Current you know, my SO never forces me to say a thing that's on my mind and doesn't mind if I don't always explain myself which makes it way easier to actually tell them stuff. boundaries good.

as much as I'd love to pre-plan RPs, I've also noticed that's the fast track to killing them. A little planning and a rough gist is fine, but anything beyond that and people don't wanna write no more.

TURN 1

@KOgaming You are REALLY inspired by GX, huh?
There's like four of them, of which only Blasting fuse is in any way useful for online play, since online all your cards always go into the field in an automatic way.

I'd really like it if the mechanic came back in something like a silly Cardian or Destiny board deck, where arranging cards in the right way on your side of the field netted you better effects.

Pretty sure you can toggle to choose your zones.
While Konami did try to make zones a thing, there really isn't any rule that says you can't freely move around where your monsters are.

Actually, yes there are. There's a reason the games don't allow you to do that, and there's stuff like Senet Switch to forcefully move your monster to another zone. Just 'cause players ignore it IRL doesn't mean it doesn't matter.
So I have a new found hatred for the sub reddit of yugioh. Not only did I get called a load of hot air over the fact that I play(ed) ghostricks but don't like troll decks like fucking Exodia, Greydle, and psyframes. But people are trying to make it seem like I'm sort of freaking elitist even after admitting I purposely was being over the top in my first post with my very profound hatred for the meta. Even people going so far as to mock me like I'm trying to act superior which I have in the same thread multiple times have said 'I don't care if you play meta you can play the game if you like just don't flipping play it against me because I hate broken boards, board nuking, and other things like that."

I got downvoted to hell and back for saying Arc-V's screenwriting went to shit and that episode 136 was bad. It's Reddit, you can't really escape that kind of BS.
@Prostagma

I should probably mention that room and board aren't really a problem and that all the players get a room, but if you want your character to sleep in a dumpster, I still find that pretty amusing. Er. Character accepted.

I can continue the "fun" or "unfun" argument in PMs, though, @Ammokkx, while I can accommodate some to you, I can't force everybody to change their decks just because one person doesn't like the others. And on top of that, it's not your argument to be had. I asked for 1Chark2's argument. I'd say he's left, but I can see him among the users viewing this page.

Well, I wasn't really arguing in his place either. I did say these were my concerns.

And I kind of wanted to drop the subject anyway since it was getting nowhere. Just adressed the other guy quickly because he completely got me wrong and I wanted to set the record straight. I realized halfway through the argument was pointless 'cause the others naturally wouldn't change their deck just 'cause one guy complains, that'd be silly.

So, no need to continue in PMs. I wasn't going to drop it for such a silly reason anyway.

I couldn't tell you why Charak's viewing the page, tho.

EDIT: Contrary to what you may expect, I do agree with Doc Doctor on the post right above.
Hey, just found this, but @Ammokkx do you really have any right to talk about "dumb fun decks" when your deck is generic rank 4 spam setup with zero thematic coherence? I mean, this is just me, but from where I'm standing it kinda looks like you came here under the impression that you could steamroll with your tcg skills and, now that you can't, you're getting frustrated and attempting to ruin the mood; but, then again, I've always thought Yugioh was less about actually winning card games and more of a contest to see who can be the most egotistical person in the room at any given time.

...Uh, dude? I run 3 Rank 4's and it's not even the main focus of my deck. I'm trying to get to a custom rank 9 I can't even summon without using rank-up. I didn't expect, nor want to win every duel. In fact, I'm known for being a massive jobber. I do, however, care for well choreographed duels which I can't see happening with decks the way they are now.
@Ammokkx

Well. I can't force others to use decks they don't want- trust me- I tried. I'd enforce a banlist or whatever, but I've already stated my reasoning as to why I won't.

That said, if I were playing a lower powered deck, I wouldn't call it unfun as much as I would call it a challenge, figuring outs in my dingy deck to their boss monsters. Like so. I don't know how into recording so sorry in advance for the awkward resolution.

...You won in a single turn without much counterplay. This wouldn't look nice when written out, it'd be a boring duel. Same deal with animating it, it'd be a boring duel.

People complain about Arc-V's and ZeXal's duels for a reason (though I don't agree with the latter).

Ah, whatever. I'm just complaining for the sake of complaining. Carry on.
So bad decks are fun?

Everyone's free to choose whatever cards they want and create any three custom cards. Nobody forced you to make your deck the way it is.

...Yes, bad decks are fun. Look at the anime and just try to make a functional deck out of the cards they use.

Even a well constructed deck can be fun if it allows for some back and forth. Most of these don't, though. Zombie Synchro and Skull servants seem like the only two that do.

Like, if I join a YGO RP, I don't join to play the actual game. I join to recreate the anime hype moments of dumping a big dumb monster and crashing it into your big dumb monster, or topdecking into some obscure 8-card combo you'd never pull off IRL.

If you want to play good, competetive decks go play YGOPro percy/YGOpro devpro or go to IRL locals.

EDIT: I'll clarify a bit more. What makes a deck fun to write out in an RP setting isn't the scale on how good it is, it's how hype it can write itself out. If your deck is some OTK deck that just wants to end it in one turn, that's kinda boring and stale. If it's a floodgate deck that locks you down, then it doesn't make for an interesting duel. If it's something that plays for too long that gets really, really boring to read.

You want something that gets to the point fast and sticks to its guns. The level 5 or higher deck was all about summoning big monsters quickly and replacing them with bigger monsters if they went down, never letting up on high ATK value. The Xyz deck is about being unpredictable and summoning really cool Xyz monsters using a random assortment of monsters, all the while backing it up with thematically fitting cards.

If I were to take something I haven't played, let's go with... Ah, what the hell, Dragon Rulers. There's two ways you could go about it: Rank 7 spam like we're back in the old format, or keeping 1-2 rulers on the field at the time, maybe go into an Xyz, but leaving room for your opponent to counterplay.

The former would be boring as the deck would crush everything, but the latter would be fun because big dumb dragons fighting other dumb monsters and then coming back to fight some more.
So what does a dumb fun deck look like?

...Have you even looked at my deck? I run a ton of gimmicky Xyz support which have better alternatives, random Xyz extra deck monsters with better alternatives open to me, a bricky as SHIT monster lineup that wouldn't work in any regular duel and I run six different ranks!

I could legit play 14 duels in a row without using the same cards twice and keep pulling out new ways to play and forcethe game state in different directions and give myself alternativewin conditions

I can't even summon my main boss monster unless I use TWO specific cards, both pretty bad, and I need a specific combo of ranks on the field in case of Xyz universe

Meanwhile, these guys can go play online and actually have not a single issue

EDIT: If you want another example, way back when there was another freeform YGO RP where I ran a deck that had no level 4 or lower monsters. It also didn't constrain itself to one archetype. The ace was Berserk Dragon, a notoriously bad card. The deck ran Anti-Magic Prism for crying out loud, that's how gimmicky and stupid fun it was.
Oooooookay. I don't really intend on bowing out of this RP myself, but I do have some concerns that Charak brought up.

Everyone's deck here is looking like a legit, constructed deck to play online with instead of dumb fun stuff to make for an entertaining show. Stuff like Nekroz is solitaire, there's two OTK decks, there's a Kaiju Kaiser deck which is the epitome of 'no fun allowed' and there's Zombie Synchro. Zombie Synchro is no Dark synchro, but can still vomit the extra deck.

...I'd kinda say EVERYONE is building their decks to win.

EDIT: Also, most people took the ideal 40-card deck with a ton of +0 draw and search, which you shouldn't really need in a freeform dueling system like this
