Hey there.

Before starting, I would just like to say that I have a general interest check titled Edward's Initial Check. There, you can find more information on myself and my writing. If you decide on wanting to contact me, I ask that you please read that first. But allow me to clarify three things upfront: I am looking for a woman to write the female protagonist in our story. Don't contact me if you are under the age of 25. If you do contact me, please do it by PM, not here. Thank you.

There is also an interest check which contains a different single story idea, and it is titled Edward's Single Item. The Duo. So if this story is not entirely to your taste, I urge you to take a look at that one as well.

Additionally, I have another interest check titled "Edward's List", which is comprised of a few plot ideas. Sadly, I'm about as happy with that list as finding a greasy hair in my sandwich, so I'm not going to bother linking that here. It's not that the plots on that list aren't valid, only that I feel my execution of the list was about as appealing as my undignified attempts to stop a certain someone from walking out on me.

This specific story idea, a postapocalyptic romance, came to me while I was walking home with a load of heavy groceries the other day. For now, I've titled the story "She Wears Boots". It is a title that must have made me smile in a weird way. The reason I think it made me smile in a weird way, is because I do that lot. Also because, as I walked across the intersection near my home, my eyes happened to turn toward a woman in her car waiting at the light. She was very distinctly screwing her nose up at me, the same way people do when they witness a lone, smiling weirdo crossing an intersection while hauling far too many grocery bags.

She Wears Boots

Sam was a man tall and strong, with a proportionately large gun, and a decent heart buried deep beneath his hardened exterior. Sam also thought he was special, in a very cursed kind of way, to have been the only human to survive World War III. At least, that seemed to be what the evidence around the ruins of his home town indicated. Not a damn trace of any other living soul to be found. There was, however, a lot of room for error in his assessment. After all, his home town wasn't very big, which automatically minimised the chances of survivor numbers, and it also meant that scavenging provisions from the ruins wasn't exactly fruitful. For the sake of his own survival, he needed to leave, journey the wastelands in search of food, clean water, and the small possibility of discovering other survivors.

It was quite some time after much of earths elements melted in what would have been a very pretty spectacle from space, that Sam set out across the wastelands. Just him and his flannel shirt, jacket and jeans, a shoulder bag and his proportionately large gun travelled for several weeks sifting through the many ruins, scrounging up what previsions may have been left behind, before one day - and rather unexpectedly - he stumbled upon a trail of footprints. More accurately, tracks left behind by a single person wearing a pair of ladies fit boots.

If you wish to discuss this idea further, or any idea of yours or mine - or even just the prospect of any other idea at all, I look forward to chatting with you.

The Duo

A medieval romance.

Back in the middle ages there was a large city located in one of the most terrifying and dreaded provinces in all the lands. All manner of depravity and filth festered and bled into every corner of its existence. The people there, both young and old, those of nobility, commoners and peasants, even the men of the cloth, had in some way or another been corrupted by its evil, like wickedness itself was a mass consciousness breeding in the loins of nearly every soul.

One day, a day not particularly different to any other day, a young homeless woman was taken against her will by a gang of lowlife scum in an unspeakable, brutal act. Then, like so many before her, they left her for dead. The thing is, unlike so many before her, this woman didn't die. Yea, she lived, and in time her flesh healed, her bruises faded, all but scars remained upon her surface. Yet deep within herself the emotional and mental wounds had more difficulty healing. Bitterness gnawed, resentment swelled, and nothing short of vengeance could have cooled the anger that waxed hot in her veins.

For her, there was but one resolve, one way to ever obtain solace, and that was to hunt down and punish the men who had done this to her. But by what manner was a young, single homeless woman meant to achieve such a grandiose task? Despite her pain, she was no fool, she'd require help, the sort of help that only a person with a specific set of skills in hunting men was endowed with. A sellsword, a mercenary, they went by various names, but the one thing they all had in common was that they all required payment for their dark deeds. Which naturally wrought the question; How was she to pay for such services? How was she to convince this type of man to track down a band of scum that may have long since scattered themselves across the land? It was quite the ask, especially from a woman with so little gold to pay.

In the end, it came down to one man. Though most did not call him a man. He was the most dreaded of all. Feared by the most feared. A reputation of pure darkness manifest in the flesh. He was the one that caused evil to cower. The most notorious of all sellswords, and as it were, the one least likely to have given ear to the young woman's plea. It was he who she elicited the services of. And it was them, the duo, that set out to slay the filth of man.

Hello again!

I recently posted my Initial Check, and in it I said I was planning on posting a list of potential story ideas. This is that list.

In case you haven't read my Initial Check, I just want to point out a few things upfront that could be helpful. First, is that I'm a man and I am looking for a woman to write the female protagonist in our story. Second, please do not contact me if you are under the age of 25. If you stand somewhere in the vast field of these two requirements, and you also find yourself interested in writing with me, I ask that you please contact me by PM, not here. Thank you kindly for your understanding.

Exemption Claus #4 (please refer to my Initial Check to view Exemption Clauses 1 through 3): Writing together is not limited to the plots depicted in this post. I am equally happy to play any other story you and I may develop. See two paragraphs ahead for further information on this matter.

Admittedly, I'm a little tardy delivering this list. In my defense, I was held back by people who wanted to RP with me. Right? The audacity. You can imagine the pickle I was in. As you know, there is little to no point in posting an interest check of any sort if you already have a happy number of partners to RP with, and of course, I didn't want to break my promise by not delivering this list. As a result, I had to turn down almost everyone who contacted me :)

I feel compelled to clarify that, sure, I wrote these ideas in a way to make them lucid as my mind used to be, but absolutely none of them are set in a slab of concrete like someone finger doodled in it before it dried. They're still just starter ideas, that's all, and I am happy to fight you hard about any changes to any damn one of them.

I mentioned in my Initial Check that I am starting to get old, yet I am still a young bastard, and also that, according to a certain someone, I am a nice guy - too much of a nice guy to deserve even a semblance of romantic promise in my real life. Well, wouldn't you know it? Now I'm adding Liar to the list of things that I am. Not to be confused with the list I am actually here to write. To explain: I am forced to add liar to my list of traits because in my Initial Check I stated rather clearly that I most enjoy original plots, but guess what? A couple of these plots may not be completely exclusive in originality. I mean yeah, of course I put my own spin on those particular ideas to reduce liars guilt, like any young lying bastard would.

O, and one more thing. In regard to each of these ideas, a great story with romance is intended.

So...here it is, finally:

The List.

Number one, Immortal Love

Far, far back in time, back when the wheel was still a novel idea, and the mentioning of self-raising flour was bound to get you beaten over the head with a club, a man and a woman fell in love. Never had there been a love like theirs among humankind. The heat of their passion and love was so extremely powerful that it begrudged a local witch, who in her spite raised an ancient evil from its slumber to hunt them down and slay them in their bed - and so it did. But this story did not end there, for even though the man and the woman were slain in their bed that fateful night, their love could never die.

Many years later, the man and the woman were reborn. A different time, a different place, but the same souls, brought forth into this world once more. Tethered by their eternal love, guided by the eventful hand of fate, they grew, they lived, they discovered each other again, and again the ancient evil hunted them down and killed them.

Up through the ages, life after life they were born into this world, found each other, loved each other, and were slain each time by an ancient evil.

...As you can imagine, this plot requires that both writers create multiple characters, one for each lifetime this man and woman live. I love the thought of that. Essentially, creating a new identity and a new life in a new era throughout history each time they are reborn, sounds like fun to me.
Number two, Her Town

A man wakes in an unfamiliar bed, next to an unfamiliar woman, in an unfamiliar town, and has no recollection of how he got there. He does, however, have memories of his past, a past he would like to get back to. But how does he get back home? Back to his life?

Your character is the unfamiliar woman of the unfamiliar house. You, my writing partner, are in charge of the twists and turns at your own discretion. I don't want to know until it happens in the story.
Number three, The Fae

Until now, Fae were a thing of fairytales, which is just the way the fae wanted it, for us to believe they don't really exist. But they do.

The truth about faerie kind is far from the way fairytales depict them. Small and glowing winged creatures, they are not. They are powerful as they are sinister. And now, one male faerie, pursued by the guards of the fae realm, passes through the barrier that divides their existence from ours. It is only by sheer chance that the threshold into the human realm opens up in the lounge room of a young woman's home.

Yes, the doorway to the Fae Realm does close behind him. He is trapped in the human realm...for the time being.
Number four, Freedom

It is the age of kings, knights in armour, noblemen and peasants, and throwing buckets of human waste out windows.

A young woman is found guilty of crimes that have her imprisoned in a cell beneath the Royal City, while she awaits execution.

A man, a guard assigned to oversee the prisoners, but also a man with a past that no one could have predicted, finds favour for the female prisoner.

In a short time, attraction for the woman becomes apparent. Will he let her die? Or will he break her free and doom them both to a fugitive fate?

Four is enough for now.

PM me if you're interested! If my reply to your PM is delayed, please don't worry, I will respond as soon as I can.

Ed-
Hello. You may call me Edward, or Ed.

I'm a seasoned writer and role player. According to a certain someone, I'm also a nice guy, which I guess is why I'm all alone now and have time to write this.

This is my initial general information interest check. I'm planning on posting a separate interest check with a list of plot ideas.

I'll say this now in case you decide to contact me before reading all of this interest check, because I admit, reading it all may not be the first thing on your to-do list today:

If you are under 25, please don't contact me. If you don't know that some of what I write here is designed in the hope to be amusing for you, then please don't contact me. But if you do contact me, please do it by PM, not here. Thank you :)

Writing partner.
I am a man, and by the standards of many in their youth, I'm starting to get old. But according to the elderly fellow who pushed by me in the market the other day, I am actually just a young bastard. The main reason I share this anecdote with you is to illustrate my preference in finding a female writing partner who has a compatible amount of maturity. That is not to suggest I'm mature. It is just to suggest the possibility that if you are a lady who the youth don't deem one of their kind anymore, even though the elderly may consider you a young bitch, then perhaps we might get along. Just to clarify, in case the point was lost back at the elderly fellow in the market: As a matter of maintaining a sense of immersion in the RP, I am looking for a woman to write the female protagonist in our story.

Content.
At this spry stage of my interest check, it may be redundant to mention that I am not adverse to mature content. Bad language, sex, violence, gore etc. It's all fine. I am rather open and free to write any of these subject matters. However, I'm not one to abuse these subjects with the overuse of content. Balance really is great. Naturally, I will respect and adhere to my partners preferences in any of these matters. Still, a full menu is, I believe, the best way to indulge. Then again, what would I know, I'm just a young bastard. But also a nice guy, apparently.

Exemption clause #1: The actual story and it's characters are most important and preside over all other content and subject matter in the RP. I am here to write a story with you.

Exemption clause #2: Fun presides over all other aforementioned objectives.

Communication.
It seems like a good time to point out that communication between RP partners, or any partner for that matter, is vital to an enjoyable and successful story. I mean, we don't need to brainstorm every detail of the story or sit around chewing the fat all day long. But I do feel that agreeing on some shit helps. Oh, and of course honesty in collaboration is the best policy. If there is something you need your partner to know, let them know, and if they are a good partner, they will respect and support your position. If they are not a good partner, they are likely to walk out on you for being too nice.... What I'm trying to say, though, is that I might just be that supportive and respectful partner, it just sounded less egotistical to write it the way I did.

For me, knowing that my partner is happy plays a big role in my own happiness, and I do hope for the same or similar perspective from my partner. Just like I hope a certain someone is happier now that she's with that other mean guy.

I also just enjoy a comfortable amount of OOC chat.

Stories.
It goes without saying that insuring both writers are happy is a must. The way I see it is, the happier both writers are, the less chance one of them are going to be abandoned. A story and characters that appeal to both writers is therefore staple.

A good story is a treasure chest with layers upon layers of goodies to discover inside, so collaboration for me can be a matter of being selective. I mean, duh, of course both writers agreeing on where the base plot is headed is often essential before the RP starts, even if that means that they both agree to wing it. But then, knowing every aspect of what is to come is about as thrilling as my hypothetical inamorata spelling out every way she plans on torturing me. There isn't much excitement in knowing every detail of what is to come.

Genres and eras.
On a cold morning when bundled up under the covers of a warm bed, a clean, fresh bedspread is best. Even when a story resembles some other known literature, a fresh take on it is preferred. I only write stories, and characters for that matter, under the guise of originality. I say "under the guise" because at this stage in history it is mighty hard to create a plot that has never been tapped in any aspect before. I always lean toward originality, though. Creating is one of my favourite things.

To be more specific, I have no apparent interest to write a fandom or any pre-existing TV, book or motion picture series. I will most likely never write something less than naturalistic, either, and so cartoons and any animation-style roleplay is not in the cookie jar.

Aside from those aspects, I pretty much enjoy most genres, be them set in history, present day, or the future.

Characters.
Good characters really are born, aren't they? They grow and they develop as the story progresses. After all, impregnating your own brain with the seed of a character is, and should be, a joy. I'll hazard a guess and say that most writers write characters that they enjoy writing, but I personally like to ensure that my partner will like my character as well. Did you know that both are possible? I didn't until she was gone. That said, a discussion on basic tastes and a subsequent brief depiction of a character should be ample understanding for the story to start with.

Like genres and eras, I enjoy original characters. I don't think I have ever written an existing or pre-existing real life person or celebrity. Neither have I ever written or consciously reworked someone else's character creation. I adore creating my own.

By the way, if it feels like I'm rambling on for too long, that is just because I am. Like most lonely young bastards advancing in years, I haven't yet learned that nobody cares what I have to say.

Exemption clause #3: I change my mind a lot, usually due to thinking of a better idea than that stupid old one I had.

Reply speed and writing quality.
I really don't know what the deal is with needing to know the time zone of a partner for the sake of posting. Unless we are writing a fast-paced freestyle RP, which I assure you I won't, then I doubt either of us are going to plan our real-life schedule around making sure we deliver a post that is conveniently timed for our partner. I think we should just post when we post. That said, if I am ever going to be delayed in posting, I will let my partner know. Basic courtesy between partners and friends.

Hip note: Basic courtesy is a matter of respect in equality amongst humans. I don't ghost people, because that his spineless and rude. See, I've learned form the best, so when I do leave, I tell them I'm leaving then take off before they can get a word in edgewise. Really though, don't leave people hanging and wondering wtf. If you are a writer then how hard could it be to let someone know you don't want to continue? "No" can happen late. We should acknowledge it and move on. Closure is good for mental well being.

Which somehow brings me to my next point. Punctuation, spelling and grammar, even presentation, it is all a matter of basic courtesy. Despite my lack of patience in many things these days, lately I've been learning a lot about making my posts esthetically pleasing using the formatting tools they have on this site, and I'm finding it to be a bit of fun, which doesn't hurt. But anyway, in regards to the actual writing side of it, I don't expect posts to be written perfectly, and my posts won't be perfect either, but delivering a post that is legible because a respectful amount effort was put into it is appreciated.

I haven't actually been able to properly quantify a... Wait, really? Quantify? ...Okay, so, I haven't actually been able to properly quantify a "specific" distinction between casual and advanced. At this stage, I'm just leaning towards the difference being more of a quality thing than a length-of-post thing. In that regard, I'd say my RP writing would be upper casual class? That's right, I'm not sure, but still classy. I consider myself well written and experienced, somewhat. In case this interest check didn't already ring that bell, my posts can be on the lengthy side sometimes ;). As for what I do expect from my partner, a few good paragraphs to work from is enough.

Yes, I know that this post is a little lengthy. That is because, ironically, I believe in quality over quantity, and that goes with post length as well as the number of writing partners I have. I prefer to have a smaller number of awesome partners to write with, rather than a bunch of unstable sideshows. Which is why I think putting a meaty dose of effort into my initial interest check might be worthwhile.

Thank you for reading, and even more thanks to those who read it all.

PM me if you'd like to chat.
