Put 20 cannons loaded up with grapeshot in a row, put 20 of them in a row, fire into the long blocks of infantry used during this period and compare the casualty rating. It's simply not as effective.

I don't think a piece of artillery built in the medieval era (I assume it's medieval, since I can only find it on the total war wikia) is too much more accurate than a wide cone of anti-infantry projectiles.
