Jalika could appreciate deception, but when executed so poorly. The pause was evident, the younger man had obviously made that name up on the spot. Still, she didn't react. She bowed when the "master of this dojo" introduced himself. She held her hands in the Fire Nation tradition when she bowed low, and she allowed her head to dip a little bit as she hesitated to come up, as if lowering her head had put her off balance by blood rushing to it.

"Greetings, Sifu," she said to him, with a giggle, as if amused at herself.

She had suspicions about the two. The obvious deception was just the icing on the cake, with that strange spiritual aura that the younger man had. He could be an agent of the forces that were freezing the world. Or he could be something else.

The older man asked what she wanted, and she laughed as she deflected the question, "So... the smoke," she gestured wildly at the smoke that had brought her here, "Was you? Fire Bending?"
She looked at the two of them unsteadily for a moment. The older man was displacing air, gathering his chi for fire bending, but he had yet to make an actual aggressive move, so Jalika did nothing about him. The other was actively friendly. Both were cautious of her for reasons she her mind was busy guessing at, but the younger man was taking a different approach. There was something about him, spiritually, that made her wonder.

"I am Jalika," she spoke in a slow careful voice, as if afraid of slurring or mispeaking. "Who're you?" She pointed am unsteady finger at them.
The cold hadn't stopped the people of Ember Island from enjoying their harvest festival, even if it had stopped a good deal of the actual harvest. People were gathered in the square, where a large bon fire was lit, heating and lighting much of the square. People gathered around it, and a few fire bending jugglers were performing.

Jalika was mingling about the crowd, well known in this town for selling silk on festival days, even in this weather she did not disappoint. She didn't rent a stall, but instead carried a large bundle of the shiny golden fabric in a heavy pack on her back. Every once in a while, someone would pass her a handful of coins, and she'd give them a length of silk. It wasn't selling terribly well this year. Silk didn't keep you warm, and some people were more interested in the Earth Kingdom fellow selling wool. Still, the pockets inside her own silk robe were jingling pleasantly with coins by the time she saw the plume of black smoke rising form elsewhere in the town. No one else had noticed yet, and, as quietly as she could, just dumped her silks in an alley, leaning against a wall, and bought a skin of spiced wine from a street vendor, then started heading in that direction.

She could feel the disturbance in the air on her scalp, and could tell where the fire bender in question was, and managed to veer that direction, taking periodic sips from her wine skin. As she got closer, she was starting to sway a little in her walking, and her eyes were glazed by the time she reached the field where the two firebenders were talking. She started walking towards them, waving congenially.
Yes, a bar is a very natural place for my character to appear.

No rush, because I can't post right now. I'll try to tonight if you guys get your characters set up.
Sorry I haven't been on. I'll try to insert my character. Any idea for an ideal opening?
Okay, it's "done." Likely I'll add tidbits over time, but for the most part it's in its completed form.
I've started my CS. It is as yet a work in progress as well, but feel free to take a peek and let me know what you think.

Name: Jalika (Jaw-Lee-Caw)
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Element: Air
Abilities: Is fairly well versed in the standard air bending forms, but as her lack of tattoos attests, she never mastered them. Instead, she practices a form of her own invention, called the Crooked Breeze. Its movements mimic the swaying and stumbling of the heavily intoxicated. The style is based heavily on initial deception, and unpredictable movements. It's a very weak style against anyone who has studied it. Fortunately, at the moment Jalika is the only one who knows it.

Personality: Carries a lot of the introspection that is common in Air Nomads, but without their air of lightheartedness and fun. Her personality is a mish-mash of traits, both earnest and affected. She appears as a typical drunk, and yet is known to dispense wisdom to anyone who bothers to listen to her. She acts as if she is still grieving for her loss, but has turned her need to nurture on to others. With Jalika, nothing is, in its entirety, on the surface, and she is not easy to read.

Brief Bio: Though traditionally nomadic, Jalika would have called the Western Air Temple home in her youth. She was born there, and it was usually where she would return between journeys. She was poised to complete her training and attain mastery of Air Bending, but was jolted from her normal life when her bison companion was killed for fur by poachers. In her despair, she ran from the Temple and isolated herself for nearly a year.

When she returned, the elder monks tried to use her friend's death as a teaching tool, warning her against earthly attachments. Rather than comfort her, Jalika was enraged by how little they regarded her loss. To her, it wasn't a mere physical loss, it was a spiritual one. On this note of disagreement, she left the order for good.

In the years to come, Jalika fell into a cycle of despondence and alcoholism. That is, until she came upon a mothberry grove, so called because the plants feed the infant worms of spider-moths. When she came upon the grove, she found that it was often beset by silk makers, who would take the cocoons, the metamorphosing worms still inside, and boil them down to take the silk, with little regard for the creature inside. Jalika chased the cloth makers away, and found new meaning living in the mothberry grove, protecting the moths' young from predators and poachers alike. Since she's taken up residence, the grove has grown large and wild. She takes the husks of the cocoons, after the moths have hatched, and spins it into her own wild silk, which she sells to the people of the Fire Nation nearby.

Extras:
~ Can ride a Giant Spidermoth as a mount.
~ Still owns a traditional air bender's staff, but usually doesn't carry it.
~ Uses a pair of fans for air bending instead. Carries a variety of them on her person, as she often picks them up from festivals in the Fire Nation.
~ Still shaves her head every day.
~ Is often carrying a bottle of some shape or form.
Lightning was taught exclusively to royalty until Zuko was Fire Lord, Shanks.

Apologies, I was looking at the page from before you edited it. I see the nobility now.
I do, I have fun ideas. Stuff that utilizes what I know of the world, and adding my own ideas.
