Thank and much love (lub) to those to wellwishers and sympathizers with the [REDACTED FOR INAPPROPRIATE CONDUCT]. If you'ns are interested, stay tuned for an OOC in the Advanced section over the next few days. For now though, most discussion seems to be happening on the cross-posted interest check in General Interest Checks here.

Long live [REDACTED FOR INAPPROPRIATE CONDUCT]!
Lamech, Son of Methushael

Lamech, the Great Great Great Grandson of Cain, rules over the city Enoch, founded by Cain over two thousand years ago. Situated in the desolate wilderness of Nod, Enoch rises from the scrubby wilderness as a chaotic skyline of plaster towers and mud brick walls fashioned from the muddy ground on which the city was built. The waters of the abyss seep up to the surface as muddy oases, providing the nomad Cain both arable land and drinking water that prompted him to settle down at last.

The City of Enoch is now the world's most populous city. A great majority of Enoch's denizens are starving paupers living in squalor and misery while their Lord's entourage and courtiers lead decadent lives under the lapis lazuli dome of the Palace of Mehujael. Constant discontent simmers among the masses, and must be kept in check using both brutal enforcement of Lamech's laws and tolerance of vices outlawed in other parts of the world. Brothels, opium dens, taverns, and other unsavory enterprises are permitted within Enoch's walls so long as Lamech's tax collectors get their cut. Criminals are executed violently to keep their peers in line, often in bloody public spectacles hosted in the Pit of Enoch - a great stadium where bloodsports are held to pacify the mobs.

It isn't just his unruly populace that Lamech must contend with, but rival city-states with smaller, more-manageable populations. Eruthros of Sudara poses the greatest threat, as only he can match Lamech's avarice. For now a tenuous detente holds between Enoch and Sudara as Lamech and Eruthros currently seem more interested in domestic affairs. Nevertheless, spies and assassins of both lords are present in either city, and major rows could develop easily at a moment's notice.
Hi! I'm interested but I am slightly confused. The Nephilim were the offspring of fallen angels and humans, they weren't exactly angels themselves. Are you taking creative liberty with them here? It's fine if you are I'm just checking to make sure I got mythos correct

No you've got it straight - the Nephilim are not quite angels themselves. You are 100% correct. Technically it was the Watchers that were the true angels, but rather than muddy the waters and confuse people I am omitting them and calling the Nephilim fallen angels as a simplification/creative liberty. I thought it would offer some interesting storytelling opportunities to have the perspective of fallen angels intermingling with the human majority. What might they think of human society? Perhaps some Nephilim want to elevate humanity from their baser desires? Perhaps some have given into their human peers and have fallen to hedonism like their fellow man? Human-angel interactions are something that I am going to explore in depth in my plotlines.

Also, rumors of my death are highly exaggerated. I still plan on going forward with this so stay tuned.
Definitely interested. But what's the story - like the overarching narrative?

I have a plotline in mind if one does not develop organically. To me, the best plots are the ones that occur on their own, so I'm going to let the characters do their expositionary posts for a while and then start nudging everybody onto the plot arc if one doesn't manifest. Not going to say what it is though - that would spoil it!

This sounds pretty cool. I'm interested.

Good stuff! I'm interested, but requesting additional flavor images/videos/music for maximum erectile longevity. All of the Antediluvian media I'm coming up with is schizophrenic postulation about aryan atlantean superscience.

EDIT: How do you feel about aryan atlantean superscience?

As for aryan atlantean superscience... wat.

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great upon the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was altogether evil all the time. And the Lord regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.

-Genesis 6:5-6

Twenty-six centuries have passed since Adam and his wife Eve committed the first sin and ate the forbidden fruit of knowledge. From the very beginning, the Lord's favorite creation proved disobedient and faithless. In the centuries that followed, Man only honed his depravity. Adam's son Cain slew his brother Abel in a jealous rage, and in doing so became the first murderer. From there, Man's evil only increased in its frequency and severity. Bribery, cheating, torture, slavery, and rape became common among the teeming multitudes of Adam's progeny. The Lord became ashamed of the humans he had created and turned his back on creation out of disgust and guilt.

In the Lord's absence, the wickedness of man goes unchecked. In God's absence, men have taken his place, ruling over the multitudes with absolute authority. These masters among humanity have taken the title of 'Lord' for themselves, and with their authority over their peers, institute their own laws and make their own orders. They wage war with their neighbors to secure livestock, land, slaves, and women. Their cities are rife with all manner of debauched activities and vices designed to keep the populace sedate and pliable while the Lords seek to emulate God in his absence.

In spite of the widespread evil that prevails over the world, not all of humanity is lost to wickedness. Righteous men, though few and far between, adhere to God's will even though he has abandoned the world. Some men still treat their neighbors with dignity and mercy, despite the fact that their prayers have gone unanswered for millennia. They yearn for the day that the Lord God returns to cleanse the evil from the Earth.

The world itself is full of perils. In the cities, there are dangers aplenty. Slavers steal men from their homes or the streets and impress them into labor on the opium farms of the lords. Rapists, murderers, and common thieves are common throughout the rabble of the cities, and so no one is ever truly safe. Even the nobles in their guarded palaces cannot rest easy, for assassins sent by rival lords could be lurking in the shadows at any given moment. But for all the perils of the city, the countryside is no safer. Outside of the cities and hamlets, strange beasts haunt the wildernesses, necessitating walls and fences for all populated places. Roving warbands and marauders wander the wilderness too, seeking out easy prey caught beyond the protection of the walls and their guards. Fallen angels too occupy the Earth. Banished from the heavens, they tend to live in isolation away from humanity, though some have ventured into the cities to live with Man. Their great stature makes the Nephilim powerful adversaries, and those that venture into the cities can find gainful employment in the service of the local Lord or wealthy merchant.

2,600 years after the Fall of Man, you find yourself in a world ruled not by God, but by sin. Be you a lord, commoner, righteous man, Nephilim, prostitute, bandit, slaver, or otherwise, you must make your make your way as best you can in a world devoid of God's love and rife with Man's wickedness.

Welcome to the Wickedness of Man; an advanced, literate roleplay set in the Antediluvian World - the world prior to the Biblical flood. God, ashamed by how evil mankind has become, has decided to ignore Earth and leave men to their fate without any intervention. War and murder are constants in this world, and good people are few and far between. In this roleplay, the players may explore this grim and distant past either as a noble lord with hundreds of warriors and servants at their command, the head of a household with only a few characters under their control, or a solitary individual.

As an advanced and literate roleplay, the aim is not to "win", but to build a great story in a malleable setting with plenty of room for creative license. Extremely little is known about the Antediluvian world, so players are encouraged to use their imagination to fill in the gaps where the few historical sources are silent. Players are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the book of Genesis, the Antiquities of the Jews, and other sources, to understand the basics of this setting, but I will summarize very briefly here:

- The world is only 2,600 years old, and has not yet experienced the Great Flood of Genesis. Fantastic animals that never made it onto Noah's Ark to survive into modern times inhabit this world. Some of these lost beasts may have been used as draft animals or livestock. Others are apex predators. And others still serve no purpose but to inhabit the world and give it flavor.
- God had not yet limited the lifespan of Man, and so men sometimes live to be hundreds of years old. This is fairly rare and commoners tend to live hard, violent lives. They rarely live to be older than 60.
- The Tower of Babel has not yet been built, and so the humans of this world speak a single tongue known as Adamic. There may be different cultures extant throughout the world, but all men can speak freely to one another.
- Angels exist in this world, and there are several types of them. The Nephilim - the fallen angels banished from the Heavens - are by far the most common. Cherubim are God's messengers, and have not been seen in the world for thousands of years. Legend holds that six-winged Seraphim guard the land of Eden from humans attempting to re-enter.
- The City of Enoch, founded by Cain following the murder of Abel, is a great and populous city, but it is not the only city in the world. Other cities and locales exist and may be invented and ruled by the players.

At this point, I am just testing the waters to see if there is any interest in such a Roleplay. If interested, just let me know in this or one of the other interest checks. If there is sufficient interest, I will post an OOC thread with a map, character sheet template, and wait for 3-4 players to join before starting IC.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that. I'll be sure to check out whatever you come with in the future.
I know this is supposedly full but if there's room still let ya boy googer know. Posting it here for approval first.

Personal Information
Name: Van Nhela

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Height/Weight: 5 feet, 7 inches. 130 lbs.

Hobbies: His time as an apprentice with the Clocksmith's Guild has given Van an appreciation for tinkering. He enjoys writing, and his assistance writing peer-reviewed treatises in collaboration with Avalice faculty demonstrates that he is fairly adept.

History: During his first two years at Avalice, Van was presumed by much of the faculty and student body to be a future member of the Seven: those most gifted and prestigious of the great arcane university at Genealogia. The savant junior underclassman was writing peer-reviewed treatises at age 14. At 15, he was teaching classes - technically in the capacity of a professor's-aide, though his pupils would confess that his lectures were more edifying than those of tenured instructors. Van's genius was unprecedented and his graduation seemed assured.

But when Headmaster Augustine moved Van from Class Wisteria to Class Camellia in an effort to provide some leadership to Avalice's struggling pupils, everything about Van changed. It would seem that the so called "Curse of Class C" would not be so easily broken. It would seem the Class Camellia's misfortune had rubbed off on even Avalice's most prestigious young student.

Van had always been moody and capricious, and rumor had it that Van had a falling out with his wealthy parents. Nobody was quite sure what caused the row between the noble couple and their son; Van was something of a loner and never confided much to his few acquaintances. Whatever caused the disagreement, it resulted in Van needing to pay his own way through Avalice's substantial tuition and board expenses.

During the break between semesters, Van became an apprentice of the Clocksmiths' Guild. The meticulousness and precision demanded by the craft suited Van well. Van became a valuable apprentice to the guild, helping not only to build the namesake clocks of the guild, but also arcanometers: high-precision tools used to detect and quantify the presence of mana. In the process of building and studying these advanced devices, Van became preoccupied with the belief that living beings were clockwork devices of a different - more complicated sort.

As Van began his junior upperclassman semester, the academy's librarian's noticed a worrying pattern to their pupil's new reading habits. Van borrowed translations of ancient tomes detailing strange magics, books of the dead, and scrolls written in the untranslated calligraphy of the devils. Some of Van's requests were forbidden texts containing hidden knowledge deemed hazardous and unfit for the virgin eyes of unprepared pupils.

And while members of the faculty began to fret over Van's reading habits, disquieting rumors about Van's studies circulated among the pupils. Whispers told of Van drowning mice in a pitcher of water, and then using electrodes tethered to power crystals to galvanize them back to life.

Van went to fewer and fewer of his classes in the middle of that semester, until one day late in the fall when Van completely left. The faculty still contest that Van dropped out, but rumor among the students holds that Van was actually expelled. The exact cause for the expulsion varies from storyteller to storyteller, but many rumors hold necromancy and a missing girl from Class Iris in common.

Nearly a year has passed since Van abruptly left Avalice last semester. Rumor holds that an investigation by the faculty found that Van committed no wrong, and that the disgraced pupil is soon to return to the academy. As the start of the semester draws near, the professors have little to say regarding Van's purported return for his final semester. Whether or not Van is to return this year remains to be seen. Some students protest his purported return, and a few vow to exact justice for what they claim Van did to the Iris girl.

Combat Information

Magic Class: Alteration

Mana Color: Sickly green

Mana Characteristic: Akin to a wasp's sting: faint and almost imperceptible at first. Gradually builds into a lingering sharpness.

Equipment:

Arcanometer - The Clocksmith's Guild, in addition to clocks, constructs and designs high-precision clockwork technology used in the more developed parts of the world. One such piece of technology is the arcanometer - a device used to detect and measure mana. As an apprentice to the guild, Van was able to construct his own arcanometer. Superficially, the arcanometer looks very similar to a noble's pocketwatch or compass. A dial hand fashioned from an exotic manaphilic metal, such as aztjalum, points toward the nearest mana-bearing body or the highest concentration if there are multiple in the vicinity. A second dial hand points to various graduations on the dial of the arcanometer, which show how much mana is present. In a combat situation, arcanometers are reliable means of knowing if the opponent is a powerful sorcerer or if they might be concealing some powerful enchanted device.

Spells:

-Fibrillate: In ancient times, it was thought that the heart was the vessel of the soul. In Van's studies, he has learned that it is nothing more than a pump coordinated by electrical impulses. Throw these electrical impulses off, and the heart of even the strongest warrior will begin to spasm ineffectively. It takes very little mana to achieve a lethal fibrillation, and few healers in this day and age can recognize the cause until it is too late. Van needs to be able to place his palm on the foe's chest to cast this spell. Metal armor or thick clothing diminishes its efficacy.

-Thunderbolt: A crackling lance of green thunder magic erupts from Van's fingertips. A flashy, loud spell that is capable of electrocuting foes and igniting clothing and other flammable objects. Air is not exceptionally conductive, and so launching a bolt of lightning through the air at an opponent is mana-intensive. Electric energy courses to ground through the path of least resistance, which in many combat situations might be through a foe's sword or plate armor. Its efficacy is highly variable. Not Van's favorite combat spell, though it has its uses.

-Resuscitate: Just as electrical mana can be used to paralyze a heart, it can also be used to restart a heart that has recently stopped beating. In some more primitive parts of the world, such magic may be mistaken for necromancy.
