The announcer waited for the cheers to die down. In the Green corner, from Vermillion City, Kanto we have Trevor Walton!" Once both trainers were in position, The Ref called for the trainers to call out their first Pokémon.

After all of the prelims, the top sixteen included: Liam, Shiranui, Nando, Morrison, Harrison, Ash, Tyson, Liam's rival Trevor, and some others.

Liam and Jiriya walked back to the room he was sleeping in earlier, which Joy arranged for Shiranui to have as well. They got separated form Shiranui in the crowd. They eventually caught up to him while he was looking in their direction.
"Something wrong?" Liam asked.
"Ninja?" Jiriya inquired.

Soon after the torch was lit and Liam was in the crowd of trainers, the prelims begun. Liam saw Wally in the crowd of trainers and told Shiranui. There were over three hundred trainers here. They would be weeded down to the top 32. From there on, each battle is a full six-n-six battle. With that the trainers were dismissed to go sleep, and the prelims would begin the next morning.

Soon enough, it was time for the opening ceremonies. Liam was picked to run the final leg of the torch's run, which he did with Jiriya.
