Upon returning to the stagecoach, Mokou had spent a bit of time simply sitting on top of the main section, plucking the strings of her new lute as if testing the sound. She didn’t attempt to play a proper song, not yet, but one could see that old memories were stirring within her. Unfortunately her attention was eventually shifted as the convoy reached the saltwater lake, causing the phoenix to look up from her lute and let out a sigh, placing the instrument down and rising to her feet, “I’ll take a look around myself. If I find anything I’ll head on back” she says, waving a hand at the rest of the group before she takes to the sky once more, a streak of orange following her movements as she flew ahead.

With a high vantage point, Mokou was capable of seeing much of the same as Heismay, from the yellow wreckage to the various monsters that inhabited the frozen lands. But Mokou’s eyes were drawn to the lake itself, her years of experience warning her that something lurked within the dark waters. Slowly, Mokou lands next to the edge of the lake, her hands in her pockets as she stares out at the unfrozen water. For a few moments her red eyes simply scan the still waters. It was quiet… Far too quiet for a lake of this size. Casually, she kicks her foot across the floor, knocking a series of stones into the water and disturbing the eerie calm, testing to see if anything actually took her bait.

For a few moments it seemed like nothing had happened. Mokou was so busy looking at the big picture that she didn’t notice some of the smaller details at first–had the fog always been that thick, drifting and coiling above the surface of the frigid water? As the seconds ticked by, however, with the biting cold wind in Mokou’s ears and the muffled sounds of combat a ways to the south, the dark water of the lake began to churn. Something was coming. Given the sheer scale of displaced water one could easily be forgiven for thinking that Two-Toed Tom had somehow recovered and followed the Seekers here, hellbent on seizing his hard-fought meal at last. This was no mere alligator, though. As a massive shape finally began to emerge from the deep, it became clear that this thing was much bigger, much stronger, and much, much stranger.

First, there came jagged, aquamarine scales, encrusted with barnacles. Then came a crown of gold, its odd greenish luster the product of some primeval, abyssal metallurgy. Then came the eyes, huge, bulbous, and moon-like, the color of sour milk. Then came the teeth, a maw of spiky fangs the size of spears, redundant in their quantity, like vile palisades. It was an aquatic monstrosity, and if its head alone stood as tall as the stagecoach itself, one could only shudder to imagine the full scope of its loathsome enormity. Though its eyes lacked pupils, Mokou could feel its baleful gaze rest upon her, and a hideous rumble issued from the beast as it exuded its Breath of the Sea. When that fathomless vapor brushed against Mokou, it not only had a good chance to inflict stress, but one Blind token and two Vulnerable tokens.

Mokou, however, simply stares back at the leviathan before her, narrowing her eyes at the monster rising from the depths to face her. When the putrid breath rolled over the lakeside, Mokou simply took to the air, a flurry of feathers forming in the air before raining down. Yet her opening volley was met by the beast’s jagged scales, each feather dispersing on contact with little effect. The milky voids that counted for its eyes simply follows Mokou’s movement… Before it inhales with a deep breath. In an instant afterwards, it regurgitates a torrent of both water and undigested fish, using it as a beam to knock the phoenix from the sky. But for Mokou, the torrent of water was a simple thing to dodge, the immortal practically sliding underneath it as another torrent of larger feathers flew towards the beast.

For a minute, the duo found a rhythm in their attacks, the leviathan attempting to knock Mokou out of the sky with its breath and water, whilst the phoenix rained fire down upon its wet, glistening scales. Yet the beast quickly grew tired of the fact that Mokou was flying far above it, and thus…

It chose to act on its rage.

As Mokou narrowly avoided yet another torrent of water, treating the fight more as a chore rather than a battle, a sudden chill went down her spine, causing her to stop for a moment. Admittedly, it was less fear and more out of curiosity, as the immortal registered what had just happened. That chill was a primal response to something, and in a way, Mokou was intrigued by what would have caused it. Her answer would be quickly found when she looked back down, noticing a gleaming light from within the leviathan’s eyes.

Before it leapt out of the water, its long arm outstretched to snatch Mokou out of the sky. Normally, the phoenix would be capable of dodging such a strike, yet in that instant, she was caught off guard, resulting in the beast easily wrapping its webbed hand around her body, leaving only her head visible as gravity took control once more, sending it falling back into the lake with its prey in hand, struggling within its grip, attempting to drown Mokou by holding her under the surface.

With everything underway, Vivian’s path to Route 4 was secured. Her first steps into the route were one of fresh air, a pleasurable reminder of her home town back in Celestic. Nice, calm, and filled with Pokemon just going about their day. Vivian herself simply marches on, giving a friendly wave to the various Bidoof and Wooper that were vibing within the river.

Yet, at the same time, there was something that called out to Vivian as she made her way up the rocky path. Something imperceptible in the air, yet still a sense that Vivian was familiar with: The unmistakable scent of well-aged ruins.

Vivian’s first sign of the ruins was a simple wall, barely visible over the crest of the walkway she was on. Yet as soon as she saw the aged stone, the young archeologist froze… And then almost immediately broken into a full sprint, her hands already flying towards her bag, filled with various archeological tools, kicking up a cloud of dust as she ran.

This was her calling, her true fervor. An ancient ruin, right on the front steps of a city! And she got to try to decipher them all by herself! If she wasn’t busy making a mad dash to them, she could have fainted from the sheer joy.

Mokou floats over the battlefield of monkeys and balloons, watching with mild interest as the defenses tore about the aggressive balloons… And even more when the new TV man that had joined their ranks ran out to help defeat the balloons. If she had the urge, she might’ve joined in with the destruction… But in truth, she couldn’t be bothered. Destroying a bunch of balloons did not sound like a worthwhile time to Mokou. Instead, she simply continues forward, floating past the battle and towards the village, landing just in front of a guard who regarded her with a curious look under their helmet,

“Huh, flying past the monkeys huh? I suppose that’s one way to do it” he comments, folding his arms, far more casual thanks to how infrequent danger came to this place, “I’m surprised to see a young face making their way to Gründachdorf. You’re not here to cause problems, are you?”

Mokou simply shakes her head at the question, hands leaving her pockets so she could show that they were empty of anything threatening, “Nonsense, just here to see the sights. And to find someone” Mokou walks up to the guard, placing her hands back into her pocket while looking up at them, her gaze somehow piercing their helmet to look them directly in the eyes, “Looking for a man named Baldur. Apparently he’s in the area and has a history of fighting anyone he comes across-”

Before she can get any further, the guard lets out a groan, “Ah, him. Didn’t know his name was Baldur, but yeah, we had someone like that pass through a while back. Went straight through those monkeys up there and then took out the entire militia. Demanded an audience with our commander and then beat him into the snow. Walked off towards the mountains without even a shirt” he explains, turning his body to gesture towards the village, “Position of Captain hasn’t been filled out ever since, and we lost a lot of good men to the balloons that came shortly afterwards.”

“... So those balloons are a threat. Interesting.” Mokou comments, letting out a sigh, “Sounds like the guy I’m looking for. Thanks, I think I’ll take a look around this place before I head out to get him.” With that, Mokou walks around the guard, giving him a small wave as she passes, “Take care. I’ll make sure he answers for the lives lost here.”

Heading into the snowy village, Mokou simply takes in the sights for a bit. The village was a nice, quiet place. Were she a few hundred years younger, she could imagine living near this place. Or at least, for a bit, considering the murderous balloons that apparently infested the lands. That alone made her hesitant to mark this as a nice home. But, humanity was stubborn, so it was no surprise that they would settle in a place like this.

As Mokou makes her way through the center of the villge, a small sound stops her in her tracks. Sitting on a bench near the village’s river was a bard with multicolored hair and a lyre, playing a soft song that flowed through the cold air. Their eyes were closed as they focused on their song, but as soon as Mokou began to approach, they opened to regard the approaching white haired girl with a cheerful warmth,

“Hey there, haven’t seen you around. Take a seat, company’s better when both parties are resting!” he said with a tone that matched the cheer in their eyes, an offer that Mokou accepted, falling onto the bench and folding one leg over the other,

“No surprise you haven’t seen me, never been around this place before. Just arrived a few minutes ago, in fact.”

“Ah, a traveler too, are you?” the bard asks with a grin, “Lots of folks coming through here these days. Did you come through the way with the monkeys?” a small nod from Mokou spurs the bard to continue, “They’re a fun sort. I’ve stuck around here for a few days and at one point went to watch them for a while, and they just go day in and day out fighting those balloons.”

“Hm, I had a distinct feeling they did that. I hardly encountered any sort of problem with them however: They didn’t seem to care about anything flying overhead” Mokou states, looping her arms around the back of her head and leaning further back into her seat on the bench.

The statement caused the bard to blink, bringing their free hand to their chin in contemplation, “Flying right above their heads huh? I ended up walking the path and getting a bomb hurled at me” they ruminate, brows furrowing slightly as they remembered the dreadful memory, “Thankfully they seem to only register threats as anyone who walks on the path. They never attacked when I got launched off of it” The bard lets out a small laugh, brushing off the memory, “But, that’s in the past now. I’m simply spending a few nights here to rest before heading back out on the road again.

“Nothing too major. Just helping out another group of travelers hunt down someone who passed through here. They figure he’s on the path to what’s called ‘The Moon Mountain’.”

“Ah, the crazy guy that went through the entire garrison. I wasn’t here when they came through, but apparently they’ve left a lasting impression” The bard laughs, not out of malice to the guards who fought as hard as they could, but to ease the mood now that a less pleasant subject had been brought up.

“Yeah, the guards here certainly seem a bit more on edge thanks to that” the phoenix states, frowning a bit as her voice falls to a whisper, “Immortals like him give us a bad name, don’t they?”

For a brief moment, the mirth in the bard’s laugh halted as they suddenly looked back at Mokou, their mouth slowly closing with a small, knowing nod, and much like Mokou his voice lowered to avoid being overheard, “I had a feeling you’d pick up on it. Took a look into your own eyes and knew you’d see a bit further. What exactly gave me away, if I may?”

Mokou simply shrugs at that, “Hard to say, it’s just a bit of your aura. A few hundred years of living alongside the divine lets you pick them up if you focus” she admits, “Not planning on sharing your secret though. I know how important it can be to keep your true nature hidden. I don’t entirely care anymore, but I know some still do” with that, the phoenix sits up from her seat, dusting her pants off, “Well, I should make sure that group got here safely in the first place and then prepare to head out” she states, already taking a few steps to leave, only to be stopped as Venti called out to her, placing his lyre onto the bench,

“Hey, before you go, from one adventurer to another…” The bard states, closing their eyes for a moment, holding out their hand. A swirl of green wind flows through the air, coalescing into his open palm and quickly forming a Lyre, not quite the same as the one he held already, but certainly one of exquisite quality, “I have a few of these stored away, so consider this a gift. It isn’t much, but… Think of it as a good luck charm for taking down that guy. Can’t have him go around causing more trouble for towns, can we?”

Mokou acquires: Windsong Lyre!
An instrument of incredible workmanship, it will surely produce moving music when played by able hands.

Mokou blinks in surprise at the offer… But reaches out to take it, holding it under her arm, “Hm. Haven’t played music in a while, but… Thanks.”

“Hey, we all need a hobby or two. Learn some songs and next time we see each other I might give you something else” Venti says with a smile, standing up from their seat as well, “Or just get some drinks at a tavern. A good wine always elevates the spirit, as I say. My name is Venti, by the way, for when we find each other again.”

Throughout the conversation, Mokou had kept her face rather impassive… But with Venti’s words, the phoenix couldn’t help but smile a bit, “Fujiwara no Mokou. But I just go by Mokou” she states, lifting one hand from her pockets to give the bard a small wave, “Suppose I’ll see you another time then, if our paths cross. I’ve gotta go deal with an old man who can’t catch up to the times.”

And with that, Mokou turns and walks away, leaving the wandering bard to return to his music as she searched for the rest of the group, partially to rendezvous with them and partially to store her new gift away. She certainly hadn’t played in centuries, but it could be fun getting back into it.

As the stagecoach continued on its way, Mokou actually found time to close her eyes and nap. Something she technically didn’t have to do, but it helped pass the time and, sometimes, felt like she was normal again and not just imitating human behavior. But, as with all things, a good nap had to end eventually as Mokou heard some commotion outside the walls of the stagecoach, eliciting a heavy sigh from the white haired girl as she pushed herself off of her seat and out into the cold air once more.

The sight that awaited her outside was… Odd, but one that only got a slight eyebrow raise. A line of various balloons moving with purpose along a path… Which was currently being defended by a group of monkeys with various gadgets. It was certainly a sight, albeit one that seemed more like a hassle than anything that would interest her.

“Ugh… Pain that they’re not keen on letting us pass”
Mokou comments upon seeing the inferno hounds return, rubbing the back of her head, “Doubtful that they’d be keen on chatting with us either. I think I’ll take up a vantage point up above, if they try anything funny I’ll see it” Mokou states, kicking her foot idly, “That, or burn some of their fortifications to make them move.”

Without waiting for any input on her plan, a pair of fiery wings emerged from her back, the Phoenix launching herself into the sky within moments. Yet when she got high enough, she simply floated there, hands in her pockets as she scanned the pathway and what lay beyond. If she squinted, she could certainly see a village in the distance, though she couldn’t make out any shapes to say if this belonged to these monkeys or not. Mokou would assume a ‘yes’ on that question, seeing as the monkeys had to be guarding something of value to themselves, but she had learned not to plan for assumptions.

Regardless, even if the monkeys did attack the stagecoach, it would be a while before they got into range of it, thanks to them making their own path. So Mokou decided to scout ahead, lazily floating forward over the monkey’s defenses. From this height, she wasn’t worried about them firing at her: All it would be is a waste of ammunition for them.

Vivian stays still for a few moments, but with the sound of cheering Pokemon, she peeked between her fingers… Almost surprised to see that Atlas was the one still standing and victorious. Something she was certainly surprised to see, but also just as ecstatic for. But while Atlas turned to the crowd, fist raised in the air to signify their victory and basking in the audience’s adoration, Vivian was met by the Farfetch’d, its own purpose clear: To join her journey in order to gain more strength.

“Oh, um… Well, you can see that I’m not a battler myself, but-” Vivian says, taking a deep breath before she kneels down, carefully plucking a pokeball from her belt and holding it out for the Farfetch’d, “You seem to get along with Atlas well, and I doubt I’ll avoid getting into fights, so I’d be glad to have you aboard” she adds with a smile. Battling was, truly, not her strongest suit, and she knew having two partners who enjoyed it would lead to her getting into more fights that could be avoided… But after the display both Atlas and the Farfetch’d gave, she couldn’t just leave them here. There was an entire region to explore, and she was certain that in her hunt for ruins, both of these Pokemon would gain more strength than they could imagine.

Plus, what if she was attacked by other archeologists wanting to stake claim on her discoveries? She needed help to keep her relics under her protection.

With her agreement, Farfetch’d lifted up a wing, tapping the Pokeball’s center with their feather. A flash of red erupted from the ball, enveloping the old champion before withdrawing into itself, not even bothering to shake as it simply clicked with a successful capture.

Rising to her full height, Vivian placed Farfetch’d’s new Pokeball onto her belt, jogging up to Atlas with their own Pokeball, “Great job Atlas, you did fantastic!” she states, offering the Pokeball to the Golett… An offer that the machine gladly took. They wouldn’t show it, but the fight had truly taken a toll on them, and it would be best to rest. But with her champion now safely stored away, Vivian turns to the crowd, giving a wave to them, “We’ll be going now! Take care of yourselves, and I hope you guys find a cool new champion!”

With that, Vivian takes her leave, getting herself back onto the road. First she had to stop by the Pokemon Center to heal her two fighters, but once that was handled, it would be back to her initial goal: Route 4.

With Sandalphon’s voice interrupting her rest, Mokou simply opened one eye, not seeming annoyed in the slightest as she listened to their offer. It didn’t even take long for Mokou to decide on it, giving a small shrug and nod of her head, “Sure. I don’t much care for riches, but I don’t have much else I’m handling. In fact I was simply going to pick a direction and walk once this was done, so I suppose it would be more entertaining to go with you all for now” she says, before pushing herself off the bench once more to prepare to move out. Casual as she was, it was clear that she intended to follow her word and stick with this group… For now, at least.

Eventually, the group had begun to move on, leaving the zoo behind them and advancing to their true destination. Mokou herself took more of a spectator role to the procession, observing the group and what they were doing rather than interfering… Yet eventually, she stood up, making her way to Sandalphon, hands in her pockets as they always appeared to be, “So, suppose introductions are in order. Name's Fujiwara no Mokou, but I mostly go by Mokou. Simpler that way. Figured now would be the best time to actually ask where you’re headed: I’m tagging along either way, but a heads up would be nice.”

When Mokou approached, Sandalphon looked up from the papers she’d been reading, then carefully tucked them into a briefcase that she pushed beneath the bench at her feet. “Certainly. My name is Sandalphon.” She raised one hand and with a flick of her wrist summoned a light screen oriented toward her visitor. In quick succession it displayed images of White Team’s other members, all from Sandalphon’s perspective since they were snippets of her memory. “If you have not already made their acquaintance, these are Blazermate, Geralt, the Ace Cadet, Sectonia, Roxas, Ganondorf, Edward, and Ramattra.” She then displayed an image of a colossal crag beneath a motionless, stony sphere. “Our current destination is Moon Mountain, which you may have seen on the northern horizon, and to get there we are following the Midnight Walk.”

The archangel briefly paused as she considered exactly how much about her mission to share. “In order to safeguard this world’s inhabitants, we are hunting an extremely dangerous man known as Baldur. Although his whereabouts are unknown, we have reason to believe that he will seek out anyone who might be able to pose him a worthy challenge. Additionally, we have reason to believe that Moon Mountain is somehow linked to the long night and falling temperatures that the Highlands are experiencing.” Her unblinking gaze rested on Mokou as she paused to see if everything made sense to Mokou, and give her a chance to ask any questions she might have.

Mokou simply tilts her head to the side, closing her eyes as she gives a small nod and a few ‘hmm’ sounds, “I’ve certainly seen it, the Moon Mountain that is. You think that this Baldur fellow of yours is around the mountain? Or just investigating one problem at a time?” she states, red eyes opening and looking back at the angel, “And what makes this Baldur dangerous, if I may ask? Fighting everyone is a problem I see constantly, but when you have an entire group hunting you down, I expect there’s something that puts you above the rest.”

“He is, for all intents and purposes, immortal,” Sandalphon answered truthfully. “He abuses that fact to run roughshod over the commonfolk. However, he is also an important cog in the machine of Moebius, a despotic faction that controls much of this world from the shadows, whose members treat ordinary people like livestock and orchestrate wars merely for entertainment. Once Baldur is eliminated, we will be that much closer to toppling Moebius.” As far as she knew, Moebius wasn’t among the subjects that Galeem’s influence suppressed, in part because they didn’t exist prior to the World of Light itself. Perhaps hearing of their evildoing would light a fire in Mokou’s heart.

Sure enough, the existence of Moebius seemed to catch Mokou’s attention… But not nearly as much as Baldur did, “A fellow immortal huh? Good thing you came across me then. If I can’t talk any sense into them, then I can just bash it into their skull” she says before sighing, body instinctively slouching even more than it was already, “I was the same way for a while, just picking fights for the chance of entertainment. But after a few years that sort of thing lost its luster” as Mokou explains, her mind wanders to her own rival and, for a moment, she ponders if they would be a part of this ‘Moebius’. But the thought is quickly discarded: As annoying as Kaguya was, and how often they liked to pull people’s strings for their own entertainment, she was far from tyrannical. Just overtly carefree.

Without any further probing, Mokou freely admitted just what Sandalphon had been suspecting, which would be a perfect segue into the next topic she wanted to discuss. “So, you are immortal as well? During the encounter with that albino alligator I did observe you demonstrate what I hypothesized to be resurrective immortality. If you do not mind sharing, I would be curious about the ins and outs of this ability, as well as its source. Is this ability inherent to you, or did you obtain it somehow?”

“... Guess I can explain that, just be prepared to be disappointed: I don’t sugarcoat this” Mokou says as she rolls her shoulder, preparing herself for the explanation she was about to lay out, “To put it simply: I stole my immortality. An annoying hag named Kaguya made a thing called the ‘Hourai Elixir’, and after it caused her nothing but troubles, she eventually had it sent out to be destroyed. I took it while it was in transit and drank it, which resulted with my body and soul being imbued with ‘Eternity’. And to elaborate, you only needed three sips of the elixir to become ‘immortal’, I did far more than that” she explained, pausing for a moment to let the ramifications sink in for Sandalphon before continuing,

“As a result, I am completely unchanging. I don’t age, I don’t become ill, I don’t even need to eat or drink, really. Anything that affects me will eventually be reverted, doesn’t matter if it affects my body or my soul. Spent a few hundred years trying to find a way to reverse it, but it’s a bit hard to undo Eternity. And if you’re wondering how you can get your own: Nip that desire in the bud. Last I checked, Kaguya had no plans to make any more of them, and the only one with the knowledge to actually make the Elixir is her doctor Eiren.”

“I see…” Sandalphon’s power symbol-shaped pupils became inverted triangles as she listened. “Well, I have no particular attachment to ‘eternity’. If no more Elixir exists, that means Moebius cannot obtain it for themselves.” Her pupils then became question marks. “One more question, if I may. Do you remember how long you’ve been wandering this country, Mokou?”

Mokou tilts her head, tapping her foot a few times as she pondered the question, “I’ve honestly lost track of time even for something like that, so I can’t exactly give you a good estimation. Gave up on it when I got to thirteen-hundred years of age” she states, kicking the floor of the stagecoach idly, “Could’ve been wandering for a few months or a few years and I wouldn’t know the difference.”

But not two hundred plus years, Sandalphon surmised. While she believed Mokou could survive being killed, it would have surprised the archangel if Mokou turned out to be an exception to the World of Light subjects’ obligate ten-year lifespan. Death and erasure were not exactly the same thing, after all. If her hypothesis was correct, the Hourai Elixir would be of no use when it came to her own predicament, even if she could somehow acquire it. Far better that such a dangerous concoction never again see the light of day. “Thank you for humoring me,” she told the phoenix. “Is there anything else I can elucidate for you?”

“Nah, I don’t have any more questions for now. If I come up with anymore, I’ll make sure to run them by you” Mokou responds, turning on her heel in order to walk back to where she had set up her shop (I.E: Where she was resting), giving Sandalphon a casual wave as she left. For the most part, she seemed a little bit more excited, as minimal as it was: The chance to face a fellow immortal wasn’t something she got often, outside her duels with Kaguya.

She’d enjoy the future, that was for sure.

With the viking in tow, Mokou exits the staff center and returns to the stagecoach, whistling sharply to alert the other two of their brother’s return. As they approached, Mokou stopped in her tracks, letting the third brother go ahead on his own and return to his brethren, hands on her hips and a small, almost imperceptible smile on her face. Old as she was, she always found it refreshing to guide lost souls back together.

With their gratitude already clear, each of the brothers offered Mokou a gift: An individual fourth of a glass heart that, even fractured, radiated with life. Mokou herself had no use for this: Extra life meant nothing to one with an eternity to spend, but she still knew the value it could have. Any other person in this group that came here might value these pieces highly. Thus, Mokou simply pocketed them, giving a small smile to the three brothers, “Thanks. I’m going to stay here for a bit to make sure this group is good to move too, but if you need to go somewhere else and need a little escort just holler at me” she says, spinning on her heel and heading over to vacant bench and quickly lounging on top of it, folding a leg over the other, shifting her body slightly to be as comfortable as possible before closing her eyes, not quite sleeping but also clearly attempting to relax.

Even in her resting state though, Mokou could hear the sounds of battle in the distance. Yet despite it, Mokou didn’t rouse from her spot, and in fact, if anyone tried to get her up, she’d simply give a dismissive wave of her hand. While she was certainly making sure that this group was together by the time they all left, she was also fairly confident in their ability to handle a loose problem.

And also because she couldn’t be certain she wouldn’t accidentally hit one of them with her feathers if she did go and help fight whatever was inside that greenhouse.

Atlas holds their own post-punch pose for the duration of the dramatic silence, only returning to their normal stance once the Farfetch’d got to its feet. In the same breath, it held out a hand, gesturing for the bird to come to them with a cocky sounding mechanical noise, a challenge that the Farfetch’d was quick to answer.

For Vivian, she was engrossed with the battle. She didn’t expect to get such a powerhouse Pokemon as her starter, but Atlas’ performance was spectacular… Even if they were seeming to ignore her, a fact that got pushed aside thanks to Atlas’ results. Yet as she stood there in awe of her mechanized starter, Vivian’s eyes focused on the Farfetch’d’s leek, or more specifically, the dark energy that surrounded it, her mind rapidly combing through the information she knew,

“Hold on, that energy seems to be some sort of dark power. That’s generally tied to Dark type classifications. Most ruins are inhabited by Pokemon largely classified as Ghosts and Psychics, and there is history of certain other species attacking ruins and stealing from it, and those species are generally classified as Darks. Which would then mean that-”

“OhnoAtlasdodgebeforethathitsyou!” Vivian shouted, waving her arms at intense speeds to try and get her partner’s attention.

Yet it was all for naught as Atlas was too focused on the incoming attack to listen. And if a machine could smile, it would be obvious that Atlas was at this moment. Seeing the dark energy flowing through the leek, Atlas responded by stepping forward, his core glowing brightly as fire formed around their fists. Atlas would not run: He would meet his foe’s blow head on.

Atlas gathers their own strength and uses Fire Punch to directly counter the Night Slash. Vivian, meanwhile, fails to give advice and instead covers her eyes so she doesn’t have to see the horror about to unfold.

The embers that remained of Mokou’s attack began to fade, claimed by the low temperatures of the zoo. At least, all but the glowiest spark, which quickly burst into a small ball of fire, before dispersing to reveal an unharmed Mokou. Tilting her head to the side as if stretching, Mokou simply floated lazily towards the stagecoach, turning midair to watch the fight against Tom unfolded, not even bothering to unleash anymore feathers. She could recognize a beast’s final strokes before it lost the ability to fight.

Thus, she instead simply followed the stagecoach, letting the battle die down behind her as Tom slunk back into the water. She hardly matched the frantic speed of the Reindrix, but she nevertheless made it to the stagecoach with the others, giving a casual wave to Heismay as she landed within the clearing, taking notice of his momentary worry.

As the Seekers began to settle down for a short rest though, Mokou simply began to walk on, making her way to the staff center. Though, as she did so, she stopped by Geralt, having recognized them from the fact that they had been in the freezing water. The phoenix was well aware of the effects hypothermia could have on a body, and with how old they seemed… Well, better to be safe than sorry, “Hey. Figured you could use this, should help with the cold. Don’t hold onto it directly, just keep it close and guide it with your hand if you need to” Mokou says as she holds out a hand, a small wisp of fire forming into a feather similar to the one she gave to the Viking earlier and allowing it to hover in front of Geralt. With that, she puts her hand back into her pocket, continuing on to the staff center.

Thankfully, the door to the building was unlocked, allowing Mokou to easily enter without having to make a large scene. That and it was, in comparison to the rest of the zoo, still relatively intact, almost as if the chaos of the zoo had not touched it.

… At least, that would be the case, if not for the angry shouting coming from deeper into the building, something that caused Mokou to direct her attention towards, already making her way towards the sounds. It didn’t take long for Mokou to find the source of the noise within the rec room within the staff center: A blond haired man yelling profanities as they were wrapped up a giant silk ball, and a massive spider that was easily larger than Mokou herself, almost mutated beyond recognition, with their legs being an amalgamation of different, non-arachnid parts. The spider seemed to be wholly focused on its work, continuing to wrap up the man to save a meal for later.

Suddenly, a sharp whistle broke the angry ranting of the Viking and the work of the spider as the two snapped their heads to look at the source of the noise. For the Viking, it was a confusing sight: A short, white haired girl walking into the room without a care in the world. For the spider, however, it was simply another intruder… Or more specifically, another source of food.

With angry chittering, the spider plants the Viking upon the wall next to them, its webbing sticking to the surface like glue while the creature descended down onto the floor, keeping direct eye contact with Mokou. On her end, Mokou did not seem at all concerned by the approach of the spider, instead stopping in the center of the room, removing her hand from her pocket and aiming two fingers at it. For a moment, the two stood off, the spider twitching ever so slightly as it prepared to strike, and Mokou staring at it with a bored expression, silently daring it to try.

Then, in an instant, the spider leapt forward, fangs bared. And in the same instant, a condensed stream of flame split it in two, completely obliterating the center as the two remaining halves sailed by Mokou’s body, the legs instantly curling up as they registered their death.

With that out of the way, Mokou shakes her hand, a few remaining wisps of flame dispersing as she did so, “Honestly getting tired with all the mutated creatures around here. Though that was hardly the biggest spider I’ve ever seen” she stated as she walked forward, placing her hand back into her pocket, looking over the near cocooned form of the Viking, “Hm. Good thing I showed up, I doubt it had anything pleasant planned for you” Mokou added, her casualness causing the Viking’s expression to sour,

“Aye, I know that well enough. Damn beast caught me by surprise: Had I fought it directly, it would have been no match for me!” the Viking says, evidently proud of his own strength… Before remembering his current predicament, “Unfortunately, these webs are rather strong. I could use a-”

“Helping hand, yeah, I gathered as much” Mokou interrupted, already moving over to the bound Viking, floating up and placing her hand on the webbing, “Keep still, this is easier if you don’t move.”

With that, an orange pulse rippled through the webbing, and within seconds, each strand began to burn away, the fire condensed to not affect the Viking within. Soon enough, the webbing had been burned enough to release its captive… And cause him to fall straight to the floor, a fact that Mokou did bother trying to stop.

“Gah, bloody hell, I appreciate the help lass, but could ye not have dealt with the fall?" they said, groaning as they pushed themselves off of the ground, all while Mokou simply floated to the ground, hands back in her pocket, giving him a nonchalant shrug.

“It was only a short fall. Not like it’s gonna hurt you long term. More importantly, you’re one of the vikings here right? The tall one is with us, and Erik is safe too.”

“Ah, you’ve met me brothers then. I reckon they’ve been hiding away. Even sounds like Olaf never gave you their name! Absolutely disgraceful. Us Vikings have better manners than that, I can’t believe they wouldn’t give a name to their saviors! Not like I expect anything more-” the Viking continued on, showing no signs of stopping his berating of his brothers, or at least complaining about their flaws. For her part, Mokou simply shrugged, and silently began to guide them out of the building and to the stagecoach. She’d heard this kind of talk too many times to count, but hey, if it helped with his stress, then so be it.
Vivian Sorex

Vivian was very slow to respond as Atlas and the Farfetch'd took up their stances, stammering over themselves as they tried to grab Atlas' Pokeball to return the automaton to its home. Yet by the time she had managed to get it into her hands, the duo had begun their brawl, stopping the young archeologist as she watched in awe. She wasn't a battler, that kind of thing never truly interested her, though she had certainly taken time to watch official League matches. But that was, in a sense, entertainment on a TV or computer. A natural divide that prevented her from getting invested. Here though? This was real. The fact that it was her new partner taking the initiative, the cheering crowd, the sound of the two combatants clashing.

It was enough that Vivian almost forgot that she was supposed to be the one commanding her Golett.

"Gah, er- Atlas, use De-" Vivian begins to call out, cutting herself off as she saw the gravel and dirt at Atlas...'s arms, as the automaton had simply lifted its relatively large arm to cover its face. It was a moment where Atlas couldn't see the bird... Yet it didn't seem to care as it stepped forward, reaching its other hand down to scoop up a chunk of loose dirt and grit itself, before throwing it up into the air in front of it, anticipating Farfetch'd to try to use the opening Atlas had created. Then, with a stomp forward, the arm that Atlas used to block their face swipes to the side, an aura of fire raging around it before they swing forward with yet another Fire Punch.
