But in a capital-S kinda way.

I invented necromancy and the windmill. I beat the sun in a poker match during the summer of 1273 and God hasn't felt the same since.

No Man's Darkness

How do you describe that which doesn't exist? Some might tell you "You don't." or "Just make it up". Or, if they're a sarcastic type they might say "Well a werewolf doesn't exist either but I can describe one perfectly for you.", and the funny thing is that they are wrong, there isn't a completely accurate way to describe nonexistence. How do I know this? It's quite simple honestly: I don't exist. I don't and nor should I, and the fact that you are here means you don't either, this place...this hell...It's a place unlike anything else, this place is a nightmare for people like you and I, the only sounds here are silence, and the only sight is darkness, this darkness is not simply a wasteland for us to wander, it is a prison, this place 'knows' us, it understands who we are, what we've done and why we've done it. Everyone and everything here lives is only here because of some unspeakable act they have committed in their life, worse than the most sinful murder, more ambitious than the grandest of larceny, it doesn't matter, if it is so horrible an act that you wouldn't wish it upon your mortal enemy, if it is so horrifying you wouldn't hear the bravest soldier speak of it without fear, these miserable souls have done it, and they now pay the price. This place may not seem like it but once you get used to the abysmal darkness, or the deathly silence, you'll know that your judgement has called. In a place like this, there is no salvation, no redemption, no hallowed ground, only unending darkness, and only grasping silence, and I can't feel sorry for you. Knowing the purpose of your being here, it's not easy feeling sorry for someone.

That is what they would have me tell you, that is what I'm supposed to say, they...the watchers. They own this place, it's their fault we're here, I have been here for so long that the one who told me the same thing has become but a distant memory, it's now fallen to me to shatter people's dreams, to crush their hope when some of them were simply accused wrongly, almost every soul here has passed me and has been told the very same thing: There is no escape from this dark and silent hell. But the truth is, that is a lie I have grown accustomed to, I know there is an exit, I know the truth and yet I lie, I lie and put these poor people down, but the problem is that I have no choice, you see, I was forced into this position by the watchers because I'm the only one who knew the truth, when I told people they laughed, they laughed in my face like a priest to a heretic, after all, what place do I have to get their hopes up when it was the very same soul who tore that hope into ribbons? But when I told the watchers of this, they grew angry. And I will explain this.

A long time ago, I came to this dark world, there was a soul there who told me I could not leave this nightmare, I refused to believe him, but gradually, my eyes adjusted to the darkness, the white noise grew distant and I believed him. I wandered the darkness for ages, time became irrelevant to me when I came across a ruined city, buildings had crumbled, roads were barricaded, homes were ransacked, it seemed as if a storm rolled through. Although the silence was no different, or the darkness for that matter, I enjoyed the solitude away from everyone else. It was after wandering around for a while when I found a cathedral that was blocked off in a seemingly desperate manner, worse than the roads around me, the usual barricades were up but there were stone walls guarding the entrance, rubble from the surrounding buildings were sitting in front, and ropes and wires were strewn about like a spider's web to keep apparently everything out. Curiosity got the best of me and so I climbed for who knows how long to get over the many shields, I stepped through the doors of the towering building and saw a ruined statue about 30 feet high, at it's base was a platform of bricks it was standing on, one of the bricks seemed to be loose and glowing, when I removed the brick I saw it, a small grey sphere with cracks wrapping all around it in an ethereal white light. It was only until I saw it that I remembered what "Light" was.

The light showed me an image of a world that seemed all but alien to me, my mind had filled with memories so old. I could have reached in and left on my own, the thought seemed to be all that mattered in the world, I wanted to go home, I wanted nothing more, but then the thought expanded, I thought of the watchers who kept me imprisoned, I thought of the people who didn't deserve this imprisonment, I thought about how the watchers had us all on their leashes. Ever since the day I told them about this thing, I was forced to greet the new souls and tear their dreams apart. And it angered me, all these people trapped here, I would not stand for it. I likely have no place doing this but it did not seem right to me to leave all of these people behind, I owe it to them, they have just as much hate for the watchers as I do. I have pulled the wool over their eyes for far to long, I am done being the one to shatter the dreams of thousands, the world we live in will go empty, I swear it, I did not want to be the one to break hearts, the one to shoot down dream, to shatter hope. I did not want to damn hundreds of people, but I did anyway, I owe it to these people whether they accept it or not.

Now I sit here at home, writing all of this down in the most obvious yet overlooked place, no one would expect to find me here, but my time is short, soon they will come. To anyone who finds this, if at all, know that you have my most deepest apologies, it was not in my best interests to shatter your hope, I did not have any choice, I can hear them outside, they are trying to get past the barricades. My time is running out, the way out can be found at a desolate city far from here, you'll know it by the crumbling spires and war torn streets, look for the heavily blocked cathedral, under the ruined statue is a loose stone, remove it and you will find this place's salvation. Whether you save yourself and yourself alone or you get word to everyone else is up to you, they have found their way in, they're coming for me now. To any who find this, my name is '̀͝ ]҉̶̴̧̡ \͘͡͞]-̴̶̕͘͠ '",͘͜҉ , good luck, and goodbye.

Jack just shrugged and found one of the ends of the court and stood there in case someone on the other team were to come over there and try to score, in which case he'd stop them to the best of his abilities, assuming he could. He knew very, very little about this game but was going to try anyway. Ok, how hard can it be? Just stop them right...?
@Eponymous Not quite sure to be honest ;-; but We'll see

Welcome to the dark side, can't recall the last time I've done an rp this in depth if ever.

The year is 2103, and the world you thought you knew is dust in the wind. In 2021, a company in North America developed technology that could put previous technology to shame. A blend of Engineering, Neuroscience and physics were put to physical use to form a division of science called Verology. This technology could be used to alter the human body and the very DNA that makes it. It began with experimenting on small creatures such as rats or large insets such as Mantises. It only took a few hours to change a helpless rodent into one that could outrun a cat, or a small mantis into an apex predator among insects. Verologists took it a step further and used this discovery to treat birth deformities or war disablements. Changing amputated stumps into working, seemingly flawless limbs. From this golden opportunity for greatness spawned a company known as Vernex, a company in which Verologists let their ambitions run wild, treating small things such as disablements and altering them into perfect limbs to incredible things such as treating cancer patients doomed to die. As one could imagine however, this was not as simple as it seemed.

Verology was expensive, in the thousands, very few people could afford treatment of even fixing limbs, it seemed to only be the rich who even dared schedule an appointment to see a Verologist. Some of the rich didn't even need to see a doctor but were to happy keeping their options instead of giving it to those who were in desperate need. By 2022, the full public was aware of the situation: A new division of science could repair the most fatal of injuries or diseases but few could pay for it and even less were in need or willing to help. The people were furious, uprising sprung up soon after with messages to spread. "We need it more than you!", "You're no better than us!" or "Why should you be allowed help and not us?!" were only a few of the many messages the people spoke about. These uprisings were no more than simply groups of three, maybe four people at a time rambling about the outrageous manner, though this strengthened when some people agreed that the rich should be the only ones able to afford Verology, leading to fights on the streets, clashing opinions and even the occasional riot.

All of this lasted for about 50 years, up until 2072 when a few of the rich decided to show humility and give some of their money to the people who weren't so lucky, the public was joyful and thankful for this but some got cocky, thinking luck was on their side, a few groups enlarged and stole some technology due to the fact that most of it simply had to be plugged into a wall, when word reached the government of these actions, panic ensued, security was put in place, police were sent out to disperse the crowds. And back home, people made the attempts to use the technology they stole to help either themselves or their loved ones, thinking "How hard can it be?". This was where the real problems began.

Very few people knew how to operate the things they had taken, surely there were a few Verologists who sided with the people but they weren't trusted, this led to several problems such as failure to operate the machines properly, mistakes in using them and distrust. Verology handled the practice of rearranging and altering a person's DNA into a desirable manner, this was not easily done for someone who was an expert Verologist, nevermind someone who had little if any experience with Verology if even any knowledge of it. This meant that if anyone could get the machines to operate, they would likely never succeed in fixing DNA right, very few people survived this, most died of illness, mutation issues or misplaced cell structures, the few that did survive were changed forever. Their minds were warped and twisted, they were monstrous and hostile, most of them were reduced to frail, feral states. Granting them the nickname "Feral". While they were a rare thing to find, they were also a deadly sign. As the riots grew greater in size, so to did thefts and therefore more failed attempts to run Verology equipment. A tenth of America's population was reduced to ferals.

After 12 years in 2084, a law was passed saying anyone caught with any form of Verology technology outside of Vernex would be punished, ranging from being beaten down to life-long imprisonment, this didn't stop anything anymore that it did increase it. The people were enraged to hear this. It didn't matter if it was just some old piece of broken equipment found on the streets by a boy, he would be punished, people began meeting the authorities with violence, more was stolen, more were killed, more ferals were set loose. Eventually the ferals were noticed by the government and tested on, they discovered that their state was a result of failed Verology, the people's doings. Thinking the people couldn't deal with their own problems, police were sent out to shoot down ferals, confiscate technology and show people the error in their ways, it was one thing for the government to respond, but for them to harm the people was another. Eventually, society gave in and collapsed all together, the people were taken over by iron fisted ruling governments, the idea of democracy is that the people decide who governs, on the day November 8th, 2084, democracy was a vehement ideal. The world had fallen.

Almost 20 years have passed since the old world had fell, the rich and ruling have enslaved the people, Vernex has become a tyrant power that has come from a simple idea that DNA can be altered. The people are forced to work where most are to good to set foot. A large city has been walled off by Vernex to "protect" it's people, ferals have become a common threat outside the walls after breeding for years. People are forced into rundown facilities that have been adapted to assist Vernex, in these rundown areas, referred to as ruins by the people, are dangerous and as the name implies, in ruins, ranging from schools to malls or god forbid storm shelters, the floors could cave in at any given moment, the roof could collapse, or if you're really unfortunate, a few ferals in hiding may not go hungry.

And to the present day of 2103, another day in the new world, life hasn't changed. But someday, someone is going to stand up yet again. Someone is going to say "Enough", are you prepared for such a day?

Neither am I...
