hihi everyone new npc info is up

also i am working on compiling my notes (and making them like, grammatically correct) for how EXACTLY ppl made automatons back in the day, which i will make available to yall once it is finished
Lady Chandler was the first to give her response-Buttercream Pearl. She was followed by Alexander Amidale, who chose Aubergine Handkerchief. Visia, who had arrived slightly later than everyone else, chose Bronze Gear for herself. Adrianna mentally made note of all three, knowing that Rowena was doing the same.

Next were the Lockhearts; Chester with Velvet Pendant, and Elizabeth with Quicksilver Glove. Adrianna knew that Rowena was mentally rolling her eyes, so to speak, at the slightly incompatible nature of "velvet" with "pendant" and "quicksilver" with "glove". Adrianna personally thought that there were more important things to worry about.

Brass Goggles for Lady Valarios, Cinnamon Lace for Arsenio, Raven Spyglass for Professor Grey.

Finally, a man named Dameon Brown said he would go by Phantom Mask. Adrianna remained as impassive as ever when the man spoke, though her mind was whirling. Ah. Mr. Brown. There will be plenty of questions for him, I am sure, considering his involvement the smuggling industry, if one could truly call it an 'industry'. Rowena, at the very least, will be curious.

They still had not heard from Lord Oaks (who would also be speaking for his brother, presumably), Dr. Halverson, Penelope Van Luthen, Lord Derrington, or Helena Burton. Lady LaVerre had not chosen one at all, though Adrianna saw that Rowena was already taking care of the situation. "How is Gold Chatelaine, my dear?" she was asking, her voice a soft murmur.

Adrianna cleared her throat, and she waited until all eyes were on her before speaking. "Thank you, everyone," she began. "For those of you who still have not chosen, please do so before you leave tonight, and inform either me or Lady Imperia-Airwright. Your cooperation would be much appreciated."

"Now for the first matters to attend to. Other than the circumstances surrounding Mr. Overton's murder, I have a...source who has confirmed that there have been bodies turning up everywhere, even with Mr. Elliot in jail. The bodies are found with the skulls split open, which is part of the procedure for extracting Myalo, I believe." Adrianna paused, letting this all sink in. "The source, who will be henceforth known as Bread Pudding, may also have details on where the items taken from Mr. Overton's laboratory are. I am currently awaiting correspondence, but I shall notify you all if there is anything of import to report."

"In addition, Lady Imperia-Airwright and I have discovered three missing persons. The first, and most unusual, is Lieutenant Nathaniel Enright." Adrianna laid out a clipping from a newspaper published almost two years ago (which she had taken from a section of Phillip Osborne's library, coincidentally), right around when Victor Bennett passed away. The headline announced Lieutenant Enright's sudden disappearance, and was accompanied by a man in his forties with a windburnt face and dirty-blond hair, his blue eyes serious and his uniform indicated that he had been a part of the air-navy. "Lieutenant Enright was, by most accounts, a very dutiful man, and very dedicated to his job. His friends and fellow air-navymen have described him as loyal and reliable, if a bit gruff."

"The second is one Mr. John Jacob Smith, who graduated from the Polytechnique Institute as a Discourteous Genius, mainly due to his scatter-brained nature. He was reported to have been experimenting with building automaton parts on his own, and he was reported as missing about one year ago."

"The last two, Miss Philomena Shoreditch and Mr. Sebastian Bay, were to be married last August. However, they were reported as missing last July." Adrianna laid out another set of portraits. "Miss Shoreditch owned a small shop that sold a wide variety of clockwork trinkets. Mr. Bay worked in the library in Ravensford, primarily as an archivist. He also specialized in translating documents written in ancient languages."

The portrait of Philomena showed a pale, almost doll-like woman, with dark strawberry-blonde hair and a whimsical look on her face. Her fiance, Sebastian, very much looked like the bespectacled scholar that he was.

Adrianna cleared her throat, slightly. "To be quite frank, we have no concrete evidence that connects these four individuals to Mr. Elliot. However, some of the prototypical plans of automaton parts that Mr. Smith drew up while he was still at school have been recovered, and I am in the process of obtaining the necessary permissions to inspect the confiscated automaton parts that Mr. Elliot built in person. I have also been told that Mr. Bay was well-versed in the languages of the Wasteland Cities, and that a woman who appeared to be Miss Shoreditch was seen outside a dressmaker's shop this past December."

Adrianna paused, letting her gaze flit around the room. "There are quite a few matters to address. Lady Imperia-Airwright and I have discussed it at length, and we believe that a division of tasks would be the most efficient way of confronting this problem."

"I would very much appreciate it if anybody familiar with members of the Craftsmen Guild could assist Lady Imperia-Airwright and Bread Pudding in investigating Miss Shoreditch. In addition, if anyone has information regarding the missing individuals, it would be very helpful. Lieutenant Enright is a member of the Legionnaire Guild-as I previously mentioned-and Mr. Bay a member of the Scholar Guild. Mr. Smith, as you may have inferred, is in the Scholar Guild as well, and was a student at the Polytechnique Institute."

"The Supreme Commander is of the opinion that determining what sort of procedure Mr. Elliot would have used to create automatons, as well as the materials necessary, would be helpful. I, for one, agree with this assessment, and I ask that anybody who is familiar with principles relating to automatons and Myalo to share what they know. I will also make Mr. Smith's notes and the materials we were able to salvage from Mr. Overton's laboratory available in the near future."

Adrianna glanced in Rowena's direction as she shifted slightly. "Yes, thank you very much, Captain Kingsford," she said smoothly, sharp brown eyes assessing the individuals gathered. "To add to what the honorable captain has already listed, it would be in our best interests to attempt to monitor the goods being smuggled into the city, especially from Brassham City, which is where many of the tools necessary to create automatons come from."

"And, finally, Bread Pudding has generously found someone to preserve the bodies that have been discovered. The captain and I would like to, mm, examine them more closely, and we would appreciate it if anybody who cared to join would let us know. We do apologize for the rather distasteful nature of such an investigation, but as we all know, such is a part of life."

And that was that. "Please, if anyone has questions, ask them now," said Adrianna. "Lady Imperia-Airwright and I will be setting dates later in April for all of us to convene once again. As I am sure you can tell, we would like to conduct this investigation with the utmost urgency."

๐“ฃhe festivities had been going on for quite some time when Captain Kingsford decided that it was time.

๐“ฃhe musicians struck up a particularly lively tune in the ballroom. Meanwhile, the captain strode towards a secluded corner near the stairs, while Lady Imperia-Airwright made her way to the door in a similar fashion, examining the door frame-damaged by the ever-so-lovely Lady LaVerre, she knew-before she deliberately pushed the beautifully polished mahogany door shut, jamming it against the warped area of the door frame. She tested it once, twice. It held.

๐“Ÿrofessor Grey had rounded up the rest of the stragglers. As far as Adrianna knew, Rowena had not disclosed a single word of their plans to the professor, but Adrianna knew that Alyssana was most definitely perceptive enough to take notice. In any case, Adrianna gave her a slight nod of thanks. It was only polite, after all.

๐“ฃhe captain glanced at Rowena, who was standing, as poised as ever, near the back of the assembled group. Adrianna knew that she was keeping an eye on the door, both with her eyes and with her mind, as agreed upon in advance. Unless there was a perpetrator in the form of an automaton or mechanical doll (as in Arsenio's case), nobody would be able to enter the room undetected. Adrianna was, all at once, immensely grateful for Rowena's ability. Of course, it could be quite irritating at times, but it certainly had its uses. At any rate, the captain preferred it to be used at her behest, rather than against her.

๐“žnce a hush had fallen over the room, Captain Kingsford cleared her throat slightly and began to speak. "First of all," she said, her voice calm, cool, collected, "I would like to say that I am extremely grateful for your continued interest in this...matter."

๐“drianna resisted the urge to glance at Lady Imperia-Airwright. Words had always come far more easily to her friend than to the captain herself.

๐“’aptain Kingsford knew how Rowena would have gone about this; she would have talked in riddles, all vague insinuations and enigmatic looks, leaving the other party to figure out the details for themselves, partly because that was just her nature, and partly because she was very, very careful. Adrianna, however, trusted that the lady was paying the door her due vigilance, and cut straight to the point. She had neither the time nor the patience to bandy about words all day, the way that Rowena did.

"๐“ฃhe reason you are all here today is because the Council has ordered the arrest of a certain alumnus of the Polytechnique Institute. Some of you may be familiar with the individual in question. He has been charged with illegal and unethical experimentation. Which, as you must know, is not unusual among the graduates of the esteemed Institute. Nothing, I believe, is illegal unless you are caught. Is that not how the honorable Headmaster operates?"

๐“drianna let her steady brown gaze flit over the assembled persons briefly before continuing. "This particular scientist's experiments involved Myalo and automation. I have been told that he was on the brink of success when the Council caught a wind of his actions and ordered the Supreme Commander to immediately arrest him. All his work was confiscated. He is currently being held in a secure facility, the location of which I have not been informed of."

๐“ขhe paused, gauging the reactions of the people in the library. "The scientist in question is named Mr. Lucius Elliot. He was good friends with one Victor Bennett, who I believe some of you in this room are quite familiar with." Ms. Vernell especially, Adrianna recalled. According to Rowena, anyway.

"๐“ฃhe Supreme Commander wishes that we investigate this matter. The Council has not been involved with anything besides Mr. Elliot's arrest, but there are certain loose ends that are not tying up as neatly as they should be." The captain lifted her chin slightly in Rowena's direction. "Lady Imperia-Airwright and I have chosen every single one of you for a specific reason. We would deeply appreciate your continued cooperation, although if any of you would like to withdraw your interest in this matter for whatever reason, we urge you to do so within the next twenty-four hours. After that, I have probable reason to believe that extricating yourself from this situation will be considerably more...difficult."

๐“t this point, Lady Imperia-Airwright stepped forward, smiling sweetly. Her eyes, however, were as sharp as ever. "Indeed. Thank you, Captain Kingsford," she said, inclining her head in Adrianna's direction. "As the honorable captain has said, we would deeply appreciate your continued cooperation. A single misremembered word could put all of our lives at jeopardy, so we urge...caution, one could say." Something shifted in her expression, then; the sweet smile was still there, but Rowena had drawn her lips back so that more of her pearly-white teeth were exposed. There was something undeniably predatory about the smile, about the unreadable gleam in her warm brown eyes-but it was gone just as quickly as it had come, and Adrianna could not help but to feel a certain fondness for her friend from finishing school. Time changed many things, but it had not Rowena's ability to be beyond terrifying when she felt like it, it seemed. That, combined with her family's reputation, usually could dissuade some people from doing things that they would later come to regret.

"๐“ฃhe first matter we would like to address," said Adrianna, watching the attention shift back to her as Lady Imperia-Airwright subtly stepped back once more, "is the murder of a man named Gabriel Overton. He was thirty-one years of age when he was found decapitated in his laboratory three months ago. The laboratory in question had been ransacked, and everything of value was missing. We presumed that the missing items were stolen by the same people who killed Mr. Overton."

"๐“•or those of you who are unfamiliar with the man in question, Mr. Overton also attended the Polytechnique Institute. He and Mr. Bennett were instrumental in the recent modifications to mechanical wings, although the two did not collaborate on any other projects." Adrianna paused, letting the information sink in. "At the time of his death, we discovered plans for mechanical birds hidden in his chambers. The details of this endeavor, however, were missing. I have reason to believe that Mr. Overton was attempting to create mechanical birds the way that the scientists of the Wasteland Cities created human automatons-that is, extract Myalo from a source, namely the brain, and then combine it with a metal frame or body."

๐“’aptain Kingsford exhaled slowly before continuing. "I also have reason to believe Mr. Overton was heavily involved with various smuggling operations in order to obtain the necessary tools to perform such a...procedure. Most of which, I will add, have been outlawed since the conclusion of the Wasteland Wars. Anyway, Lady Imperia-Airwright and I strongly suspect that the perpetrators of this crime was Mr. Elliot himself, with any allies that he may have acquired. The Supreme Commander and the Council, however, refuse to accept this claim without evidence to substantiate it. So the first matter of business is examining the extent of the connection between Mr. Overton's murder and Mr. Elliot's scientific work."

๐“›ady Imperia-Airwright coughed softly to get everybody's attention. "The captain and I extend our sincerest apologies for imparting such a volume of information all at once," she started, "but now that you at least have an idea of what we are up against, I must stress the importance of discretion. For that reason, we ask that you do not attempt to become too closely acquainted with the other individuals in this room." She paused delicately, and Adrianna could see how much it pained her to be this...direct. "These are only precautions, of course, but all the same, it would be very much appreciated, in case something untoward transpires. Additionally, we ask that every person come up with an alias or a pseudonym that we may use to refer to you in any written correspondence. We also ask that you do not try to record one another's selected aliases in any way, shape, or form. If, in the future, you are unable to recall somebody's alias, I would be happy to extend to you an invitation to afternoon tea." She flashed them a winning smile.

"๐“จes, thank you, Lady Imperia-Airwright," said Adrianna. "In order to keep the aliases as innocuous as possible, we have decided that each one should be either a food or a drink, or an article of clothing. Exceptions, of course, can be made, so long as the alias is appropriately discreet. Henceforth, I will sign my letters to you all as 'Gunpowder Tea'. Lady Imperia-Airwright has chosen 'Ruffled Parasol'. We would very much appreciate it if you could take a moment to think it over and then inform Lady Imperia-Airwright and I, as well as the others, what you have chosen for yourself. I am sure that some of you will have questions as well; feel free to voice them now. Thank you very much."

๐“—ushed murmurs rippled through the library as Adrianna took a step back. The captain glanced at Rowena, who did not acknowledge the look. Good. All was well in terms of the door.

I have an idea that may or may not happen? But, like, glitzy cyberpunk space robot unicorns with a ton of glitter and sparkles, TBH. Based off of Robot Unicorn Attack 2 (which is, like, Temple Run but with unicorns. And IMO has a much prettier aesthetic)

I have some bulletpoints of lore written up, but the most extensive thing I've done for this is make a huge and hella disorganized Pinterest board. whoops

(said Pinterest board is mostly fashion and make-up. Again, whoops)
