It's happening again. I have been visited by a soviet mad scientist, a king, a penguin prince of darkness, a house plant god thing, a mystical ancient member, a tired reaper (thank god) + a greeting.

@ArenaSnow You're the one who isn't sure, what makes you think you're qualified to analyze whether or not I get the role? As well, what makes you think I haven't discussed this with Hank in the past in more depth? This was clearly just a reminder and frankly he's the only one I have to prove myself to. Certainly not you, who doesn't even use the Discord at all. I wouldn't be beholden to you even if I was given the chat moderator position. You're trying to vote in another country's election right now, m8.

Any moderation role on the site is representative of the guild, even if it's on discord. Hank can do whatever he wants, pretty much, as a co-admin. I'm no more "qualified" to "analyze" your role than you are "qualified" to nominate yourself when that's clearly not even how the guild's promotion system has ever worked.

At the end of the day, my point is simple. Nominating yourself makes you look like an ass. You've only proven the point.

Edit: And if it's clearly "just a reminder", and not open to user input, why did you even post it here instead of sending a PM to Hank on Discord? Hell, why not just post it in the help channel of discord if you're that confident? Don't post about your little regional election on the other end of the country if you don't want comments on it, eh?
@ArenaSnow You don't have to be sure. I have a good feeling you aren't sure of many things, so your opinion on things you aren't sure about seems kinda irrelevant to me and the discussion at large.

In other words, you have no case against why nominating yourself seems pretentious.

Furthermore, you solidify why someone would probably not want to contact you if you were in any moderation position, since your apparent way to carry an argument about becoming a form of staff member is to take the other person and dismiss them because they "aren't sure of many things". That sounds like a professional way for a moderator to conduct themselves.

You've nominated yourself. I nominate against you, as you don't strike me as being any better than any other less desirable participant of the channel spouting out a mix of half-truths (though I don't even see the truthful half in this conversation) and attempts to dismiss the other person with misleading statements or saying they "aren't sure of many things".
@ArenaSnow Spend some time in the politics channel on the official Discord and see why most people wouldn't wanna handle that.

I did. Part of why that was one of the last channels I muted before quitting the discord entirely.

If the idea behind your post was that "nobody else wants to do it, so I'm better than nothing" then I'm not sure that the concept of scraping off the bottom of the volunteer barrel for a cesspool (that you participate in) is much better than no specific moderation at all, or reports of things that go directly against site rules that can be directed towards the regular mods.
Lets write- blaaaaargno.
Ah, and a note on something in this thread.

@Hank I nominate myself to be a chat moderator.

It's never a good sign when you have people nominating themselves to become staff of some degree or another, as I've rarely ever seen good things come of people that nominate themselves. Very few places would even take it seriously without a proper application process behind it.

Saying you nominate yourself seems awfully pretentious to me.
Every. Single. Nations. RP. Is. Advanced.

I like nations rp, atleast I think I do because I've literally never been able to join one because they're ALL ADVANCED, I know you guys like advanced rps, but would it kill you just to mix it up a little?, if variety is the spice of life, this is the exact opposite. I will never be able to join one unless I somehow become one of the worlds best writers.

Nation RPs by their very nature tend to take a more advanced avenue. Lower levels are accustomed to individual characters, and not making the split between individuals and many characters. An NRP, at least, as I approach it, involves taking in the perspectives of the people at large, as well as multiple people to present the events of a day to day country. Two paragraphs is fine when you run a single character. An NRP involves considerably more than that.

That said, I've participated in several of the casual NRPs that did pop up over time, and they failed even faster than the advanced ones.
Fundamentally, as someone who these days looks more towards the PM system than any forum interaction - yes, some adjustments would be nice. However, I don't think the core should shift very much. I do agree with the change in language for forum names; it seems more semantically correct to me, and really, all that would functionally change would be the name and the description. Not necessarily the threads that go into the sections. Heck, you could keep the old tags.

Moderation, that said, I do not consider an issue. As a site user who's talked with a small core of other site users, the "average experience" as I've seen it is simply that the mods are irrelevant. Yes. Irrelevant until called upon. GMs handle issues for themselves. What problems do pop up I've had settled quickly by former and current mods. I don't see anything wrong with the system, so I can't agree that there's some dramatic change needed.

Moderators appear uncommitted and seem 'okay' with how things are now even if the community disagrees and has stated they are not satisfied.

Who is "the community"? Who stands for them? Who has properly collected the views of what is referenced as the "community" in any of the posts of this nature? I consider myself a member and wasn't asked about it to form that base.

I think the discord is poorly set out and doesn't have a very good cluster of folks in a big chunk of its community, so I don't really care what goes on there. I won't comment on suggestions for it. Other issues seem frivolous and dependent on the community at large having an opinion on the matter.

Let's try not to type cast or stereotype people yeah? I assume you were being funny but if you'd said something like that to me i would have got on my nerves. For all you know Kitten plays warhammer 40k games and slaughters xenos scum for the glory of the emperor. And For all you know my favorite kind of anime is harem romance (it is). So be careful what conclusions you jump to from a profile. We want to make sure we are not alienating anyone even if we are joking. We cool? Everyone cool? Sorry for the double post bad form shame on the co-gm for not setting a better example XD

No worries~! Totally understandable.

As for my second character, I was planning on making a warlock! I was just going to make a college-student who is interning at a hospital for medical practice. Although he is moving along at a pretty good pace in medical school, he decides to use 'green' witch magic to make it seem like his patients are recovering very fast, or almost instantaneously, through hard workaka green magic to hopefully graduate quicker and with high grades.

@ArenaSnow I was hoping to maybe have our characters know each other. Maybe my character is a recent addition to your coven?~

QUESTION: Also, do you guys use a specific wiki for how magic works? I've been reading up on healing magic and a lot of it uses different ingredients in order to perform the spells. Or would it be possible to perform specific magics without any reagents?

Sure, you can pop into my coven. As for magic, the system is not too established, so there's a degree of creative leeway as noted in Themer's post.

Out of curiosity, do you have experience with other sites? Are they less bad in terms of apathy? I've never played other than on here, but I get the feeling it's nowhere near as bad as some of the other sites.

Honestly? I don't think this site is special, no. Roleplayersguild never advanced beyond the first 3 posts for the roleplays I did manage to start up there. Game forum roleplays have proven notoriously unreliable. Small forums have a tendency to shut down. Cortex Roleplay, a platform I diddled with for a while, had the same issue. Discord I don't roleplay on for other reasons, but sure, apathy is rampant there.

Roleplayerguild these days is the primary platform I use for roleplay related things given the issues on other sites, but it still has issues that I don't escape. It may well just be an issue with roleplaying as a whole - a whim that people don't really take seriously, so they don't really care when they drop other people anyways. I focused on this site because I don't even bother with any other site at this point.

So I know that I got some explaining to do. I will get back to everyone in a timely manner.
