Current you know, my SO never forces me to say a thing that's on my mind and doesn't mind if I don't always explain myself which makes it way easier to actually tell them stuff. boundaries good.

as much as I'd love to pre-plan RPs, I've also noticed that's the fast track to killing them. A little planning and a rough gist is fine, but anything beyond that and people don't wanna write no more.

~Yukikaze~

Green flashed all around Yukikaze as she stood inside of her bridge, the holographic displays around her being used to both command the vessel and process any information coming through. The mental model's eyes were laser-focused on the details wheezing by her, analyzing every minute detail, even though the ocean was calm. Her ship slowly steered on the surface of the water, circling around near Shinano. Nothing showed up on Yukikaze's readings, but she wasn't reassured until she could return from patrol.

"...Nothing unusual in my area. Sammy B, do you read anything?" Yukikaze asked her fellow ship through communication, seeing as she hadn't heard anything from her yet. While waiting on a response, Yukikaze thought back on the reason this patrol was happening in the first place.

"Meeting with a human ship..." she mumbled to herself. Just the thought was enough to send shivers down her spine. While the shipgirl recognized the need to have positive relations with the humans, as well as recognizing that humans were the reason big sis Shinano has her stealth drive, it still wasn't comfortable for her to interact with them. She doesn't know why Shinano trusts them the way she does, but Yukikaze's own trust is placed firmly in the fleet carrier's judgement. As long as it's big sis Shinano, it must be okay... right?
Tree made the biggest mistake of his life approving me for this RP, btw.
Faceclaims? Real life? Anime? Digital? Hand drawn? None?

I'm really 50/50 on images. On one end they're a hella easy way to estimate someone's appearance, but on the other hand, if you don't draw them yourself you're often constrained by another person's ideas. If you can draw yourself, use them by all means, but if you can't, think about how 'worth it' it is. If you have a pretty creative and out-there idea for your character's appearance, written might be better. On the other hand, if you're going for something a lot more simple, an image could work.

I dislike the use of fan- or official art of already established characters from franchises, though. I can't disconnect that character from their story, and it always feels out of place. Others are free to do as they wish, but if I ever use an image, I'll make sure it's an 'original' image; i.e. a one-off or series of drawings without a story attached to them.

Real people is fucking creepy though. I don't see the appeal.

Color codes?

I only use color for dialogue when everyone else uses color for dialogue. Other than that, I think only the titles and subtitles in your CS should have color, as that's prolly the best way to organize and not make your CS look like rainbow vomit.

What's the 'right amount' of images?

Not often I see people use more than the 1 for their appearance. Don't really see the need for any more either, unless it's a fancy custom-made header, which is always nice to see. Definitely feel like putting in more than 3 is going a bit far and bloats the thing, though, but there's examples of it done well out there. I think.

Freeform or GM provided code?

That's up to the GM to decide. A GM should always provide a baseline, but if people want to go outside the norm, they should be allowed as long as it's readable imo. Not much of an opinion here.

Things that should be be included/excluded?

I once saw a person use the word biography as a synonym for appearance. That's some vomit-inducing stuff right there for me.

I think you can list most non-basic stuff in an 'Extra' or 'Other' section, and it shouldn't be a list of things imo. I don't really care what your character's favorite food is, unless we're playing like a restaurant RP or smth. It's mostly harmless, so as long as it doesn't feel like you're cluttering things, I'm aight with anything.

Essentials are what Amalthea mentioned pree much, tho. Appearance, History and Personality are the core, but a name would be good too -w-. I'm also a fan of listing ages, but this is a preference thing. It gets you some good insight. Other than all that though, I don't really see what else there's really worth writing about.

What is your character creation process? Is character creation just all together overrated?

Character creation being overrated? If you're roleplaying you better present the role you're playing, lol. I think CSes are pretty essential, not only for presenting said role, but also to gauge how good of a writer someone is from a cursory glance.

My personal way is just thinking on every detail of my character beforehand, then jotting it all down in one go. I probably should revise my stuff more, but I'm a pree lazy individual.
Taka Tsuin

Taka stood off to the side of the seats, refusing to take a seat right now. His clutched fist and slow scanning of the area around him betrayed the fact he was too on edge to relax like that for the moment. He didn't like the atmosphere of this place. Despite some people's energy, a sinister shadow of doubt crept up in his chest. Nothing about this was natural, and people acting like it was were even worse.

"Hey, so is anyone going to explain what the fuck is-?" the boy angrily growled towards the crowd, but was distracted by the monochromatic bear popping up on stage.

“Ah, excellent, everyone’s here! You know, I really want to thank you all for being so nice and showing up! It feels good to be respected!” it spoke.

"Screw respect! We want to know what the hell's going on!" Taka yelled at the construct, but was promptly ignored as it went on its little spiel. As soon as he realised he was being ignored, a mutter of 'You son of a...!' was ushered under his breath. Taka listened despite his agitation, as his best shot for getting answers was the one who called them together. At least, he listened until-

“All you have to do is kill somebody!”

-his blood went cold. Taka flinched and froze up, eyes wide from the ludicrous statement ushered out by the robot-stuffed animal or whatever it was. He turned his head off to the side, looking over each person's face and features individually.

(Kill...? I'll... need to kill one of these people?)

...or they could kill him. The breezy air around Taka turned to a winter's blizzard as the thought crossed his mind. He couldn't read the expression on most of their faces but... the idea had to have come to everyone's mind here. The paranoia-fueled, dreadful thought that one of these people would murder anyone else for a chance to escape. Taka didn't know any of these people, what they were like. Certainly the cyclops from earlier seemed like a dangerous individual, and even if she turned out not to be, he had no idea what any of the others were like.

He was snapped back to reality when the excitable one from earlier spoke up. He noticed a device in his hands that wasn't there before, and mindlessly activated it. Greeting him was a detailed profile of himself... and herself. In a trance he tapped on the next tab, seeing everyone else having just as extensive of a biography- every single one of them Super High-School-Level students like himself.

"What the hell..." Taka mumbled in disbelief, dropping the thing as it harmlessly bounced onto the floor. He took a step back and looked up towards the bear again, fearful and defiant.

"N-No fucking way in hell I'm listening to you! No way any of us should listen! Who the hell do you think you are, trying to lord over us like that?!"

@Ammokkx

The emergence of the Fleet of Fog in 1939 is still part of the history. 1949 is the year that the last major battle between humans and the Fleet of Fog occured, which is why it is mentioned in Shinano's Bio, resulting in an absolute defeat for humanity.

There are certain ships, such as the Yamato, that I am reserving for the purposes of the plot. If you really want the Yukikaze, I can make it work without much difficulty.

Oh neat, I'm grabbing the Yukikaze then.

Still though, from what I've been reading, the ships only got sighted starting 2012 and got in full force 2038. Even if we take the start of the re-activation, that was in 1945, and halted because the Admiral code wasn't around.

I'm going off the assumption the Fleet of Fog didn't attack humans until 2039 here, as stated in the OP. 1949 seems like a really weird date in that respect. I'd assume it was 2049, as that's a solid chunk of time after the re-activation of the Fleet of Fog, rather than nearly a century prior.

If you want speed (since Yukikaze was known for being fast), maybe check out the Le Fantasque class.

honestly

I could care less about what the ships actually do

I'm just looking for a good name .w.
@Ammokkx I don't know if Ithra wants to follow all the lore since this is an alternate universe, but I thought to toss this your way.

Well. Rip. Shoulda looked that up.

Guess I'm going to look for another ship now.
