Maybe I'll play Cyberpunk 2077 some more. My brother maxed out my character a year and a half ago. Haven't seen him since. Miss him.

”Mr. Dawson, why don't you have a seat?” He said, gesturing to the brown leather chair he had his hand resting on.

The men behind Adel stepped forward. They each placed a firm hand around his upper arms, half-guiding, half-dragging Adel to the seat. If Adel struggled in any way, their plan would have been quickly subduing him with a blow to the cheek - but besides tensing up, the man didn’t fight.

They shoved Adel into the seat, twisting it so it faced the mirror. Vincent still had that smirk on his face as he picked up a bowl of shaving cream and an applicator brush on the counter.

Slowly, methodically, Vincent applied shaving cream to Adel's face while speaking.

”Now, my men tell me that you and your spies have decided to make it your home in White Pine. Not that I care too much about that.”

He set down the bowl, picking out a barber's blade instead. He opened it, the fresh gleam of a clean, sharp blade within.

“What I really care about, though, is who set you up to do this.”

The blade pressed against Adel's neck as Vincent leaned over, staring at the man through the mirror.

”So, what'll it be, Canary? You gonna sing?”

Nocturnal Memoirs (2024)

"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Is there anything you guys want to talk about around the fire? We can ask each other whatever questions we want, we have the time. ^^
Cora noticed when Will tensed up, and she assumed the reason behind it was as twisted as hers. He had lost his own brother in that fight. Family. She felt guilty, partially responsible. Hind-sight is always 20/20, but how blind was she really only days before? Leaning over, Cora gently put her hand on Will's knee, locking their eyes in a meaningful glance.

The choices were just flying through Yahtzee's mind, the changes in his eyes were evident. He was extremely focused during her little speech, she could see he understood the gravity of what she asked. Will agreed on her last note, flashing Cora a warm look. "Very grateful."

Yahtzee spent about three minutes in deep thought, all the while the fire pit was quiet. They patiently waited as Yahtzee hopefully gained an insight, discovering how he truly felt. And with almost a minute and a half left, he made up his mind. "I might not be able to fight as well as you people can but I will do my best."

He glanced at her, determination in his voice. "For life."

Cora absorbed his level gaze, returning a sober one of her own. After a few moments she was satisfied with whatever she saw, and smiled. Her gaze flickered to the fire, then around their humble circle. "That sounds like a true Hygron to me. May I formally welcome you to Nature's Haven, Guardian."

She snapped her fingers, half-grinning. "Ah yes. Now, I don't know if you pieced it together yet, but Hygrons are gifted with one of ten elements. These are Darkness, Light, Air, Water, Fire, Earth, Lightning, Flora, Metal -- and my own, Ice. Will, he's of the Water element, and Phil's is Light."

Cora was quiet for a moment, staring off into the fire before an idea dawned behind her eyes. "How about a toast? I'm sure everyone's thirsty." She drew ice from the air, creating four thin, translucent glasses of reflective ice. The glasses hovered above her open palm, slowly rotating in suspended gravity.

Glancing at Will, she gestured to the glasses. "Would you mind filling these?" After he did the glasses would drift around the circle.

She raised her own cup. "To... the Elementals. By the hand of Kyra, may we see our mission to its imperative end. And may we see those we've lost again, after leaving a world green and life-bearing once more. Cheers." The water washed down her dry throat, and she finished the glass in seconds. Ignoring thirst long enough made her forget how parched her lips were.

"Did anyone else want to toast for us? I could use another glass, I'm so thirsty." Cora laughed, rubbing the back of her head.
Posted! It's a long gooder too, I think I explained things quite eloquently. =w=

Looking forward to those posts, Urukhai and Ginger~

@Empire:

Aw, it's a shame you're leaving us. But it's all good, have fun in your next roleplaying adventure. Our doors are always open.
"He's a cute anti-social asshole, though." Cora lifted her head, watching as Toran flew out the cave in a huff. The dragon on the floor, Salamander, barely reacted to the whole situation. Yahtzee further demonstrated this lack of damns given when he rolled the beast over. Cora tried too, curiously poking the dragon's side. He squirmed, but was quickly still again.

Cora ruffled her messy chocolate hair, seeing the distress in their newcomer's eyes. Behind her placid face she winced. He looked as though someone slapped him in the face with a bag of bricks. Which he might as well have been. She remembered the night Wolgran explained it to them for the first time, and her whole world had been ripped to pieces. But she had come to terms with it; adaptability was survival in this age. She had come to accept the fact that Kyra had given her an icy gift, and a guaranteed power-struggle against 'nothing' in an effort to save their solar system from goddamn aliens.

So why can't I accept they're dead? Why does it hurt so? Cora glanced down, already answering her own question. The other elementals, her friends. Dead. She felt responsible. Her actions were directly tied to their disappearance. That's why the cuffs had remained around her wrists after all. But, looking at them now, maybe two was over-doing it. One cuff would do fine. Plenty reminder there.

Cora flash froze the right cuff, breaking pieces off and tossing them into the fire pit. It was the poor timing of Yahtzee that he sat down, saying with a grin: "You guys are freaks."

Instantly she saw a vivid image of her lover in her head, the horrified look etched in his face, the curl of his lip as he withdrew in disgust. His eyes couldn't even look at her, he stared off to the side. The rejection hurt beyond words. It did then, it did now.

"...You don't know what you say." Cora said, crestfallen. Her voice wavered, speaking with raw emotion. "There is more pain here than you can begin to fathom, my friend.

"Let me tell you first about this place. You have the right to be fascinated so. It was once a garden of life, housing a spirit that watched o'er its eternal fires. We knew him as Wolgran, an enigmatic old soul who fed us, sat us around this very fire pit, and told us the truth.

"Now, the truth I'll get into. First you should know about where your powers come from. The pull you feel toward this place, this sense of oneness felt here, that is from Kyra. She goes by many names, Earth, Gaia, Mother Nature. She created these safe havens as the last reserves of nature, hidden away so that only the worthy may tread in its lush embrace. The worthy would be those not only gifted, but also listened to the summonings of Kyra -- that's us. The Guardians of Nature. It's not something you choose, it's who you are. It's why you're here, Yahtzee.

"Does that mean there are rouge Elementals? Perhaps, but not likely. They are not the enemy Kyra needs saving from. Look at the world around you, the trash that piles the wasteland like skyscrapers. She's dying. Our world is under attack, it's losing, and the enemy has been here, slowly killing us since the beginning of humanity.

"They are from another world where nothing is beautiful. The aliens -- also known as Vygorn -- are ruthless on their assault of life. They leave black holes in their wake, and they devour planets as they go. They've been working with us for a very long time, and are about to pull the plug. Vrail, their leader, plans to turn our sun into a black hole so powerful it would consume our entire solar system.

"The Elementals, due to desperate measures, went toe-to-toe with those alien bastards earlier today. We entered the fight with almost a complete set of elements. And out of the group of Shida, Thema, Gilfred, Aerilyn, Beau, Phil, Will, and myself... What you see is all that remains. It pains me greatly... Wearing this cuff on my left wrist reminds me of their... Goddamn sacrifice.

"Yahtzee, I won't lie to you. Facing us is a shit storm. I thought we were in the storm but I realize this is only the beginning. It's gonna be intense, it's going to be hard, but,"
Cora sat up straight, gazing dead straight into Yahtzee's soul. She was incredibly serious in the severity of their situation. "We need your help, unlike anyone has ever needed someone in the history of the planet. We need it."

She narrowed her eyes, taking on a very no-bullshit demeanor. "But I need to know you're not sitting on the fence with this. I need to know we can count on you, I need to know we have your commitment. If you're not interested, all you have to do is get up and leave. No pressure.

"If it takes you longer than five minutes to make up your mind, this isn't for you. But I have a feeling you've already made up your mind, somewhere in the back of your head you know this is the right path. We..."
Cora glanced at Phil and Will, feeling very unified with them in their little group. A glowing smile crossed her face. "Would be grateful to have you with us."
That's fine, just quickly write up another character you think you'd be more intune with, and put 'er in the deposit. Don't worry about length. Just do whatever you need, Empire. :p

@Ginger: You posting today? Cuz I am. XD
Woot, moving forward again~!
When Dana and Theresa excused themselves to make a revealio of their own personalized suits, Aislin was as always, curious. Of course, it was only in the absence of the two older ladies that she noticed one extra (Poppy) in their group. She had fiery hair and the brightest of emerald eyes, and Aislin questioned again how she missed such a vibrant person. "I'm so sorry, I didn't notice you earlier. I'm Aislin." She said, flashing an apologetic grin.

Damn, someone cue the slow-mo. Aislin watched with a wolfish smile as Dana and Theresa rolled back up to their group, and in her mind they were slowed right down. Dana's cape ebbed and flowed like a vampire. Or a villain. And it immediately looked larger than life slowed down, especially with black being the prominent colour. The hoods really brought out the best in the overall design, though Aislin couldn't fathom the need for such obscurity. Theresa walked slow-mo behind her, touting a shiny purple suit that extended up to the bridge of her nose. Her eyes blinked slowly, glancing to the side just like the Hollywood people. A sleek gas mask was integrated into her suit, and it glinted under the fluorescent lights.

"Damn, ladies. I'll admit it, you got some serious style. I'm diggin' the cape thing." Aislin laughed, keeping the epic moment to herself. Time went back to its regular speed.

"Ah, no I haven't met Theresa yet, thank you." She nodded at Dana, then glanced up as Theresa continued her introduction. Something struck her as funny with the lady. She didn't quite look like a lady, and the tone of her voice had that hint of masculine vibration in it. It was difficult to pick up, but she seemed transgendered, and very comfortable with herself. It was about time this school had some real diversity.

"The pleasure is all mine, and I get what you mean. I'd personally like to be out exploring the jungle. But you mentioned regeneration, is it something airborne?" Said Aislin, gesturing to Theresa's mask.

A teacher flipping off a student? Well, Aislin supposed there were new things to discover every day in this lovely school of 218. She hadn't considered it in the characteristics of Henry, but she guessed she had to add 'knows how to make fun of assholes' to her mental image of the reptilian. Consequently, she couldn't stop giggling at the whole picture.

Adam's explanation for powers, rating, all the basics for their classifications made sense to Aislin. She had looked into it herself before she came here, and personally hated the rating system. Putting a number to a power, especially to those too immature to handle their gifts let it go to their head. "That's a pretty good number, Professor. I'm not the 10 either, and that's fine. Honestly, it's to their better interest that no one knows. Everyone would treat you different over that one factor."

The bear attack was unexpected. It was over so quickly, though, that Aislin barely had time to flinch. The bear wasn't actually a bear, just a Meta with stupidly strong animal instincts that knew how to roar the shit outta everyone. Adam's gust of wind was refreshing, it cleared the air of Amanda's crummy hero act.

Henry's invisibility tactic was bizarre to watch. Aislin would have thought him completely gone if she hadn't been so close to see the subtle difference in his scales and the walls. It messed with her eyes so much she had to look away. "Neat trick."

"... Class is now in session."

Aislin enthusiastically pumped the air. "Yes! Finally!" She stole ahead of their group, turning back to glance at Dana and Theresa. "I've never been so excited in my life. Maybe we'll get to do some show-and-tell~"

Adam gave another speech in the next room, and Aislin immediately lost interest in having the option to spar. She wasn't there for that, not that she knew much of sparring to begin with. Team-building activities and working with their powers sounded far more intriguing. Aislin had never been one for P.E. games, and she automatically wrinkled her nose at the thought of playing Capture the Flag. But the ability to freely use powers might add some entertainment value.

When Adam mentioned the need for a volunteer, one individual raced to put his hand up. Or rather, his racing flags. Aislin knew she couldn't compete with that kind of preparedness, but she put her hand up anyway. "Oh, me~"
Sounds delicious, Ginger.
I typically post once every 1-3 days, that gives the others enough time to react. There's no set order, you just gotta feel it out and take turns, I guess. Like, it's the four of us talking right now, I'd wait till Will posted before I post again, to stay in flow of conversation.

It's all magical intuition, haha. ;)
Cora sat on one of the logs facing the cave entrance where dying rays of light outside slowly withdrew. She brushed kindling from her black hoodie as Phil attempted lighting the fire pit, using his hand as a conduit for light. It was not to her amusement that Phil burned himself, however she never considered the healing properties of light to flesh, and quickly dismissed her concern. Phil would be fine. Which meant in the future they had a doctor of sorts on their team, if Phil's element did minor healing like that.

Phil worded his question poorly, and Cora wrinkled her nose. Asking it so outright meant one was also addressing the fact none of them had any idea what to do, and all three of them had it in their thoughts for the majority of the day. So asking such a blatant question was pointless. But Cora merely grinded her teeth, glancing at Will as he struggled with an answer. His voice was soft, fluid like his element. It touched the sore parts of Cora, loosening her up. But it was short-lived when she saw a silhouette enter the cave. He seemed almost in a trance-like state in the way he moved forward; she recognized that pull. It was Kyra's summons.

As the figure ducked down, a flame tiger pounded into the cave, running at full tilt. Only to her great disdain of fire did Cora act out of self-defense, encasing her skin in a thin sheet of reflective, fractal-patterned frost. Besides that, she didn't flinch or move a muscle as the flame ignited their fire pit, creating a near-bonfire instantaneously. When Will toppled off his log Cora had to laugh.

"So can I just start with 'Please don't attack me!' and we can take it from there?" Said the stranger as he approached, introducing himself as Yahtzee. She watched his creature with interest, especially when it moved to curl up by the fire.

Cora leaned over to Phil, pointing at the dragon. "Kinda looks like Toran, doesn't it?" Toran was a dragon-type, from the few times she saw the spirit.

A new elemental? But, then... If this was Kyra's doing, Shida... Shida really was dead. Kyra wouldn't send two of the same element. And it was this thought that stopped Cora from being as enthusiastic as Will, even if she echoed his sentiments of having a new element among them.

"I'm Will and this is Phil and Cora. We have powers too just like you. You're what's known as a Hygron, a guardian of nature." Will said, taking the initiative to explain the basics to Yahtzee. Cora frowned. That can't be his actual name, can it? As Will spoke, she slowly felt a sense of pride well up in her chest. He reminded her of Wolgran, speaking with the same love for the elements.

Cora patted the empty log beside her, dispelling her frost skin in a puff of mist. "Come sit with us, Yahtzee. We'll tell you all about the history we've witness in the short time we've come to understand things. To be honest I didn't think Kyra would be sending another Hygron, but I suppose she easily forgives when it means the survival of the earth."

She tilted her head, a half-smirk playing at her lips. "Yahtzee isn't your real name, is it? Where are you from?"

She glanced back at the Water Hygron. "And Will, I like your explanation. Did you want to continue filling this man in?"
