Hobgoblin Zats
Since he made no progress in energy sensing either as far as he could tell Zats gave up on that as well. He still had no idea if it was impossible or if he was just too distracted, one of the Goblins had briefly been rather loud, though and decided to try it again sometime while hunting.
Part of him kept saying that he should be able to manipulate some kinda outside energy and be able to use magic, but he could he manipulate something he couldn't neven sense. After thinking it over for a bit he came to the conclusion that maybe he was wrong about the outside energy.
Since he was indoors trying out a fire spell would be stupid but he alo wanted something he could show off a little given how long it had already taken him to learn even a simple spell. He looked around a bit and found a loose page lying on the ground. Getting an idea Zats focused on it and tried to make it come to him without touching it.
@Jangel13 So I'm guessing Zats had no succes with either reading or energy sensing?

Hobgoblin Zats
Zats would have enough trouble already figuring out the meaning of the human's writing, even with pictures, if the church was completely silent but several of the goblins were talking to each other about them using rabbit sinew. While he didn't want to discourage them sharing ideas or even just getting to know each other it was still distracting. Part of him wanted to tell them to be quiet but instead he did his best to tune them them out.
Stil it was frustrating and eventually Zats gave up, putting the book on the shelf. "Gah! So much for that." As he wondered what else he could do he remembered that as a goblin he once unsuccessfully tried to sense of trees. He wondered if he failed if it was simply impossible but he doubted that. After all Gravekeepers spirit allowed him to buff himself by using the energy of dead creatures. So maybe plants simply didn't have enough or he was too weak to sense it.
"Well, it's worth a shot." Part of him wondered if the Goblins might still prove to be distracting while another part that them being so energetic might make it easier. Hoping that those two factors would even out Zats closed his eyes and tried to sense the Goblins' energy without interacting with it as he didn't want to accidentally harm them by draining it.
