Current 10+ years of an RP idea, finally finished, on 10.10.2025. Goodnight Raven Squad, you were the best, wildest, most silly near future SOF RP that lived on the guild, and you got a worthy send off :)

Bio

I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material.

My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. But I'm beginning to push what that RP idea looks like- taking inspiration from lots of media and focussing on the fun, indulgent side of RP, whilst also exploring the lows and emotional side.

Raven Squad is a project over seven years in the making, and focusses on a class-based, eccentric yet half-grounded near future special forces team that acts as a response team where you can't send any special forces team in. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.

Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. Friendships, rivalry, the glamour and even a little political undertone play out in 2094, in a colourful, utopian future that focuses on the fight to take first place.

Then there's Tactical Breach Wizards: Fireteam Hex. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia.

Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.

I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week!

Not going to lie, this is playing in my head while I'm interviewing all of you :D . Strangely. Eh, OOC will be up in an hour or so, with a CS sheet. A lot of work will be done to it, so do expect it to evolve.
I've RP'd for over five years, most of which have been spent GM'ing. Lima went on for three years, with many stops yes, but it has been a full circle- start to finish, with a plot, characters, people who have become close to myself in RPing history, and this is something that I would like to replicate- it is ambitious, but with ambition, you need the right people. I have a good idea of what makes an RP of this caliber tick, and I've read into your RPing work- to say the least, it's good, but it's not quite Carling. Queen has stated the point earlier on well, and I have the chance to choose who I want for this RP- so when first appearances suddenly come thick and thin like that, it doesn't help- even if you were the best RPer in the world, I wouldn't know, and that's why everyone else is getting interviews. I know you haven't made a character, it's not that which matters- it's the fact that I had one person, now two with greivences. I respect them because they're very long term RPing partners, so that is also a point I take to factor if I decide I do not like the look of something.

I asked you to really read WHO you're fighting as- operators within a squad, not pilots, nor someone driving a tank. I understand there is much to learn with an RP like this, but it pays to listen to the GM. This isn't a decision I undertook alone, neither, and even if your character doesn't exist, it was not that which pissed me off- it was the way you acted about it. Sorry buddy, but I would say that it's not paranoia if it is justified from past RPs. If you were interested in the concept, you'd have been like everyone else here- and realized what nature of RP and player is involved, which so far, they all do.
Right, I was away for a few hours.

Grim, and to anyone else that rolled up, there is an interview process- so even if you are late, I will be able to go through each of you and see who's in and who isn't.

Speaking of that process, I will be sending it to everyone probably now. I will PM each of you individually, and the OOC will go up soon enough too. The nature of said interview I do not want to disclose here- it is nothing more than a formality, and it is a clearance to make sure that when you tell me that you're in for the long run, you're not saying it just because you can. I do want to make clear, I am a very generous GM and if you're in, you're going to have an awesome time with committed, long-term roleplaying, but the process is there to prevent what you basically hate in other RPs, which is most likely people quitting mid-way through. It's probably going to be more of me getting to know you, if anything- so it's not something I would worry about, and hell, if everyone's really good I'll probably let it all slide if I find I have no reason to stop you :)

Dynamo, I hate to sound like a dickhead, but I think you may need to look at different RPs to this one if that is what you are proposing. You're coming across as someone who wouldn't last a minute in this RP (first impressions count massively, when I've stated the scale of an RP like this and you respond in the way you do)- I have told you prior to perhaps re-read what the style and look of this RP is, and if others want your spot, they will have it- so I have to say that I'm not really looking for your kind of character.
Funny you mention that, I played a GROM character and there was a fellow playing a Spetznaz operator back in Lima. Fairly funny friendship they ended up having, to say the least.

I'm keeping my operator (s) in the dark, mainly because I haven't decided specifics, but there is one Cpt Merlin Bastion is on the cards.
Queen is on the money here. Should mention to everyone, I don't like to have co-GMs, but rather, all involved in the RP do have a share in proposing ideas and helping me out in building the RP. The general gist of the RP is running- but I like to have a dynamic set of RPers to really make it feel alive.

Hmm, rain and wilson, any ideas for characters as of yet?
Aww, alright, I was looking forward to it.

You don't call me for the interview, Rain. I call you (I promise, the interview won't happen after you end up getting snatched off the street and dragged into a van, and then being interrogated in a cold warehouse with men wearing balaclavas and wielding baseball bats..) :D

Lovely to see the support- as far as I have gathered, we also have BigPapaBelilal, SilverwindBlade (a name that you may know, Wilson), and Queen, I'll leave it open for a couple more, before getting the ball rolling (seeing how I feel).
I'll get to work on that front once we come closer to the time- it is not meant as a measure that is meant to ward people off, but rather, to let the right people in- and if you're willing to go through with it, you're probably willing to commit and get involved in a great RP. So yeah :)
Wow, great to see the interest so quick :)

It is quality over quantity, but around once a week, I'm fairly cool if it goes over but I do not like people who drop without letting me know- hence there is an interview process that will be in, just a short PM exchange about getting involved and ideas for the RP that you bring into it. Commitment is key- and actually, if you're interested in the topic, you'll find it a breeze to settle into this RP.

For a change, anything you'd like to know more about the RP itself? Lima is a good start to see what I mean by development- that is only the last third of the RP, so you can see what you might become involved in- definitely a sample of what you might see. It is by no means, ultra-realistic- but do not expect it to be a cake walk neither.

In December 2015, a nuclear detonation rocked the Holmon Islands in Northern Sweden, it's cause unknown, it's source unidentified. Only one fact remained true- the world had seen what could happen if a nuclear device was in the wrong hands, and it's eventual tracing to a terrorist organization by 2017 in the Near East sent the point home. The use of chemical weapons in Grozny in December 2013, and the following terrorist attack which killed a dozen Danish shoppers in Copenhagen, with chemical weapons identified at the scene, suggested that the world had become far more dangerous than many had expected it to be. Conflicts in Syria, Ukraine, Libya, the world over, continued to rage, the fires of Geopolitical struggle continuing, as it had done for centuries before. Yet there was some change to be had.

Support on the topic of dealing with a newly growing terrorist threat, one willing to commit devastating attacks with little remorse in particular against massive civilian targets was resounding at the United Nations, and following the destruction of the dangerous TIAF group within eastern Turkey, popularity grew to continue to work against these resurgent terrorist groups, this including Non-Islamist factions. Russian, European, American influences all had a stake in the new world, one of which now could not sever itself apart, but had to bond to keep the peace. The OECD quietly organized a new specialist Task Force, in the shadows, outside of government influence and interference. Unlike Lima, this was an organization drawing from beyond NATO, hand picking specialists in their fields. The very best men and women, to serve and eliminate the threats of this new breed of terrorism. Task Force Echo was born.

The year is now 2020, and we now join a new breed of Special Forces warrior. Fighting the wars that you don't see on the nightly news, armed with the gear that still sits on drawing boards, putting fear back into the hearts of those who wish to do terrible things to good people. Oh, and with a fairly healthy dose of being pretty badass, I'd say. A group of operators capable of striking back at the very heart of the matter.

Task Force Echo

Task Force Echo is an RP that follows on from the long running Task Force Lima, as a similarly themed special forces military RP, taking influence from a multitude of sources, games and fiction, into a unique roleplaying environment set "five minutes in the future". Sources used range from Medal of Honor to Arma, Ghost Recon to SOCOM and Battlefield as well as other films, real-life events and works of fiction by various authors, this is an RP with a moderately realistic remit, without being an overtly killjoying thread of events. The characters involved would not be linked to the previous RP, so no prior knowledge is even required- but that it acts as a successor in spirit to this RP, being open to all (pending an application and a short interview process).

Set in July 2020, it follows the members of the Task Force, formed of a number of different operators from NATO and non-NATO countries, accountable to the United Nations at the highest level. Their remit? Gather intelligence on, and eliminate high-level global terror threats of whatever nature that might be, within whichever border it may lie. RPers will take up squad members, of different specialties, talents and traits. These are the elite- and can turn the tables where enemy forces may be superior. A strong plot, as well as deep, believable characters, forced to take difficult decisions for their duty, with the core goal of the squad to take down the new threats of the world (though of course, there is always more to this than the surface implies).

It's a military RP, thick and thin- and everything from stealthy infiltration and reconnaissance operations in Yemen, to long range desert patrols in the desertified Aral Sea, to all out urban assaults working with force multipliers. Being set "five minutes into the future", in a not-too-distant reality, expect to see the contemporary use of equipment, weaponry and vehicles, alongside developments that some special forces teams are rumored to have in their possession, or are expected to use. It will require a vague level of military knowledge, but I will not expect anything overkill. And of course, it's a place where RPers are allowed and expected to engage and get involved in the RP, forming and fine tuning the world that they're in.

This is an RP where a level of commitment is expected, however. This is something I will elaborate upon if you raise your hat at this RP, and it's a long-term project. Any interest?
