Bio
I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material.
My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. But I'm beginning to push what that RP idea looks like- taking inspiration from lots of media and focussing on the fun, indulgent side of RP, whilst also exploring the lows and emotional side.
Raven Squad is a project over seven years in the making, and focusses on a class-based, eccentric yet half-grounded near future special forces team that acts as a response team where you can't send any special forces team in. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.
Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. Friendships, rivalry, the glamour and even a little political undertone play out in 2094, in a colourful, utopian future that focuses on the fight to take first place.
Then there's Tactical Breach Wizards: Fireteam Hex. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia.
Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.
I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week!
Nikolaj looked over to the rest of the team, nodding to Dima's request, as he looked over. "We blow it up. Splendid, I suggest we all get fucking moving, nobody who isn't qualified to handle copious amounts of explosives is to get the fuck out of the building. Blue, Red, rally up on me, unless you happen to be Ungern or Crowstep, we are leaving this shithole, this is exactly what we came for." The First Sergeant added, as he gave the order, waiting for Volkov to muster her men, before going thorugh the door. Rifle raised, they moved slowly, Nikolaj keepng the point as they headed back out of the building through the same route that they entered.
Moving out of the building, Nikolaj knew the other team was following out, as he set up a position, taking a knee as he let MSgt Volkov take her fireteam through, letting his fireteam cover as they kept an eye on the end of the road, as Nikolaj stood up, looking around to his team, before then continuing on, bounding and moving up the road, in Volkov's stead. He kept his F2000 raised high, scanning the area as he pushed forward, aware that there was still a lot of tension to be had. For now, they hadn't run into any enemy forces, and rather, they had withdrawn as quickly as they had entered, this time without guns blazing and all hell raining down around them.
Finding a semi-sheltered position down the road, a number of Dutch forces were also rallying around at this point, Sgt Jansen's team included. Nikolaj looked over, the Viking parked up, alongside some of Jansen's men, who were covering the area down the rad. "Okay, let's keep a perimeter, be ready for any surprises. We'll call this our trigger point, nicely found, Sergeant." Nikolaj ordered over the radio, as he looked across the team, looking for a particular Explosives Specialist for what would happen next. He made the remark to the Dutch figure in particular, who was holding by the trailer of the Viking, a M249 mounted up and able to cover down the road for any more forces that might have been in the area. Since they had entered, the noise of conflict had died down- it felt like this town had been swept out hard, and that the forces occupying it had chosen to run rather than fight back, something that hardly surprised Nikolaj. "Dima, if you see no problems, you're clear to detonate, get rid of our PETN." The Dane said, looking across to the Russian soldier, moving up towards a doorway by another damaged building, looking out on the half-destroyed apartment block. "Everyone, I would find a piece of hard cover, we might be outside that blast radius but when it goes off, it's going to kick up some serious dust!" Nikolaj added, over the comms, as he watched Dima get to work on setting the blasting cap. The Techs had run the wire out to here, and now, they had the capability to do some serious boom, from afar. With most of the enemy forces running, it would be a foolhardy and stupid idea to go back in, as Nikolaj provided security from his position, F2000 lowered but up against his shoulder, ready to be raised at the single hint of trouble. Adjsting his Ops Core on his head, he nodded, watching on as he prepared his ears. It was going to be loud, and he put his shemagh up to his nose, knowing that the area would be filled with dust too.
(It's short, but effectively, it gives us an opportunity to revive this RP a little...with a bang. Anyone is free to post, in whatever order, taking in the events of the previous post too if you still haven't posted. If this does not happen by the time I next post, this being roughly a week and a half to two weeks from now, I will assume that you can't keep up- if you have written to me or I know of a reason why you aren't posting, whatever it is then fine, but if not, then I am going to assume the worst.)
As of which, House Boggs, from North Crakelaw, have gone from being just some minor Lords to being the Lords of Craklaw Point, to...well, let's say shit got complicated, there were merchant republic Kings (yes, somehow), and basically, following a short but bloody capture, I now have a Boggsman on the Iron Throne, which will soon be my playable character. From some backwater scum to the top of the food chain, and suprisingly, only the Iron Islanders have a problem with that.
It hasn't moved a lot- and I will be posting tomorrow, as I have said. This is because I know everyone was busy with Christmas- but it takes the piss when nobody has posted in over a week. I don't like it, and it lets a lot of people down who are comitted- so henceforth, I will keep the ball rolling, and it won't even be that long of a post. If anything, it clears the building, and then sets off the beginnings of Part 1. I do want to say, there is not really any post order, just no double-posting or overt posting that moves the RP too fast.
1) How does your character feel about frogs? Why? 2) What would your character consider giving their maester as a gift? Why? 3) What subjects or skills did your character pick up the most easily? What did they have the most difficulty with? 4) Does your character have a favorite vacation spot? What is it? Why?
@kingkonradAy! #falconpuns You know what they say about birds of a feather...
Brilliant. Peregrines are lovely birds, I've had the chance to be up close with one recently. They really are just so majestic, genuinely a marvel to see.
1) Garland doesn't like them, but when you live in a place that has as many flowers and roses as fucking Holland, then you have to kinda get used to the fact that they exist. Probably fine, to be honest, they're there for the gardeners and in the gardens themselves, nothing more, nothing less.
2) Probably a Peregrine of sorts, one that maybe Garland has gotten to grips with, and if he knows that his maester likes Falconry too, he'll give him one of his own. Of course, Ellion still beasts Garland in this field of knowledge- it's merely a hunting tool, not a completely do-it-all master of the sky.
3) His wit, his sharp nature, and his talent at being able to just generally be a charming motherfucker was what he took on quickly, even before being a Lord- decision making, and his chivalry. Rulership was difficult, he has to surround himself in advisors, in people to get shit done, and while he's got a lot to learn, he's making progress down that road the most right now. Showing confidence through that on occasion, but being aware he has to tread carefully.
4)The Arbor, it's an island of wine, and to be honest, it's a fucking Mediterranean-climed island that is away from the world. Not too hot, not cold at all, and while it's green, it's a nice place to be, Garland would prefer it to the sweltering heat of Dorne, or of the cold of the Torrentpeak mountains. Considering how nice Highgarden is already, it's not a bad place to relax anyway, though The Arbor is good to get away from the noise.
Yeah, go on then. Do your worst. I hate to make a reference to your character's liking of birds of prey, but I'll let you put your beak in it :D #falconpuns
The Reach has to store grain considerably and rely on it's harbours, it is far south but it is still affected. The mountains become impassable to Dorne and even the Westerlands I would imagine, but it is pretty well off, it would be a harsh one if the scale of the winter was not anticipated, no doubt.
The second lap kicked in, as he came onto the gravel, spinning around the harpin as the front wheels gripped the tarmac cusp, . Taking the next car ahead, he pulled through on the North Bend, coming into contact a little as he scraped past, back on the straight, and now having to do a lot of catch up. The Mk2 roared, the engine revving hard at almost 9,000 before he threw the stick-shift into fourth, with an epic drift that was half concrete, half gravel, kicking up dirt across a poster as Ross exhaled. The car was moving fast, and with this engine, he knew he had to, bits of the right fender snapped off, the Mk2 a little damaged, to say the least, but still a warhorse that was raging.
The third lap, fourth lap came quick, Ross passing another car, coming back up to 3rd place in the space of the laps, using the tarmac sections to his advantage, finding he was on point in putting the Mk2 Escort around the bends, catching the speed and getting on pace, knowing full well he was now onto the joust that was between Kimberly and Samantha, the other cars still pacing against him, as the orange glow of the sunset began to come down. The weather was awesome, and the track was dry, definitely giving the best grip for rear wheel drive monsters such as these. Going through the start-straight chicane, he was back on the pace, and was right on the back of the two jousting cars, aware that this could all get sticky as they went into the last lap.

Seb smiled back, as he exhaled, the air cold, the pressure decreased, his heart beating confidently, fluttering a little, the butterflies hovering in his stomach. It was a good feeling, as he looked over, looking to the pilot. "Bossman, how much longer?" He asked, as he looked over at him, "Five minutes to our run in!" The pilot replied, as Seb sat back down, moving back through the aircraft, looking out on the horizon, the English channel in view, even France on the very edge of his vision, 15,000 feet feeling more and more like a place that felt normal. He put himself into the zone, shutting his eyes, thinking. Visualizing. How it was going to happen. Green light. Door would open, Seb would move first, onto the camera step, legs and arms shut tight, the wind running hard, as he nodded to Ellie. She would move into her position, right on the door, and then, they would go on the nod. Smoke canisters running, they would set them of seconds before they left, and they would take flight, over the greenery. From 15,000 feet, it was about 3 minutes, 30 seconds of flight, and it was going to be a good one, he thought to himself. Then deployment would come, smoke running from his leg, as they parachuted into the Paddock, and they smirked like bastards. Opening his eyes again, he looked out to Ellie, giving a thumbs up, as he turned his full face to himself. Looking in the visor once more, at his reflection, of his shaven head and his stubble, he turned it back and placed the helmet on, before standing up. "Two minutes!"
