Bio
Just a small, fragile birdboy with a huge beak. I used to be Manapool, but we don't talk about those days. I have been here a while if you couldn't tell.
In all honesty, I am 25 and in a committed relationship outside of roleplay. I work as a cook who works nights. I'm a big fan of seeing people's food they make and learning about new foods if you ever want to share. I enjoy tabletop games, card games, and video games as well as reading comics in my spare time. Your typical nerd, you might even find me at conventions!
Most of the time I stick to Superhero groups and Play by post D&D here. I have admittedly begun taking far fewer rps. I prefer Fantasy and Superheroes as a genre but I find myself more and more interested in interested in Sci-fi settings too! My main fandoms are Fallout, Kenshi, and Marvel but I have a lot of niche interests like Hylics, Neopets, and Monster High. Do you have a strange fandom you want to rp? I am the kind to at least take a look at the source material!
These days I am closer to a low to mid Casual roleplayer. I want at least a paragraph from replies and don't mind dipping lower than casual if it fits the flow better. I am capable of writing decent long posts but expect me to take eons to reply. I also must warn you that I tend to lose a lot of steam in the winter months.
@Lord Frostecs This looks great, I will finish reading it soon. Be aware though, I already drummed up a lot of interest in the check, so there is a lot of competition. I think there is another person running this idea as we speak!
@RandomnessI am still doing the other one, don't worry. Just put up the description and I am starting on the ic. Before I even had this idea though I had a couple of characters already made up, so I edited one and put it here.
@StarfrostedFox Was not sure if you were doing the competitive league or like people already in the big leagues. I have a list of other pokemon I imagined them taking and I can put a ful team here to start with if you prefer. Notably a cutiefly, slowbro and Slaking
Appearance: A lithe and Petite young woman who is paler than a ghost. She has bags under her large, blue eyes from a lack of sleep and thick black hair that has plentiful split ends and desperately needs thorough combing. Her hair is long and flowing, naturally curling at the ends and nearly reaching her hips when flowing freely. She has a soft, round face and is, overall, an attractive woman when she wants to be. She has a snub-nose. Standing at a whopping 5'5, Elena is smaller than the average person, but only by a few inches, which, combined with her thin frame and tired, pale look, makes her seem frail at times. Her hands have slender, bony fingers tipped with long nails. The palms of her hands have hard calluses and rough skin from years of hard work.
When Elena isn't wearing a work uniform, she is usually in the most comfortable clothes she can find. Shorts, sweatpants, leggings, and skirts all have staples in her wardrobe, and these are matched with sweatshirts, t-shirts, dresses, and tank tops to match. Most of her clothing is black or similarly monochromatic, with the occasional t-shirt with a band or TV show on it. For her Pokémon adventure, however, she has handpicked a nice black pinafore dress with a white t-shirt and matching white leggings underneath.
Personality: Elena's motto in life is 'roll with the punches' since she never seems to catch a break! Hard-working and determined, Elena is always willing to put her heart into things she cares about, but she always remains humble in her endeavors. She is a patient woman and remains level-headed in the face of adversity or rudeness. This is a double-edged sword, however, as Elena's humility also acts as a weakness, since she is easy to walk all over. Particularly cruel people could easily take advantage of her kindness and patience. Luckily, where Elena is hard-working, she also believes in relaxation, learning to take her time, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. A walk in the woods might be a rush to find new Pokémon or a race to get to the next gym for some. Elena would be the kind to stop and smell the roses, so to speak. A coffee might be an energy boost before a long day for some, but Elena will enjoy each sip as if it were her last. When she puts her mind to something, she will stop at nothing to succeed, but when she is idle, she enjoys the chance to breathe!
As Elena has struggled with a tough life, she is always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt to a fault. She believes everyone deserves a second and even third chance to redeem herself and is always willing to lend a helping hand, even when it will cause her to struggle. Ever the optimist, Elena refuses to judge a book by its cover and does her best to look for the 'inner beauty' in others!
Elena has a particularly soft spot for all things cute. She simply can't say no to a lillipup's pleading eyes or a young kid's request for a sweet treat. She herself has a sweet tooth, and while generally very willful, she can't resist a nice cup of Joe or a pastry on the go.
History:
When most people think of the sprawling metropolis of Goldenrod, they don't think about about the struggles of the average family there. Beyond the sprawling townhouses, the skyscraping city scape, and constant hustle and bustle, there are also the lives of the day-to-day workers who live there. Elena was like most of them, born to two blue-collar workers struggling to make ends meet. As one of several siblings (currently 7) and having parents who worked full time, Elena did not see her parents often and from a young age took on the role of caretaker for her younger siblings. Living in a crowded townhouse together, she learned to live with a lack of privacy and cherished the closeness to her family who all cared for one another. From a young age, Elena showed interest in Pokemon, and as her older siblings moved out and got their own, her desire to have one of her own only grew. Unfortunately, Elena's luck with Pokemon never seemed to land her a clear companion. Multiple times she found herself being chased by Rattata or returned home bleeding from an attempt to get close to a Spearow. When she was old enough, her family attempted to take her to a proper pokemon professor to receive her own pokemon but sadly she was put on a backlog and was far enough back on the waitlist that she didn't bother getting her hopes up.
Luck never seemed to be on Elena's side in general. Growing up always raising her younger siblings and tending to the home, she never managed to make many friends. Similarly, her hobbies and interests were never something she could truly focus on in such a crowded home. As such, much of her youth was spent working hard. When Elena became a teen, she picked up a job at a Cafe to help her family raise money and in hope of one day striking out on her own. Tourists and residents alike flocked to her humble workplace, a hole-in-the-wall place wedged between the plentiful skyscrapers and buildings around it. Nevertheless, Elena was determined to make a living for herself, saving money for a chance to eventually move out, or even better: to begin her Pokemon adventure!
During her time at this cafe, after a long day's work, Elena went to take out the trash. Normally she found pesky Pokemon who would charge her for her rancid 'goods' or scavengers lingering in waiting for her to deposit another bag of trash. This time, however, she was met with a trubbish. She couldn't help but watch this thing struggle to try to tear open the bag as she sent it into the dumpster, pathetically attempting and failing to rip the bag with its fingerless 'hands'. The next day, it was there again, and so on the third day when the trubbish remained, still yet to open a bag, she brought it some of the stale bread from the cafe. The trubbish devoured the meal in a matter of seconds. Seeing how hungry the pathetic thing was, she began making it a routine to feed her new friend. Each time he greeted her pleasantly, and as she got used to his rancid stench she even began to help and play with the Pokemon.
As she grew older the dream she had built for herself was slowly eroded by the cruel passage of time. Elena began to see that without a pokemon to start her quest she simply wouldn't be able to advance any further as a trainer. By now most others would have long since defeated gym leaders and created powerful teams. She was far behind and this only made her more dejected. She funneled her growing depression over the lost of her child-like dream into her work and family, taking on more degrading work in maid cafes or working wild wedding bars, watching people enjoy their lives as she grew to loathe hers.
Her main solace during these times was her Trubbish. He started to hand around her more, and eventually he started to follow her home. Her family was dismissive of the pokemon at first but eventually, they gave Elena something that would change her life forever: a pokeball. She used it to capture her first pokemon, that very trubbish.
Elena struggled as a trainer, but her persistence was dauntless. Time and time again she tried, failed and repeated gyms until she won. While she her pokemon were never too impressive she proved to be an impressive trainer by taking them farther than ever expected. Her persistence was noted, especially as she continued to take badge after badge, each one seemingly easier than the last for her. A talent scout picked her up and she never looked back.
Ditz the Spinda Stats: Endurance: D- Power: C Speed: B+ Adaptability: S+ Potential: D- Personality: Ditz is a bossy, Bratty girl, but she’s the de facto leader and the closest to Elena. She refuses to stay in a pokeball and barks orders from the sidelines, sometimes orders that directly defy Elena. She tends to be sassy and brutally honest about her feelings, but uses this to support her allies. Her bossiness all comes from a place of love, too; she really does want to see them win! While she sometimes butts heads with Elena, she cares for her trainer greatly, and knows Elena would rather die than give up on her.
Fynn the Gyrados Stats: Endurance: D Power: S+ Speed: B+ Adaptability: C- Potential: B+ Personality: Seeing the particularly colossal Gyradoes, an already impressive species, one would think he would be the true ace of the team. Unfortunately, a few particularly painful memories from its Magikarp days and an already skittish disposition leave him as a total crybaby. He whines and moans and is a shy, pathetic guy who would just as likely cower behind Elena as he would fight. He does care deeply for Elena, though, and when he fights, he can be a real threat. Just don’t expect him not to flinch when they fight back.
Oscar the Garbador Stats: Endurance: A+ Power: C Speed: F Adaptability: B- Potential: D Personality: Oscar is the jolly green giant who rivals Elena in terms of enthusiasm. He is always chipper and rarely takes anything too seriously. He tends to be very lax and calm, but fusses over Elena like she was his own blood. Most of the other Pokémon find Oscar uncomfortable to be around because of his smell, but he is always blissfully unaware.
It takes years to train a Pokémon for battle. Years of sweat, blood, and tears that often never amount to anything. Every kid can catch a Beedrill or a Geodude, and a few get lucky or work hard enough to be the toughest in their town. The truly dedicated might take on a few gyms, and only those seemingly destined for it ever even make it to the elite four of their region, let alone defeat the champion.
Yet that is only scratching the surface.
The elite four, the regional champion, all these gyms. These are just practice for what comes next. Surpassing the milestones and gaining those notches under your belt are just traditions to prove you’re ready for the big leagues.
Above all else, Pokémon battles are the most revered of sports. It’s an ancient tradition that is seemingly universal anywhere humans and Pokémon collide. So ancient it is primal, that it harkens to a part of ourselves we all crave to see. Those able to prove their mettle are those worth watching. Their battles are legendary and well-received. Who wouldn’t want to see such a spectacle?
But it isn’t all glamor and glory.
For as long as it takes to make it there, it’s rare for a trainer or their Pokémon to stay in the ring for long. Age gets to even the strongest, injuries impair even the most durable, and hearts weigh heavily with each husk of a fighter that must be discarded and replaced when they have lost their edge. Still, everyone, Pokémon or not, in some way strives for that moment of glory, fully aware of the dangers.
Welcome to The Valkyrie League! A Pokémon roleplay focusing on the competitive side of battling. Imagine a sports anime like Haikyu or Hajime no Ippo, but with the lovable mascots of your favorite game series! Expect training arcs, tournaments, and lots of angst! Do you have what it takes to thrive?
This roleplay takes more of an example from the anime and its logic rather than the games. Any Pokémon is capable of being powerful, and it’s a matter of finding and cultivating the best ones. A happini can lift a frozen lake, a bellsprout can tangle with the best. Just because a Pokémon is considered bad or is usually good at one thing doesn’t mean they have to be in this roleplay! Each Pokémon is unique and fights in its own way.
In this roleplay, the elite four are just a stepping stone and the real trainers are those who manage to beat them. These select few make up the Valkyrie League, where the most renowned trainers from all across the world battle for others to watch. Instead of focusing on the league itself, however, we are here to look at a group at an academy, preparing to join the Valkyrie league. Up-and-comers on a sporty mission.
I am looking for a very small group of players, potentially 3-5 total. If you’re interested, send me a character sheet below! Please feel free to ask questions.
Da Rules!
16+ for any players hoping to join. Pokémon is a family freindly rp, but I swear like a sailor and don't want to write with children.
Nothing sexual, please, and while this roleplay will be violent, try to avoid the excruciating gore. We don't need Invincible fights here.
Be respectful to everyone, just don't be a dick
God modding is a no-go, and I WILL call you out for it
I expect at least 2 paragraphs per rp. You can do that, I know you can.
No ultra beasts or legendaries.
Homebrewed regions are fine, but no homemade pokemon.
Pokeacademy staff
Hazel is the ‘homeroom’ teacher for Block C, where the players are. They are also the only professor whose classes have very little to do with working out or training. Instead, Hazel’s class is about understanding your Pokémon on a scientific level and using that to enable Pokémon to unlock their potential. Expect to learn how to keep a Pokémon on a diet or how to draw out latent power through unorthodox methods.
Papaya’s class is the most in-depth of them all, as she is an instructor who helps Pokémon learn, hone, and perfect techniques. They practice with accuracy and combat effectiveness without direct sparring here as well.
Spruce is the conditioning teacher. He helps design the best regimen for a Pokémon to train, both physical and mental. Spruce is way more helpful as a coach than a teacher. His energy seems to make the biggest wimps surpass their limits.
Maple is more of a medic and referee than an actual teacher. He oversees sparring and analyzes the best ways to improve teams through combat training. He is also there to help Pokémon recover from injuries and to prevent injuries by reading the signs that Pokémon’s bodies inevitably give.
The facilities
Just outside of the complex, secluded in the wilderness, roughly a quarter mile away. The battle grids are by far the best place for sparring and battles. Secluded but close enough for medical attention.
The battle grids are large platforms with elevated towers for the trainers to stand on to get a proper vantage point over the area. The area appears as a low, white grid; various augmentations and changes can be made to the area to make it simulate roughly any environment. Several pre-made designs include: Rocky mountainscape, tall grass fields, Bamboo forest, and many more.
These are state-of-the-art inventions used by the Valkyrie league, and as such, this is likely the students' first taste of this tech.
Surrounding the courtyard are several large houses. These are the dorms and living spaces for the students, but they are in functionality more like a sorority house. These buildings may house up to eight people, and there are currently four of them. Housing here includes a living room and bedroom, as well as a private shower and bathroom. Each building has one communal kitchen and living room as well.
Very little furniture is supplied, but a spacious walk-in closet is built into the bedroom, as well as a futon. Each room also has a safe for personal belongings and a desk in the living room to give the students a comfortable place to do any other activities beyond their Pokémon training.
Built into the central building of the overall school on the left wing is the gymnasium. The Gym itself is a multi-floor establishment. The upper area is full of workout equipment, weights, and dumbbells. The second floor is primarily open-plan, but various forms of sandbags are about, as this area is designed for training technique and form. The lower floor is primarily used for light sparring and working on combinations and techniques. This bottom floor is primarily covered in padding or small rings.
On the left wing, on the bottom floor, is the Olympic-sized pool and various other large bodies of water. Primarily, these are used for helping water-type Pokémon, but the pools are far from limited to just them. Swimming is a core exercise for any Pokémon (provided they can go in the water).
On the second floor of the left wing is the bathhouse. Primarily, this is several saunas and sweat lodges, but ice baths, boiling water, and mud baths are also available for use. Behind the left wing is the hot springs, rich with mineral water and hot water that is perfect for relaxation and recovery.
The courtyard is the large area between the dorms and the main building. It is a large and spacious patch of greenery with well-maintained hedges and a large fountain in the middle. Stone pathways guide people to the facilities about the area.
Behind the facilities in the large, open garden. Much of this garden is a massive expanse of plants to see and relax: an arboretum, a botanical garden, but the garden serves a very real purpose, too. This area is used for cultivating berries and various important foods for Pokémon’s diets. Students are welcomed, or even invited, to partake of the area, and to use the various berries cultivated here for battles and for dietary needs.
A staple and selling point of the academy is the fact that it was constructed on a fairly remote island. The island itself, however, is shockingly sizable at nearly 30,000Kms in area. Most of the island is untouched, though small trails have been made to safely deliver people to the more scenic views, and game trains left by Pokémon little the area.
This expansive wilderness gives people a chance to get away and enjoy the serenity of nature or to train in more recreational ways: Rock climbing, hiking, etc. The more pragmatic aspect of it all is that the island is teeming with Pokémon. Many types from all across the world call this island home, and it is rife with potential additions to a student's team.

Pronouns:
Trainer Type: (Do they specialize in a type? Are they one of the trainer types from the games? Or just a general vibe)
Hometown: (Prefer town and region but just region is fine. Custom regions or from the spin-offs are fine!)
Appearance: (Description required, art appreciated)
Personality:
History: (It can be brief)
Goals: (What do they want to achieve? Why?)
Team: 6 pokemon maximum, you will be able to switch out pokemon but must be approved first.
Template:
Name: Species: Personality: Stats: (Use a letter grading format. F-S) Endurance: (Staying power. Can they take a hit? How long can they fight?) Power: (Raw strength and ability to deal damage overall) Speed: (Agility and sheer speed) Adaptability: (How likely are they to adapt on their own? Do they have abilities that help them outside of hitting hard like leech seeds or spikes) Potential: (How much room for growth do they still have?)
Here is an example character (and potentially one I might use later)
Name: Valeska Yamamoto
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Trainer Type: Battle Girl/Action girl
Hometown: 3 Island, Sevii Islands
Appearance: Val is a massive woman. Tall and she is broad and made of muscle. Her skin is a dark tanned color, and she is always smiling and cheerful, leaving her with laugh lines around her mouth. She has plush lips and perfectly white teeth.
Val has a strong jawline, especially for a woman, giving her face a somewhat angular and blocky frame. Despite this, the rest of her facial features are fairly soft. She has large brown eyes that gleam with excitement and a tiny button nose. Her black hair is wavy, cut short to her shoulders, and is usually tied back by a scrunchie or lifted by a sweatband.
Personality: Val is a good sport and a great friend to have. She is eager to learn and loves to test herself, and rarely lets her temperament get in the way. She is protective of those around her and brave in the face of adversity, but can sometimes come off as overbearing. Val is used to being around buff fighters and her tough brothers, and as such, she can be a bit rough with people unintentionally.
Val is a bit of a meathead. She struggles with thinking of strategies beyond hitting harder and has never been much of an academic. She applies herself in everything she does but when it comes to pursuits of knowledge, she always seems to fall flat. Despite this, Val has an unwavering perseverance that keeps her from giving up. She is also smarter than she may look, though most of her knowledge lies within more practical skills: cooking, cleaning, martial arts, and survival skills.
History:
Goals: Restore her family Dojo to it’s former glory.
Team:
Hariyama Stats: Endurance: S+ Power: B Speed: F- Adaptability: B- Potential: D+ Personality: The wise, old mentor to the rest of the party. All the other Pokémon look up to him, and he knows it. He is the only Pokémon Valeska has from her father, and so they share a deeper connection. Hariyama matches much of Valeska’s more ‘brute force’ methods. He is stuck to his fundamentals and slow to act. He studies and reacts appropriately but more importantly, takes his time.
Outside of combat, he acts the way you might expect an old man to. He takes it easy, preferring leisure and order to his life. He is incredibly patient but somewhat grumpy, from years of training tikes.
Nuzleaf Stats: Endurance: B- Power: C+ Speed: B- Adaptability: B+ Potential: B+ Personality: A spunky, upbeat Pokémon with a lot of Moxie. Nuzleaf is a newer member of the team and a very eager fighter. He yearns to prove himself and looks up to Hariyama like a father. Nuzleaf has a lot of tenacity and doesn’t give up; it trains diligently and puts its all into anything. Unfortunately, Nuzleaf has no idea when to stop. He often gets carried away and pushes himself.
Raboot Stats: Endurance: C- Power: B Speed: A+ Adaptability: B Potential: S Personality: Easily the laziest member of the team, but a total savant. They cost of talent and raw power but avoid training. Roboot can be a very moody, grouchy Pokémon and is by far the most likely to ignore Val’s commands. It comes as no surprise that they but heads with Val. Roboot tends to try to look cool and nonchalant at all times, but the facade falls apart when they get into a battle and feel overwhelmed. They take defeat very poorly and brood when they are put down.
Primape Stats: Endurance: B+ Power: S+ Speed: C- Adaptability: A- Potential: B Personality: A ball of fury that represents the competitive side of Val. Completely unfettered and turned into a problem. Primape is furious, violent, and utterly unhinged. The other Pokémon are afraid of him, save for Sawk and Hariyama, who trained him. Primape doesn’t mean to be such a bully, but he wears his heart on his sleeve.
Ledian Stats: Endurance: D- Power: C Speed: B+ Adaptability: B+ Potential: F Personality: If Nuzleaf is the baby of the group, Ledian is the runt. The weakest link, and every member knows it. Ledian is a bit of a worrywart who consistently puts themself down. That said, they are the heart of the group for sure. Ledian is always supportive of others and kind. They can also be a bit selfless, willing to sacrifice everything for the team.
Sawk Stats: Endurance: B- Power: A+ Speed: B+ Adaptability: B+ Potential: D- Personality: Sawk is a no-nonsense, by-the-book, and highly disciplined individual. He is everything both Nuzleaf and Raboot want to be: stoic but tenacious, graceful yet tense. He tends to remain the strong, silent type of the group. He has the coolest head of the team, always remaining undeterred in battle.
Wobbuffet Stats: Endurance: S+ Power: D- Speed: C+ Adaptability: A Potential: D- Personality: Wobbuffet is not the brightest, or perhaps is just strange. She seems completely carefree even in dire situations and never takes anything seriously. They can actually be somewhat impish, given they enjoy taunting people, knowing they won’t easily take them down, and that hitting them is all but certain doom.
