𝓞nce upon a time, there was a beautiful princess who lived in the fair kingdom of Aciras. She was kind and sweet and compassionate and could totally talk to animals (at least, that’s what she would have liked to believe), and when she found out that she was to be married to a handsome prince…

...𝓢he posted the news of her engagement on Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and god knows where else (even Myspace, people. Myspace!), then invited the princes and princesses of the entire world to two months of pre-wedding celebrations.

𝓣hese princes and princesses aren’t just international celebrities, of course, nor are they merely the sons and daughters of the richest men and women in the world. They’re royalty, and with the royal status comes certain expectations from both their parents and their kingdoms. Many of them have been betrothed to another since a very young age, and although they may have contact with one another on official business, this will be the first time that many of them will be spending a prolonged period of time together...so hopefully it goes better than your typical first date with someone you matched with on Tinder, yeah?

𝓞f course, there are also some who are single and ready to mingle (for political purposes or otherwise), and still others who are here to socialize, explore Aciras, or negotiate trade deals and/or alliances. No biggie.

𝓐ll politics aside, there’s bound to be drama galore. Celebrity Twitter fights are nothing compared to the scheming and back-stabbing of these pretty princes and princesses, and hey-what happens when they end up falling in love with the wrong person?

(𝓘nspired by/based off of Haley's original When Royalty Collides RP; GM is @ayzrules and co-GMs are @HaleyTheRandom and @shylarah)

𝓐s the description suggests, this roleplay will be about an extended social gathering in the main kingdom of Aciras in the month and a half leading up to Princess Lea's wedding. All the invitees are princes and princesses of their own respective kingdoms (see "Rules" section for the policy on non-royal characters) and unmarried, and it is recommended that you work out a betrothal with someone before the RP starts (but not necessary/required). Once people have CSes up, I will also run every character who isn't already betrothed through a random number generator and post results in the OOC, in case any of the pairings inspire ideas.

𝓐ciras is the kingdom in which the RP takes place in (specifically, the capital city of Lynston), but you will be loosely creating your own kingdom in the process.

The Missing Persons

𝓛ieutenant 𝓝athaniel 𝓔nright went missing around the same time that Victor Bennett passed away. He was a member of the Legionnaire Guild and the air-navy, and by most accounts, he was dedicated and dutiful; loyal, if a bit gruff. He is forty-seven years of age, and was born into a long and influential line of Legionnaires. He is married to 𝓔lizabeth 𝓔nright, and they have a son, who is twenty years of age. Elizabeth has been particularly distraught since her husband's disappearance, although she has not let it affect the quality of her service within the Legionnaire Guild.

𝓙ohn 𝓙acob 𝓢mith was a member of the Scholar Guild, and he went missing about one year ago. He is now twenty-three years of age, and graduated from the Polytechnique Institute of Arts and Sciences as a Discourteous Genius. Although John is very scatter-brained, he is quite intelligent, even if he expresses his intelligence in the form of well-intentioned but rather useless inventions. He began experimenting with building automaton parts on his own during his time at the Institute, and allegedly continued this research after graduation, although his efforts did not yield significant results before his disappearance. There is no evidence that he dabbled in black magic/Myalo during the course of his research.

𝓟hilomena 𝓢horeditch went missing in July of 1891, and is currently twenty years of age. She was affianced to one 𝓢ebastian 𝓑ay, who reportedly went missing at around the same time. A member of the Craftsmen Guild, Philomena-who was referred to as "Lo" by her close friends and family-grew up an orphan, though she spent most of her youth as an apprentice to a clockmaker. She ran a small shop that sold a wide variety of clockwork trinket before her disappearance. Her younger brother, 𝓢ilas 𝓢horeditch, is reportedly a good friend of Edna's (Bread Pudding). She was spotted in December of 1891 outside of Silas' place of employment-a dressmaker's shop owned by a woman referred to as "Miss Dorothy".

𝓢ebastian 𝓑ay-"Bash", to his friends and family-also went missing in July of 1891. He is currently twenty-two years of age, and was a member of the Scholar Guild. He worked as an archivist, and specialized in translating documents written in ancient languages (it should be noted that he was especially proficient in the languages of the Wasteland Cities).

Creating Automatons, as the Wasteland Cities did it

(𝓟lease note that this information would only be available to select individuals-primarily those who attended the Polytechnique Institute-and that it is not wholly complete, as there are parts that have been lost since the Wasteland Wars)

𝓣he 𝓖eneral 𝓟rocedure
1. 𝓔xtract cerebral matter; use the process of centri-filtration (addressed later in this section) in order to separate out the raw Myalo; takes ~3 hours

2. 𝓤se a process known as clockwork compatibilization (addressed later in this section) to enhance the success rate of binding Myalo with the metal body; takes ~3 hours

3. 𝓛eave the metal brain and the clockwork-compatibilized Myalo in a shadow jar (see "Shades and Automatons" hider) together for ~5 hours so that the two can "bind" together

4. 𝓘nsert the clockwork brain into the body of the automaton

𝓣he 𝓟rocess of 𝓒entri-filtration
1. 𝓞pen a channel at the crown of the head with an abralye, which is a small blade-a cross between a needle and a scalpel-that can drill a hole into a human skull at a precise point without killing the person (thanks to a combination of ancient magic and runes); these are found in some archaeological excavations to the east and the south, and most are imported from Brassham City

2. 𝓤se Chlrika, a mixture of substances created with ancient sorcery originating from the southern tip of the Known World, to degrade the cerebral matter by pouring it directly into the channel created by the abralye (~1 hour)

3. 𝓦hen the Chlrika has fully broken down the cerebral matter, clear vapors will begin to emerge from the channel. At this stage, one should insert a thin tube into the channel and guide the emerging vapors and/or other substances into a flask. The substance in the flask at the end of this step should be a dark grey color, with the consistency of oatmeal

4. 𝓤se a spiral filter, a device made of bronze and glass and powered by steam, to spin the contents of the flask at a high velocity in order to separate out the raw Myalo by density. The raw Myalo will be visible as a viscous, dark black substance at the very bottom of the flask/container once this step has been completed

𝓣he 𝓟rocess of 𝓒lockwork 𝓒ompatibilization
1. 𝓝ot very much is known about this

2. 𝓝evertheless, the basics of this procedure involve infusing raw Myalo with a certain "essence of electricity" in order to make it more compatible with the automaton brain and therefore increase the success rate of binding energy from the human mind with a clockwork body

3. 𝓢cientists have speculated that this "essence of electricity" is somehow derived from either lightning or magical energy from an underground source

4. 𝓝ote that Myalo that has been "clockwork compatibilized" is a light gray color, as opposed to the dark black of raw Myalo

A study of the optimal methods to synthesize Myalo with the brain of a clockwork automaton

Background
In the light of recent developments in the field of automation, the work of Astory and Brill¹(1853) in synthesizing Myalo extracted from the human brain with the brain of a clockwork automaton is revolutionary, although not without faults. The method proposed by Astory and Brill, and subsequently employed by most scientists in creating clockwork automatons, has about a 63.1% success rate, as shown by statistics compiled by Paulsi²(1855). In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness of a method known as centri-filtration and first used by Walter and Clarkson³(1854) and a new procedure known as "clockwork compatibilization" (CC).

Centri-filtration is the filtration of raw Myalo (MYA) from the human brain after the human brain has been infused with a mixture of substances (known collectively as "Chlrika") that will degrade the brain matter. After the Chlrika procedure is performed, which will naturally break down the cells and material that makes up the human brain, leaving it in its most basic form, the brain matter is separated out by density, which allows the raw Myalo to be filtered out from the other brain matter.

Raw Myalo itself is a viscous, pure black substance. However, if left over time, it gradually becomes less and less viscous. If it is left alone in a shadow jar (SJ) for more than a year, the raw Myalo will become gaseous, resembling black smoke, as discovered by Wolfe⁴(1855). The properties of gaseous raw Myalo are still largely unknown."

Clockwork compatibilization, which we refer to as "CC" in shorthand, is a procedure that we performed after the raw MYA was successfully extracted from test subject #21. The basics of this procedure involve infusing the raw MYA with the essence of electricity in order to make it more compatible with the clockwork automaton's brain and therefore increase the success rate of binding a human mind with a clockwork body. Myalo that has undergone the CC procedure is referred to as "CC-MYA" in shorthand.

"I would very much appreciate it if anybody familiar with members of the Craftsmen Guild could assist Lady Imperia-Airwright and Bread Pudding in investigating Miss Shoreditch. In addition, if anyone has information regarding the missing individuals, it would be very helpful. Lieutenant Enright is a member of the Legionnaire Guild-as I previously mentioned-and Mr. Bay a member of the Scholar Guild. I will also make Mr. Smith's notes and the materials we were able to salvage from Mr. Overton's laboratory available in the near future."

Adrianna glanced in Rowena's direction as she shifted slightly. "Yes, thank you very much, Captain Kingsford," she said smoothly, sharp brown eyes assessing the individuals gathered. "To add to what the honorable captain has already listed, it would be in our best interests to attempt to monitor the goods being smuggled into the city, especially from Brassham City, which is where many of the tools necessary to create automatons come from."
