If one good thing came of being connected with a father who works at Stern's Shipyard, it was being able to travel by boat very easily wherever you go. It felt like he blinked and suddenly he was on the shores of Canalave City. It had its charm, with a quaint library and old chateau, but... He was never really the history type. Not when it came to stuff like this. No sooner had he arrived in Canalave did he leave it to run Route 218, encountering a Fisherman along the way that helped sharpen Tide on his way to the big city. Altaria was more than happy to body the man's gyrados. Poor thing got twisted like a pretzel before the old girl was done with it. It was kind of brutal, actually- more an execution than a performance. Not for the first time, Tide wondered what his mom and altaria got up to during her trainer days...

Altaria's brutality wasn't the only surprise in store for Tide; upon arriving in Jubilife City, he had to enter his pokemon into the local beauty contests. Or that's what he intended to do. In a wholely unforseen twist of events, gardevoir drew his attention to a poster depicting a kirlia doing balet. Tide didn't think it was actually balet, but the point was taken- Gardevoir was interested in acting, so, much to sylveon's disappointment, Tide chose to enter into the Acting Contest instead of the traditional beauty contest. To be honest, it was rather exciting- he's not sure he has ever entered a pokemon into an Acting Contest before, so this was a new experience for him!

The whole process to have his pokemon entered into the contest was straightforward and easy, despite his unfamiliarity with the contest in particular. It was just like entering into a beauty contest, only the details were slightly different. According to the nice woman at the kiosk, as is tradition, a Judge would be critisizing his pokemon, but instead of judging their appearance, they were going to be judging their, well, acting. The word 'moves' was thrown around, but he got the feeling moves weren't the only things the judges would be paying attention to.

His opponents were Jasmine with her steelix, Rusty, Keira with her 'boogying' buneary, Mimmy, and Ashlyn with her Murky murkrow. A strange mix for an acting contest, but Tide assumed they had something special in store and wished them luck on stage. First up was Rusty who, to Tide's great surprise- and the amazement of the crowd -used Iron Coat to encase its body in a dazzling steely sheen of light. It twisted and slide across the stage like a silver serpent, displaying a dexterity that belied the giant's stony body. When it was over, and the pale glow left the steelixes body, Tide was left speechless from the display. Gardevoir, beside him, watched with her characteristic stoicism, watching the proceeding's with her arms crossed. Tide wondered if she was moved, or if she really was that unflinching, but he suspected it was the former. He had seen her with her guard down. Beneath that steely- pun intended -exterior was a warmth and compassion he had scarecely seen in pokemon or trainers.

Next up was Keira with her boogying buneary. Seeing as this was not the Dance Contest, Tide was a little concerned with what Keira had in store, and... Well, buneary certainly got some cheers from the crowd. Tide had never seen so many Punch moves chained together, and he was cautious to label the varying punches and kicks from buneary as acting, but such is the way of pokemon Contests: sometimes you have it, and sometimes you don't. It's only later that Tide would realize Keira was one of the side judges, adn she had decided to experiment a little to shake thing's up. And shake things up she did. Jordan, her counterpart, could not stop sighing the entire time.

Third was Ashlyn with her murkrow, and the two hit it off immidiately. Murkrow began with a bow and a tip of its 'hat', before then taking to the air, several dark feathers left suspended in the air in its wake. The aerial manuevers that pokemon made between the feathers was something else, with rings of Dark Pulses adding splashes of color to the dark performance. If he stared long enough, it looked like a shadow made out of black feathers was chasing it through the air, each Aerial Ace a desperate gamble to escape its shadow, until at last it reached the apex of its flight, and the shadow came up and around it in a hurricane of feathers, and the murkrow came to a sudden, tragic half. For several heartstopping moments, it appeared suspended in time. Then, the shadow scattered, the murkrow was free of its pursuer, but at what cost? Slowly (Using Psychic, he noticed), it floating back down to the stage, feathers scattered around it like the remains of a lost dream. The murkrow bowed low once more, and the lights cut out. Again, Tide checked on gardevoir, guaging her reaction, and again, there was none to be gleaned.

The fourth and final contestant was Tide and gardevoir, and... To be honest? He wasn't sure what to expect. But gardevoir was always the most independent thinker amongst his pokemon. He was sure she had a plan, and so he settled in to watch and wait. To his surprise, gardevoir teleported into the middle of the stage, standing tall and gazing out into the crowd with her trademark stoicism. In the light of the stage, however, she appeared... Almost fragile, the light catching her elegant arms like blades of grass. It began slow, a hand to her heart, and then reaching out. For once, he saw an expression on her face. Surprise? Fear? He couldn't say. She stepped forward as if to catch whatever had caught her attention, then pulled into herself, her expression anguished now. She turns sharply away, showing her back to the crowd, and she kneels down, spreading her arms out wide, as if collecting the pooled shadows in front of her into her arms. Slowly, she rises, and she begins to slowly circuit the stage, holding her arms as if cradling an egg. She spins, and on her face is pure delight, as if nothing in the world could make her happier. Then, with one last turn, she throws her arms wide, as if releasing something out into the world. She raises one hand in the direction of this imaginary thing, the other placed over her chest. Something like mourning crosses her face, and it looks like she migth actually cry. But she holds it in. She bows her head, and her hand clenches into a fist. Slowly, she turns away, and begins gliding to the side, her arms down and outstretched as if guiding infant pokemon. Suddenly, she turns sharply towards the crowd, surprise on her face, and her arms are thrown back, as if protecting her imaginary charges. She steps forwards, begging with her arms and face. She pirouettes once, twice, three times in different directions, each time thrusting out her hand as if throwing an attack- and before she can make the fourth pass, she suddenly collapses to the stage. The lights almost seem to dim as th crowd regards her with silent concern. Tide is also concerned. What had happened? Eventually, gardevoir picks herself up, and turns away from the crowd. She kneels, as if she were about to scoop up another imaginar figure, but this time... All she can hold is herself, hugging herself and bowing her head almost to the floor. She stays this way for several long seconds, before he suffocating sadness becomes too much... And like a fleeting thoughts, she teleports off the stage. Tide could see her reappear a short distance away from him. She wouldn't meet his eyes, but he could swear he saw... Tears? She wipes them away before he can say anything, then stalks towards the exit, her composure slipping on like a funeral shroud.

After the contest is over, it's little surprise that Tide and his gardevoir won the contest. Dexter, the head judge, Jordan and even Keira all approach him to give their personal thanks for the performance. All Tide can do is blush and deflect their praise onto gardevoir. It was her performance, after all. This seemed to surprise them, and they asked what had happened to her. Tide... Chose to omit the details. He found her in an alley in Castelia City. That's all he was comfortable sharing.

After the contest, Tide is beat. Who knew a performance could take so much out of you! As a treat, he takes his pokemon to get some ice cream.
Okay, I had to look up Jubelife City because I completely forgot it even existed. Seeing as it has a Contest Hall, however... That's probably the first place Tide is going to stop. Do any of the other characters here enjoy beauty contests? Liam certainly seems the type
I didn's ask who is next, I asked what is next. Usually the GM post progresses the narrative, but I have no idea what is expected of me at this point. Tbh, I was winging it from my first post.
Um, so what happens next?

While she was happy to hear Hannie hadn't returned to battle, she was less comfortable with the atmosphere brewing in this room. It feels like she's within the eye of a cataclysmic storm, and instead of galeforce winds, it's the literal Devil, Superman, and moral ambiguity.

And some royal kid that could apparently ctrl+alt+delete himself at will, before ctrl+z'ing himself back. She doesn't even know what to think of that, so she simply won't. Noble Arms never made any sense anyways.

Ignoring Myron and his flattery, she rises from her seat and plants her hands on the table.

"Um, excuse me!" She says, raising her voice and then immidiately regretting it.

Oh my God Katie what are you doing?

She's not sure she wants the Devil's gaze to fall on her again. She's not sure she wants Captain America's gaze falling on her. She wouldn't mind the blue-haired girl noticing her, though–

Hold onto that. This is for her

No it's not!

YES IT IS! SHUT UP INNER VOICE!

"Um."

You have the floor, Katie. Use it! USE IT!

"Uh..."

Her mind blanks. What was she going to say?

Oh, right!

She looks around the room, then she smiles, then she releases something that might have been a laugh, or might have been a dying wheeze.

"So uh, what do you like?"
Yes, excellent question. 10/10 team bonding question

Oh God I'm going to die here.

"I mean- um. So we're all here to become friends, right?" Well, 'friends.' "So maybe... We should share our interests? I really like chocolate. Godiva is pretty good. I've got some with me, if anyone wants some?"

”Like chocolate too!” Nil interjected loudly, raising both arms up to show just how much she also liked chocolate. Then falling silent again.

Kaitlyn reaches into one of the pouches on her belt and withdraws a handful of wrapped chocolates, offering them to anyone who's interested. Naturally, Nil is the first to receive one, nearly falling from her own chair to grab the chocolate.

"I uh– I also like music. It keeps me calm when I'm stressed, and it just sounds good. Especially pop. Do any of you like pop?"

Do any of you maniacs even listen to music?

Her eyes sweep the room, catching the eyes of everybody she could muster up the courage to meet. Regrettably, that included the devil, but she managed to avoid Myron and the Liberator. They settle, finally, on the blue-haired girl, and she offers a chocolate directly.

Please like chocolate. Every girl like chocolate! It's science.

"Princess? Um, do princesses eat-" Before she can finish what she was saying, her eyes widen, and she gasps.

Meds

Meds!

MEDS!

Kaitlyn collapses forward against the table, frantically sifting through the satchels on her belt until she flips open the correct one and withdraws a non-descript orange bottle. Her hands are shaking as she tries, fails, and tries again to open the lid, ultimately managing to fumble her way into a handful of small white pills. Grimacing, she throws one into her mouth and follows up with a swip from the canteen clipped to her belt. Her eyes pinch closed, and for several long seconds, she remains perfectly still. Then, breathing slowly, she eases herself back into her seat.

Her eyes are distant, and pained, as she gestures towards the chocolates scattered across the tabletop.

"C-condition..." She whispers.
Kaitlyn: Walks into room. Sees the literal Devil. Has a crisis of faith.
Sees a cute girl. Immidiately girlfails.
Sees Nil.
"You're alive!"

Really getting the hole in one here, lol
Kaitlyn's reintroduction to the military was a hurricane of activity; no sooner had she returned to duty was she reallocated to Task Force Obsidian–

They're still alive!

–and shipped to... The Phillipenes? She tries to remember if she had ever heard anything about the Phillipenes, other than that they're apparently a bunch of islands.

Kind of like Hawaii.

Of course you're already thinking about vacation. Barely landed your boots on the ground and you already want to slack off.

No, that's not true! I–

You want to be a hero. Where were you these last 3 months again?

She doesn't have time for this. She can't be arguing with herself like this. Not again.

Not again ~

The mocking tone of her own inner voice is not the least bit comforting. Why is she so schizophrenic? Maybe she should see a doctor. Or a therapist. Another therapist. A therapist who understands what it means to watch a hundred people be swallowed into the sand and filled with glass while you just watched. A therapist who understands the terror of watching a magical shield break, of somebody having a hole seared through their chest by a death ray as a second sun rises over the battlefield like God's personal death sentence.

"Are you alright?" Somebody asks beside her. She snaps back to attention.

Right. The new mission. Or, well, 'mission.' She was kind of correct. She did return from 'vacation' just to be sent on another. Of a sort. A team bonding exercise. It'll... It... It will be good to see some familiar faces after so long away. Some familiar faces, anyways. Whatever happened to Myron? The twins? They didn't bring Hannie back in her absence, did they?

She thinks of Noel. How unsympathetic he was.

She swallows, then fishes out a piece of chocolate to occupy her mind. Belatedly, she remembers she was asked a question and responds with something she forgets immidiately. It seems to have assuaged them for now.

Mexican Restaurant, Municipality of Lubao, Pampanga Province, Philippines - 1/1/2023.

When she arrives at the... Returaunt... –actually, why a restaurant again? Why not a mess hall? A secure conference room with room service? Why a Tex-Mex in the middle of what looked like the Third Fucking Impact?

Not the time, Katie. This is a team bonding exercise. Get in there and socialize. You need it.

You really need it.

She really needs this.

She really needs this...

She really needs...

...

She needs a Bible.

God have mercy, is that a devil? She'd been thinking of Angels jokingly because Evangelion, but– those are curved horns. Jesus Christ, it smells like sulfur and brimstone in here!

Unironically– what the hell?

She's so busy staring at the honest to God devil that she barely notices the celebratory standing amongst them. In hindsight, she's surprised she didn't notice the red-white-and-blue of her home country the moment she walked through the door. He was like a walking American flag.

For some reason, being in the same room as him made her a little uncomfortable, and she frowned.

Cautiously, she picks her away across the restaurant, trying to absorb as many details as possible before she reaches her destination.

There appeared to be living death metal cover sitting next to... Was that... Her name was Callie, right? She was important, she remembered that.

And there's a cute girl, too–

!

Nope

Nope

No

Bad Katie.

You can't...

Well...

Quingshe was...

Quingshe was nice.

Nice,
her subconscious sarkastically parrots back to her. She can't help but recall the snake woman's intimidating appearance. And other qualities.

Other qualities...

Fuck.

Suppressing a blush, she beelines for a space right next to the blue-haired lady and Callie, smiling awkwardly and making a failed attempt to introduce herself as she sits down.

"Um. H– hi. I uh... I'm Kaitlyn. Um. Private Price. Kaitlyn Price, I mean!"

Very smooth.

She kinda wishes she was back on Lingayen Beach.

She looks at the girl a moment longer, then turns her attention to the rest of the crowd, avoiding Everett's eyes. To her chagrin, her eyes land on the devil instead. She stares, transfixed by those unnatural golden eyes. Of course she has the evil-type pupils. Is nobody here bothered by this? Should she find the nearest church and grab a cross?

Um. God bless me. Please.

Good enough.

Wait, is that–?

"Nil! You're alive!"

Of course she's alive, stupid.

She grimaces and mentally kicks herself.

Nil was an Arms Master. But then... Well, that doesn't mean much here, does it?

"You haven't seen... Hannie around... Have you?" She really hopes not, but she has to confirm. If she recalls correctly, Nil was pretty honest and straightforward.
Alright, I've caught up with some of what happened in the first thread. So, she was at least aware of Princess Fuyuko, traumatized by the death of Ari right as Huo Ren was preparing to kill them all, was acquainted with Noel (obviously), distantly knew of Callie but never directly interacted, worked with Iker Orozco once (right before I left), does not at all trust Myron and his freakish ability, was close with Quinshe, closer with Hannie, and she's rather ambivalent towards Nil, but she liked the kid enough to pair Hannie with them like they were at the playground.

Kaitlyn witnessed the massacre on Lingayen Beach, chilled a little in the auditorium, could not believe what the heck was happening when Myron was introduced as a terrorist and murderer who apparently changed sides, and then she was placed in charge of Team B and coordinated with the staff in the Stalwart to keep the Supply safe while someone apparently flew an NA sloop-o-war somewhere nearby. Aaaand that's about me caught up, I think.
Alright. So Kaitlyn and the team will be arriving at some destination ahead of Liberator?

EDIT: Would I be present at this resturant, to meet the Liberator? Or arriving at the last possible second? And what details, exactly, is everybdoy provided about him?
