Short Bio: James is a shut in kid, he's been gaming since he was twelve. Making his career in online matches a five year ride, the announcement of SAO was huge news to him. "Finally a virtual reality RPG!" He stalked the social media pages of Akihiko Kayaba, waiting for beta testing codes. He eventually obtained one and spent the following nights with the Nerve Gear securely fastened to his head.

This gave him advanced knowledge about the early floors of the game. He knew the fastest ways to level up, the best ways to obtain money and loot, and the most rewarding quests. This gave him an edge over all the other players, something which he was quite proud of. Being so familiar with the game, he was one of the first to notice the log out button missing on the day of the official release of SAO. Confused and a little scared, he began to panic. When Kayaba transported all the players into the Town of Beginnings and told them what he had done, James was very determined to rise to his challenge "I won't die in here, I can't." His first thoughts were those of resistance, he wasn't going to just lay down and die. He immediately began thinking of how he could beat the game. He knew he couldn't do it alone, so he began recruiting capable players to help him clear the floors.

Personality: James is a natural leader and possesses a certain degree of charisma. People seem to be content letting him pave the way for them in most challenges, and he can usually be found at the front of a battle. He's acceptably well mannered and has good control over his emotions. However he has a large fear of letting people down, stemming from his father's abandonment.

Skills:

Battle Drive
Arthur gains increased attack speed and strength for a little under a minute, granting him the ability to take on foes stronger than himself. Furthermore it allows him a greater ability to go into fights alone.

Call of Valor
Arthur embodies the ideal of hope and strengthens his comrades with a mighty battle cry, causing their attack and defense to multiply 1.25x

Equipment:

Draconian Longsword
This blade is of very fine quality, and it cost a pretty penny. It's among the best weapons available on the first floor.

Armor of the Golden Dragon
This armor was commission by Arthur to identify himself as the leader of his guild. It has superior defensive capabilities and offers excellent protection from attacks. However it slows Arthur down and makes his running speed lower than someone in leather.

Tohru

Short Bio: Tohru isn't exactly the type of guy to spend his time playing video games. Honestly, the sole fact that he's become imprisoned in SAO was shocking for more than one person in his house.

Tohru is the heir apparent of a long line of Japanese traditionalists, hence why he couldn't keep his hair short as it is a custom in his house for men to use their hair long.

His family proclaims that it is their duty to keep Japan's traditions alive and kicking. Tohru thinks that they are just crazy, but they seem to truly believe this from the bottom of their hearts.

As such, Tohru has been trained in several aspects of the Japanese culture ever since he was young. He knows how to make tea the traditional way, smashing the tea leaves and whatnot, tea ceremonies, caligraphy, even some formal training in Japanese kenjutsu with a katana.

However, no one ever really did think that Tohru had any intention of taking over the Hazamura house, and they were spot on. Tohru really had no intention whatsoever of taking over house Hazamura, but he did not know how he would ever be able to avoid that.

Little time before the release of SAO, though, Tohru's family was blessed with the birth of a baby boy, and Tohru became certain that this boy would be able to take over his duty as the succesor.

The question was how, though. Tohru had heard from his grandfather, however, that video games poisoned the mind of younglings and strayed them away from the path of what was correct, and there was a certain Virtual Reality game that was going to be released soon-ish.

Tohru decided to give it a try. Of course, he never really did think that that 'try' would end up in the whole mess he now finds himself in.

Personality: Tohru is, at first, really polite and caring. He often calls other people's names with the suffix 'san' added at the end of them.

When you get to know him, though, you'll see that he is as likely to diss you as he is to praise you. He is often sarcastic and even cruel at times, preferring to face a harsh reality rather than sugarcoating the truth.

He is also hardheaded, competitive and strong willed, not to mention fiercely loyal. It can be quite hard to get him off your back or out of something once he's become attached.

Skills:

Unrelenting Aegis

At the cost of becoming unable to move, Tohru becomes able to absorb any kind of damage done to him for 10 seconds.

Taunt

This skill can be activated either through verbal activation or through physical taunts. Basically, it switches the aggro of monsters and players towards Tohru

Lance Of The Seven Seas

Pretty name, not so pretty stats. It is a drop from a crab monster that he found rather out of place in the first floor. It is durable, it is handy and it can pack quite a punch, but it is about average.

Sea Great Shield

It matched with his lance's name, so he bought it. It does its work to protect both Tohru and his teammates, so it should do for now

Armor of the Seafarer

Tohru made it a custom of his to go out and fish. After getting a big fish in a little pond from a quest, he was rewarded with this armor. It isn't as stuffy or as intimidating looking as other armors, but its defense is top notch, just like what Tohru was looking for.

Short Bio: Yutaka was always something of an odd-ball, and never really fit in with those around him. He always seemed to fade into the background. Though he is smart enough and skilled enough that he could be noticed if he pushed himself, he never bothered to put forth the effort. He enjoyed sitting in the shadows, watching other people deal with their drama and stresses while he led a relatively simple life. Trouble seemed to pass him by as often as any of his peers.

The Itoh family was not wealthy, but neither did it lack for anything Yutaka might need. His parents worked constantly, often leaving him to his own devices. Eventually sleeping for days on end lost its appeal and he began to take up hobbies, gaming among them. The release of SAO was important to him because that game seemed perfectly suited to his situation. With endless free time he saw no reason not to dive in head first. By this time he was well acquainted with gaming in general, and felt prepared to take on the world. The revelation that dying in the game had serious consequences only made him all the more determined to find his place in this new world and survive to its eventual end.

Personality: Yutaka has ever been the quiet type, staying out of other peoples' business and hoping they kept to themselves. He doesn't speak often, and when he does it comes out blunt and direct. Something of a cynic, he is not afraid to force people to face the brutal truth when they try to delude themselves or others. While he does tend to read people fairly well, he isn't very comfortable in or used to social interactions, and often seems somewhat awkward or eccentric.

'Lloyd' has only come to favor his place in the shadows even more, and though he is often more open than the real Yutaka, he is generally as silent. It is not easy for him to trust others, but he is a loyal companion to those he respects among his peers.

Skills:
Shadow Rush - Lloyd cloaks himself in shadows, fading from sight before rushing in to deliver a critical blow. If he is struck during the preparation or while invisible, the skill is negated entirely.

Blurring Strike - Lloyd attacks in a way meant to off-balance his opponent rather than injure them. For about thirty seconds afterwards he is slightly faster and his movements are blurred, making him more difficult to hit.

Equipment:
Simple Falcata - This sword is fairly basic, but effective for Lloyd's fighting style. While the majority of its stats are average for a short blade, it adds additional attack power to sword skills and critical strikes. It also has a very minor bleed effect, causing those struck to lose a small amount of HP over time.

Leather Shield - A small reinforced round shield. Lloyd uses it when pressed in melee combat to make up for his overall weak defense. While it is light enough for him to use and carry easily, it still provides enough of a boost for him to hold the line for a moment when he has to.

Rogue's Armor - This lightweight leather armor is relatively simple, but does come with a slight boost to agility and resistances. It offers fairly low physical defense, but is better than nothing and allows Lloyd to be stealthier than anything heavier would.

Short Bio: Karen came to be trapped in the game by chance. She wasn't a gamer in the least bit. She was a highschool aged girl who was extremely popular and fun in her grade. She constantly went to rallies for women's rights and other issues that were important to her. Her Uncle, Kevin Lachance, is the representative of NerveGear in America, and Karen made a bet with her cousin, Benjamin, that she could clear the first level before him. Ben was a computer nerd and a beta tester. He hacked the NerveGears so that their avatars would be more beautiful than the rest of them. However, what he didn't plan on was the cousins putting on the wrong helmets. Karen's helmet had the hacked male avatar, and Ben's had the hacked female one. It was just supposed to be friendly competition, but now they were lost in Aincrad, and lost to each other, as they have no idea what the other one looks like!

Personality: As Karen, she was a girly, passive-aggressive teenager, who loved binge watching TV shows and painting her nails. She had no idea of privilege or the respect others may deserve. But once she was trapped in the game as Sol, he became a survivor. Fighting in an unknown land, he was out of his element. He grew to be untrusting and defensive. (Even though his attack style is primarily offensive.) He does occasionally show signs of his old self, however.

Skills:
Dual Class Proficiency - Sol has a hybrid class of Mage/Swordsman.

Burst - Once a day, Sol can increase his speed x 1/4 of his level for X1/4 of his level.
Ex: If he is level five, he moves X1.25 faster for 1.25 seconds.

Elemental Control Using his Elemental Star, Sol can summon fireballs and streams of fire. This drains energy.

Equipment:

Elemental Star - Sol has a magical item that was hidden in the starting town. The star is a pendant with a four pointed star on it. Sol has only unlocked the Fire element so far.

Basic Cloak - A basic level five black hunting cloak that Sol purchased in the starting town.

Short Bio: Mikoto has loved video games her entire life. All through elementary school, she was the one everybody came to when they needed level grinding done. She earned herself the nickname, The RPG Queen, for her love for turned based combat. When the announcement was made that there was a virtual reality MMO in the making, she jumped on the chance to beta test, but unfortunately never made it in. Instead she had to wait until the game came out. Becoming trapped in the game honestly didn't bother her that much, death was a threat everyday anyway. But still she wanted to work her hardest in order to get back out to the real world. The sequel to her favorite RPG of all time was coming out in six months, there was no way she was missing that.

Personality: Mikoto/Isa, is an extremely quiet and serious individual. She is focused and disciplined, putting her all into everything she does, even if she doesn't like it. She's intelligent and gets bored easily with things that don't make her think. Observant and level headed, she is known to be stone faced almost all the time. She can come off as cold and uncaring, and in some ways she is. She's socially awkward and doesn't really do well with other people, she prefers to get things done on her own and not rely on others. Something that is going to have to change if she wants to survive the game.

Skills:

Dragon Dance
A skill that basically sums up Isa's incredibly unique fighting style. While most spear users focus on strength and defense, Isa focuses on speed, agility, and jumping power. Making her a self proclaimed dragoon. Her fighting style is very light footed, nimble, and graceful, thus making it look like she's dancing with the enemy.

Dragon's Flight
A leaping skill that makes it look as if Isa is flying for a short period of time. Isa jumps high into the air, then comes back down spear first on top of the enemy. Great for grounding flying targets, or bringing large targets down to size.

Equipment:

Sonic Spear
Made from a light, but durable metal, it is the lightest spear in the early game. Increases attack speed and can be wielded one or two handed. A rare drop from a wind slime enemy.

Wind Armor
Light weight armor made from the same material as her spear, it gives equal boosts to defense and agility. Received as a reward for completing a quest.

Short Bio: Seth had always been the quiet shy kid in his class. He wanted to be involved in activities, but never felt like he had a real opportunity. He was too shy, and everyone knew it. When advertisements for SAO began appearing, Seth determined he would participate. It would give him a chance to be someone new, and to reinvent himself the way he wanted to be. He made himself taller, changed his hair, and determined he would be the life of the party and the center of attention. He spent so long on his character design, that he had only just entered the game when he was teleported to the town of beginnings.

After the announcement, he wandered off, determined to find a drop interesting enough to make himself popular. He eventually found his way to a village plagued with aquatic invaders. He stayed there for a long while, believing that if he repelled the aquatic monsters long enough, there was bound to be a good drop. His persistence paid off, and eventually he encountered a rare miniboss responsible for the raids. Having spent so long fighting the invaders, and learning their attack patterns, Seth was able to beat the miniboss and gained the rare drop he was looking for. It was a rare bow. He immediately commissioned matching armor using scales dropped from the weaker enemies. Thus equipped, he set out to find a guild and gain some friends, fortune and fame. Just because the fight was real, didn't mean he wanted to be his normal self in SAO. He was still going to make himself into the ideal he had joined for.

Personality: Seth is inherently shy and quiet, but he makes a conscious effort as Kyzin to be outgoing. he tries to be the life of the party, and is unduly concerned with fashion. So much so, that he will often unequip his armor whenever he is in town to show off his stylish clothes. He is constantly torn between his ideal self in Kyzin, and his natural tendencies as Seth. The bow is nice, since it allows him to maintain his distance in combat and be a little more shy. So he redoubles his efforts out of battle to be the most popular guy around.

Skills:

Aim: Allows him to increase his accuracy at the cost of his rate of fire. While aiming, he can target specific points of an enemy to inflict debuffs based on where he hits and how much damage is dealt. This ability can be used in conjuction with other abilities, like pierce.

Pierce: Fires a powerful arrow that can pierce through and damage multiple targets. Especially good for clearing waves of weaker enemies.

Equipment:

Lizard Lord's Longbow:

This bow has the ability to do increased damage with distance from the target. The further away, the greater the damage, although its harder to hit with.

Sahuagin Scale Armor:

This armor matches his bow, and also allow for a high degree of movement, even going so far as to aid in underwater movement. Its other stats are passable, but not particularly impressive.

Short Bio:
Sebastian Floyd. If you said the name in his school, everybody would know who you were talking about. Sebastian is probably the most popular student at his school. Compared to some of the other guys, he was great looking with his flowing blonde hair and smooth skin. He got decent grades and was the star of the soccer team. He was the best shooter the school has had in years. For Sebastian, life was perfect, and he had no worries about anything at all.

Sebastian didn't hang out with many popular kids though. His friends were all kind of the students who didn't have many friends and didn't really fit in.
There was Nick. Nick generally disliked people but he was fond of Sebastian... maybe a little too fond. Alex, who was probably Sebastian's best friend, had Verbal Dysdecorum. This basically meant he couldn't censor what he said. Whatever came to his head just kinda, popped out.

And then there was Dylan. Dylan was an avid gamer and was very excited for the release of SAO. As a birthday present, Dylan got Sebastion a NerveGear... Sebastion didn't play video games. He was into sports. Soccer, kickboxing, frisbee, he enjoyed them all but sitting inside wasn't extreme enough - even with a helmet on. Dylan was looking forward to playing SAO with him though, so Sebastion couldn't say no. However, once in the world, he couldn't get out. It was terrifying, and he searched for Dylan, only to find his friend, dead. Killed by someone who didn't believe that you would truly die. As a reminder to survive, for Dylan, he took his miaodao.

Personality:
Sebastian Floyd is caring. He is kind, funny, just an average kid. He doesn't want to be popular, he just happens to be good looking. He doesn't play soccer to be noticed as athletic and cool. He plays it because he enjoys playing the game. He wants to be left alone most of the time because he doesn't really like talking too much. He'd rather express himself through movement. However, if somebody needs help, Sebastian wouldn't sit by idly, no matter how much he feels like being alone.

Skills:
Pinpoint
Mightous gains a much greater focus, enabling him to see further and notice important details.

Blinding Dash
Mightous can dash forward about 5 meters in any direction at an insane speed. However, it drains energy from him and while dashing, he can't attack or defend. This means if somebody anticipates his dash, they could attack him without him being able to defend.

When Dylan died, Sebastian took his sword. It was forged and engraved by Dylan. It may not be the best, but it'll keep Sebastian fighting to survive.

Mystic Tunic of Orochi
A tunic named after an eight-headed serpent. Made of quality fabrics and cost quite a lot. The blue on his tunic seems to shine in the moonlight.

Short Bio: Liam was born to a loving Japanese mother and Irish Father, with a not so loving older brother. Liam’s life was pretty normal. However it was around the age of ten that his then 16 year-old brother decided that he would start bullying him even more. For the next seven years Liam was bullied relentlessly the only thing keeping him from going over the edge was his passion for medieval combat, writing, parkour and gaming. As the years rolled past Liam got more into his passions, being a parkour artist and amateur writer. Liam thought his life was really looking up….and it was on that same day he got trapped in SAO…

Personality: At a first glance Liam seems like the typical shy guy. However if one was to openly insult him or try to bully him he will not hesitate to retaliate. Eodwyn is a rather silent type only talking when he see’s the need to or is talking to those he considers friends. Eodwyn treats those he does not know with a rather cold attitude and to those that do not know him it would seem that he outright hates the person. However if anyone would get to know him, he is fiercely loyal to them and treats them as family and will stop at nothing to ensure their happiness and protection, even if it means he would come out the bad guy.

Skills:

Whirlwind Force.
Unleashes a huge gust of wind that will send the target staggering.

Tornado Sprint.
For 4 seconds Eodwyn has the ability to move at an incredible speed, at the cost of him not being able to attack.

He is also a blacksmith

Equipment:

Armor of the Wind Spirit.
An armor that Liam got as a reward for completing a quest. Allows the wearer to move faster.

Coat of enhanced protection.
A coat enhanced by Eodwyn himself that offers slightly more protection from physical attacks.

Sword of the Everlasting Air
A sword Eodwyn crafted himself that has a rather high attack speed.

Short Bio: Rika lived with a well off family for a portion of her life, and had pretty much everything she could want or ask for. She had many friends, her parents and older brother, Yoshiki, were good people. She had great grades, and was expected to have an excellent future thanks to it. However, she often found herself distracted by things that prevented her from progressing. Video gaming, constant reading; things her parents were fine with, but often found kept her back from her potential.

Yoshiki, however, took things in a different sense. He saw her as competition in a contest he was losing, and sought to rectify it. On her thirteenth birthday, he had an idea that would make money and destroy Rika forever. Every week, their parents would go out to meet up with some friends from both their personal lives and work, leaving Yoshiki in charge. On those nights, he would take her out to the garage, where he would film pornographic videos of her to sell on the streets and online. Every week, Rika would end up with a new cut or bruise that she couldn't explain, for fear of both what others might say and what Yoshiki might do.

For months this continued, and Rika's self confidence dropped to an irrecoverable level. She lost touch with friends, became antisocial, depressed, sometimes suicidal. Her parents noticed the sudden change in her attitude, but also noticed the influx of money Yoshiki had been developing for over 4 months. They questioned him, but he deflected every question they had; none related to his actual business. At the same time, Rika's father was diagnosed with a mental disorder that caused him to become increasingly irritated and paranoid at things, which could possibly end up spiralling into extreme anger. He became increasingly annoyed at his sons constant deceit, and searched Yoshiki's room. There, he found virtual copies of his business, and he did indeed spiral into a rage.

When Yoshiki returned home from school with Rika, he grabbed and knife and stabbed the boy to death, Rika stood to the sidelines watching. Minutes later, her mother came home and saw it, before running to call the police. When they came, the only ones around were Rika and her father, who threatened to kill her too. When the police came, her father was arrested, and Rika was sent to an orphanage where she lived for 3 years. On her sixteenth birthday, she moved out and began living in an apartment on her own.

On her seventeenth birthday, she received a large sum of money from one of her more distant relatives, and has been saving up to buy SAO and a NerveGear as soon as it were to come out. Her therapist hopes the game might help her get over some of the trauma she still hasn't let go of, and that maybe she will be more social.

Personality: Rika is socially awkward, blunt, often downright offensive, and quite loud. She is very passive aggressive, even when she tries not to be, and often has a hard time doing things people tell her to do, following her own path and idea to achieve the same goal. She dislikes most people, and is very picky with who she likes, and who she will stay away from. She says the first things that come to mind, and can often say things that people find rude or offensive, even if she doesn't mean for it to be taken that way. When she is excited, which is actually most of the time, she is rather loud and annoying, however she hates being the center of attention. And, to top it all off, she has absolutely no clue how to handle or deal with emotions, nor social engagement.

She still suffers residual trauma and stress from those months, and has found it hard to make friends or talk with people. She also has a distinctive distaste for men in general, and has all but become a lesbian. She also finds it hard to hold or be near knives of any kind, and often feels sick to the point of vomiting and losing conciousness when around them.

Skills:

Phantasm Blink

Upon activation, Rika become invincible, and the damage she can take is instead calculated as hits. She can take 2 hits for every level she has, and the hits are calculated by force times the amount of hits done. After this number hits zero, she is teleported 10 meters behind whatever enemy dealt the final attack.

Decieving Reaction

After using this skill, Rika becomes 0.5x as fast for every 2 levels. During this, any enemy she currently has the aggro of, or those within a 15m radius, will view her movements and actions at about a quarter of its speed. The illusion lasts for 5 seconds every 3 levels.

Equipment:

Dawn and Dusk

Dawn and Dusk are two beautifully carved daggers that scale in their stats according to a persons level. One reflects sunlight, whilst the other reflects moonlight, and are both comfortable and lightweight. They are both carved with symbols or runes, which glow when in their respected light. She bought it from a player in town who apparently recovered it from a dungeon.

Blackout

Blackout is a matte black katana that Kumori straps to her back. It does not reflect any light, and, light the daggers, has been scaling to her level. It, too, is carved with symbols, however they only glow when the blade in in contact with blood. As well, if a player is killed with this blade, their avatars name is etched into the blade in small characters. It was bought from the same player as her daggers, and he claimed it was dropped by a samurai spirit at level 10.

Nightguards Shroud

The armour Kumori wears is not really armour, but more of a dress. It has great defence for her level, and likely wont need changing for another 3-5 levels. It wont tear, and light doesn't appear on it, as if it absorbs it. At the ends there are gloves that her hands fit into, and the cuts in the bottom dont seem to move all that much when she moves.
