Here is an early character sheet for those who want to get started on it:
Appearance: (Picture Preferred) Age: (15-25, PM me for exceptions) History: (Can be as vague or detailed as you please) Extra: (Anything else you want to include) Primary Weapon: (From the weapons listed) Secondary Weapon: Ranged Weapon:
The year is 1574 of the Sengoku Jidai, the Age of Warring States, and blood drenches the island nation of Japan. It was only a year ago the that the Ashikaga Shogunate was destroyed by Oda Nobunaga. Conflict continues to escalate as Oda Nobunaga turns his ambitions towards the Takeda clan and with it, the emergence of more and more yokai. These demons have begun to manifest more and more as hardship befalls the country. It has come to the point that the Onmoyo mages and normal samurai can no longer contain or properly deal with these supernatural beings. That is why there is a new force coming out of this chaos to combat this dark threat.
A new faction has arisen to quell the yokai that now threaten the people, they call themselves the Tengoku no Ken or Blade of Heaven. Their leader, Ikejiri Atsukazu, was once a renowned samurai whose lord perished several years ago to a monstrous yokai. His only goal is the elimination of hostile spirits from the mortal realm and protecting the lives of those who cannot fight them. The power to fight the yokai comes from a mysterious resource known only as Amrita, which when absorbed by one's soul can improve their abilities greatly. It is also necessary for each member of the Tengoku no Ken to possess their own guardian spirit, a helpful being that assists with combat. While Oda Nobunaga wages a terrible war across Japan, It is Ikejiri Atsukazu and his demon hunters that will save it from being overrun by monsters.
============================================================================================================= This role-play is based off the video-game Nioh that takes place in Japan during the one of the bloodiest internal conflicts in Japanese history. Players will take the role of an aspiring demon hunter wishing to join the Tenjoku no Ken and defend the realm from yokai that have risen in the wake of the many conflicts. I will try to stay generally close to the historical events of the time period but I will probably make a few mistakes.
Basically, this is a roleplay about being a demon slayer in medieval Japan with some magical shenanigans. This is just an interest check, so I will add more once I see people would actually like to be a part of this.
Key Game Mechanics -Ki: This is the energy that resides within your body. It will operate as both your stamina and life for the purposes of this RP. Your body will be able to withstand attacks as though they are blunt strikes as long as your Ki is strong. If you Ki should deplete, you will be both exhausted and vulnerable to fatal wounds.
-Guardian Spirits: Each player will have their own Guardian spirit that will assist them in combat. They can be called forth using special talismans to assist directly in combat. While possesed by one of these guardian spirits, they will provide bonuses to the individual such as a sixth sense or fire resistance. If the warrior inhabited by a guardian spirit builds up enough energy during combat, they will be infuse their bodies and weapon with the power of that particular spirit making them near-impervious to damage and granting them an increased range of movement and attack.
-Amrita This magical resource can be used to directly increased one's ability and it is gain by defeating opponents, both human and demon. The stronger the opponent, the greater the yield of Amrita will be. It can also be found in a crystallized version where spirits roam freely or where a great tragedy has taken place.
-Ninjutsu and Onmoyo Magic Besides training with their weapons of choice, Players will have the option to train in the ways of the ninja and Onmoyo mage. With Ninjutsu, Players will be able to create and conjure all kind of tools and tricks to outsmart their opponents and give themselves an edge. With Onmoyo Magic, Players will be able to infuse their weapons with special qualities and cast various offensive and defensive spells.
Primary Weapons & Secondary Weapons: Players will choose two weapons to focus on at the beginning of their training as a demon hunter. It will be possible to learn other weapon styles as you gain experience and continue your training. To keep track of your experience with a particular weapon, every player will have a special stat named '_________ Mastery' to showcase how proficient you are with using it. These are the current types of weapons you can start with: -Katana --A very balanced weapon in terms of offense and defense and the sign of most samurai's power. Its versatile nature means it is well suited for almost any kind of engagement you might find yourself in. -Axe/Hammer --These two weapons are offense-oriented and swing with a large amount of power and force. Their weight alone makes them good for crushing through opponent's defenses but their unwieldy nature can leave the user open to counter-attacks. -Spear --This weapon has the greatest defensive capabilities due to its stable construction and long-range. Warriors who choose this weapon will find difficulty fighting in tight quarters. It is advised that the user have a shorter-range weapon or learn some variant of martial arts. -Dual Swords --The blades are shorter than the katana's but they make up for it in pure speed and defense. While the damage is not as substantial as other weapons, they do not wear down the user as much allowing for rapid, consecutive attacks. -Kusarigame --A tricky weapon to use, it offers the greatest range of all the weapons available. It reach farther than a spear but such an attack will often leave the user wide open. Deadly at all ranges, the complex move-set involved with the weapon can confuse many foes making it a prime choice for ninja -Odachi --A larger variant of the katana focusing more on offense, its wide arc can fell many foes at once. The weight and length of the blade however mean it is slower to use. -Tonfa --These weapons are very effective at crushing through an opponent's guard and offer a strong defense. Their short-range means that the user will have to get very close to their target. Ranged Weapons -Bow --A bow is a fast-firing and accurate weapon in the right hand and can puncture through light and medium armor. -Rifle/Musket --This foreign fire-arm boasts deadly power and is able to pierce through all types of armor. It's major draw-back is the long-time to reload and fire. -Hand Cannon --This portable cannon offers the greatest firepower out of all the ranged weapons. It is very heavy, as is the ammunition, and is generally reserved for massive battles or taking down very large yokai.
The intensity in Haley's eyes did not diminish as she awaited an answer from the Captain, Anderson felt that she needed to be in this upcoming fight. It was true that she had spoken out of line but it did not make sense to her to take out two operational TSFs for the sake of one, dead man. She sat there defiantly with her hands tightly gripped around the controls, isolated beads of sweat dripping down the edges of her face.
"I happen to be well aware that 'we can't just leave when there is a Fort-class approaching,' but you--and Yu--will be."
Her brows furrowed together as the corners of her lips tiled downwards, the official tone infuriated her more for some reason. Haley was the most distinguished pilot of her class and she would damned if she would sit on the side-lines for this operation. The young pilot however was not ready for Mina to bring up her brother in all of this.
"However, I do not need a child, especially a hotheaded one, on the battlefield with a Fort-Class. You'll be dead before any of us can save you. Tell me, do you wish to die just as your brother did?"
Haley's face was replaced with complete and utter shock at the ice-cold remark that was thrown at her. It wasn't long before that shock turned into absolute resentment and anger as she clenched her teeth with a tight grimace, hands with a death-like grip on her controls. If Captain Mina had said such a thing to her on the ship, she would not have hesitated to punch her square in the face right there "Understood." She spoke harshly, clearly keeping in far more obscene responses. Haley even knew that this was not the place for struggle with command. She hated the order and now really disliked her captain, but the order was final. Mina's remark was not something that she would soon forget.
With bitter hesitation, she lifted the remains of Kasteler in the unarmed left hand of her TSF. The only bright side was now that the laser-class had been mostly dealt with, the flight back home would be rather non-eventful. Her comms opened up to the other pilot "Let's get going Yu." She spoke with bitterness still in her voice. The booster jets powered up as she pressed forward, back to the transport ship with a new darkness in her heart. Haley's desire to prove herself on the battlefield only grew, so much that she failed to notice how her hands shook despite her tight grip. Tanks rolled onto the beaches that only moments ago were crawling with Beta and as she passed them, she could have sworn one of the tank-commanders had waved at her. Before long, She was flying low along the water-line even though the beams of light from the laser-class had been dealt with. All around her were wrecks of TSFs and ships that did not make it through the initial assault, thought it did not hit her that one of those could have been her. Carefully she navigated back to the grey wovlves' designated ship and set her TSF down on the same platform she had taken off of. It did come as a relief that the ship was still mostly intact and with it, their CO Fabel.
Rath had focused himself on maintaining the perimeter but upon hearing the captain's remark, his attention was now grabbed. Captain Mina had certainly not held anything back in her address to Haley, the method was brutal but it seemed to prove effective in getting the rambunctious wolf to heel. There was nothing wrong with fighting with passion he believed but it was important not to let it cloud your judgement. Haley was still green and the mind-set she was in now would put her and the battalion at risk against a perilous foe like a fort-class. As he watched her and Yu fly away through his view-screen, he found himself in complete agreement with Mina's orders to send them back.
His focused back on the task at hand as he flew in formation alongside Mina, his Su-27SM's engines roaring with life as they moved closer to their target destination. Despite the lack of laser-class now, Rath was still un-easy flying at this speed and altitude knowing that the BETA really liked their surprises. Once they arrived, the dire situation of the 154th became very clear to the polish pilot as two TSFs went down in twisted balls of metal. A confident smile overtook him as they made their approach, the captain's words ringing in his ears beautifully as he stared down the monstrous creature. This? This was nothing compared to the laser-fort class that took his family away.
"Roger!" He firmly stated at her orders and took his position in the front of the formation along with the other heavy hitters, playing chicken with a BETA that could end your life with one solid hit. The moment he heard Mina's order he pushed his TSF out of the whip's way just enough and used his well-trained reaction speed to force his blade motor into the tenacle as he boosted forward, slicing upwards. He quickly abandoned the action by boosting forward underneath the Fort-class as it reacted to his strike, just in time to see the two officers pull off an incredible manuever using the BETA's own legs. It was something magnificent to behold at the very least.
There was not much time to admire it as he engaged the creature as he pushed the limits of his machine. Rath flew directly underneath the underside of the Fort-class, twisting his TSF until it was upside-down and shoved his blade motor into the flesh as his jet boosters propelled him forward. While his blade tore into the body, he fired the heavier 120mm rounds into the surface and finally disengaged as the ammunition for the 120mm was expended. The Su-27SM fell towards the ground as Rath corrected the orientation of the machine to be level with the ground once more "Ha! We sting like wasp and strike like dragonfly!" He exclaimed cheerfully at the their assault falling victim to his native accent for the moment
With every fight, Reylan's leadership and strategic choices improved to the point where he was comfortable in the position he had been given. A plan didn't need to be elaborate every time, just organized enough that people were where they were most needed. He had taken the time to observe the other's performed spells and actions so that he can be more specific when needed. Every time he watched the HP of one of his allies drop so too did his heart, taking it as a clear indication that he needed to improve as their leader. Death was not something he wished to face, whether his or another's. That was why it was a relief that everyone had made it to the boss fight, although a little worse for wear.
Their numbers had increased once more with the addition of Solace, another swordsman to bolster their front-line ranks. Once again, the friendly archer had welcomed the new addition with open arms into their party after exchanging quick introductions. The next area would no doubt be where the boss would appear, a challenge tougher than everything before "Listen everyone, I know everyone is a little beat-up but we're here. There's only one more obstacle standing in our way from clearing a dungeon. Together we have overcame every obstacle thrown at us so far. We are going to throw everything we have into this fight and we are all going to come out victorious. Now, how about we go kick some ass?" He faced the party as he said this, ending with a large grin plastered on his face. "Heal up and recharge your mana if you can." There might not be a chance to do so later. Fear of death didn't stop people from living in the real world, so why should it be different in the virtual one?
Reylan made sure to drink the blue potion in inventory before entering the area, wanting to cap off his Mana before such a dangerous fight. He also approached Karma to let him know that his primary role in the boss fight will be heal the others and cast de-buffs on the boss. The entire atmosphere changed the moment they entered the normally majestic-looking field. Somehow their more humanoid figure made them all the more terrifying to the guild-master, normally human-shaped bosses were the hardest. Before he could even utter a command, the one named Fenrir's Herald utter the most ear-piercing and bone-chilling sound he had ever heard. A weakness befell him as he saw his life bar decrease, the color shifting to a dull yellow. The boss had just done a fourth of his health and the battle hadn't even started...
He didn't waste time thinking about the unfairness of such an ability, everyone needed to jump in to action "Dirk and Aster, You two put pressure on the boss. Defend each other and keep his attention for as long as you can! Karma, your healing priority should be on them." The best move would be to eliminate the supporting monsters on his sides. Once they were killed, they could focus everything on taking down the boss "Polak and Dub, you and your summons take the Lycan on the left; designated as Lycan 1. Chari, keep out of striking distance and deal as much damage as you can with them!" The faster they went down the better "Solace and Paralyze, you two will be taking the Lycan on the right head-on! Shiba, go with them and dish out the damage best you can! Alisea, I want you to give them fire-support!" The phrase wasn't meant to be literal, but it might as well have been. "When you defeat your Lycan, go after the boss and surround him!" Reylan had not yelled like he normally did, thinking that if the beasts knew how to speak then they could also listen. His plan was to attack Lycan 2 along with Alisea and take it down quickly.
For the moment, he shifted out of strategy mode into combat mode plucking an arrow from his sheath to start. The arrow notched nicely onto the bowstring as he pulled back, releasing the arrow while bringing forth his Power Shot ability at the oncoming were-wolf creature. His hand shot back for another arrow, hoping that his newly acquired bow would prove its effectiveness. Once more he sent a Power Shot towards his foe, a strong look of concentration in his silver eyes as it left his bow. His mind drifted to the three precious arrows in his inventory, a great temptation urging him to use them now but he resisted. They were for a desperate situation which this was not. Instead, he decided to conserve Mana for the boss and fire a normal arrow to finish his barrage. Reylan looked down at his hands, they were shaking now that he stopped firing. He was afraid for his own life but more so, he was afraid for the others. This fight was going to down to the wire, so he switched out his arrows for the obsidian ones he received the last time.
_______________________________________________________________________ Summary: -Drank blue potion x 1 -Healed (300HP from Karma) -Gave orders to Party -Fired two arrows at Lycan 2 using Power shot -Fired standard arrow at Lycan 2 -Switched to Obsidian Arrows (10 in Total)
Reylan watched his allies on the front-line fight against the ethereal foes, his eyes moving from right to left observing the results of their efforts. The silver-haired archer nodded in agreement to Karma's statement "Yeah, this will not be easy." It was time to make a assessment on their foes. Physical attacks, much like he expected, were not very effective and in fact did not connect with the model of the wolves at all. The good news was it still registered some damage with each successful swing. The damage output by Karma reinforced his order for the healer to do more combat spells. With a second volley sent towards Wolf 1, he expected the wolf to fall and they could move on "You're right. Finish off Wolf 1 and then fire another spell at Wolf 2" He responded to Karma In any game, it was often best to take out the weaker targets first.
They were standing on advantageous ground now, but they could not relent in their assault [color=violet"Aster and Dirk, you two charge wolf 2! Dub fire what you can at Wolf 3! Shiba, Polak, and Paralyze keep up the good work! You did well Karma, but try to conserve mana now!"[/color] The faster Wolf 2 fell the quicker and easier Wolf 3 would be "Don't hold back everyone, focus on taking them down!" He commanded. One other observation he made was that armor meant nothing to these ghost wolves. Polak had taken quite a hit despite being dressed in plate armor. Dirk took less damage but his mana bar had been drained instead. These were certainly tricky enemies.
Now it was time to discard the tactics for action, he drew three arrows from the quiver just above his waist. Reylan's teeth bit down on two arrows as he loaded the first, taking aim for the center wolf (wolf 2). He released the arrow but did not wait to watch it fly before taking one of the arrows held in his mouth and notched his bow once more. Once more he fired at the same target, adjusting based upon his previous shot. After it was cleared from his weapon, he notched the final and third arrow. This time he switched his target to Wolf 3, tugging the taut bowstring back as far as the bow-limbs could handle before releasing. This fight was all but won.
___________________________________________________________________________ Summary: -Gives Orders --Aster and Dirk to attack Wolf 2, full offensive --Polak stays on Wolf 2 --Shiba and Paralyze stay on Wolf 3 --Dub fire magic on Wolf 3 --Karma conserve magic -Fires normal arrow (2x) at Wolf 2 -Fires normal arrow at Wolf 3
Reylan nodded at Shiba "Of course, I mean you can't fight with people if you don't know their names right?" He asked rhetorically with a short laugh. He introduced Shiba to each of the party members present as the Guild's newest recruit. After those were done, he spoke once more to Shiba "The only one who is missing is Chari, she is our other rogue scouting another area. Like Alisea said, you'll be paired up with our Marauder, Paralyze. Our goal is clear the dungeon today but don't get too hurt out there, alright?" He placed a hand on Shiba's shoulder with a confident smile, his tone light but the words serious. The would be no point to this expedition if someone were to die on his watch.
Having got the newbie introduced to the team, Reylan made the call to move on "Alright guys, we're headed to Area B on the map. Hopefully the chests will be there to loot again." He was excited to get another crack at those chests. The path was the same as their last expedition, so that didn't change but what did made the leader hesitate. His immediate thoughts were to turn around at the sight of the three ghastly wolves since this was a dead end and there was no loot "Hold up everyone, I thi-" He barely managed to say before Aster charged ahead after the wolf on the left. This startled him and pressed him into action, retreat was no longer an option "Dirk, go after and assist Aster with Wolf 1! Draw them in! Paralyze and Shiba! You two take on the one on the right, Wolf 3! Dub and Polak, you and your summons take on wolf 2 in the middle! Everyone, keep your distance from each other in case of Area attacks! Karma, I need you to focus on combat spells! Attack wolf 1 to start!" He was inclined to believe this would be a challenging fight for sure.
Quickly he reached into his quiver and notched an arrow on the bowstring, pulling the cord back aiming for Wolf 2 and released. The string snapped forward sending the first arrow hurtling towards its target. He didn't hesitate loading the second one, this time lowering his knee to the ground to stabilize his aim. He took a deep breath and held it, taking an extra few seconds to line up a Power Shot at Wolf 2 again. Arrow 2 was released surging towards the target, Reylan exhaling as the arrow flew forward and stood back up ready to maneuver if the wolves went for him. His eyes fixed on the wolves, ready to read their movements and study their abilities as a sense of dread filled his heart. He suppressed that feeling with all of his willpower, they would not fall...not now and not ever. That was his belief.
