Elder Tales: Chronicles of the West
A Log Horizon AU Role-Play
Life was going pretty good for Fred. College was great, his friends were outgoing and fun, and his girlfriend, Emma, was amazing. He was keeping busy by casually playing intramural sports and joining in on clubs and organizations around campus. But then he found out that his old favorite game was getting an upgrade and update with the introduction of the new expansion pack, Novasphere Pioneers, and he was going to be totally up for that.
==========
"You can't be serious," Emma sighed, attitude and all. "You're canceling our date for a game?" Her hands dropped to her hips as she shook her head in great disappointment. "I even put on the red dress you like!"

Fred turned to his girlfriend with a innocent lip bite, checking out what he was going to be missing out on if he ditched her to play his game. He ran his fingers through his hair, contemplating on what to do. She was glaring at him with her pouty face and doggy-like eyes. Either he could score with Elder Tales or his girlfriend, and that was something that he probably should have answered faster than what he was doing now.

"Fine, we can go to dinner." Fred said, giving in to the temptation of his significant other. He dropped the game, with it still in the freshly, off-the-counter box and got ready for the date night, in hopes of getting lucky. The date was to a fancy Italian steakhouse that was out-of-this-world expensive for a 7oz steak and a glass of their cheapest wine. He had spent almost double the amount of money on the dinner that he had just used for the expansion pack of Elder Tales that day, making both him and his bank account tear on the inside just thinking about it.

After the dinner, the date went on with Fred taking Emma to her favorite ice cream joint for a scoop of mint chocolate ice cream. He himself ended up not getting anything with what he wanted later on for desert instead. Another hour passed by as the love birds continued on with their date, until Fred found himself back at Emma's dorm room. "You know you can spend the night here, Becky is over at Tim's so I'll be here all alone."

That's the thing Fred wanted to hear all night. Ever since recovering from his accident he wanted to live life as normal as possible. He wanted to forget everything bad that had happened to him and start fresh. Having a new, wiped, and clean plate would make his life easier, and Emma made it so much more fun and exciting. "Yeah, I can do that."

"Are you sure? I know how much you wanted to play your game..." She muttered, teasing his face. "You can always sleep over next weekend."

Emma was just teasing him senseless now. This time he didn't really have to think about the choices between her or Elder Tales, he was already there and they both were already willing. The no brainer here was for the comforts and love Emma, rather than the virtual grinding and accomplishment of Elder Tales. "There's always next weekend."
==========
Waking up from his fun night of play, Fred tasted an odd taste in the air. His back was sore, feeling like he slept on a log and not the comforting mattress that was Emma's dorm room futon. Rubbing his eyes for clarity he sat up, drowsy and exhausted, still tasting the odd taste of the air. He noticed a lot of green around him, and paid closer attention to the background noise that wasn't Emma's quiet snoring or the rummaging of people in the dorm halls, it was the sound of birds chirping loudly and bugs buzzing around.

Patting himself on his chest he felt a shirt, having known for sure that he was sleeping in the nude during the night, puzzled him. "What the hell..." He muttered, coming out of his sleepy, drowsed state. It took him a few seconds to realize that he was outside, with clothes, and a pair of metal gloves of some kind. He panicked, and stood up, looking around him. Tress, vines, shrubs, everything around him was either that or ruined and old building. "Where the hell am I?" Fred said out loud. "Emma!?"

There was no response as he shouted for Emma for a few minutes, only hearing the echoing of his own voice. Bringing up his hands he checked out the metal gloves. They were made of what looked like silver steel, but were only as light as a box of new shoes. After his examination of his gloves and new clothing he began shouting again, this time calling for anyone.

"Hello? Anyone out there?" There was still no signs of others or responses, until he heard a growl from behind one of the bushes. "Whoever or whatever's there, come out... I'm pretty friendly.

The growl became much more loud and receptive, and also sounded pretty angry. Fred biting his lips, nervously waited for whatever was behind the bush to jump out. "I promise I am friendly."

A second after a wolf lunged at the red haired man, it's mouth dripping with saliva as it was ready to take a bite out of him. The first reaction of Fred was to swing a right hook, and he did, catching the wolf at the side of the face, sending it flying to the right, back into a bush. "Oh shit! I'm so sorry!" Fred said, apologizing, but it seemed as if the damage was already done way before he even tossed a punch as the wolf lunged again, growling and snarling even louder and blood-thirstier than before. It charged Fred, this time coming in to swipe at the man with it's claws. Fred backpedaled, dodging swipe after swipe before hammering down both of his fists together at the wolf's head. It let out a yelp as Fred roared: "Dragonfire Claws!" Throwing down three punches engulfed in flames at the wolf.

That's when Fred took notice of something on top of the wolf's head. It looked like a menu or status screen that you would see in a game. Putting the pieces together he finally noticed what the hell was going on. The menu bar showcased a health and mana bar, and with him shouting out the Dragonfire Claws, it all made sense where he was, but not why or how he was there, in Elder Tales.

"I really did want to play the game," Fred said as the wolf's body began dissolving into yellow, angelic orbs. The orbs began surrounding Fred and flew into him, giving his body a tiny surge of adrenaline.

The smile on Sam's face never faded as Tas told him about her adventure as an intern. He ate with the biggest grin and nodded his head, reacting to every word that came out of her mouth. The smile grew tenfold as she joked around with him about never having or holding a man's heart, and it made him chuckle as she began chanting on his heart. If only Sam was man enough to actually say what he was feeling then things would and could be different.

The two were close, and Sam was scared. He didn't believe in himself as much as he should, especially for a girl like Tas, his confidence was always somewhere else. It didn't help that Tas was still having her fling with Connor, something Sam disapproved of but was respecting the decision she made on her own. It wasn't that Connor was a bad guy, Sam had hung out with him and some ladies a few times, it was just that he didn't want to force Tas into anything she wasn't ready for, something he wasn't ready for either.

As she rested her head down on his lap, tickling and teasing his chin with a blade of grass he responded to her question, explaining to her that he had just sat there, watching the meeting with the clients as his boss and Ryan a senior member of the creative team was pitching their campaign ideas. "I didn't say a word the whole meeting, but honestly, it was exciting just to sit there. That'll be me one day though," the man smiled. "With the clients pitching my ideas, while you're going to be leading the hospital as the Chief of Surgery or something!"

Finishing up his story, Sam had a jump scare as a wild Claire appeared out of nowhere. It wasn't just the wannabe chef who had jumped though as Tas rose up from his lap the instant Claire jumped in. "Hello," Sam said, bouncing back from the scare. In the second Claire appeared another second and Sam was left alone with the picnic mess. He was about to give a proper farewell when the two girls dashed away, leaving Sam with his smile, waving goodbye. But what felt like a third second later was Tas running back and giving Sam a very loving and tight hug. "I'll hold you to your promise, and thanks for reminding me."

As the embrace ended he watched the two friends stroll off. "Should probably get back..."

After work Sam had quickly ran back home and changed into a new outfit(dark green top instead of blue), opting out of taking a shower, because he honestly didn't smell that bad. He shot out a few sprays of his cologne and rushed out of the house, not even thinking about his roommates until he was locking the door. On the outside he shouted to them, hoping to catch if any of them were home, "I'll meet you guys at Nat's, gotta run to my parents first!"

"Umma," Sam said as he walked into the kitchen of his parents restaurant. "I'm here for the food for Natalya's birthday."

"That's it?" His mom snapped back, "Not to see me or your father? What about a girlfriend, are you married yet?"

"Umma..." Sam said hesitantly, with a sighing chuckle. "I miss you too. And no girlfriend yet. But I got you a grandchild, they'll be here in a few months."

With a smile she rose her hand and slapped Sam on the arm, "Stop your joking! You put my hopes up when you joke like that!"

"I'm serious," Samson said, changing his tone. "It's a girl and she'll be here in a few months, I'm just not marrying the the mom."

"Your food is over there," his mom replied, pointing to the back. Everything had been packed up into bags easy enough for Sam to carry out alone. "I taught you better than that, stop lying." With a wink she gave Sam a kiss on the cheek and sent him off to his friend's birthday party. "Tell Natalya I said happy birthday, also tell Natasha I miss her and she needs to stop by soon!"

"Anything for you, Umma." Sam said, kissing his mom on the cheek as he left. He soon plopped into the car, tossing the food into the backseats as he drove off to the party.
I'll hopefully get the first post tonight, if not then tomorrow. Been busy, girlfriend's birthday.
I'm alive. Sorry! I'll be catching up with everything now! :D

His meeting felt like years, but it was over in an instant. The clients loved the poster designs and were ready to kick off the campaign. His clients were a fresh and young group of guys who started up a new surf shop, something Sam could see himself getting into as a customer. Shaking hands and giving out his respects to his peers and co-workers he made his way back to his desk, grinning and feeling pretty accomplished. It wasn't until he was near his desk that he noticed something that brightened up his day yet again.

Tas was sitting in his chair twirling around. His grin turned into a blushed smile, it was an actual surprise that she was showing up at his office. It was usually him who was showing up to see her, with a box of food too. "So what did I do now?" Sam said jokingly, "It's either something really good or really bad."

Tas grabbed the side of his desk and brought her spin to a sudden halt, holding her hands out in front of her slightly as the room kept spinning. Tilting her head back she smiled up at Sam, he always looked so dashing when he was here. Normally she saw him like she was, jeans and t-shirts. She had to admit, he cleaned up nicely but in her eyes he'd look good in anything.

"Hello to you to," she said playfully as she stuck her tongue out at him. Tas had a very caring and jovial side, but it rarely came out. Nat saw it from time to time but around Sam the doctor was always happy; hell she wouldn't even make a snide remark to Dom in his presence.

"Figured since I had to run out on you last night, I'd make it up to you," she said as she reached over and picked up the small cooler she brought with her. "Got a few to have lunch with The Doctor? Sorry if I left my bow tie and fez at home," she teased as she pretended to adjust her imaginary tie.

Smiling from ear to ear Sam of course accepted the lunch, who could ever deny a beautiful girl from a lunch that she made? "I always have the time," he grinned. In his mind he ended the statement with a for you, but he kept that to himself. "Maybe I can get a check-up or something too, I haven't been to the doctors in awhile."

"But of course, have to keep you in top shape don't we? The Doctor is at your service," Tas chuckled.

He reached out his hands like the gentleman he is and helped the fair lady up from the chair. Tas's fingers laced with Sam's as he helped her out of the chair, stumbling slightly and pressing against him just barely before she righted herself. She brushed it off that she was still a bit dizzy from spinning in the chair.

"Um, sorry," she said biting her bottom lip lightly.

"You're perfect." Sam smiled. In a split second it hit him what escaped his lips. He stuttered back, "I mean, you're fine... So... there's uhh perfect spot out front we can eat at, it's got shade and everything." He tried his best to recover from his little Freudian slip as he pointed out towards the office entrance.

"That sounds great," she said as she leaned over and picked up her bag and the cooler. ""I have a blanket in the back of my car we can grab." Slinging her bag on her shoulder and pulling her sunglasses down she was about to say something when she heard a phone chime, turning she saw Sam's phone on his desk light up.

"Seems you're being paged," she said as she picked it up and handed it over to him.

The text was from Nat, with details of the favor she had asked.

"Nat needs food for her party tonight." Sam chuckled. "Korean food it is then!"

"Food emergency, call Dr. Delivery," Tas laughed. Sam shot over his reply and led Tas the way to the tree.

The two made a stop at Tas's car for the blanket before setting up their lunch, underneath a big tree in the open mall in front of the office. The setup was done quickly, with the blanket being laid out and the two grabbing a seat underneath the shade of the tree. Sam acting like a schoolboy giggled at the excitement of his lunch. "Wonder what you made me!"

Tas rested on her knees next to Sam as she pulled the cooler over, smirking at how he was acting. Why did he have to be so damn cute? It wasn't fair. Shaking the thought away she opened the cooler and started pulling out a couple of tupperwares that were sealed tight. Within them was nothing big but it was a nice meal.

Tas had marinated some flank steak in a pomegranate based sauce and seared it off, sliced thin and placed it over a bed of romaine tossed with some croutons and Parmesan. In a bottle was some Asiago and poppy seed Caesar dressing she had made. Tas wasn't the best cook in the world but Sam had shown her a few things and she picked up quick. It wasn't anything spectacular but it was a good meal, finished off with some fresh bread.

The last thing she pulled out was a Ziploc bag of quartered lemons. Holding them up she shook them slightly and chuckled.

"Just in case," she teased.

Sam's boyish heart exploded as she teased him with the lemons, she knew exactly what to do to make everything better. "You're the best.

Less than a minute after he sent his text to Tas, his phone vibrated with her reply:
"Hey, sorry I had to run off last night, I'll fill you in on my wonderful shift when you get off work. ><! And of course I will hun. You're going to make it for the festivities later on?"

With a cheeky grin his mood brightened up tenfold, reading the message. There was something about Tas that just made Sam smile a little bigger every time. As he was about to shoot a text back there was a knock at his desk.

"Boss-man needs the edit in fifteen," Eric, one of his co-workers, said. "We're presenting to the clients right after, you're sitting in for this one too."

"Oh, alright! I'll get on it right now." Samson replied. He dropped his phone and quickly went to work. Again, he could feel it, today was his day. He gave a good idea to his boss and now he was going to be sitting in on a pitch. The intern finished up the easy fix and rushed to his bosses office with the final product. "Got it done and I sent it to your email, sir."

"Great," he replied. "Clients will be here in a few minutes. Get the conference room ready with waters."

The advertising intern nodded his head and did as he was ordered. Sam had finished up preparing the conference room and made his way back to his desk. He saw that his phone was blinking and noticed another he had gotten another text. It was from Nat this time.

From: Group-Wife
Think you can do a favor for the birthday girl? :D

He thought for a second, wondering what she needed, before he replied:

To: Group-Wife
Anything, what's up?

Sending his response he went on and finished up his text to Tas.

To: Doctor Hottie
Can't wait to hear about it. And I'm hoping to make it, can't miss out on all the fun!

"Let's go Sam! Eric shouted from the conference room. "Clients are on the elevator.

Setting his phone down yet again he felt a rush. The blood in his veins pumped as the adrenaline kicked in. Even though he wasn't the one presenting, it was just exciting enough to be in the room when the pitch went down. It was going to be his turn one day, and that day was going to come soon.
