Balto - Because my mother has always wanted a little girl, but instead she got five boys. Five of 'em. And what did she do? She found the most feminine sounding unisex names and slapped 'em on. I, luckily, didn't get the worst of it; one of my older brothers is named Katelyn. He got laughed at for all of his high school career. Out of all five, I, the youngest, somehow was the first one to ever use my last name as a nickname. Balto became a thing and now I'm a cool kid. Hurrah.

Father's an inventor. Mother's a dentist. First brother owns a restaurant in New York. Second's Youtube famous playing video games. Third's a doctor. And the fourth's an intern at a law firm while attending Harvard.

What's the last kid?

Oh, he hasn't figured out his life yet. He still thinks he can be a dancer or a Broadway showstopper instead of some backstreet punk opening for Sting. All he needs is to get through high school. The rest didn't figure out who they wanted to be until college; give him time and space. Yet the clock's ticking.

How does one cope with being told they aren't going to make it by their parents. That, what aspires you is just a childhood dream and a sham. Leighton in a nutshell. Expectations, after the first kid, ran high and it just kept going and going until what seemed semi-plausible turned into 'What are you thinking?' And, of course, being the youngest that's still grounds for being a kid and Leighton milks it. Milks it till the cows come home because he doesn't want to grow up. He doesn't want to shoot for the stars half-ass and fall flat on his face.

Thus, he runs around with a smile and knows he'll go somewhere. Where? There's only hoping it's not further down the hole's he's made for himself. Which may be why people adopt the carpe diem policy because living in the now means, 'I don't have to see the mess I become, just yet.' Usually, that makes the mess inevitable until changes are made. Foresight can be a person's best friend... most of the time.

Inadequacy - Balto's greatest fear is the fear of not living up to expectations. It's the fear of disappointment and not being enough. Whether it be failing at a test or failing a friendship, but most of all, failing someone he's fallen in love with.
Complacency - Nothing scares Balto the second most than not having anything to say about himself and what he's done in his life. His parents and grandparents have amazing stories. They'd done crazy shit when they were younger. He doesn't want to grow up with children, set them down, and have nothing to offer them in experience, entertainment, or just... anything, really.
Heights - Planes scare the shit out of him, but only the moment he realizes how far up he is. The same goes for anything higher than two stories. He'll die.

Appearance

Standing at 5’8”, and weighing in at just a hair off 140 pounds, it’s safe to say that he isn’t exactly the most imposing of figures. It doesn’t help that he hates standing up straight, either. Nathan’s posture is an endless source of torment for his mother; shoulders rolled forward, knees bent, hands inside his pockets. Apart from the seemingly permanent dark circles under his eyes, and a fading bite mark that mars his right forearm, he looks well enough, though it’s possible that he’s just a touch too pale. Fine veins at his temples convey a promising hint of vulnerability, and while he might not like to hear people say it, there’s a graceful languor to his movements, as does the way he talks. Nathan’s all easy smiles and light touches on the arm until he inevitably grows tired of playing nice.

Nathan’s blonde, pretty, rich, and a little bit of a bitch. He has the temperament of a genius, though whether he or not he has the skills to back it up is a different story altogether. A spoilt brat hiding behind a mask of sphinx-like intrigue and nonchalance, he’s the type of guy who’ll pretend to love you if you’d only just do his homework. Whether he realizes it or not, he picked up a lot of traits from his father, one of which is confidence in oneself. Being born into a family of such high esteem, he’s used to keeping up the shining reputation of the Glass name, but that confidence has seeped into his personal life as well. He has no issues justifying his own reasons for saying or doing what he wants, though he can be quick to tear others down for being “dumb”.

While Nathan might not be the wisest, nor the most knowledgeable, he’s a good judge of character, and it takes little time for him to classify a person. He prides himself on being hard to read - especially when it comes to relationships. Not one to open up right away, he prefers to keep everyone at arm’s length until he has no other choice but to let them get close. Though when he truly does take an interest in something (or someone), he puts all of himself into it, and momentarily forgets about almost everything else. Born from a loveless marriage, Nathan was supposed to put the claims of an impending divorce to rest; which is exactly what he did - in the eyes of the public, at least. Behind closed doors, his parents slept in separate beds, and barely even spoke a word to each other, unless, of course, there was a camera or reporter present. Growing up, he had everything he wanted, from the newest, most expensive toys, to the household help catering to his every whim and desire. It was more than enough to to instill in him a sense of entitlement that he’d never quite be able to shake off.

Much unlike his two older brothers, Joshua and David, Nathan was stubborn, rebellious, and hard to teach. Around his parents, he kept up a facade of pleasant thoughtfulness, but alone, he was selfish and uncooperative; the nine-year gap between him and his siblings doing nothing to help. It wasn’t because he liked being that way (though he did enjoy the power being filthy rich warranted), but a part of him felt he deserved to be rotten when he got passed over for everything under the sun. In the eyes of his parents, it was always his brothers who came first in their eyes; even as they murmured a vague affirmation, ruffled his hair, and showered him with sparkling gifts and trinkets.

Even as a child, Nathan knew his life would turn out different from his brothers’. Joshua was one of the top attorneys in New York, while David was looking to inherit Glass and Co. Whatever Nathan did, it never seemed to be good enough, and the forced, tight-lipped smiles his parents deemed fit to grace him with only added fuel to the fire. So, this privileged young boy grew to be an ill-tempered young man, lashing out at everyone and everything. Even his peers didn’t see him as something to take seriously, barely sparing him a second glance once they learnt of his status as the disappointment of the Glass family.

The chair outside the Dean’s Office is always warm because of Nathan, the plaques and framed certificates that lined the walls already having been read backwards and forwards by guilty eyes. If there was nothing he could do to gain his father’s affection and respect, then there was no longer a reason to keep up a pretence of stuffy, stick-in-the-mud decorum, was there? At least now, there were people paying attention to him, and in a country that doesn’t discriminate between fame and infamy, the latter presents itself as plainly more achievable.

These days, Nathan has a million plans up his sleeve, but instead of going through with them alone, he’ll often cajole another person into joining him. If there’s one thing that could be said about Nathan, it’s that he’s incredibly persistent in his advances, and to say that he doesn’t take ‘no’ for an answer would be the understatement of the century.

It's Belle, with an 'e.' Bellamy very strongly insists that she be called Belle and is wont to ignore anyone who purposely or spitefully uses her full name. There's nothing wrong with Bellamy, really, but doesn't Belle sound so much lovelier?

Jingle Bell – Not the most flattering, and one she'd much rather forget, but still a nickname assigned to her. Troglodytes who couldn't appreciate her sense of wonder tended to call her this.

Isabelle – Not quite a nickname, but when she was younger, she used to introduce herself as Isabelle (which may or may not have been influenced by her gran's favorite character of all time, Isabel Archer. A third of the people in her hometown still think that's her name, actually.

Commoner - Isn't it fantastic that she got in Caelbury? Her gran always did say she was a good-luck charm. Bellamy submitted an application to the famous Caelbury Academy after she dreamed one night that her true love was there waiting for her. Everyone at her old school mocked her, saying 'Jingle Bell is up in Cloud City again,' but once again, she had the last laugh.

Appearance

Bellamy has only ever seen her mother in photographs, but her gran says she's the spitting image. That's perhaps the best compliment anyone could give her! Her long red locks are exactly like hers, from the way it lightens to a golden hue at the tips, to the way it falls in the gentlest of waves down her back. Bellamy doesn't think she'd ever cut her hair—although, she might be persuaded if it were for some dramatic circumstance. Maybe, in a fit of brokenhearted fury, she grabs the kitchen knife and hacks away at the tresses that her true love once caressed? Oh, that sounds exciting! Her eyes, big and hazel and framed by thickset lashes, are the only things she got from her father. Through them, she hopes she can show him the wonders of the world that he has stopped seeing.

She's not as tall as she hoped she would be at sixteen, only 5'3 and a half and no longer growing, but there are beautiful high heels to remedy this, so she doesn't mind too much. Her trim figure is her love letter to herself, the result of healthy eating (with weekend cheat days, of course) and regular exercise. Bellamy takes great pride in her appearance, and not just for vanity's sake (although vain she can be). As Oscar Wilde says, "to love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance" and Bellamy believes in this wholeheartedly. She does what she likes, what makes her feel good, and what makes her comfortable with herself. So yes, she's fussy with her looks. She picks out her clothes the night before and wakes up early in the morning to fix her hair and makeup. She likes to wear skirts and dresses and may be overdressed 80% of the time.

Bellamy carries herself with determination and poise and just a little bit of flair, as though she's the queen, striding along the hallway to her throne, or a model in a never-ending runway.

Bellamy is flights of fancy and romantic notions and grand aspirations tied with a theatric pink bow. She lives in a world filled with pregnant possibilities and quixotic opportunities (her very own Cloud City—not the Star Wars kind, mind—as her classmates liked to tease her) and oftentimes stays there for so long that when she returns, the real world becomes a bit jarring. It's easy to spot the pure devastation flickering in her expressive eyes when something that she imagined would go smoothly turns into a train wreck instead.

The occasional prick of reality isn't enough to break Bellamy's rose-tinted glasses, though. Impossible is only another word for challenge, and Bellamy never backs down from one. She is enthusiastic and excitable in any and all matters, and so dogged in her endeavors that she'll likely wear you out with her persistent smile. No matter how much of a space case she appears to be, there lives an urgent need for action and adventure within her. Bellamy's a doer and follow through-er and if you dare her to do something, she'll do it without hesitating. What's even greater than her stories and daydreams is the ever-present chance they'll come true, and that can only happen if she makes it happen.

Bellamy is an open book, but a great or terrible liar depending on the circumstance. Her loyalty is as undying as her sense of wonder, and as prevalent as her propensity for melodrama. She is herself unabashedly and feels deeply. When she's inspired, she'll excitedly talk your ear off. When she's happy, her laughter is infectious. When she's upset, she'll clamp up and make herself scarce. When she's angry, she's a thunderstorm. For all her attempts at being the supposed portrait of a lady, Bellamy has a remarkable inability to remain poised and keep her temper in check. It can flare over minimal provocations. She can be petulant and vindictive, impulsive and violent. Once stubborn doer, follow through-er Bellamy is enraged, she won't stop until she gets even.

With relentless curiosity in one hand and a knack for meddling in the other, Bellamy can be quite a magnet for trouble as well. Whether it follows her, or she it, is debatable. She just always seems to be involved in something. Back in her idyllic hometown, she's infamous for being in the local news on a weekly basis.

Betrayal, because it can only come from people she loves.

History

When she was younger, Bellamy believed that she was the intrepid main character of a fairy tale. Her grandmother and primary caretaker, a librarian who imparted unto her a deep love for stories, only encouraged this thinking. It was the only way Bellamy could accept the misfortunes she had been subjected to so early in her life: her mother dying from childbirth, her father being driven to a depression that made him silent and distant and never there. Such tragedies only happened in books and movies, and so that must mean she was in one herself. It didn't make sense to other people, but it helped her cope. Bellamy would eventually outgrow the impossible notion, but not before it kickstarted and fueled her overactive imagination.

Growing up in idyllic White Bird, Idaho (population a whopping 92) meant a mostly uneventful childhood filled with routine. It was peaceful and happy and perfect; the happily ever after part of the stories. Everyone knew everyone else, and aside from the occasional gossip of who might be divorcing who, nothing eventful really happened. It was boring.And so Bellamy became the town's primary source of chaos, a consistent blip in an otherwise perfect screen.

At first, it was by accident.

On her first day of primary school, she picked a fight with three boys in her class after they made fun of her hair. Bellamy, who loved that she had her mother's hair and had a temper as fiery as her hair was red, threw the books in her bag against their heads. She got two out of three square on the forehead, but then the last one started bawling, alerting the teacher. Bellamy was put in the corner for the first week of school. It was the first recorded act of violence in the school, and the PTA was buzzing. The boys' parents were all enraged, but when the problem child's guardian was a gentle, elderly woman who baked cookies for the whole town, there wasn't much they could do.

Ever since then, Bellamy was on the town's radar, and rightly so. Incident after incident, the culprit was a little girl with red hair and an overactive imagination. During a field trip, she got lost in the National Forest after following a path that she thought was part of a Ley line. They didn't find until three in the morning, eight hours after she went missing. There was an incident involving the Raymond's prodigal son, returned home after being fired from his job in Boise. Bellamy had been suspicious of him from the get-go—it was something about his eyes—and had taken to trailing after him. Long story short, she managed to thwart his plan to steal his parents' antiques and jewelries. That was one of the rare times where she was celebrated instead of reprimanded.

Life changed, for better or worse, when she started going to high school. Since the only school in White Bird was until the sixth grade only, Bellamy had to go to the high school in the next town, about half an hour away. Grangerville was by no means a bustling metropolitan, but it might as well have been compared to her small, peaceful White Bird. There, Bellamy wasn't a scoundrel or a hero, just a small town girl that was apparently out of touch with reality. She retained her infamy, although for very different reasons.

Bellamy heard about Caelbury from one of the aspiring football players there. He said, and this was word for word that "Caelbury is my only ticket out of this hellhole." Intrigued, Bellamy did her research and was immediately enamored with the institution. That night, she dreamed that her true love was a student there, waiting for her to come, and it spurred her to apply.

Against all odds, she was among the chosen.

Favorite memory

On her thirteenth birthday, Gran and her friends' gift to her was her mother, in spirit. Her gran collected her mother's old dresses, the only ones she had kept from her mother's childhood, and an assortment of trinkets she had. There was a locket in there, the pendant filled with sand from where her father had proposed; a little book filled with various love letters from her father, and some not from him; and polaroid pictures, lots and lots of out of focus, terribly shot picture of the most random things. She spent the rest of her birthday with her mother, trying on her clothes and laughing at the cheesy but romantic letters.

Bellamy brings the box filled with her mother's memories everywhere. It's the first thing she would save in a fire.

Least favorite memory

Gran never kept the whereabouts of her father a secret. Bellamy knew that he was sick in his heart and he couldn't come back home, not yet, and that he was trying his hardest to recover. She understood, she didn't mind waiting.

During her first year of high school, one of the Grangerville students found out about her situation (no doubt from Jeannie Miller, who couldn't shut her mouth for anything) and thought it would be funny to rip her heart out of her chest. On Christmas that year, she received a letter from her father, saying that he was flying back home and that he wanted to meet her down at a restaurant in Grangerville. When she got to the restaurant, she was greeted by a sleazeball instead, laughing as though it was the funniest joke in the world and explaining that he just wanted an excuse take her out.

She ran away crying, hand aching after a particularly powerful jab to the face.

I'm tempted to leave it cryptically like that, but I can't. First off, I love her to pieces. She's like... I don't know. A Rom-Com star. A Disney Movie main character? She should have her own musical.

Speaking of musicals, do you know what she reminds me of for some reason? The Music Man. She's Chenoweth. Our own Marian Paroo. <3 Like, damn, that's a very, very good character and I am intensely excited to see how her own story unfolds at Caelbury. She's the best character to have in this situation, trying to find out how to save Caelbury. I really do love her.

And I think... I can... just... Miso is going to kill me go ahead and put her in the Character Tab because I'm pretty sure that's an accepted from me. Like somewhere in the above Wows I wrote 'Accepted' I dunno anymore.
