If you're not trying to romance the Pokemon, what's the fucking point?

Can't help but read 'woah' as a regular 'wuh', but 'whoa' as a deep, masculine 'HOO-AH!'

That's patently untrue. I planted some potassium the other day, and no matter how much I watered it, all I got was explosions.

According to the IRC, I'm a low-grade troll. They're probably not wrong.

It depends strongly on the scenario. Often monsters are fauna with a supernatural element, or otherwise not very well-known or widespread. Even in historical fiction settings, say Moby Dick, something like an albino whale might be considered a monster simply because it's a dangerous animal that's also unique in some way.

The culture of the setting plays into this as well. Animals to whom superstition has been attached will be considered monsters no matter how 'mundane' they are, such as, say, the Aye-aye lemur in Madagascar. It's a funny-lookin' little goblin, but despite posing no threat to anyone, it's frequently killed when spotted because it's considered a harbinger of evil.

I think generally if the distinction is actually just between animals that exist in our world and animals that don't, that'll be either a deliberate move by the author to establish the nature of the 'monster', an accident where the author didn't consider the perspective of the setting's native characters, or, most interestingly, an implication that something has changed to introduce the 'monster'- Something about these non-Earth animals is out of place in the setting.
  • Teknall is about two months (irl time) overdue for a personal and serious chat with Jvan, and the list of things to talk about is growing bigger every Turn. @Antarctic Termite

I have the good luck to be very available until Monday, as it happens! Jvan is still a little out of commission, but Lawyer Avatar Phi is around to help her out with the talking.

I think Toun might need to sit in on this meeting as well.

Visits to J-girl's hospital bed are to take place one at a time and according to Nurse Phi's schedule, thank you.

jk jk the more the merrier.
...At some point, are we going to have a Council of Nicea situation pop up? Because that would be interesting to say the least. Even more so when you consider that we have numerous gods with their own followings who could actually be in attendance themselves.

I'm not sure if we have enough prominent religions, and religions that are separate enough from the deity they worship for that deity not to provide an answer through prophets, for mortals to host a debate on the nature of the gods. So far I think what religions we have are-

-Chippers, Hain followers of Teknall, who believe (correctly) that he wants them to learn, travel, and teach others

-The Grand Parade, a Shalanoir-based travelling religious order dedicated to promoting culture and technology under Ilunabar and the Divas

-Sin cults in Xerxes, dedicated to hedonism, and general worship of Enas Amartia as a god-emperor in that area

-Zephyrionic monotheism in Vetros, where the nature of djinni is fairly well understood and the belief in other deities is heretical (but practiced anyway on the low-key) (Probably the best candidate for a Nicene debate now I think about it)

-Djinni cults, in which powerful local djinni are prayed to for good harvests and safe weather and such, probably worldwide

-Vestecian hordes seem to consider themselves personally tasked with spreading chaos in Vestec's name

-There's some residual worship of Elysium, the heir of Logos, among humans (who came from Arcon); She's later also called Lysiuh, and the Realta are considered her purifying light in Xerxes and beyond

-Urtelem pray to their patrons Callused Hands (Teknall, their creator) and Spiral Palms (Jvan, who stimulated their cultural growth)

-Hain know of Slough as the Life Deer, but I don't think they pray to her so much as just acknowledge her role in the cycle of life

-Presumable Toun-worship thanks to his contributions to Rovaick civilisation. Sularn's Vow might count as a religion, though it's more of a practical set of ideals taken by Rovaick to protect themselves from White Giants.

-Mesathalassan shamanism, an animist tradition of celibacy held mostly by hunters, I think, borrowing aspects of Djinni and Life Deer worship as well as Chipper dedication to helping others

-Lifprasil is considered a deity in Alefpria, though this is more just a plain fact, since he's mostly a very practical governor

It's worth noting that while Sculptors are also called the 'Jvanic Cult', they're not a religious order, just a species that's very closely tied to a deity. Sculptors are probably the least likely creatures to worship Jvan, as they know her personally, and ultimately know the volatile, human mundanity of her personality.
@Bright_Ops

Gotcha covered, fam.

Basically, Reathos's people were unable to survive an invasion from one of Vestec's hordes. Reathos himself lashed out at Vestec, unwisely choosing to do so in Vestec's own Realm of Madness, a pocket dimension he's trapped Julkolfyr in, fused with Mammon's essence as he died, and filled with demons. (Despite all this, he's a generous kind of guy and the dimension is relatively safe for anyone who isn't too scared of the locals.)

In any case, fighting on home ground gave Vestec a potent advantage, and when Reathos refused to back off, he was killed. Ripen peaches.

ed: In other news, my activity lapse should end sometime on Tuesday. Tauga has some shit to do.

As does Violet, Chiral Phi, Old Walker, Jvan, Diaphane Whisper, and presumably a metric shitfuck of other side characters I don't keep track of.
So it's difficult to say that Trump has a mandate or is part of some uprising, when it's more due to the failure of Hillary Clinton. Just like if she won, it would be more of a rejection of trump than an acceptance of her.

probably this entire electoral cycle in a nutshell tbh
Can I change constitutional law and turn America's electoral system into a single nation-wide preferential ballot?
Sweet fuck the discourse in this thread. So funky. So fresh.

Good hecking read, lads. Carry on when the inauguration happens.
Something that flops and rolls and makes zero sense and is fluffy and inviting but should be feared.

Yes, I realize this made no sense.
