Emily Clarke

Emily was ready for her day to be over. She was ready to kick back and chill with the other members of the Project while also learning more about her new abilities. She generally liked everyone else that had been selected, as well as Rohrbach himself, and her time at the lab at the end of each day was one of her favorite times, second only to her personal Netflix time. Though, she had to admit, eating at the Dining Hall's Chick-fil-A was up there. Starbucks was her morning friend, but Chick-fil-A was the real MVP.

At the moment, though, she didn't have time to really think about food. Granted, she was always thinking about food, but she had to focus on a more pressing issue: she had five minutes to get to Rohrbach's lab. Five minutes, from across campus. Why oh why did my physics class in Brumley have to be right before lab time? she thought as she walked out of her last course of the day. She spotted her bike in the bike rack where she had left it and walked quickly towards it. Soon she had unlocked it, walked it to the curb, put on her helmet, got on, and took off at speed. In truth, she didn't really only have five minutes to get to the lab. She had more like fifteen, but she wanted to arrive ten minutes early as usual and her class had ended a bit late. So she sped through campus, sticking to the roads as she was easily matching the university's Draconian speed limits.

Had Emily timed herself she would have found that she reached the lab in three minutes and 26 seconds. When she got there, she saw the small group of Project members already standing around the entrance. Parking and locking her bike and helmet at the helpfully placed bike rack nearby, she walked over and waved with a grin to the group. Seeing that Eastwood, Penelope and Soleil were already chatting, she turned to Acheri after she saw the Gatorade bottle disappear.

"Nice," she complimented. "That seems to be coming along well, eh?"

Emily enjoyed her new ice abilities very much, but they weren't something you could do much with discreetly like Acheri's dimensional tether. At least, not at the moment. It was one of the reasons she liked coming to the lab so much...she could mess with her powers whenever she wanted when in the company of Rohrbach and the other project members.

Well, fortunately I'm officially in summer so I have a lot more time to work on things like this right now. I will say that the Athalia map probably isn't a fair comparison, because for a long time I couldn't proceed until other people gave me information on their nations/cities/etc., but I see your point. Also I'm a lot more experienced at floorplans, as I've done many (as opposed to zero maps prior to the Athalia map). But if it's one floorplan you can probably just go with what you've got and I can just do whatever to add additional fluff later.

This sounds a lot like my research for next fall. And it's all completely accurate, but (in my opinion) it might be a dose of realism it might be easier to overlook. If the good doc has moved all our characters into the apartments for ease of access, it's easier to assume that he more or less standardized the rooms. Because otherwise we have to go through the extra little bit of mental gymnastics to figure out why college students who signed up for experiments to help pay the bills might be in an expensive floor plan, and the rest might be in a cheaper one.

Just seems a little simpler to more or less standardize. Just my two cents, I don't feel strongly about it.

All good points. I don't feel strongly about anything either, I just figured Roze might want the perspective of someone who is way more familiar with apartments than is probably healthy. Lol. Definitely if Rohrbach is in charge of the living situation it would make sense for him to standardize everything.

Annoyingly long/technical post ahead...

Apartments owned by the college don't necessary still need an RA. I used to live in university apartments which were technically still "campus housing" along with the dorms, but there was no RA or anything, just an office in the center of the building which handled mail, packages, repair requests, etc. Typically university apartments are used by upperclassmen and grad students as an alternative to finding off-campus housing, so they treat you much more like adults than university dorms do.

Every apartment complex I've come across (including the university apartments) has had multiple floorplans available for different price points, including single bedroom units if you want to live alone (and pay more per month) and multiple 2 bedroom options. For example, the apartment complex I will be living in next year has six floorplans, with three one-bedroom and three two-bedroom options. The typical breakdown of floorplans I've seen is:

- Studio (1br/1ba), which is like a dorm room with a kitchen. Cheap, but still not as cheap per person as at least one 2br floorplan.
- 1br/1ba, with a living room, kitchen and separate bedroom/bathroom.
- A bigger 1br/1ba, with an additional room to be used as an office/study.
- 2br/1ba, which is like the rendering you posted.
- 2br/2ba, with one master bedroom (bathroom is accessible without leaving the bedroom) and one normal bedroom (bathroom is right next to the bedroom). This is what I currently live in, and is usually the smallest floorplan for non-upscale complexes that has in-unit laundry (rather than having to go to the communal laundromat).
- A bigger 2br/2ba, with an additional room to be used as an office/study.
- Townhome floor plans, which put the bedrooms on a second floor and can be from 2br/2ba to 4br/2.5ba.

I dunno how detailed you want to get with it, but I've never seen an apartment complex with only one floorplan. I do like that 2br/1ba floorplan rendering you posted though. I'd be happy to sketch out some technical floorplans or use my home design software or something if you'd like. Interestingly enough, the university apartment complex I used to live in had ONLY single-bedroom units. You could pick from a studio and a slightly bigger unit with a separate bedroom, but they were all for one person only.

(I've spent way too much time researching various apartment complexes around town so I know way too much about them. Sorry...)

Since they're apartments and not dorms, I'm assuming this means each person has their own bedroom and bathroom, with a shared living room and kitchen (this is how my apartment is set up). Either way, idk. Depending on when the RP starts, I'd imagine nobody knows anybody else depending on what they're majoring in.

The ballroom you say?

The ballroom she had helped design and decorate (along with much of the campus' adornments)? The ballroom she had a gown waiting in her office to use in?

Yes.

And so, the skylark flipped her hair and made her way back to her office rather than immediately downstairs like everyone else. Throwing open the doors of a certain hutch sitting on one of the walls, Carmen smiled as she beheld a beautiful ballgown that she hand-picked from her collection for such an occasion. Of course, once she wore it she'd have to switch it out with another one...

Naturally, the extravagant strawberry blonde woman didn't realize that probably exactly zero other people on the campus expected an actual ball in the ballroom, with tails and ball gowns and waltzes by Johann Strauss. But she wouldn't have cared even if she did realize it. And so, with the ball gown put on, a matching pair of heels selected, and her sun hat and trumpet donned, Carmen left her office.

Soon she reached the ballroom itself, opening its grand entry doors and walking in. The room seemed like it was setup for exactly the sort of ball Carmen was envisioning, but with several key differences. For one, while the reception tables set against the walls included many high-class treats that Carmen approved of, there were also more...normal...foods for the less ritzy students to enjoy. Things like (ironically enough) Ritz crackers, Cool Ranch Doritos, Oreos, and curious blue candies called Sanics. Second, although there was a stage for performances of waltzes, there was currently a soundsystem set up, with what was presumably a DJ booth front and center. It was currently silent. "Well, that just won't do," Carmen mused to no one in particular as she walked up to the stage. No DJ was in sight, and Carmen wasn't about to let modern party music ruin the setting. So she took our her phone from her purse and plugged it in, and a scant 30 seconds later the sounds of an album of Strauss waltzes lazily drifted across the ballroom. Of course, she wanted to and could have just started playing it herself, but then she wouldn't be able to walk around and sip wine.

Speaking of wine, the skylark soon noticed the beverage table at the opposite end of the room and nonchalantly walked over, where she spotted her favorite red wine. "Ah!" she exclaimed, pouring herself a glass. Although the champagne and cocktails were tempting, wine was a weakness of hers. That said, there was liquor of all types and most of it was not appealing to her (but would be very appealing to the teenagers who just wanted to get drunk). She wondered how Maria had known what Carmen's favorite wine was, and then assumed Lily told her. So she set about sipping it as she admired the glistening chandeliers and waited for more guests to arrive.

Since Cryokinesis will be in the pool anyway, it doesn't matter. Lol.
