I'll be reprising my namesake. Unfortunately, my friends just called up and asked me to see Ready Player One... But he had a pokebattle to get to so we have to leave now now now.

Damn that sounds like a cool life. I miss my teenage years :(
@Ruby Which section of the guild do mods spend most of their time 'watching'?
Also keep an eye on the 'Races & Places' hider in the 1st post, I will be updating it to include new info that gets revealed in the story.

Cullwath, 3rd Largest Town In Naveroth.

(Click the image for theme music)

Cullwath was one of the more inhabited towns of the Naveroth Province, but that didn't make it anymore pleasant. Under the looming shadows of the tall houses and inns there were cold and indifferent stone pavements, a large traffic network of rats and creatures that looked like rats from a distance in the dark. And of course the dull glow of Gothic streetlamps, interrupting the fog of darkness with splashes of sickly yellow spotlights.

The people of Cullwath matched the atmosphere, suicidal looking peasants, who's main option in life is whether they and their family will starve to death or freeze to death. Large human men in black and grey armor, with the insignia of the 'Black Beak'. They were a private milita hired by the wealthy of the city to essentially act as makeshift muscle for criminal mobs, and occasionally low-end hitmen for petty disputes. They were numerous but also fairly unskilled and damn near always drunk. There were also rambling folk in dark hoods who were assumed to be either practitioners of dark magic or just addicted to chaos dust.

Lastly there were the merchants, the only people who ever seemed to smile in town, cold hollow serpent smiles to peddle their wares. Some sold regular goods, but there was a trend of travelling 'miracle merchants' who would attempt to sell their tonics to the desperate before leaving town as quickly as possible, sometimes they would get away with it, sometimes they would be caught, and it was never pretty when they were.

In a cramped in near the center of the city a young doctor had just finished stitching the wound of a local hunter, he paid the doctor 20 gold pieces for his service and thanked him for the speedy job. The doctor was actually fairly broke. Now with only 45 pieces to his name, not including the 3 he would have to pay to stay at the Mousetrap Inn for another night. It was the only inn where he could find regular work without being harassed by thugs, but he still had to encounter the odd Black Beak Mercenary who weren't much better.

His name was Pox and he had no idea how he ended up in Naveroth or this town of Cullwath specifically, but there seemed to be more work here than anywhere else. Just as he was packing up his medical equipment the Innkeeper called out to him from the other-side of the door.

Hey Doc, just heard about another job, apparently some mercs just survived a bandit ambush up the road, they say the area is clear but wanted a doc to patch up their commander, apparently he got the worst of it. Pay is 50 pieces but you have to leave right away.

It was one of those urgent 'inn requests' where a carrier bird would deliver a job that was open to freelancers, the pay was usually decent, but details would always be thin, making it that much more dangerous. Pox sat in thought for a few moments before he heard some shouting outside the inn, it seemed to be the hunter he just finished stitching in some sort of dispute. Looks like there were some choices as to what to do next.

@ShwiggityShwah

-Accept the inn request and make for the east road.

-Decline the inn request and go outside to investigate the commotion.

-Decline both, call it a night and get some sleep.

You're right, I don't. I'm not going to sit here and say it's on par with a good character action game but it's above any given Musou game and its simplicity doesn't mean a lack of variety, QTE event kills aside since that's more the reward anyway. If that's a defense then so be it, but the problems with God of War isn't in the combat.

Well at least we are setting the bar high.

If we are defending combat systems based on being 'better than dynasty warriors' which is easily the worst combat system ever, then we arent off to a good start.

The game has almost no variety, every enemy in the entire game including bosses can be fought most efficently with square, square triangle. In God of War 3 all of the weapons apart from those shit hercules gauntlets function exactly the same just with different colours. QTEs are a whole nother issue but the core of the gameplay is mediocre platforming and god awful 'sweep the room' combat.

And yes I agree with you, everything about Kratos and his world is stupid and shit, but its not just him. Almost every god acts like a one dimensional sneering prick till their last breath, and the game revels in this. You hate everyone and everyone hates you, which is fine when you are a all powerful shirtless spartan with a black guy's voice. But not so much when you are a musty neckbeard who can only attempt pro-creation with a used sock.

And 'greek tragedy' in the loosest possible sense, translates in god of war as "You killed my family you motherfucker, I'm going to kill you and everyone who looks like you" was never going to make for a very interesting trilogy.

These games were never good, and if you purchased sequels to this game hoping it was ever going to be good then Sony did a good job marketing it and deserves your money.

@ShwiggityShwah this is great, post him in the characters tab he's approved, we can start the story right away.
@ShwiggityShwah submit this work in progress in the OOC in the above link, I dont mind if you wait until hes completed.

Also, with his weapon arsenal you need to be specific how much he is carrying of each weapon like his darts and grenades, and crossbow bolts of course,
@Assallya Hey there its been a while, we RPd once or twice nearly 3 years ago!

And yes very good point. The magic level for the player character would be in the 'low to mid' power. With the more destructive spells taking a lot of time and energy (even life force) to cast. So maybe some mid sized fire balls and small lightning abilities. A fighting mage would be even more limited.
The Intro & What To Expect

The meat and potatoes to any good RP is dedicated players, interesting characters and an active plot. this shouldn't be hard to achieve at all. So I propose to keep things nice and simple (at least to start with).

First, clear choices in a 'Choose your own adventure' style will be given at the end of most of the narrator's posts. You will still have a free agency within the posts to act and say whatever you wish, but to keep the story focused I will employ this technique.

Second, there wont be any long waiting period to start or prologues to pour over. You will have a world, and a starting location and you will figure out the world and the plot from the IC as you play it. Choices and survival will be difficult and combat will challenge you as a character and a player.

Third, we only need two players to get started, the rest will join the party 'fellowship style' as the story advances. The writing level will be low-advanced. Let's have some fun!

The Fantasy World of Terraixa

A traditional sword, sorcery and savior setting where I base all my high fantasy stories and characters.

Combat

Combat follows the Arena-style method of engagement. You declare attacks but you cannot auto hit. You can attempt to dodge/block/defend but the circumstances of the attempt must be reasonable or your action will be overruled by the GMs (If you get shot at by a hail of arrows, don't attempt to Neo-dodge the projectiles or you will just get torn up).

However where this differs from Arena is that all of your encounters will be PvE (unless you and your team want to have a scuffle). So while you cant auto hit us (the GMs) we can Auto-hit you if we feel necessary. We also calculate how much damage you suffer and and how much inflict. Instances where you can auto-hit the enemy is against 'horde' type enemies like mindless zombies ,low level bandits/gangsters or stationary defense towers if they are part of a siege.

Please note YOU CAN DIE in this game, this is part survival and although GMs wont kill you for something minor 'like oops you stepped into a pit'. We will announce deaths if we feel you fail a combat encounter bad enough to warrant death being necessary. If you die your character will not come back, but you as the player will be given a grace period we you can 're-join' the waiting line with another reserve character later in the story. So write well, think logically and you will most likely live to see another page of IC posts.
