A green armored man paced in front of a squad of jump packed wearing marines. He nodded his head slowly, cradling his helmet in the crook of his arm. A smile on the mans face. He turned to the squad, "You are marines yeah?" The squad growled and thumped their chests with their gauntlets, all in agreement. The pacing marine smiles broadly. Looking towards where the captains and commanders congregated, discussing their battle plans and tactics. The pacing Marine chuckled, "Then if you be Marines. Who do you protect? Nocturne?" The marines in the squad again growled and grunted in affirmation. Pot'Apher the pacing marine chuckled, "How about Prometheus?" The squad clasped their fists and thought of home. Pot'Apher nodded, "Then you be Marines. But who do you fight for?" One of the Marines in the squad steps forward, "For Mankind." Another Marine stepped forward, "For Terra." They both brandished their close combat weapons at him. As if challenging Pot'Apher to say otherwise. Pot'Apher raised his own Thunder Hammer at the squad nodding, "For the Emperor on his Golden Throne." The Squad grunted again a resounding yes. Pot'Apher nodded, "Truly you are Marines."

Pot'Apher nodded, "Enough of my theatrics now brothers. We've all been here before. Everyone of us has fought in more battle then we can number. Some of us against the Greenskins. Some against the Eldar, or the Tau. The Necrons. It matters not. Starting today we fight our cursed brothers. Those who gave their souls to the Ruinous Powers so many centuries ago." Pot'Apher again looked to the captains and the commanders. He nodded slowly. Then raised his hammer again, swinging it up over his shoulder. Turning back to squad, "Say your weapon rites, ask the chaplains for absolution, and make ready. Make sure each and everyone of you has a full compliment of equipment. We are Vanguard, we may end up being part of the first group in." Pot'Apher turned then knelt as one of the Minostorum priests approached. He made the sign of the Aquila across his chest, whispering praise to the Emperor as the priest began to pray over him and the squad with him.

Okay yeah sorry. But I've been in too many RPs where the opening posts take FOREVER to be posted, because people are unsure of what to do, where they should put their characters etc.

I'm assuming most of the copany is together in this opening section. So I'm trying to put a tasteful post together in my head. While also taking into account that my Marine is of the kind that is usually sent in as the spearhead. But I've also found that starting an RP in combat is kinda boring.

So yeah awkward posting moment right? How do you put a post together that doesn't make you look too eager or too restrained? I know I'll figure something out soon enough.

Also remember that Rejuvenate procedures exist in the 40K series. As the Hero of the Imperium, Cain qualified for them. And if I remember correctly he went through 2 or 3 of them before he passed on I think. That's how at 200 he looked like he was about 40 or so.

I was originally going to make a Imp. Guard, Sanctioned Psyker. But I didn't have it in me. So what was next? Termie? Naw I saw that Path was making one. So I went for Epic. I went and did some research. And I honestly almost made a Sternguard at first. But though a Vanguard would be more fun.

Equipment: Mark VII Aquila Armor, Storm Lord Pattern Thunder Hammer, Standard Pattern Jump Pack, Back up dual Combat knifes, Tigrus Pattern Boltgun, Melta-bomb carrier

Personality: Approachable, friendly and likes to banter playfully with his battle-brothers. Has a tendency to laugh and try to crack jokes in the middle of battle. As well has purposefully go out of his way to niggle at any Sterngaurd Veterans who might be in ear-shot.

History: "You will fight in the streets, and in the habs! You will fight for the enemy's death, not your own lives! You will fight and you will drive this filth from the Emperor's city. You will do these things, or you will face my wrath." - Captain Denon, 2nd Company

These words were never more true in the case of Sargeant Pot'Apher of the Salamanders. Many a time has he used those very words, quoted almost verbatim to spur his men onto even more glory. During his time in the Assault Squads or his time in the Devastator Squads. It did not matter.

Taken into the Salamanders at the age many usually are. When a man is young, virile and strong. The best age, so a man has a better chance of surviving the ordeal of becoming a Neophyte and beyond that becoming a true Astartes. It should be no surprise that Pot'Apher went through it all. Survived every step, many of those who were taken on did not make it. Some killed before they could receive their first implants, some after. But Pot'Apher went all the way. Surviving and maturing. Year by year, becoming stronger, faster, deadlier, day by day. He paid his dues as a scout, and showed early that he was much more at home with close range killing then long range sniping or mid-range marksmanship. When he received his Black Carapace he was filtered into the ranks of the Devastator Squads. Where he provided close range support, and in times of duress, close combat interdiction with his pistol and blade. Hundreds of engagements passed, centuries ebbed by. He wielded a Lascannon for about 50 years or so, before he was edged into the Assault Squads. There he came into his own.

His love of close combat, with sword, pistol and the sound of fighting around him made his skills bloom like never before. He rose to the task, fighting beside his brothers. Blazing through the air at the sound of their commanders call. Dropping from on high into the middle of an unaware enemy group. Deep-striking with the help Thunderhawk. It mattered not, he did it with gusto. He fought in the Assault Squads for years. Moving up in rank, attaining the rank of Sergeant, before being given a great honor.

He was offered a place among the greatest. An accolade he never expected and never really sought out. Places had opened, and offers were made. One place, was for a sargeant position, at the head of a new squad of Vanguard Veterans. And that place was offered to Pot'Apher. Such an offer does not come regularly. And what a fool he'd be if he turned it down. He donned the mantle of Vangaurd Veteran. He sailed forth at the head of a squad of Veterans, in fact some of them from his previous Assault Squad. They flew into battle like a comet from heaven.

Well I did say Etc :P Sanctioned Psykers are part of the Imperial guard army, i did put a psyker slot as well. I was just listing examples not so much telling you the only classes you can take.

To be honest, I had completely overlooked that section of the CS....

I'm curious.

Are there options outside of the templates you mentioned? Astartes, Inquisitor, Storm Trooper, Imp Guard, and Assassin?

Add even more flavor by adding in a Sanctioned Psyker or a Ecclesiarchal Hierophant.

I'll drop this line of questioning completely if you say no.

Like I said I'm just curious.
