I've been roleplaying on a different website for a while, and one thing that I've noticed there is that everyone seems to do these pre-made characters/roles for the RPs. 

Sometimes it'll just be a name or a title/archetype plus a few bulletpoints, but other times it gets as detailed as this (not my character description)-

i. Byrne, Emaleth 
ii. Emaleth Nykteria ["Of the Night"] 
iii. If the gossip mongers of Haggy can count on anyone, it is Emaleth. She is like a shadow on the wall, for the way she seems to magically know all that goes on of these haunted halls. Although she knows all the rules that are broken and all the hearts that are crushed by deeds most unseemly, she refuses to take part in such revelries herself. She has her eyes on the prize, and getting caught up in pathetic merriment now would only distract her from her ultimate goals. Far from being a snitch, Em uses other’s secrets to illicit favors and loyalty. Most just assume she has a stick in somewhere unpleasant because she has never learned how to let loose, but all of the Byrne clan has a terrible secret. Their fortunes have dwindled to a pathetic state, and they have had to secretly sell almost all of their possessions of worth just to maintain their lavish persona. The dowry to Em’s betrothed was vast, with powerful objects and ancient texts since her family has never boasted of great power. That, too, has been sold off, and if her fiance’s family were to know the truth, her impending union may be disintegrated. Emaleth has to balance carefully to maintain her image of perfection, for if anyone were to suspect that she had nothing to show for her name, her future would be as dark as her heart.

The way it works on that site, most people either have a "reservation" system (first-come, first-serve) or you have to "audition" for a character, so you basically get a character based on how much GM likes your sheet (if there are multiple people "auditioning" for the same character). If you don't get the character you want, tough luck. They'll usually let you pick another character that hasn't been taken and run with it, but I find that most times I don't want to do that

I just wanted some of y'alls thoughts on that+pre-made character archetypes in general? I will admit that I don't mind being assigned a name/FC that much, and I think the pre-mades are a good system to ensure sort of """diversity""" among the characters (so that way there aren't like 20000 edgy emos in on RP), but after several bad experiences with the audition system I am really adverse to that. I don't mind the system that we have on RPG either (where you just make up a character on your own). I know people here/on other forum RP sites who will do vague/loose archetypes, which I don't mind either. But I think it's really fucking stupid to put in tons of work/effort for a character that you might not get to play, and a first-come first-serve system isn't completely fair either. I've been trying to think of a happy medium (ie very vague archetypes/roles), but I'm not really sure if there is one. I still think just player-created OCs are the best way to go, but again sometimes the archetypes/roles/pre-mades can be useful.

FACE CLAIM+DESCRIPTION: Cameron Boyce; wears glasses with horrendously thick frames

ABILITIES: Cass is capable of absorbing factual information through skin-to-skin contact. He is also able to transfer "life force" in between living beings (which allows him to "Raise" the dead, provided that he sustains their unlife with transferred life force), although this is a recently-developed ability that nobody but he (and to a certain extent, Jenny) is aware of.

PERSONALITY: awkward, nerdy, geeky, perpetually nervous, very good at memorizing things, very good at analyzing/processing things from an objective point of view, pretty dense when it comes to people's feelings, has a hard time expressing himself in a coherent manner, kind-hearted, loves video games and acquiring new knowledge, shy, timid, reserved, very quiet, hates being the center of attention, gets really embarrassed really easily, comes off as extremely apologetic, rather calm and level-headed if he knows that he can handle a situation, kind of a goofball if he's around people he's familiar with, a total goody two-shoes

MINI-BIOGRAPHY: Cassius Valentine was born to a perfectly normal family. He has a mother and a father who are perfectly human, as well as three older sisters who are also perfectly human. His parents are unaware of the existence of non-human species and do not know that Cass is a mutant, which he is perfectly fine with. Cass discovered his abilities in middle school, and he caught the attention of the headmistresses when a news story covered his "uncanny ability" to learn new things. The headmistresses told him what was going on and told him the importance of keeping his abilities a secret from his family, then sent him off to the Academies (his parents think he's at an elite boarding school on a scholarship).

Cass had always been a bit of an outcast, but at Hero High, the feeling of "not belonging" was more acute than ever. His classmates all knew each other from middle and elementary school, but Cass was an outsider coming in straight from the human world. He quickly faded into the background when the other students realized that he didn't really have much to say (nor did he have a particularly flashy ability, like James Zhao) and that he was a stickler for following the rules.

From the moment that Cass laid eyes on Genevieve Schmidt, he knew that he was in love-which was /quite/ problematic, as he knew that she would never even give him the time of day. When he heard of her death towards the end of his first year at Hero High, he was devastated. This was also around the same time that his life-force transferring abilities were beginning to manifest. Cass practiced his new ability for a couple weeks, then took a chance-he managed to smuggle Jenny's body (gross, I know) through the portal into the human world, where he Raised her from the dead and called 9-1-1, saying that he found her collapsed on the side of the road while he was going out for a walk. Jenny was rushed to the nearest hospital, which happened to be the university hospital that his father worked at. Due to the fact that Cass had not completely mastered his ability to transfer life-force, it took a few weeks to stabilize Jenny's condition and another few weeks for her to wake up.

During the time that Jenny was in a coma, the doctors and medics at the hospital realized that she wasn't quite.../human/. Although Jenny's wings had shriveled up and died with her body, there were still slight indications of her faerie nature, especially in her DNA. Cass managed to stall and divert their questions, though he knows that his tactics will not be able to hold them off forever.

Now that he's started his second year at Hero High by accompanying an undead girl everywhere he goes, Cass doesn't know what he's going to do. He thought that Raising Jenny and having her finally notice him would make him happy, but for some reason, it's...not (Jenny doesn't really /say/ anything to him, you see, and she doesn't seem particularly happy). In any case, Cass has no choice but to continue going forward. He can only hope that everything works out alright.

**Rumors/Romantic Interests:** As one can imagine, there are *so* many rumors that say Jenny Schmidt and Cass are dating (and Cass doesn't really know *what* they are, and he doesn't want to put a "label" on it until Jenny says something, you know? If she ever does say something?). Some students believe that Cass had a hand in Raising her, which makes Cass nervous. Other students believe that he stole a love potion from a witch and gave it to Jenny, which is why she stays with him. It's all very dramatic and tangled up and Cass just really doesn't want to deal with it right now.

**Extracurriculars:** An inter-Academy gaming club (there are like two members, including him) and various other nerdy pursuits (coding club, robotics, etc) 
**Favorite and Least Favorite Class:** Computer science (it just *makes sense*, you know?) is his favorite, while Physical Education is his least-favorite (his ability isn't very, well, useful, in such a class)
