Of Retainer, Throne, and Country

Lucius found himself glancing towards his exhausted Al Mayrin companion whilst the shades screeched from above. His injuries and fatigues were more than an average day's engagements in the field, however, he had seen worse. All other incidents had certainly exceeded all his harrowing life threatening encounters and beyond. Movement from behind provoked a weary sword draw only to discover his female companion and a somewhat distraught, albeit emotionless Councillor Gisgo stalk through their location and towards the cellar opening.

β€œBalthazar,” Lucius screamed through pained gasps and coughs, β€œI beg of you! Please ... you must help me lift Onatha. I alone ... I ... I cannot carry her any further."

The shades had begun to quickly fade just as suffocating fumes had begun to descend back downwards and onto the assembled survivors. His face wrinkled as he half limped, half staggered towards Onatha and lifted her arm around his neck. His eyes burned as glanced towards the opening where he found himself staring towards the clouds that had began to engulf the ceiling. They had one chance and one chance only to brave an escape.

"Of course, my liege!"

Balthazar hastened to the Prince's side and made to relieve him of his burden. Gripping his scimitar between his teeth, Balthazar bent down, hoisted Onatha onto his back and resumed his forward march. The smoke grew steadily closer as they carried on, the shades losing power every minute they dallied.

"Do not worry, Prince Lucius! I will carry Onatha! Go with the magi and find us our exit, hurry!"

He coughed softly as the smoke oozed over their heads. They had perhaps minutes to spare before the shades weakened and the fires consumed them all.

Lucius offered an acknowledging, albeit weary grunt and made his way past the several burnt out wooden husks that once resembled wine casks and collapsed shelves littered with shattered bottles and smoldering wood and soured grapes. His vision remained clouded at best, but in desperation and outright anger, the Prince stumbled in the direction Dae, Councillor Gisgo, Uriel, and the other survivors had seemingly poured through. A nagging feeling that screamed of discomfort and vulnerability burned through the back of his mind, however, his fatigued predicament forced his hand in pursuing escape and safety over lingering thoughts of predicated suspicions.
@Doc Doctor

"And it is not often that a barbarian manages to string a whole sentence together."

King Galliard stood his ground at the other end of the forest clearing. His sword was gripped tightly in his hand, his kite shield strapped firmly to the other. Only moments earlier had he and the smelly barbarian stumbled into the same clearing together. Almost instantly a barrier had sprung up around the place, sealing the two inside. It was clear what its intentions were.

Two entered. One left.

"But yes, fight we must. And fight we shall."

He swung his sword around just to remember its weight. Gallant Duty was its name. Light blue runes were carved into its blade, magical yes, but words of wisdom and guidance, not runes of magic. He stood his ground, determined to see the fight through to the last.

"Come then, barbarian. Face me. Today we will fight like true men."
@Lmpkio Done.
@Kasus Cloud Friendo, mayhaps you could wander on over to the Roleplay section of this subforum and have yourself a little introduction down at the Arena Chat Thread!

If you fancy yourself a pretty good fighter and want to get placed in the rankings list, head on over to the Ranking HQ, hit up one of the senior members like Rilla or Skallagrim, ask to be placed within the rankings and voila!

Otherwise, feel free to ask around the chat thread if you're looking for a challenger, sparring partner, what have you.

Hope you enjoy your stay here in the Arena!
@Doc Doctor

We're here.

Our arena is:

The Quiet Forest

The stream is shallow enough to wade through at the wide end, and narrow enough to easily jump over at the thin end. The ground is muddy and moss-covered. Weather conditions will be cloudy for the first 10 posts of the fight, after which it will begin to rain heavily, making footing uneven.

Since you already have that post up in the Black Mountain main thread, I invite you to post that here first and I'll get to a response. Then we can get our fight underway before the due date.

Oh also you can pick where you wanna start. I'll take the other position.
@Dredigan Well I'm done. Hopefully you don't object to the stuff in my post.
"Teret cruiser Excalibur, this is doctor Simon Brewer."

"Doctor, this is Excal, send."

"Have a bit of a situation here. Masreo Corp soldiers seem to be hunting someone. City's under fire. Had to abandon post at Kalan General."

"Understood. Proceed as per normal."

"One other thing."

"Go ahead doctor."

Simon stopped just as the Masreo soldiers retreated from what appeared to be a human male with a stasis capsule in his care. Ahead, a Telth and another human fended off the last of the Corp troopers away from the scene. Without pause, Simon stowed his rifle and lifted the faceplate of his armour as he approached the capsule. Disregarding everything else, he activated the biosign scanners in his palms, knelt down and took to an extended scan of the infant girl beneath the glass and plas-steel.

"I appear to have a young female here too. Hostile Environment Vessel. Approximately...one year of age? Unknown species, will require proper medical scans to verify identity. Does not seem to be of any known species in this sector either. With me are two humans, one Vessegak and one Telth, all male. I am assuming they are the security detail assigned to the female. Broadcasting image capture from optics."

"Understood. Will analyse new information as it comes. Shifting your mission parameters now, doctor. You are to maintain contact with this security detail and assist them wherever needed. If a resupply is required, contact us. We'll see what we can do."

"Roger, Excalibur. Will maintain contact."

With that done, he sighed and stood back up, rifle back in his hands.

"Right then, gentlemen. What say we get this young girl somewhere safer than the middle of a bloody jungle?"
