of darkness.

The Great Panic... or so we called it. A tumultuous and confusing time when the people of the world searched for their savior and found none. In their panic, the citizens of the world clung to a simple truth: the last Avatar to disappear was Aang and soon after his disappearance the Fire Nation set to engulfing the world in a never ending war.

Another war was coming.

What followed the panic was the violence that so often accompanies it. Civil Wars broke out among the bending nations and the leaders of those nations began to butt heads in an attempt to learn what the other was hiding. The Earth Kingdom received the worst of it as did it's sister city Zaofu. The Avatar was after all in line to reincarnate as a native Earth bender. Small raids and infiltration by the other nations were constant and sporadic, most of which served as taunts to lure the Earth Kingdom and her armies outside it's precious walls. Ba Sing Se began preparations to reply in kind. The Republic, formerly Republic City, had by now grown into it's own nation of nonbenders and a few benders alike. Concerned for their own safety, the President and his table of advisers moved to take action... and not just for themselves. Fearful that the entire world was ready to plunge itself into another war, they agreed by vote on eliminating the only viable threat.

Benders. They'd been the cause of all conflicts past and present and it was time they found a solution.

The Great War. A conflict that would be remembered by all. The Republic moved swiftly. Reviving old designs by the late Varrick, they began production on new and improved synergy weapons, firearms made of platinum capable of emitting small sporadic beams of volatile spirit energy. They provided the most obvious of benefits, giving nonbenders a way to fight back against benders. Their first target was Zoafu. The most prominent and powerful Earth benders resided in the city and sure enough, the city proved the most difficult to occupy. However, their power over the Earth was helpless against the weapons of the Republic. Zoafu was then used as a base of operations to wage their campaign against Ba Sing Se. Rallying the other nations to their cause was an easy enough task. They already believed the Earth Kingdom was hiding the new Avatar and their past with Republic City placed them at odds with everyone else.

The siege that followed was rather quick. Synergy cannons were used to punch large holes in the Earthen and metal walls while continuous assault from the air softened up defenses for those on the ground. From there, a combined army made up of the Fire and Water nations and that of the Republic stormed the capitol. It was the first time in the history of the world that Ba Sing Se had been successfully invaded.

And then there followed a massacre. The citizens of the Earth Nation were "interrogated" and finally killed in the name of finding the Avatar. With the only people capable of defending themselves against conventional firearms out of the way, the Republic turned their guns around to face the rest of the world. Their demands were rather simple: Join or die. When the nations refused, bombs were dropped... and millions were slaughtered. The Fire and Water nation were the first to go. Their capitols were reduced to dust in the wake of nuclear warfare. The Air temples were similarly destroyed and the Air nomads, still a budding nation, were chased into oblivion.

At the end of the war, the Republic made Ba Sing Se it's permanent home and effectively the last city on Earth. The rest of the world had been permanently scarred, Synergic radiation blanketed much of the landscape being the most prominent around the former capitols of each nation. Soil became infertile and many sources of water were poisoned. Most of the flora and fauna had been driven to extinction and the world lay barren.

The Republic set to work rebuilding, erecting the walls it tore down and shutting their sins out with the world they destroyed. The nation grew once more, stronger now without the threat of the bender or another war... and peace found the land.

-After delivering a decisive blow to the Avatar, Zaheer is defeated along with his three cohorts and he is imprisoned.

-Kuvira's campaign against Republic City is brought to an end and she is imprisoned. In the wake of the destruction left by her mecha suit a new spirit portal is opened.

For those just stumbling upon this RP: The game is still open and accepting. At the very least I would like to have one more player to add to the three who have already expressed interest.

Feedback from everyone is also welcome as are ideas and such that would help to move the plot or create a new one.

Also just wanted to let you know that I'll be constantly updating the original post to keep up to date with the story. Right now I feel the need to complete full character sheets for my NPCs so they can be better understood.

The first official IC post won't be up until tomorrow at the earliest. I will be away from my computer and will only have access to the site through my phone. From there I can still review and accept applications. If however you would like to get things going after being accepted. Feel free.

Finally any questions about the setting and where this story may go or anything pertaining to the game is welcome. PM me and I should get back to you shortly.

Edit 1: Just a warning. This will only be the second game I've been a GM over. Things my be a little rough so forgive me.

Edit 2: Just so it's clear, everyone's bending ability will be well below basic. No one in the general populace has bent anything in years and there are no teachers. Characters will eventually have to find their own way to master their element... if master is even an attainable caliber now.

Work doesn't need me so I have time to put down a quick something to keep you all updated. As of the time of this posting, I've started work on the IC. However I'll have to leave again and won't be able to complete it before I do. I'll be away again for most of the day so if it's not up by tonight, It'll be up early tomorrow morning.

So far I've accepted McHaggis, confuzzler and CLIW as air, water and earth benders respectively. There are still two more roles that need filling: a Firebender and a character that cannot bend the elements. The last is an optional add which I'll be happy to play myself.

Also one more thing. I know it's a bit of a bother to ask but to make it easier for everyone including myself, if you could copy and past your character sheets into the characters tab, that would be a huge help. I would do it myself but each of you would be unable to freely edit it yourself. It'll keep things clean not to mention make referencing a breeze.

And that's about it for now. Sorry for the small delay but rest assured I'm not going anywhere. Can't wait to play with you all.

Good morning!

So quick update. Putting together the IC post as promised. It's looking pretty good so far. First one is always the longest for me but I promise you won't have to match it's length and the rest are going to be short and sweet. If you're wondering who exactly I'm playing, I'll just be getting the ball rolling with the NPCs I've mentioned and a good description of the world. My to do list for today includes completing full CSs for those characters and creating my own to throw into the mix.

More importantly... the two open spots are now pending! Soon our party will be full and our little game will take flight.

If you guys don't want to wait for me to post, feel free to start. If you have any questions about the setting or what the world should look like, feel free to ask me. General questions can be laid out in the OOC. Plot specific, collaboration requests, or anything about your character you do not want to reveal just yet can be PMed.

Enough has happened to constitute a new announcement. As of now, this game has closed. I will not be adding anymore new players into the mix though new characters from any of you is always welcome. However, I will be saving CS submissions from anyone willing to sub in later in the case that someone must leave the game and is not planning to return soon. So now that we're closed and the first IC post has been up, I think this roleplay has officially started!

Secondly, and this is more for me and my accomplishments today. I've managed to squeeze in some time to finish a CS for the King and a rough timeline of events so that you can all understand where we stand as far as the year and such.

Finally just a little snub of information about how I plan to GM this game. I've been in quite a few roleplay over a handful of years and although I've only ever GMed once before, I've observed all of the ones I've played under. All of them, or most of them, were pleasurable experiences. The ones that stood out to me were the games that involved the GM sticking a finger into each of the other players stories and mixing things up a bit.

Now I won't be doing anything dramatic but I'll be sure to play in essence the entire world. Meaning if your character does something insignificant to an unnamed NPC that you as the player don't plan on utilizing later... I may jump in and turn that NPC into a threat. Basically some of your actions may have consequences that will effect the story as a hole. I'm not too shabby at weaving stories together from the beautiful confusion that is roleplay.

To help me in my conquest of making a fun and engaging game... is the collaborative doc which I haven't completely figured out how to use. I used to use EtherPad which was amazing but that's gone now and so we're stuck with Google Docs. Once I figure out all the kinks, this will help us collab with each other seamlessly.

Hi everyone! Time for another update.

Just finished a great piece of collaborative writing with McHaggis. Doing some final editing and the post should be up soon. However a good point was brought up that I'd like to address. Actually more precisely, a point I should have put into the OOC. It's kind of important.

Basically it concerns character development and more specifically for our game, your character's discovery of their bending ability. I intended to bestow upon each of you the freedom to decide how and when they discover they can bend and I still want to do that. This first arc is really each character coming to terms with who they are. That being said, if you don't already have a plan for their initial discovery or need some ideas... Let me know! Just to be sure though I'll be messaging each and everyone one of you to get a general idea of where everyone is at.

Don't be afraid to add you're own bits of lore or conspire among each other to weave together a great story.

Unless I've forgotten something, I think that was all I wanted to say.

Personality: Yara is a total sap, an adamant pacifist, she is as naive as they come, and willing to give the shirt off her back to a total stranger. She believes anything at face value, despite knowing that she shouldn't, and wholeheartedly believes that every person is good. In large part her general patheticness is responsible for her appearance. After shaving off half her hair, dying the rest, adding a few piercings, and carrying shiny blades where she can she found alot less people were willing to take advantage of her personality.

Bio: Born and raised in what was left of the Northern Water Tribe, her father was a "Spiritual advisor" spending most of his time at the spirit portal, while involved in her life he was never nearly as much as her mother. Her mother on the other hand was a rather high ranking official in the local militia. She was gruff tough, and took a pretty hardline approach to just about every situation. So it is no wonder that in her rebellious nature, Yara took after her father's passive attitude. She took to meditating on problems rather than taking action against them, and whether it was actually working or that everyone was just terrified of what her mother might do to them if things didn't work out. Things always did for Yara.

Eventually though her parents felt it was pretty apparent that living in what amounted to the remnants of a once great civilization with no real stations to aspire to wasn't what they wanted for her. They sent her to Ba Sing Se to live with her rather wealthy uncle. Unfortunately though the change of scenery wasn't something she took to very well. She was homesick, the city was massive, and completely foreign to her. She spent almost all of her free time for a long time just meditating, not entirely sure what she was trying to accomplish. Eventually though she gave up and ventured into the world, though she quickly found that despite still living a rather comfortable lifestyle, everything had changed. She was no longer the daughter of a woman who would blow your brains out at a whim. She was the naive niece of a rich fat uncle who himself was rather detached. It wasn't long before others noticed, schoolmates, beggars, boyfriends. It was obvious people were taking advantage of her, but she was steadfast in her beliefs and would not alter them, instead choosing to change her appearance to something a bit more intimidating.

Extra: Despite her pacifist nature, Yara is trained in basic swordplay and throwing knives for self-defense. She is pretty strictly against guns though.

Maybe a little wider.

Personality: Headstrong, defiant and ornery. He tends to follow the rules... unless he doesn't agree with them, in which case he'll completely ignore them. He is always hungry, and the second he sees leftovers he will pester for them. Or just take them, depending on what he thinks of the person who 'owns' them. He has a habit of biting his nails, and he often talks louder than he means to. He can't really help it because most of the time he doesn't realize it. Although he's loud when he does talk, good luck getting him to open up to strangers.

Bio: Completely unaware that he is an earthbender, and happy about that. Ignorance is bliss. Konkiri was born into a fairly poor family, although they coped well with their status. He grew up an only child, which may have contributed to his personality early on. What really tortured him was the lack of food to ever really satisfy his voracious teenage boy appetite (which never went away). He was close to his family, but lost most contact with them after moving to another part of the city to work a laborious factory-related job that paid little.

I am going to retract my offer to be in this roleplay, sorry for it but I might as well quit instead of the middle of the story. I was looking at multiple rolepalys but my eyes were bigger than the writer inside me so again, Sorry! Have fun in your roleplay, I'll come back once in a while to see how its going ^.^
