Current 10+ years of an RP idea, finally finished, on 10.10.2025. Goodnight Raven Squad, you were the best, wildest, most silly near future SOF RP that lived on the guild, and you got a worthy send off :)

Bio

I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material.

My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. But I'm beginning to push what that RP idea looks like- taking inspiration from lots of media and focussing on the fun, indulgent side of RP, whilst also exploring the lows and emotional side.

Raven Squad is a project over seven years in the making, and focusses on a class-based, eccentric yet half-grounded near future special forces team that acts as a response team where you can't send any special forces team in. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.

Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. Friendships, rivalry, the glamour and even a little political undertone play out in 2094, in a colourful, utopian future that focuses on the fight to take first place.

Then there's Tactical Breach Wizards: Fireteam Hex. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia.

Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.

I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week!

I think that Merlin has the greatest fucking name I have ever given a character, at least, one of the best so far that I've done. His full name is Merlin Robert Bastion. I think if that doesn't say anything, I don't know what does. Strong surnames are always fun to play with, it gives gravitas to them, I think. Like Wojtkiewicz, it seems easily yell-able. Nikolaj's, maybe not. Orsted (Holl) is not great.
He was cut off as she kicked him savagely in the groin, pulling her knife out as she smashed him savagely against the wall and plunged the knife into his throat before smashing his now limp body to the ground. “Нет.”

This is what Merlin is like, or at least, it's his mentality a lot more of the time. Lovely.

From what people have said, that's the general trend. So long as it's clear, even a colloquialism will do.
It is quite informal, even Nikolaj isn't going to be 100 percent on the lingo, but if you can come close, then that's usually fine.
You'd lose your shit at me. I am fucking hopeless sometimes. But give me a break, I write thousands of words daily for essays, I can afford to have discrepancies here and there when I'm making a motherfucking narrative :D It is mostly good, but I leave gaps on occasion...and edit away.
Hmm...yeah. Probably, I would say it's large enough for ammo and probably ONE spare gun, but not a shitload of stuff. It's basically been put aside for Echo amongst the raid force, so throughout the hour of get in, drive to a place, get out, kill people, find no PETN, get back in, drive somewhere else, they haven't lost too much momentum. It's kind of a search and destroy type operation, so I can't imagine why not. The way I have written it is that they are going straight back to one of those peaks on the seismograph, but within say, three to four post cycles, it might have died down again.

But seriously, it is quite a mixed operation, so for this one, I'll probably let it slide, as they're involved in both mid and short range combat.
I don't want everyone wielding shotguns, but carbines, rifles, SMGs, they're preferable to marksmen rifles at this point in time- think that the team have been fighting through the streets prior to this, and this is the tightest it will get, so they're now using their close-in stuff.
Yep. I will say right now, that wasn't as great as I have wanted it to be (so hence why you have probably seen edits throughout, where I have gone "Fuck, I really wanted to do this a bit more"), but I thought I'd do it early as I've realized that tomorrow, I will NOT be able to write shit, nor for Thursday and Friday either (maybe Friday, maybe). Nor Saturday or Sunday, due to work. So right now, I'm basically starting the whole RP, and you guys can begin your responses, as I know you have been waiting. I want to shift you away from your chat about boobs (as wonderfully comfy as it was :D ), so yep, there we are! I will say that this is the tail-end of an operation, and it's going to be basically last sort of assault work, in and among a really hectic raid, no marksmen loadouts I would say, at the most medium-range stuff for maximum distance whilst having lots of CQC type things- not full shotguns, but the assault or heavier end of your loadouts. I will have all characters doing stuff, as they begin to clear out the partially destroyed apartment block, delegated through Nikolaj to them. Think concrete, most of the inside is gutted and most walls are pretty much gone, bar a few. Lots of insurgents, breaching, and general shock and awe type stuff.
Also, before you post in IC. Like this post to prove you read that, please?

IC is up! Okay, so to clear up what is going on:

EVERYONE is in Somalia, bar Merlin/Olivia.

Out of those people, you are under Nikolaj's command. He leads Echo in the field there at the moment.

Under that, there are Fireteams Red (Nikolaj's team) and Fireteam Blue, led by Volkov (Monochromatic). This is a temporary arrangement- a 2IC of a 2IC, it won't stick for good. It's basically an all out assault on a low level apartment block on the coast, most of which has been destroyed, walls and shit coming apart if you can sort of imagine. It's heavier sort of loadouts for breaching and close in warfare, and everyone is going to see shit happen.
