I am a veteran of the United States Army and the US Army National Guard. I spent three years on Active Duty serving in the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Ft. Carson, CO, and the 3rd Armor Division at Kirch Göns, West Germany. I spent 18 years in the Army National Guard with the 26th Infantry Division "Yankee" and 29th Infantry Division (Light), "The Blue and the Gray". I was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina with the 29th ID (L) in 2001 - 2002. I have also been reading military history articles and books since I was 10 years old. I do prefer Military Role Plays over all other genres, primarily because I have a vast knowledge of the subject including personal experiences. At the very least, my characters are always veterans.

I have been writing for pleasure for at least 35+ years but only got into forum-based Role Playing about eighteen years ago. I do enjoy Nation Role Plays and get into minute detail when designing my military. The only reason I enjoy excruciating detail in my militaries is because for me, it is fun. My education and experience on this subject afford me the insight to see the depth of the structure. It is not just a General and a large pile of soldiers. If someone wants assistance in designing an army, navy, or air force, please send me a PM. I will help. Please specify what level (echelon) or depth you would like me to go. When I say echelon, I mean Army, Corps, Division, Brigade/Regiment, Battalion/Squadron, Company/Troop/Battery, Platoon, and Squad/Section.

When I was a student in High School, I used to play Dungeons & Dragons. Recently, I have been DMing a 5e campaign of my creation for my son and his friends. 5e is so much less cumbersome than earlier editions of D&D. I do have an interest in Tolkien-esque fantasy-styled Role Plays as well. Time travel has always been a fun genre for me, but to do it well, one must have a firm grasp of historical facts.

There are only a few fanfictions I will participate in; Star Wars and Star Trek are two of them. I want to do an exclusively Klingon RP one of these days. I also avoid Canon characters.

I have real-world martial arts experience. I would love to write an RP about hand-to-hand combat, no fantasy magic chit, just hands elbows, knees, and feet. Maybe the occasional head butt thrown in to mix things up. I trained in Krav Maga for six and a half years. I earned a first-degree black belt in Krav Maga on 3 June 2017. 

Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art form that employs practical self-defense techniques drawing forms & techniques from Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Taekwando. It is very brutal, demanding, and aggressive. During the seven years I trained, I have bruised two ribs, sustained several muscle pulls, and various lacerations and bruises over my body. I have received a sprained ankle and a fractured wrist. Before the first black belt test, I received a bone bruise to my right shin; where my roundhouse kicks impact. Yet, I am stupid enough to continue training. [Regardless of the physical pain, it is more fun than any other physical activity I have engaged in. Fortunately, the bone bruise healed up prior to the third and final test. EDIT: I did leave the sport over five years ago. :(]

Over two years ago I completed my first novel, a science fiction set in the 24th century. It focuses on a Private Military Corporation solely employed by the earth government. I started a second book in November 2022 and hope to work on that this summer when I have more time.

What Brings You To Role Player Guild: There is a large community of writers here. I enjoy the hobby even though I rarely get time to participate. Currently, I try to limit my stories to one at a time. Unfortunately, I rarely find one I enjoy and others are willing to write in. When I do, they die way too early. 
Life Before You Came To Role Player Guild: It was very different. I don’t know how to explain it in just a few words or sentences.

@Starboard Watch I didn't follow your example completely from Major Gwala. I retained a few of the items I originally created for KT Watkins. I have him entering the academy on August 28, 2370 instead of September 6 and then graduating in mid May rather than early June. I also included the Infantry Officer Basic Course, which all infantry officers attend prior to being assigned to a line unit. Then I sent him to 1-1 Starfleet Marines and he followed the course Major Gwala did including time spent in the Dominion War. I continued with your timeline, being a training Company Commander in San Diego. Eventually, it is the 1st Battalion 7th Starfleet Marines (1-7) he deploys with aboard the Vigilance, not 1-1 SM. Based on the changes you suggest, Watkins is now 34 instead of his original 32 or Gwala's 35. I've met several majors who were 34. That is a normal age for that rank.

Background: Jacob Watkins and his wife Jayla (nee Vassar) raised five boys in the Atlanta suburb of Marietta. Jacob owned a business housing several holosuites. Jacob catered to whatever whims his customers desired, fulfilling many of his customers' dreams. As the child of a holosuite owner, Kurt was allowed to load his own programs playing several different games; either sporting events complete with a stadium filled with fans or some historical battle simulation. It was an enjoyable childhood he shared with his four older brothers.

As the youngest of five brothers, Kurt learned to defend himself early. His parents enrolled all five children into martial arts training and Kurt was no exception. He achieved a junior black belt rank at age 10 (2363) and a first degree ranking at age 13 (2366). By the time he completed secondary education he had achieved third degree black belt (2371). He has continued to train in combat sports ever since.

As a teen, he enjoyed playing Defensive End and Wide Receiver for his high school football team. The military academy he attended in Maryland allowed him to continue both his football career and his martial arts training. He continued to train in weight-lifting during his academic years. Even his father’s holosuites could provide him with weightlifting programs to stay in shape and get stronger.

Upon completion of his training at the Starfleet Marine Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, Kurt Watkins was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry (2375). He completed the infantry officer basic course at Camp Benning, Georgia and was assigned as a Marine Platoon Commander with 2nd battalion, 1st Starfleet Marine Regiment, initially in San Diego, CA and then aboard the USS Lexington (Nebula Class). 

In 2381, Lieutenant Kurt Watkins fought alongside his fellow marines of Two One Starfleet marines against the Borg Collective. He received the Navy Cross (NC) for his actions. He single-handedly defeated no less than fifteen enemy combatants, some he subdued in hand to hand combat, preventing the bridge of the Lexington from being taken. He did suffer four lacerations to his torso and upper thigh during the melee.

By the end of 2381, Kurt Watkins was promoted to Captain and serving as a Battalion staff officer aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard (Nebula Class) with the first battalion 7th marines. By 2386, Major Fedde Pipor, a Bajoran was relieved of command of the battalion’s A Company then stationed in Oceanside, California. Major Pipor was court martialed for actions unbecoming of a Starfleet Officer. The unit’s morale had plummeted. Their was discussion among many of the marines in the unit resembling treasonous behavior. The Navy reported their findings to Starfleet and a board of inquiry intervened.

All the officers and several NCOs in A Company were relieved for incompetence and dereliction of duty. New leadership was brought to the base including newly promoted Major Kurt (KT) Watkins. He has been very firm with the company his first year as commander and morale has improved significantly. 

While the USS Vigilance was in dry dock, the Marines were assigned to the Ambassador Class Star ship. They had a deck to themselves which included twelve transporters, a dining facility, a nightclub called the “Bulldog” and four holo-suites used for various training activities.


Starfleet Marine Company (Reinforced)


The Starfleet Marine Battalion consists of a Headquarters and Headquarters Company which contains the Battalion Commander (LTC), his staff, communications, medical, mess and other combat support elements to support the line companies of the Battalion. There are five line companies, lettered A - E in the Battalion. The line company is commanded by a Major and consists of three marine platoons, Light Weight Company Mortar section and a headquarters section. The Platoon has three marine squads, three Medium Phased Array Disruptor crews (MPAD) and three Man Portable Photon Cannon gunners (MANPAC) for a total of 54 personnel assigned. 

Often times, a line company is detached from the Battalion, given combat support and combat service support attachments to assist them in their shipboard assignments. This Starfleet Marine detachment consists of a line company, a combat engineer platoon, a fire support team (FIST) and a medical team.

I am a veteran of the United States Army and the US Army National Guard. I spent three years on Active Duty serving in the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Ft. Carson, CO, and the 3rd Armor Division at Kirch Göns, West Germany. I spent 18 years in the Army National Guard with the 26th Infantry Division [i]"Yankee"[/i] and 29th Infantry Division (Light), [i]"The Blue and the Gray"[/i]. I was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina with the 29th ID (L) in 2001 - 2002. I have also been reading military history articles and books since I was 10 years old. I do prefer Military Role Plays over all other genres, primarily because I have a vast knowledge of the subject including personal experiences. At the very least, my characters are always veterans. I have been writing for pleasure for at least 35+ years but only got into forum-based Role Playing about eighteen years ago. I do enjoy Nation Role Plays and get into minute detail when designing my military. The only reason I enjoy excruciating detail in my militaries is because for me, it is fun. My education and experience on this subject afford me the insight to see the depth of the structure. It is not just a General and a large pile of soldiers. If someone wants assistance in designing an army, navy, or air force, please send me a PM. I will help. Please specify what level (echelon) or depth you would like me to go. When I say echelon, I mean Army, Corps, Division, Brigade/Regiment, Battalion/Squadron, Company/Troop/Battery, Platoon, and Squad/Section. When I was a student in High School, I used to play Dungeons & Dragons. Recently, I have been DMing a 5e campaign of my creation for my son and his friends. 5e is so much less cumbersome than earlier editions of D&D. I do have an interest in Tolkien-esque fantasy-styled Role Plays as well. Time travel has always been a fun genre for me, but to do it well, one must have a firm grasp of historical facts. There are only a few fanfictions I will participate in; Star Wars and Star Trek are two of them. I want to do an exclusively Klingon RP one of these days. I also avoid Canon characters. I have real-world martial arts experience. I would love to write an RP about hand-to-hand combat, no fantasy magic chit, just hands elbows, knees, and feet. Maybe the occasional head butt thrown in to mix things up. I trained in Krav Maga for six and a half years. I earned a first-degree black belt in Krav Maga on 3 June 2017. Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art form that employs practical self-defense techniques drawing forms & techniques from Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Taekwando. It is very brutal, demanding, and aggressive. During the seven years I trained, I have bruised two ribs, sustained several muscle pulls, and various lacerations and bruises over my body. I have received a sprained ankle and a fractured wrist. Before the first black belt test, I received a bone bruise to my right shin; where my roundhouse kicks impact. Yet, I am stupid enough to continue training. [Regardless of the physical pain, it is more fun than any other physical activity I have engaged in. Fortunately, the bone bruise healed up prior to the third and final test. I earned a first-degree black belt in Krav Maga on 3 June 2017. <br><br>Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art form that employs practical self-defense techniques drawing forms & techniques from Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Taekwando. It is very brutal, demanding, and aggressive. During the seven years I trained, I have bruised two ribs, sustained several muscle pulls, and various lacerations and bruises over my body. I have received a sprained ankle and a fractured wrist. Before the first black belt test, I received a bone bruise to my right shin; where my roundhouse kicks impact. Yet, I am stupid enough to continue training. [Regardless of the physical pain, it is more fun than any other physical activity I have engaged in. Fortunately, the bone bruise healed up prior to the third and final test. EDIT: I did leave the sport over five years ago. :(]<br><br>Over two years ago I completed my first novel, a science fiction set in the 24th century. It focuses on a Private Military Corporation solely employed by the earth government.
