W H A T I F...? W H A T I F...? ________________________________________________________________________________________ ... FRANK CASTLE RETIRED AFTER AVENGING HIS FAMILY? Frank Castle had a good life. He had a loving wife, two daughters, a good job as a vice detective in the NYPD. He saw the worst of people in that job, but his family carried him through it, reminding him that there was still good in the world. Six years ago, Frank shut down a drug running operation helmed by the Saint mafia family and killed the family's heir, Bobby Saint, in the process. Needless to say, the head of the family, Howard Saint, wasn't very happy with this. Two weeks later, the Castles were killed by a car bomb, with Frank as the only survivor. Frank swore revenge, embarking on a one man war against the Saints, tearing apart their operations and killing prominent members of the family. He came to be known as the Punisher, an unstoppable killing machine that was swiftly and brutally ripping a hole into the fabric of NYC's criminal underworld. At the end of his crusade, he held a gun to Howard Saint's head and pulled the trigger. Frank had half a mind to put the gun to his own head after that, but some part of him held onto the hope that he could still be saved. That there was still something to live for. On that day, Frank Castle died. Six months later, a man named Charles Forte walked into Greene's Groceries asking for a job. For the past five years, Charles Forte has lived a good life. He has a little dog named Chip and a good job at Greene's Groceries. He sees a lot of people everyday, the best of them he hopes. But pretty soon, the worst will rear their ugly heads. P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) ________________________________________________________________________________________ It's been a minute since I've played The Punisher in one of these games and I've wanted to revisit my idea of a retired Frank since the last time I did it. Hopefully, this time it won't bomb. While I'm placing Frank in the prime multiverse, I don't plan on taking a big part in the Skrull invasion due to Frank being a more street level character and my own lack of knowledge on that particular part of Marvel lore. At the start, I plan to be self contained, telling the story of Frank's return to vigilantism after a gang intrudes upon his neighborhood and begins to terrorize it. After my initial arc, I will be open to collaborating with other players and getting up to all sorts of hijinks.

Justice League - The Unlimited Protocol

A small picture of a famous rapper hailing from New York City was pressed up against a bulletin board by a red thumb tack. A red string attached to the thumb tack linked the picture to a newspaper clipping about an increase in drug usage among teens, which was in turn linked to a picture of a New York City drug kingpin, which was in turn linked to a newspaper clipping about increased gang activity in the NYC metropolitan area, and so on and so forth.

"Wait... No, that's not it."

The Question pulled the rapper's picture off the board. Even though the rapper's music was laden with drug references, that still wasn't concrete proof that he was involved in this drug ring the Question had been investigating. A finger tapped against his masked chin as he considered whether to abandon this lead or not. His racing thoughts were enough to distract him from the hazy mist slowly seeping into his room from the vents.

Then, the intercom came on.

"This is Red Tornado speaking. I strongly suspect that our base of operations has been struck by some type of airborne poison. However there is a small chance the instance of gaseous fumes is coincidental, so I do not feel confident declaring it for certain. Regardless, please attempt to find a safe place to avoid further contact with potential toxins."

"Hrm? ... Hmm." The Question noticed the mist enveloping his room. He almost panicked before remembering the filter built into his mask. Even still, he knew that it wouldn't be able to fight off the mist's effects for long.

Breaking into a sprint, the faceless vigilante left his room, holding a sleeve up to his mouth to hopefully help against the gas. He continued his sprint towards the monitor room, but it was a struggle to make his way through the halls with the thick clouds of gas. His breathing grew increasingly labored, and he came to a stop as his chest was racked with coughs. Footsteps were approaching from up ahead.

Suddenly, he felt small. Through the mist, a tall man in priest's attire approached him. The sight of the man brought the Question back to his childhood in the orphanage and the encounter he had with this man so long ago.

"No..."

"Are you ready for some real fun, Victor?"

His normally red hair is dyed black using the same gaseous compound that binds the mask to his face.

Potential Storylines:

Cry Of The Banshee - An old foe from the Question's past, notorious gangster Maxwell "The Banshee" Bine, resurfaces in Metropolis looking to take over the city's criminal underworld by force. With an army of mobsters at the Banshee's side, the Question must enlist the help of the Justice League to take him down once and for all.

The Happening In Metropolis - Children have been disappearing in Metropolis, abducted from their homes in the dead of night. The Question takes it on himself to investigate, discovering that the culprits behind these kidnappings are members of a cult known as the Serpent's Order, who are looking to sacrifice the kids in an attempt to summon a powerful demon.

Cadmus Unveiled - More disappearances have been occurring in several major US cities; all the victims have been metahumans. Vic plans to report the case but finds himself stonewalled by shady officials who show up to the Daily Planet's office. It's up to the Question to investigate these disappearances and the government's connections to them, but how deep does the conspiracy go?

BRIEF Bio:

Charles Victor Szasz was born in Hub City to a destitute mother who worked as a prostitute to support herself and her son. At age 7, Charlie's mother was murdered and he was placed into a home for destitute children, which he was promptly kicked out of at the age of 18. After a short while on the streets, he was taken in by Aristotle "Tot" Rodor, a chemistry professor at the local university. Pulling some strings, Tot managed to get Charlie into college, where the young man changed his name to Vic Sage and majored in communications.

Fresh out of college, he got a job at The Hub City Gazette, Hub City's premiere newspaper. For a while, Vic was comfortable in his position but was troubled by Hub City's crime and corruption. He needed a way to do something about it beyond his job; that came in his mentor Tot, who needed help with a former colleague, Arby Twain, who was looking to illegally sell one of their inventions, Pseudoderm, an artificial skin that was meant to be used as a bandage. Vic agreed to help Tot out and take down Twain's operation, with Tot designing him a mask using Pseudoderm. Needless to say, Vic succeeded. His next target: the Gospel of Sinners, Hub City's resident crime syndicate.

A year ago, the Question was brutally beaten by Lady Shiva, who was hired at the time by the Sinners. After taking a bullet to the head and a dip in the icy Hubert River, Vic was saved by the very woman who beat the life out of him and sent off to train under Richard Dragon. Under Dragon's tutelage, Vic learned martial arts and took on his mentor's Zen philosophy. After returning to Hub City ten months later, Vic dismantled the Gospel of Sinners' organization, accomplishing what he had set out to do five years prior when he began his career. Now, he has joined the Justice League, moving from his native Hub City to Metropolis and taking on a new day job at the Daily Planet.

It's raining.

Four men inside the shack. From outside the window the Question can hear the occasional mumbled curse, sometimes barks of laughter. He feels his muscles tense beneath his trenchcoat, the knot of excitement in his stomach rising. In just a moment, he will do violence, or maybe have violence done to him. He might die. But in this moment, he is alive.

The door crumbles into splinters at the force of his foot. The poker game ceases as the four men all jump to their feet. The Question steps over the broken door and into the shack, cracking his knuckles. "You have a flash drive. I want it," he says as he continues his stride forward.

One of the thugs, a well built man with red hair, chuckles. "Fellas, I don't think he really wants it. Do you think he wa-" His words are cut short by a fist to his face which sends him reeling back and into the CRT television they had set up, the TV falling onto the man's head. The Question blocks a punch and follows up with a sharp jab to his attacker's throat, sending the man to the floor as he coughs and sputters for air. He ducks beneath an attempted tackle, throwing the man over his shoulders and onto the ground. A quick stomp to the charger's face and he's out for the count.

The last man standing raises his hands. "Goddamn! Don't hurt me man, please!" The Question steps forward and grabs him by his shirt collar, gazing deep into the man's eyes.

"You have five seconds to tell me where the flash drive is before I break every bone in your body. Starting with the fingers."

"I-it's in a safe in the back! I'll unlock it for you." Question drags the man over to a door and pushes him forward. The man produces a key and unlocks it, before stepping inside and heading to the safe. He spins the dial a few times before it cracks open, revealing stacks of money. On the top of a band of hundred dollar bills sits a small thumb drive which the man grabs and hands over to the vigilante.

"I'm probably gonna get hurt bad for doing this... At least tell me who the hell you are."

"Good question," he says, before knocking the thug out with a single punch.

One Universe: Unlimited - A Marvel/DC Comics Roleplay

Just wanted to check in and say that I have not ghosted the roleplay. Lot of things have come up the last few weeks and I haven't had time to just sit down and write in a while, but I'm getting to work on my next post and should hopefully have it up at some point in the near future. Thank you to Master Bruce for graciously extending the deadline period for everyone.
