It's exactly as convoluted as we need.

I don't really think so.
<Snipped quote by Unhinged>

What if we travelled through time by some sort of light-related shenanigans to the end of this universe, escape through the dissolving edges of reality, and travelled back through time to our starting point outside of this universe?

That's a little more convoluted than we need.
<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

I don't plan to. Quite the opposite, actually. See, I don't want anyone coming here to look for you. Not letting you return, no matter how we do it, would inevitably leave them to follow your trail here. And the intentions for our policies are, as you may have already guessed, meant to prevent that from happening.

<Snipped quote by Mammalia>

Sounds to me like you have just from the way you've been speaking to me.

<Snipped quote by Mammalia>

In the end, all that does is extend the trail others would follow. It doesn't prevent the trail from being created in the first place.

So you're letting us go?
<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

So, I'd be willing to bet that they'd do anything to find you and bring you home once they know something is amiss. Is this also true?

You can't use us as ransoms.
<Snipped quote by Unhinged>

That is slightly unexpected but not entirely unwelcome.

You can say that again.

<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

<Snipped quote by Mammalia>

Let me explain. I've encountered similar enough situations before. You are from off world. You have people out there who care for you, yes?

I would. Yes, we do.
<Snipped quote by Mammalia>

<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

Then as long as you understand point one, let me iterate point two. I understand several reasons why we cannot punish you, period. So you will not be. At least, not in Dester Cor.

What now?
<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

Yeah. That's what I'm saying. It's a bug that I only ever hear you mention, as I've never had it, nor have I heard the rest of us ever mention it.

I think it's possible that it's because I'm often logged in on more than one device—however, that doesn't necessarily cover all the strange behavior. I think it's exclusively on my phone, so it might be something with my version of Safari. It could be caching an old version of the page for no reason, I guess; Safari is super buggy, so I wouldn't put it past it.
<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

I know the parallel. Point is, no matter the circumstances, such a thing usually carries immense weight. Far more than any punishment for a crime our race has ever implemented. Whether it was done accidentally, or "for the greater good", or any combination of things, Is this point clear?

To an extent, I suppose, but if you liken the scenario to incredibly serious trespassing, doing so unintentionally is forgiven, or at least not considered criminal in most non-corrupt legal systems.
<Snipped quote by Mammalia>

<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

It's worse! We take the endangerment of our people very seriously. Even accidentally, it is far worse than murder.

That, er, isn't exactly the parallel I was trying to make.
<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

It's not that I don't believe you (Seriously, I do believe you) but you've had it mess up like this several times before while nothing like it has ever actually happened to me.

I think I might be misunderstanding the second sentence. Are you saying that this isn't the first time this has happened to me while it's never happened to you? If so, I agree; it's almost certainly a problem on my end, but it's so inconsistent that I don't really have a way to debug it.
