And back I am. Exhausted, certainly, and may need a while for that to wear off, but I'm once more here to read and even write!

Should have been writing posts. Took part in D&D shenaniganry instead. Got to fix that tomorrow.

There's a lot of backlog here on my end. I'm trying my best to lessen it, but replies might be less frequent for a time. A welcome change from the nothing doing I went through though! Thanks partners!

Bio

I suppose it is about time for me to copypaste fill in some information about myself over here just as well. Only took me a few years to getting around to do it.

I am a married individual in my twenties from the country some people dare claim does not exist. The Finland conspiracy is an old joke, you can stop with it now. Not a native speaker of the English language by any means, though I did begin studying it exceptionally early for our country's standards. I suppose it was some sort of a test case. With that out of the way though, what more should I be saying here...
  • I like being nice to people. If one needs to ask why, well that alone is reason enough.
  • I play and Dungeon Master Dungeons and Dragons, both offline and in the past also over here.
  • I enjoy OOC chatter, be it planning the RP or a more casual exchange (not that RP'ing is that serious). I can make do without, but don't be afraid to talk to me.
  • Whatever the case, I'm here to have fun and hone my writing abilities!
I do think that should about cover it, yes.

Thanks for stopping by I suppose! I do also have a Discord account, but I prefer to start anything RP related on the site. At least with people I don't know from the past, that is! But hey, now if you are a longer time contact of mine and happened to read this, now you know and can ask!

@VKAllen Yeah, you would either need to create an entirely new character or reassign your ability scores. As I said, rolling is not an option this time around. It's just how I operate as a DM. Welcome to the crew!
Yeah, I guess it's time for me to make my resignation official as well. It was fun while it lasted.

On another note, I made the interest check. You should be able to find it without me linking, I think doing so would be too disrespectful.
Hello there! Glad you decided to visit my interest check!

I am a somewhat experienced Dungeon Master in the fifth edition of D&D with quite a bit of free time in my hands this summer, so I thought I could kill some of it by running a campaign here on the forums. Our adventure will be the very first official fifth edition adventure from WotC (if you don't count Lost Mine of Phandelver) Hoard of the Dragon Queen which some of you might have noticed from the title. Now, onto the technical side of things...

  • I am looking for a party of 3-5 adventurers, which would make us a 6 man RP at most.
  • Please refrain from making Neutral Evil or Chaotic Evil characters. This was the recommendation of the Adventurer's League for this and I'd like to stick with it.
  • We will be using an external site for our character sheets, one that the DM of my last forum D&D game showed me, called DM Royale. I'll link it once/if we get the actual thread up.
  • Character stats will have to be assigned via Point Buy or Standard Array. I am against rolling them because that has the potential to lead into 1st level characters having way too good modifiers and unbalanced power distribution in the party.
  • Feel free to roll your starting money for equipment if you want to, though. The benefits the extra gear may bring are usually temporary enough and your character may get in that one bit of extra flavour by carrying different equipment.

So there's that. I am also in the possession of the aforementioned adventure LMoP if you want to try that instead, but as Hoard has material for longer I've chosen to set it as the default for this.

Now, paging the two players that have already mentioned they would be interested in a D&D game ran by me... @VKAllen@The Harbinger of Ferocity
No word from @darkandstar? I'm afraid I'm starting to consider the same action as @VKAllen...

Tell you what, if none of you are familiar with the official adventures Lost Mine of Phandelver or Hoard of the Dragon Queen, I could take up DM'ing either for you participants. I'll put up an interest check tomorrow if this RP continues looking abandoned.
Pardon my possibly rude language, but what's with the holdup? It's been uncomfortably long since we last had an entry.
@twannyman Let's see... We currently have a Ranger, a Paladin, a Fighter and a Warlock. That leaves a hole in the supporting classes such as Bards, Abjurers and Clerics. I'm unsure what new additions we are getting though, so I cannot really tell. Oh boy, I'm not looking forward to getting swamped by another set of stats rolled with God's own luck.
@EruditeAssassin Just a couple more things, really. Mostly missing rolls here and there. I'll single them out.

  • First, in the very beginning you should add an Athletics roll to defend a grapple.
  • Second, could you add the word "prepared" to the throwing thing and change the check to throw into the disadvantaged grapple roll?
  • As your weapon is improvised, please do remove 2 from your attack roll. Proficiency bonus does not count, you see. (You can just change the number listed and tell why it differs from the linked "actual" roll)
  • Last but not least, add 4 to your damage, totalling 10 (strength modifier).

It's looking good though. Feel free to ask if you ever need help!
@EruditeAssassin I was not expecting hostility, since nobody was talking about kicking anyone either. As for "bitching" about things, that is hardly what we have been doing. In our attempts to help you by telling what should and/or could be removed we have been referencing the rules so you would be aware of them in the future, so the game would go smoother for all of us. It is an act of legitimate goodwill not meant to harm anyone.

Now, since you asked us to use that form of feedback, I'll sum up the current problem: You must make an athletics check against the grapple and you need to roll your grapple on disadvantage. Add those. You may not throw the guards. Remove that. Fix the damage result of your pickaxe, it's way too much as is. Alternatively swap the pickaxe to a use of your breath weapon. So there.
In this case I'd probably use the pickaxe to strike, given how the player in question has left that into the current state of the post, unlike the breath weapon. Besides, the latter is a limited resource so I would err onto the side of caution here.

But that is just nitpicking on the current case.

I think we should all agree on some sort of a time limit for responding if a post requires some edits to be made, just so we'll avoid arriving at standstills where nothing seems to be happening. I'd say 24 hours since the problem is recognised, seems fair to me. Yes/No? Other opinions on the matter? Different approaches at the problem?
