Current 10+ years of an RP idea, finally finished, on 10.10.2025. Goodnight Raven Squad, you were the best, wildest, most silly near future SOF RP that lived on the guild, and you got a worthy send off :)

Bio

I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material.

My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. But I'm beginning to push what that RP idea looks like- taking inspiration from lots of media and focussing on the fun, indulgent side of RP, whilst also exploring the lows and emotional side.

Raven Squad is a project over seven years in the making, and focusses on a class-based, eccentric yet half-grounded near future special forces team that acts as a response team where you can't send any special forces team in. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.

Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. Friendships, rivalry, the glamour and even a little political undertone play out in 2094, in a colourful, utopian future that focuses on the fight to take first place.

Then there's Tactical Breach Wizards: Fireteam Hex. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia.

Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.

I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week!

Imran looked over at Dom, as he peered at the crates being unloaded.
"You never disappoint, Don. There's not enough time to set up the killhouse. I have a feeling you're more than comfortable with getting involved in some combat- so just make sure that it's all good for a situation that is a little beyond those means. The reason you're here is because we have pressing matters to get to, and we're a man down- a Heavy in particular, and they come in very short supply these days. Any that we don't have, some tyrannical dictator has already collected as his prize beefcake. Anyway, the thing is, we have some work to do. Some small scale work against Artemis in Santiago, Chile, nothing too significant for us. I'll brief you properly in about four hours or so- get your self accustomed, all your shit setup. We will need you for the foreseeable future, so settle into your new home. And before you ask about money, my word is better than any financier's. I'll leave it at that" Imran said, in a half commanding, half casual voice, as he looked at the crates being taken inside, to where he'd be placed, as he began walking, towards the concrete structure, with the other three.
"Right. Since I gave Svetlana and the new two the chance to become licked up on some combat, I need to get a little logistical support. Antoine, I need you with me- I need to you with me to explain the insertion on our next operation, in Santiago. Howard, help Dom out if he needs anything- otherwise, you two should prep up for urban work. I'll fill you in once we're moving closer- but it might get a little noisy." He said, as he headed in towards the base, aware that it was a lead they had to follow, a loose end relating to what had happened in the Amazon that needed fixing.

(I can RP Antoine here Big, or you can- your call here).

They took the lift down, Imran and Antoine headed to the other Briefing Room, where Imran quickly brought up the interactive map.
"Over here. Look at this." He said, as he flickered over the image, using his two hands to quickly bring it about downwards onto Santiago itself, located within a small suburb of the area. He changed the magnification, as he quickly picked up a small compound.
"This is Mulhacen Heights, one of the highest points atop top the hills that within Santiago, Chile. This, in particular, is what we've identified as the staging point for the raid on the Amazon Facility- a scrapyard located towards the outskirts of the suburb, a pretty abandoned one. Now in particular, this satellite feed, our own mind, has this." He added, zooming closer. It was black pair of blots, but to any skilled operator, especially Imran, you could tell what it was.
"Those mechanized suits. It confirms it. And we want to find whatever intelligence we can. So hence, we're going to conduct a simple operation. It is urban, so it is rather hard to deploy effectively, without getting found out. That said, we will need to make some noise." He added, as he swiped the camera around, bringing up a set of markers.
"We have one of our moles on the ground, scouting it out. It's as busy as it was yesterday. Hiding in fucking plain sight. Jesus. Well, none the less, that is a problem, so dealing with it a little loudly might have to be the case. We'll use an armored truck to reach the entrance, with myself and Domineco within. You'll run inside, find any intelligence before they burn it within the suspected command post- with that fancy new Optical Camouflage of yours making you invisible to all but thermal sensors, and obviously, strong light. Howard stays as our getaway driver. It isn't the best of circumstances, and I understand he is a sniper after all. But the area is right on a peak, and sniping positions aren't likely- he'll need to make sure he can keep our outer position secured, so decking him out in either a little more kevlar, or giving him a little more defensive Anti-Personnel equipment might come into hand. Or both- we need to protect the area around our truck, and unless you think he can keep up with you, he'll have to keep back." Imran said, looking over, as he quickly looked over to Antoine.
"Nothing too big, as I said. Just a simple clear and find intel. If we do encounter anything big however, you know what to do. Domineco has a M242, and that will go through most shades of shit. But probably not any Trophy Systems, so be around if things go to hell. And if you feel like it, commandeer one. Just give us the heads up when and if you find it." He added, as he looked over, a smirk on his face.
"Though I know your approach too well, so I don't expect it. Rest up, go tell the others- I'll brief them properly when our C17 is ready. We'll be there by the evening, to go wreck those bastards." Imran added, disengaging the map, as he looked to her, waiting to see if she had anything to quickly ask.
"If you think that works, go for it." She said, looking over, as she took the rest of her gear, aware that they'd be going. Heading outside, her balaclava up and the only exposed part of her body being her beautiful face, she led the way to the C130, as they we going to head out. She took the rest of her kit, as she led the way to the lift, narrowly avoiding the other team, as they went up. The C130 had been refueled and checked over fast, because by the time that Svetlana, Spectre and Iceman were up, they were getting in the back, and getting ready to go. It was around mid-day, and whilst it had been so far a little bit hectic, Svetlana knew getting into an operational mood would be needed. Sitting down, she put her legs up onto another seat, leaning back as she fell asleep, aware that if Spectre or Iceman decided to come within a meter, her senses would have her up. And anyway, she just knew that they'd succumb to sleep too- it was a long way to go, and two scheduled stops on the way would mean that they'd be up and down in the skies.
Several Hours Later
2200 Hours
Somewhere off the coast of Mumbai, India

The C130 held pattern over the sea, as Svetlana checked the Zodiac's ropes, before she looked to Spectre, in his suit. She cocked the OTS-14, chambering a round, as she put her NVGs down, the rear door opening.
"In you get, Spectre- on the engine! Iceman, you're flying to the Airport- get a taxi, or whatever you can in transport to the sniping position. Stay incognito, and do not raise any profile to yourself- you're simply carrying a case and you look like some foreigner- this city never sleeps, remember." She said, aware that Mumbai was a key cosmopolitan area, and still remained clustered with slums, new buildings and various other areas- though it was crammed and a clusterfuck, even despite that. Slums like Dharavi still made getting across the city hard, but to where Spectre and Svetlana were going, they were headed right for the docks, by which the building was located.

Clambering in, as Spectre got himself settled down, Svetlana sitting in the front, She held onto a handle, as she then reached over, pulling a cable, as she then looked to Iceman.
"Good luck!" She yelled as suddenly, a parachute burst behind the boat, and it was thrown into the air, the cable releasing as the boat was thrown backwards, straight into the Indian Ocean. The rear door of the C130 shut, as Svetlana detached the parachute as soon as they hit the water, with a sudden and hard thud. Her weight was significant, in the front of the boat- even with the engine on, they didn't take a high angle of approach, several hundred kilos of Russian Amazon leaning on the rubber.
Nicely done. That way." She said, checking her NVGs, as she put them down, alongside her balaclava, her beautiful face obscured from view as the stealth mode of the two kicked in. The port could be seen in the distance, sticking out on the Mumbai peninsula, as they had to get close, before then moving up onto land. Hopefully, Iceman would have the crash mat set up in the right place- or Svetlana was going to have to find a way down that didn't involve becoming flatter than a pancake.
Also, while I didn't mention this in James's CS- he is an avid listener to Classic Rock. So expect perhaps Led Zeppelin playing in the back of the LAV.
Should also mention this- that JTAC role is a 2IC (2nd in Command) as well, and has to be American, due to the majority of CAS on hand being US Marine-based. It's stuff like AH-1 SuperCobras, Harriers and other various tools of the trade, that will become specified when eneded.
That's a Joint Terminal Attack Controller, or a Forward Air Observer- or at least a unit that's formed from them I see. Lots of lingo for one role- the TACP is a whole fireteam, I just want an individual. They call the CAS and fire support in general- so they'd work out well if you liked that role.
Or, in short, a Holographic Sight with a magnifying device behind it.

I provided pictures in the hider, as a kinda illumination of what they vaguely look like.

Also ,fair enough- any particular role get you?
Pretty much- that's fine. I mean, it's hard to go for either that, or the scout- the guy going out to find out about the brave new world. Because that sounds a little bit too rounded, whereas a scout would perhaps be more confident in a crazy environment, an explorer of sorts.
This sounds interesting- I really like the idea, and while you've got the engineer taken, I'd happily take the astronaut- the career sort of explorer, though that does overlap with Scout. Probably have a bulkier, yet more exploratory suit- suitable for the EVAs and harshest of climes, also packing a significantly better rebreather system and life support to kinda give it an edge in the farthest reaches. Though I don't know- what would you really like of that sort of character?
Exactly that. I will sort you out my friend. Glad to hear some popularity- and as always, I am craving for a Co-GM. If anyone wants, let me know- since I would like the idea of someone that can help me out in running this RP. I don't mind if people don't get equipment that well, so long as you vaguely know the difference between an M4 and a M240. And you know, while I won't be anal about tactics and maneuvers, what I will say is never, ever go full retard, or Rambo.

James's C8 for example, is a bit different- but it's strange in Canada, how optics work. You can privately buy your own collminators or optics- they provide the C79, as a standard with every rifle, but some soldiers want something more up-front, over flip-up iron sights or the BUIS mounted atop the C79. So hence, the reason that James has gone for the EOTech 552 and a 3XMAG is so that it's a little more dependable in CQC, rather than a fully-fledged rifle- much of which other teams would have. It's an afterthought, and remember- it's out of his own wallet, so I wouldn't expect too many to follow suit in that direction, if you get what I mean (on the Canadian side). I want to stick to that list of weapons, though I know the US Marines have plenty more rifles, such as the M40A5 for Marksmen (which I will stress, is not a sniper, but a designated man in the team to extend their reach), and the recent addition of a "Pointman" role warrants 870 Tactical shotguns in addition to regular rifles in both forces.
Oh yeah, of course. That will be included. There are Americans and Canucks in the same base, for crying out loud. There's Banter aplenty. Any particular role you want out of interest?
Nice, good to see you both- should be good to get the momentum on this going.

Complimentary Bump.
