You're all saying things I said to him when discussing this. Really, it comes down to the potential the given mass has of being used by anyone other than him. Consider that him showing his selfless nature. Don't think that he doesn't take anything though, because that's also a misleading conclusion to make.

The answer is simple then: He absorbs multiple planets.
Compared to how much is already contained in him, it would take a large number of planets to make a noticeable difference. Secondly, when I say picky, I mean picky to the point that he won't take planets or other places that various races have a chance of using as a resource in the future.
