Hey, what time do you get off work?
Daniel wasn't too sure what was going on here. His brother seemed to recognize Ryan's friend, and it didn't seem like a very happy meeting. He walked over to the window with Ryan and shook his hand at her question, "No...I didn't know they did, otherwise I wouldn't have brought him along." He looked back, seeing James look over their shoulders and outside at the kids. His brother suddenly got really pale and looked sick. That made Daniel even more confused. He allowed his girlfriend to go off and get the kids, sitting down by the window with his suddenly strange acting brother next to him.
...
This just couldn't be happening. Why? Why, out of all the people in the world, did James Rivers have to walk into her classroom. She hoped he would leave soon. Very soon. Before he had a chance to see Lily. But, it was too late, because James had followed Daniel and Ryan to the window. He saw her. But, maybe if she was lucky enough, he might not see the similarities and put two and two together. But, luck just didn't seem to be on her side today. The look on his face showed everything. He had figured it out. He knew the little girl outside was his. She could only hope he wouldn't act on this information. Maybe he would pretend like he didn't know? He was that type of person after all. He was immature, irresponsible. Hardly the fathering type. She would be more than happy to say good bye to him and forever keep her baby girl to herself.

And as much as that would sound selfish if she said it out loud, she wasn't thinking all of this for just herself. Yes, she didn't want this ass in her life again. But she even more so didn't want him in Lily's life. This man had done so much to hurt Amelia. She didn't want him to do the same thing to that little girl. To give her false hope that she could have a loving father, only to watch him leave and never come back. No, she would not let that happen to her daughter.

She watched as Ryan left to go get the children from the playground and there was a long awkward silence until she did come back in with them. Amelia quickly went over to her crying daughter and quickly began soothing her, brushing her brown hair back from her face and wiping the tears from her bright blue eyes, "I'm so sorry you tripped sweety. Do you want Hello Kitty Band Aids or My Little Pony?"

The little girl thought for a moment and spoke with a pout, "Can I have Barbie?"

Laughing slightly, she kissed her daughter's forehead and nodded, "Of course."

Holding Ayden in his lap, he chuckled at the little boy's innocent comments about James. Leaning down, he whispered in the boy's ear, "That's my brother. He's also a big bad wolf. And you know, wolves don't know any better then to be big and bad."

Amelia walked over to her desk, and though she could feel James's eyes on she and her daughter, she did her best to ignore his gaze for now. She walked back and after cleaning up the cut, she put a band aid on it, which made all the difference. She thought it was so funny how one could kiss a boo-boo or put a band aid on it for a kid and the child would think that made it all better and act as if it never happened at all. It was silly, but it made kids all the more cuter. The little girl smiled and hugged her mother as she picked her up. Amelia hugged her back closely to her before setting her back down and running right back over to Ayden, pulling him off of Daniel's lap by his hand, "Come on Ayden! Lets go back to the playground! I want to play princess! And you can be the dragon!"

The two kids, as if nothing had happened, ran back out down the hallway, Lily squealing gleefully as Ayden chased her, roaring.

Shaking her head and smiling softly after the kids, she turned, her smile going away and her eyes on James for the time being. It was silent in the room for a long time, but Amelia decided she wasn't going to be the first to say anything about the little girl. If he wanted to know, or wanted it to be confirmed that is, he would have to bring it up. Not that it made a difference since she had also already decided she wouldn't let him anywhere near their daughter if she could help it.

Daniel, feeling the tension boiling in the room, took Ryan's hand, "Um, we're going to go sit out on the playground with the kids for a little bit." Then without another word, he walked out of the room, his girlfriend in tow and when they were out of ear shot, he spoke, "How do they know each other? What's going on Ryan?"
When Anna heard foot steps following her quickly out of the building, she was about to quicken her pace when the boy from earlier spoke to her, asking her if she needed a ride. She stopped walking and turned slightly, looking at him for a quick moment, her blonde hair slightly hanging in her face, before she nervously glanced away from him. She really shouldn't be talking to a boy she barely even knew . There was such a big risk of something slipping out that she definitely didn't want slipping. She shifted her weight nervously again from one foot to the other before she carefully spoke, her voice quiet, "I-it was no problem." She knew this was a bad idea. A really bad idea, "My name's Anna..."

She began walking toward the college again, knowing if she didn't keep moving she would be late. What if something happened while she was walking with this boy? What if her powers, for any reason, got out of control while she was with him? She had purposely avoided people, especially people like him, for such reasons. He reminded her too much of her past. Too much of Danny. Danny had been a lot like his boy. Shy. A awkward cuteness to him. She had loved that about Danny. And being around someone who acted as Danny had wasn't helping to conceal her powers at all.

She nervously readjusted her backpack on her back, her medium length straight blonde hair acting as a curtain between she and the boy walking next to her, as if she were trying to hide from him. Well, technically she was trying to hide from him, but surely he didn't know that. She bit down on her bottom lip as they went along, her body tense and unsure about what might happen. She was relieved they didn't live too far away from the school because very soon it came into view, "I....I have to get to class now. Good bye." She rushed into the university and to her class, letting out the breath she had been holding, proud of herself that she had lasted that long speaking and walking with someone like that. Maybe she was making some progress after all. But just because she had lasted that long this time, didn't mean anything. She couldn't make a abit out of walking with him and talking to him even.

He really was a nice guy. But nice guys were the ones to always get hurt. And she didn't want to hurt anyone ever again. She walked down the hallways, keeping her head down as she moved and trying to avoid bumping into anyone in the crowd of the hallways and people trying to get to their classes. She lucky made it to her class on time. It was a boring and a quick class. But, luckily was her only class for the day.

And hour and thirty minutes later, Anna walked out of her language class and sighed as she walked down the hallway, ready to walk back to her apartment. Though, she only get about halfway there when something caught her eye. A cafe and in the window was a really good looking piece of chocolate cake. She considered it for a moment before she walked into the cafe, ordering both a piece of the cake and a cup of coffee. She sat down and within ten minutes her order was brought to her and she said a small thank you to the waitress before eating quietly, sipping on her coffee silently, glancing about at all the people in the cafe. They all looked so happy. Most of them were couples, while others were just there with friends.

It was then that a conversation came to her ears.

"Geez look at her. Who comes to a place like this alone?"

"Haha, what a freak."

It was a couple, sitting a few tables down from her. They probably didn't think she could hear, but she had. When she heard their chairs squeak as the two got up to leave, Anna turned her gaze on them and suddenly a chair pulled out, tripping the two of them so they fell to the floor. She gasped, looking around frighteningly. People laughed, obviously thinking the two hadn't been watching and hadn't seen the chair there. No one had seemed to seen the chair pull out on its own, but the scared Anna, as she hadn't meant for her powers to do that Her hand clenching around the fork, she looked down, trying to calm herself as she sat there, afraid to even move at that moment, much less try to leave.
Amelia hadn't slept one bit the entire night. She was so worried about his little Lily. The doctor had told her Lily would wake up in a half hour, and yet here it was three hours later and the girl hadn't so much as moved. It was frightening. The only thing that kept Amelia from having a complete meltdown and panic attack was the slow raise and fall of the girl's chest as the oxygen mask pushed air into her. She sat there in the chair still, her held holding onto her daughter's hand gently so that, even if asleep, the girl would know her mother was still there with her and waiting for her to wake up. Her head was rested on the mattress, her eyes on her daughter, when she heard the curtain pull back. She had expected it to be a doctor to speak. Or even a nurse. But the voice that spoke shocked her. It was James. Still, she didn't look up at him, nor did she speak to him at first. She just lifted her head up from the mattress, her sad eyes staying on her daughter.

It was quiet for a long moment. The silence of a worried mother and concerned father. Finally though, Amelia break the silence, her voice a trembling whisper, "She has type two brittle asthma....she had a severe attack in the fire..." She let her free hand cover her face, trying to not even think of the possibility of what could have happened. The doctor had told her if she had been less than a minute later in getting Lily out of the house, it was like the attack would have left her unresponsive to treatment and would have likely killed her. Even now the possibility of the girl not fully recovering from this hung in the back of her head. She wasn't sure what she would do if she lost her little girl.

She felt tears escaping her eyes once again, as they had many times in the past few houses, "The doctor said she was supposed to wake up in a half hour, but its been over three hours and she's still not awake yet." Small sobs were escaping her now and she knew she couldn't say anything else to him. It was bad enough for him to see her like this. So upset. So broken. She knew if she said anything else she would break down entirely.

She didn't mention the fact she and Lillian had lost everything in the fire. It was obvious from the news they had. They had been lucky to have gotten out alive. She had heard so many stories of people being burned alive in their sleep because they hadn't woken up. She was thankful she and her daughter weren't counted among those victims. But now they past that, the question was still where they would go. To be honest, Amelia didn't have anyone she could rely on in such a way. It was likely the two of them would end up in a homeless shelter, if the child services didn't take Lily away from her first.

A small whimper came to her ears and Amelia looked up wide eyed, tears streaking her face from the hours of crying clearly visible thanks to the ash and soot on her face, to see Lily beginning to stir. She quickly stood up from her chair and held her daughter's hand a little tighter, worry on her face, "Lily? Lillian? Its me baby. Oh please wake up..."

The little girl stirred a bit more before her blue eyes opened. Her tiny hands, after letting go of her mother's hand, went to push the oxygen mask off of her face, but was quickly stopped by her mother, "No, keep it on. I know you don't like these things, but we have to make sure you don't slip into another attack." It was obvious this wasn't the little girl's first time wearing an oxygen mask and it bothered little Lily to have to wear it. She whined and leaned back, though seemed comforted as her mother climbed onto the bed to sit with her, Lily curling up into her side and resting there as Amelia gently stroked the girl's hair.

Amelia's eyes shifted over to James, and for once her gaze wasn't angry or aggravated. It was, in a way, thankful, "Thank you....for coming. It was surprising to see you came all this way to make sure she was okay."
Name: Daniel Rivers
Age: 24
Occupation: ER Tech. He gets patients set up before the doctors come to treat and check them up.
Children: None of his own, but he really is starting to think of Ayden as his own the more time he spends with Ryan and her son.
Appearance:

Other: Though Daniel is younger, he sometimes feels like he is older than James from the way he acts. As much of an ass his brother is, Daniel still cares about him and desperately tries to lead him in the right direction, even though sometimes the older boy may not listen.
Amelia turned slightly when she saw James peek his head into the room and speak to the two of them. Amelia just nodded when he said he was going to leave, while little Lily gave a weak smile before curling up against where her mother sat on the edge of the bed. She could already see it was going to be a long night. When Lily was sick it always was. With Lily having bad asthma, she was more likely to have an attack when sick, which worried Amelia more then the fact the girl was sick in the first place. When he left, she sat there, gently stroking her daughter's brown hair and humming softly to her until she was asleep and resting. This comforted Amelia a little bit. At least she couldn't feel bad in that dream land of hers. She smiled softly and leaned down, kissing her daughter's forehead before she stood and turned on the nightlight, walking out of the room.

She got a shower and got ready for bed, checking on Lily once more before heading off to her own room. The little girl was fast asleep. Good. Maybe she was sleep this sickness off. She usually did. Lily was a sickly child, she always had been. Amelia was used to taking care of her so carefully now t was second nature to her. She layed down in her bed and sighed, curling up into a ball as she layed there, thinking about everything that had happened so far today. It was so hard to believe this could happen so suddenly. If someone had told her James would be back in her life just the day before, she would have laughed in their face. James had suddenly burst himself into her life and for now he was stuck there. She wasn't sure how this would end, but she hoped it wouldn't be in any way similar to what happened six years ago. Slowly she drifted off to sleep, these worried thoughts in her head.

Smoke? Was she really smelling smoke? But....why? Surely she was dreaming this. Only, when it got so thick that she woke with a cough, she realized this was no dream. She sat up in a panic, looking around wide eyed. Smoke was floating in through her open bedroom door and her first thought of horror was something happened to her daughter. Jumping out of bed, she rushed out of the room, looking around wildly, "LILY?! LILLIAN?!" She screamed, dashing to toward the girl's room, fear striking her heart when she saw the flames were coming from the little girl's room, "NO! LILY!" She dashed forward, ignoring the pain of fire burning her arms as she attempted to shield her face from the bouncing flames. that came from the door way. Standing on her tip toes, to see over the flames, she looked to her daughter's bed, to see it empty, the covers pulled away. Confusion and fear still sweeping over her, she continued to call the child's name as the deadly flames seeped through the house, spreading quickly.

It was after she checked through all the upstairs rooms that she moved toward the stairs, where the fire was spreading down and saw at the bottom, where the flames almost were, was her daughter, laying on the floor at the foot of the stairs, unconscious. She moved toward the stairs, only to realize she couldn't go down them with the flames on them. Still in a panic, she looked down to the bottom from the top of the stairs. If she could jump and land on something soft on the bottom, she could make it and go safely to her daughter. A determined look on her face, she climbed up on the railing and seeing the couch down below, jumped. She landed on the couch with a pain filled grunt. It had hurt like hell, but at least she was till conscious and though her body was sore, she could still move. Whether it be the fact she hadn't hurt something or the drive to save her daughter, she wasn't quite sure yet.

Running over to the bottom of the stairs, the fire just a foot or two from her daughter, she scooped her up into her arms, making a dash for the door. Within seconds of making it outside, coughing up smoke, the fire trucks, police and ambulance arrived. Apparently a neighbor had seen the flames and smoke and had called. The fire men went to put out the fire, but Amelia knew watching as she and her daughter were drove away in the ambulance, it was no use. Everything the to of them had was gone.

Upon getting to the hospital, they had Lily hooked up to an oxygen mask. Apparently, she had woken up to the flames and smoke, and went to try and get Amelia, only to have the smoke block her sight, causing her to trip down the stairs. The fall, mixed with the smoke triggering an asthma attack, had caused the girl to go unconscious, and while she hadn't woken up yet, they said she would in a half hour or so. Amelia apparently had received a spranged ankle from her jump to get to her daughter. Lovely. She would be on crutches for the next week or two. Both of them looked a mess. Their pajamas they wore were ruined, blacked with soot and, in some parts on Amelia's, burned. Soot also littered both of their skin and Amelia's burns on her arms had been doctored and wrapped up in bandages.

This was a horrible way to end a already horrible day. Sitting in a chair beside her daughter's bed, watching her sleep with that gas mask on the fragile girl's face, she sighed. What would they do now? She had no where to go. At this point, she and her daughter were homeless. How would they even pay for this doctor's visit? She had no idea. And as if to remind her of her misfortune, on the tv in the hospital room, it showed the news. And on the news was no other than her burning home, the news reporter speaking about what had happened.

She felt so close to her breaking point. She rested her arms on the bed and one hand over her mouth as a few tears escaped her eyes, her hand muffling the sobs that escaped. She felt so helpless. So worried she would loose her daughter ow that she definitely couldn't take care of her anymore. So alone in this mess. So much like how she had those six years ago when she first found herself pregnant. So unsure of what laid ahead for her. So alone. So scared of what would undoubtedly happen when child services heard about this. She just knew she would loose her baby girl over this now that she couldn't support her anymore and that tore her up more than anything else in the world.
A Daniel drove along down the road with his brother in the passenger seat, he continued to tell the boy that he would just have to wait and see. The boy was persistent, but so was Daniel. Besides if James knew he was going to visit his girlfriend then he wouldn't want to come and would try to convince him to go straight home, which Daniel didn't want to do. Once they arrived at the elementary school, he didn't have to be told where to go. He had been here a few times, though all of the times he had, it had just been Ryan here working on stuff by herself. This would be the first time he would meet the teacher his girlfriend student taught for.

Walking into the classroom, he accepted the kiss on the cheek and returned it with a gentle kiss on the lips smiling at her until he heard his brother saw a name. Amelia Carter. Yes, that was what Ryan had said her friend's name was. But how did his brother know that. He looked up confused and watched as the two seemed to recognize each other.
"Oh, too bad. I was hoping to meet this lover boy of yours." She joked with a wink and laughed, "Those two will always be trouble if it involves both of them. And believe my, I think little Lily Pad is in love as well. Did you know she draws pictures of she and Ayden holding hands. Its so adorable." Giggling, she looked out the window to the lay ground again and smiled as she watched them. The little boy and girl were climbing on the jungle gym, laughing and racing each other, having as good a time as any kids could have. She continued to shuffle the papers, a smile on her face and when she had them all in order she stood up, moving toward her bag when two men walked in the room. When she looked up to see the last person she would ever want to see again, a soft gasp escaped her lips, her eyes wide and the paper's slipping from her hands, falling to the floor in a mess. Snapping out of her surprised state as quickly as she got into it, she bent down nervously picking up her papers, and looked up at him warily from under her long lashes.

What was he doing here?! Why was he here?! How could fate be so unkind to her?! She was doing god! She may not be financially stable at the moment, but she was giving everything her daughter needed! And she was a very loving mother at that! Why did it have to be him who walked through the door with who she assumed to be Ryan's boyfriend from the way the woman went over and kissed his cheek. After gathering all of her papers, she stood up straight, and stared at him for a moment before looked at Ryan and Daniel, before she looked over at James once more, an unsure look on her face. She was very uncertain about this meeting. She didn't even really know what to say to him. What was there to say? The last time she had seen him he was in bed with a stupid cheerleader. Even when she had tried to get in touch with him so many ways after finding out she was pregnant with her now four year old daughter he had shunned her and acted as if she never even existed.

Trying to calm herself, she brushed a stray strand of her dirty blonde hair back from her face and slipped the papers that needed to be graded when she got home into her bag, "James Rivers. What a....surprise?" She definitely wasn't too overly excited about this sudden meeting. Or excited at all as a matter of fact. As if completely going to ignore his presence now, she turned and slipped her bag onto her shoulder, looking over at her best friend and Ryan's boyfriend, "Its nice to finally meet you Daniel. Ryan's told me a lot about you."

Daniel nodded, "Nice to meet you too. Ryan's told me a lot about you too. I'm glad she has a good friend to talk with when I'm not around." He couldn't help but feel curious how his brother and his girlfriend's best friend knew each other. It didn't seem like the girl was happy to see James, though knowing how James was, that honestly didn't surprise him. He had probably ticked off a lot of the sluts and tramps he slept with. But then again, this girl didn't seem like a tramp or a slut. She seemed, well, like a good, normal girl. Hardly the type James slept with. Or at least, int eh short time he had been getting to know his brother anyway. And didn't she have a kid? He could have sworn he heard Ryan say her friend had a child Ayden liked to play with.

He turned his gaze back to his girlfriend, a confused look on his face, "Hey, where's Ayden? I would have thought he would be here with you."
