The being's hand lit with fire and, putting them together, shot a large jet of continuous flames at him. Dark, crazed spirits began to float behind the being making it quite clear that his opponent was a being of death. Leval smiled, 'If it's a spirit of death, I wonder how it fares dealing with spirits of Life?' As the flames rapidly approached, Leval called out to Ash and Cinder still resting underneath his cloak. They fluttered their wings in acknowledgement.

Leval waited for the last possible moment, feeling his face begin to singe, before starting to swing forward. Relying on the flames themselves to help mask his dissappearance, he teleported behind the being swing already underway. Leval was aiming for the creatures upper chest area where human's kept their hearts, the area now exposed as the creature had raised both its arms for its flames. Around him, Ash and Cinder fluttered around spreading their healing magic. Leval hoped that the presence of their Life magic would help ward the dark spirits away from him. He pulse pounded as he prayed that the blow would connect.

The dark being rose up from the grave covered in some sort of writing that he could not understand. It spoke with a dark tone that sent a shiver down his spine, and then sent a wave of powerful magical energy pushing against Leval's body trying to send him flying away from the grave. Only the fact that he had plunged his staff deep into the dirt below prevented him from being pushed back from the grave. He clung to it feeling his legs slip out from underneath him from the sheer wave of power. As soon as the wave had passed over him, he got his feet underneath him and pulled his staff from the ground. He extended the apex of the sharped hook of his staff- pushing it outward forming a somewhat crude, but usable scythe blade. He put the blade behind himself readying for an attack, but leaving himself open, baiting for another attack.

Leval followed the Kitsune through the maze until they came upon a lone grave in the middle of the field. The Kitsune held her tails up, obviously a motion to stop. Leval looked around the field, 'Apparently we have reached our destination.' He watched carefully as the Kitsune scratched another message into the earth. 'Kill the embodiment of the Curse huh?' The Kitsune looked from him to the grave, tension clear from her posture. Leval nodded slowly, getting the message. He walked to the grave and stood atop it, placing his staff before him. With one final glance at the Kitsune to ensure he was correct, he plunged the sharpened end of his staff extending it through the grave dirt towards whatever may have resided in its depths.

Leval nodded at the message the Kitsune had left written into the earth. "Alright, lead the way I trust you." He followed behind the fox. He knew no other way to find a clue to Shela's location and the Kitsune had not lead him wrong.

Leval looked over at the kitsune with glazed eyes, then turned his head away to resume his wallowing. As he moved his head back, he spotted something partially covered by the hedge leaves on the ground. He rose and plodded over to it, picking it off the ground and pushing the leafy debris off of it. It was the stuffed beaver that Shela had taken to the academy with her, "Bandit" she had called it. The numbing cloud of guilt vanished as anger burnt it to a cinder. 'The masked man said 'heal,' so she is still alive. I do not have time to be moping around when I need to find her. That bastard fooled me. His powers were just like Arkan's could it have been him? It's possible, but I can't be certain just yet. I need more evidence.' He walked back over to his staff and picked it up. He stared at it for a long time, before wiping his weapon clean with his cloak. Then he smacked the blunt part of the staff against his forehead, splitting the skin, but he felt himself get back in control of himself. "Never again. Never again. Shela, I swear I will find you."

He turned back to the kitsune and a softer expression came over his face. He knelt down before it. "I am sorry. I do not know any magic that can remove your curse. The best I can do is veil you under another image if you choose. I promise to you too, I will find a way to help you." He straightened up and began to run following the kitsune down the maze.

Alexandros

@Aspen Wren
Alex met the eyes of the flaming being and knew at once that he had been entirely wrong about what being was. It was clearly no spirit or sign, but a being in its own right, sentient, intelligent, and beautiful to behold. There was a sense of familiarity to the being as well, a sense of solidarity that had never felt coming from another person he had ever met. Alex had only recently come into contact with the supernatural world and had never met one of his own kind before though the thought had delighted him. Alex wondered if he was fortunate enough to have met one of his own people first at the Academy. More importantly, Alex saw that the being had accepted his challenge, pushing forward past him with a great jolt of acceleration. Alex heard a yip and glanced back at the hyena, now struggling to keep up with the pair. Grinning from ear to ear, Alex began to sprint as well taking a few moments to catch up to the being's speed, now bathed in a radiant sphere of fire. Slowly he began to move past the being as the they raced through the forest. Alex could feel the path beneath him, giving strength and power to his legs, while the aura of yellow energy surrounding his feet began to slowly make its way up his shin.

Alex let out a wild whoop of exultation. To simply have the opportunity to be challenged like this had made the entire journey to this academy worth it. However, something strange was happening by the other being. It was a similar feeling when the hyena and leopard had first noticed him. It was as though there had been some kind of communication, but he had heard no words. He had once survived by taking tourists from all around the world to see certain sights, running them around the area with his bare feet understanding them all. But this was different, Alex knew that they were communicating somehow but it seemed almost... muffled? It was a conversation made up of words that he could not perceive. Earlier he had shrugged it off as just a strange fluke but now it was clearly deliberate. The other Gifted, for he was sure now that the being was a Gifted, was quite deliberately communicating with something. Alex glanced behind him to see if the hyena had kept up, before looking forward just in time to see several birds had dived into this oncoming path! Alex let out a gasp of surprise and spun out of their way, losing some of his speed as he avoided running into the creatures.

Somewhat bewildered, Alex wildly looked around him. The forest seemed to be almost coming to life. Sounds of animals moving, chittering, and even growling could be heard around the forest. Alex felt something hit against his head and peered up at the trees, one hand blocking the sun from his eyes. Squirrels had begun to drop things down on the path below them lined up on near every branch on the trail. Leval let out another laugh, realizing what must have occurred and impressed at the ability. Not to be outdone, Alex rocketed past the squirrels keeping his eyes up, moving around the small pieces of nuts and bark falling down towards him. However, three deer moved onto the path blocking the him from moving forward. There was no space in the tight treeline to run around them, so Alex leapt forward barely passing over their quickly lowered legs and found that the path apparently took a turn he had been able to see. Instead of continuing on the path as he intended, Alex found himself flattened against a tree up against the path's turn. The protective aura coming from his legs vanished and he slowly slid down the tree and fell right onto his back.

Alex blinked several times before letting out an unrestrained belly laugh towards the hint of blue sky peeking through between the trees. He checked in on Rush and found him to entirely Rush-like, irritated that his ride had stopped moving. He raised his hand up and called out, "This one is yours!" He rolled over into a cross-legged sitting position watching the flaming leopard which had been following close behind him approach, still moving quickly. "But I am certain to win next time." He gave the Gifted a warm smile. Alex was entirely uncertain as to whether or not he had ever had more fun. "I am Alexandros, or Alex, or Hey You! Any of the three are likely to work. And who might you be?" Absentmindedly, he pulled some of the acorns and twigs out of his hair.

“Yeah well I’d feel a lot better about it if I didn’t have to take a cocktail of vile drugs every morning”

Erik nodded, glancing down at his own pill cup. "I know that feeling, I think they change mine every few days- the colors are always different." He looked back up as Michael began to pester him about the answer to a riddle. Erik stared at him, trying to remember what he was talking about, then decided that it was not a good use of his precious brainpower. He put a smile on and said "Yes! You got it! That is absolutely correct!" Erik wasn't particularly certain what riddle he had originally told the strange boy, but he was still feeling upset over the day's early events that had so embarrassed him. 'Still it's not like I did anything wrong, in fact overall I think my performance was still quite good enough to leave a suitable impression.' Pleased at his own counsel, he rose and began walking to class, popping a grape into his mouth. Teres walked near him, but looked somewhat unsteady on her feet.

They entered class and as Erik had predicted, the lectures were extraordinarily dull. Erik passed the time meticulously cleaning his nails, and occasionally glancing over at Teres, who seemed genuinely ill at this point. Erik's session with Dr. Gil was early today, intersecting with snack time. His stomach growled at him, not satisfied with the handful of food he had given it this morning. Erik ignored the sounds of hunger, he knew his body could survive almost anything he threw at it. He entered Dr. Gill's small office and lowered himself onto the couch with a plop, looking bored and disinterested. Nothing new would happen during this session. Dr. Gill would go over his progress at reaching his "therapy goals," ask about his medications, and try to glean more information about Erik's personal life no doubt squirreling it all away to write an "tell-all" novel once Erik made it big. Erik answered without paying too much attention to the questions staring at the degrees Dr. Gill had on the wall, judging the schools listed on the various degrees and certificates.

"By the way, Erik I am told that you all had a very interesting breakfast this morning." Dr. Gill pushed his glasses up the ridge of his nose gazing at Erik inquisitively. "I would like to hear more about it from you."

Erik raised an eyebrow, this was a slight deviation from there normal sessions. Absently he wondered if he could finally gain some credibility with the therapist, possibly accelerating his exit from this place. "Well, honestly, there isn't that much to it. Teres joined us this morning. Calla needed some help eating and Maddy got a bit upset." He shrugged his shoulders trying to project modesty and humility. 'Go on, admit that you are impressed with my progress.' Dr. Gill, however, simply nodded and wrote another note on his damned clipboard, giving Erik nothing. The rest of the session continued as normal.

Erik went back to class and listened dully to mind numbing lecturer. There was nothing here that he had not been able to teach himself in 20 minutes outside of this prison house. It was as though the group home staff expected him to have the intelligence of a four year old, an insult. The day passed, Teres went out to her own session then came back later. He noticed a new scent of perfume waft through the air as she passed. He nodded appreciatively. Erik too had often run back to his room to correct some failing in his clothing or simply to ensure that he was perfect in the mirror. The day droned on till classes were done. The rest of the group slowly began filing out of the class. He felt a light touch against his arm and looked to see Maddy looking at him in the eyes.

"Can we talk?"

Erik considered for a moment then nodded. He waited for the others to leave the classroom waiting to hear what Maddy had to say for herself.
